  • Sometime, if I can capture a video right in a certain moment I can get a better take. I was jamming and used my phone to capture a take on this piano rock song. I would like to do more like this but not sure about the phone audio quality? It's the easiest way to catch a video in the moment without the distraction of setting up equipment, and then upload it. Maybe it is time for a phone mic or to plan for a better way to accomplish this work flow for spontaneos recording. Let me know what you think!

You play beautifully. I just started playing and writing my own songs (sad songs about addiction) . So much fun to learn & play but SO emotional. Hope yo play like you someday! Thanks for sharing. Keep inspiring.

I like it. Started watching because of the gear and all but then listened to your piano song, ..."those eyes sizing me up....." very nice lyrics by the way. But what I really like (not that you probably care) I like that you are actually using your gear! You are playing songs. I wonder if half of these people can even sing or play or if they are just gearheads for the sake of buying equipment. Not that that is a bad thing LOL

Thank you! I don't know either. I bet there are many people who buy a lot more gear than they use regularly! A lot of my subscribers are also musicians interested in home recording. Home recording has been something I've enjoyed for probably over 15 years, and I try to focus on getting equipment that enhances things enough to justify the cost for me. I try to do both the gear stuff and also share some of my own projects to give it more personality. Thanks for stopping by and leaving the great feedback!

Powerful jam performance, Todd! I get what you're saying about capturing spontaneity and not having to distract yourself with the usual recording setups, etc. Your phone did a pretty good job of capturing the moment but I think some further experimentation is in order. Your voice sounded great - maybe a bit too much ambiance for some tastes - but I liked it. However the piano sounded like it was overloading the phone's mic preamp. Now that wouldn't have been big deal in a rock setting, (actually it was a cool piano sound IMO) but it almost completely overwhelmed your vocal. I want to hear those lyrics!! If you could come up with a way to balance the two, you'd have GOLD!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, some thing I did like about the piano sound. Since it is hard to get a really clean sound out of that piano regardless, it doesn't make as big of difference as it seems like it would on a cell phone recording (except the stereo was off because of the placement).. I'll have to do some experimenting.
