      @@michaelpalmer1580 Again, the media chooses to project a negative image of Americans of color. It has been this way, since the inception of television. Google early Disney cartoons, there were even documentaries on how to approach a black customer. It is mainly due to FEAR of a black awakening. Google Black Wall Street! FEAR, is the answer!

    • @diva70smusic
      @diva70smusic 3 года назад +20

      @ felix121984 Great point! However, I have to add a correction. There was another black sitcom in the '70's called "That's My Mama". It started Clifton Davis as "Mama's" son (was Rev. Gregory "Amen"), Theresa Merritt as mama (also Aunt Em in "The Wiz), Teddy Wilson as the postman (also played Sweet Daddy Williams on "Good Times") and Ted Lange as Junior (played Issac on the "Love Boat"). Like most black actors in that era, they were all seasoned Broadway stars. Clifton Davis was especially popular then as a singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, and game show guest. As a songwriter, his biggest hit was "Never Can Say Goodbye".
      In season 1 the opening credits showed a barber's pole and the theme song was instrumental. Season 2, the closing credits had the best view of a Washington, DC neighborhood ever on a sitcom. I don't know for sure but it looked real to me and not a movie backdrop. I lived in DC as a young child and moved back in my twenties even though I am not a native. The theme song had vocals.
      The TV series was not very popular in the mainstream even though it was on ABC. I don't remember the competition on those nights. It only lasted about 2 years. As a teenager then, I watched most of the black sitcoms. Plus I had a crush on Clifton Davis 😊😊. The fact that he was in a high profile romance with Melba Moore at the time, made me love him more. She was and still to this day, a favorite entertainer of mine.
      Other actors who appeared on the show were Jester Hairston, Lynne Moody, Helen Martin, and Joan Pringle (who was married in real life to Teddy Wilson). Lamont Dozier, the great songwriter wrote the theme song for the show. Ironically, the singer who sung the lyrics was not Clifton but I don't remember who he was. The show was not as strong as some of the other shows back then but I liked it. You can catch it on cable on the weekends, the channel I am not sure. Happy hunting!

      Great call.... I too remember that show and another show called Baby I'm Back on CBS starring Kim Fields, Damon Wilson, Denise Nichols from Room 222. Speaking of Room 222, it was the Black principal who was the star of the series, however, actress Karen Valentine and Denise Nichols overshadowed him.. Also, during this time another Black sitcom premiered that showcased a young Black couple (can't recall the name but it too was on ABC).
      The 1970s was a good time for Black Hollywood after the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, not nearly as good as Black Hollywood is now, but good enough.. ABC also cast a Black actress (Brenda Skyes) as a regular on Ozzie and Harriet in the 1970s. Actress Lynne Moody appeared on many ABC programs.
      I remember a lot of Black talent from back in the day.

    • @hardren101
      @hardren101 3 года назад +26

      The role won Sandra an Emmy (only cast mbr too win one) so if anything she shld be grateful...Urkel saved Family Matters n give him n the cast 9 yrs of solid pay + residuals.... (a huge blessing in the industry).....Problem was he became type cast b/c the character became so popular....But his agent n parents did not serv him well from a financial...At the peak of the character's popularity....ABC made a Ton of money on merchandising n Jaleel received pennies (5% of net vs gross)....if he were going to settle for such a low amount n at the time he had the clout 2 negotiate a much better deal.

    • @billionaire30xyz36
      @billionaire30xyz36 3 года назад +41

      Yeah, the MAJOR difference between Jackee Harry and Jaleel White, is that Jackee went on to have another solid, steady and memorable role on "Sister Sister" for six seasons.... And this was after her five seasons on "227"... And Jackee also did several movies.... Jaleel didn't get any major roles after "Family Matters"..
