    On DVD featurette, Betsy Palmer said she needed a car after her last one broke down and being in Friday the 13th would've afforded her a new one. She went on to say that she thought no one would remember the film after it's release, of course that wasn't the case and she became an icon.

    Betsy Palmer may have needed a new car, but later on she actually embraced her character, when she started going to horror conventions, and she was shocked at how long her line was with fans.
    She would ask them what exactly was it about her character that fans liked, and it was something along the lines of how she's a mother who's willing to kill for her child.

    I personally love both films in different ways, The original is scary because of the mystery behind who's killing the characters and the ending where Jason came out of the lake to attack Alice scared the shit out of me the very first time I watched this. The reboot scared me because of the sheer brutality of Jason and how you I can kind of sympathize with him because if you saw your mother get decapitated in front of you like that it would probably mentally fuck up your mind and cause you to have a lot of hatred. Also because I have a disability myself and my mom is protective of me at times so I kinda connect with Jason over any other slasher villian.

    Tough one. I can't decide. I like the idea of Pyscho in reverse and it's a crazy old lady hiding in the woods. The great thing about the remake, you can view it as a sequel. It just introduces Jason to newcomers by sticking 1 to 3 and then we can get back to Jason killing teenagers.

You’ve killed it yet again girl 🔥

    @kahrahnoel814 2 года назад +2

    Awesome intro, Kylie! Between the two versions of Friday the 13th, I obviously like the 1980 original movie more because it's the film that started it all. It also blew my mind when I discovered on the Dead Meat RUclips channel that the killer in the OG Friday the 13th was Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees and not Jason Voorhees himself until the Part 2 and so on. I thought that Alice Hardy was an AWESOME final girl who defended herself against Pamela, who got decapitated by Alice. It freaking sucks that Jason killed Alice at the beginning of Part 2.
    The final girl in the 2009 reboot was not too shabby and the story as a whole was okay.

  • @DesiSJ
    @DesiSJ 2 года назад +4

    You know, when I went into the theater and saw 2009's Friday, I left very Meh about it. However, over the years its become one of my favorites of the franchise and as a whole, I feel its a pretty solid movie. I actually prefer it, and most, over the original as far as rewatchability. I get bored with the original. I respect it. I'm grateful for it, but the truth is, no one is here anymore for Ms. Voorhees. We come for Jason and 2009 gave us a great Jason. It was such a refresher from the sleepy Jason we got in Freddy vs Jason. I thought the kills were good. The shock that came when our would be final girl died got an audible gasp from the audience. The opening sequence is intense. Jason is brutal. Its just an all around fun time.
    Trent's dialogue in the reboot during the s3x scene...its so cringe. It was at that point I really wanted his demise to be painful, lol

    My sister and her friends were all nearly ten years older than I am and I'd hear them talking about this scary Friday The 13th movie. So I HAD to see it. As a kid, it creeped me out. They picked the perfect place to film it, NoBeBoSco. That place had/has a vibe about it. Then I watched the Scream Greats vhs with Tom Savini being interviewed. I got to meet him years later when I was 14 and I was so starstruck that I had no idea what to say to him. But he put one arm around me and one arm around my sister and we took a picture together. That's one of my best memories. I like how Betsy Palmer referred to him as Tommy Savini, like he was one of the neighborhood kids who played with her kid.

    Hi, just to be clear, Jason was definitely supposed to be dead in the original movie, but when they saw that the movie had been a success and decided to make a sequel, it was decided that Jason hadn't drowned, which doesn't invalidate Mrs. Voorhees' actions, because from her point of view, Jason was in fact dead.

  • @matthewscorner2990
    @matthewscorner2990 Год назад

    Long comment incoming. Please stick around until the end, I'd like people's opinion on something after my thoughts on the movie.
    Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, YES.
    This is honestly my favorite Friday the 13th movie of all time (although in all honestly, I just watched Never Hike Alone and Never Hike in the Snow for the first time yesterday and they come pretty damn close. Also didn't know Jason Rising was related to them, so I'll have to check that one out as well) So I have a lot of thoughts regarding Jason.
    I agree entirely that this Jason is the absolute best iteration of the character, not just with how massive and intimidating he is, not just because of his ability to haul ass when necessary, making him even scarier. But also because of how smart he is. He's no Michael Meyers, but this one is a lot less of a dunce than the original. One thing I also appreciate about this film is keeping Pamela relegated to a flashback. Don't get me wrong, Pamela Voorhees is an amazing character and Betsy Palmer did an amazing job portraying her. But I do not think she's main villain material. Especially in a who-done-it style slasher like the original film. Her story was very much tacked on at the very end of the movie aside from ONE reference to it at the start, then all of a sudden we're supposed to care about her when we've already invested so much energy into caring about our main lead. And on top of that, I find it extremely hard to believe she could murder all of them without detection or issue. Her story works best purely as a backstory for Jason himself. And I'm curious whether or not you agree. Conversely, I also love how territorial Jason feels in this movie. He was very much one note in the originals, where in this movie he feels like someone just trying to live his life alone and killing anyone who gets too close.
    (My own ideas rant incoming. Buckle up)
    So this is the franchise I've put the most thought into and have the most attachment to. If you saw my comment on your Halloween vs Rob Zombie Halloween video, you might remember I mentioned that I base my opinion on what Michael's story should be off of what Jason's is, concluding that Jason pulls off the broken child backstory and character better than Michael, something you also stated you agree with. I wanna make a movie that actually dives more into his humanity. And I had an idea for it. Firstly, I would want to show a bit more of his childhood and Pamela's acts, ultimately ending in Jason seeing Pamela's death like in the remake flashback, but ending with him following after Alice to kill her after she killed Pamela. But more importantly, both the original with Jason (so part 2) and the remake utilize the final girl's likeness to his mother a means to gain an advantage over him and get away. I think that actually has potential for the final girl to instead learn about Jason. Also thinking maybe she could be a former camper, so when she sees Jason's face, she starts to put the pieces together because she saw the incident where he "drowned" and rumor probably spread regarding Pamela's murders and subsequent death. So like in the remake, she would spend a lot of time with him in his hideout in between him going up to kill, hunt, check his traps, etc. And by the time someone comes to save her, she's protective of Jason, who likewise becomes protective of her, then things begin to devolve. It would be very Stockholmy, but I just think it'd be an interesting twist on the original. He obviously reports Jason and the girl to authorities and they both become fugitives, maybe attempting to arrest Jason and get the girl away from him, maybe she convinces them to try getting him psychiatric help, but he's not having it and just kinda gets them into more trouble and they're now basically on the run. And there would have to be something showing how tough he is, so maybe he seemingly gets killed by officers after resisting one too many times, but as the girl is being taken, he gets back up, scares the shit out of them, and hauls ass to save her. So they try running away, but the police are hot on their tails and they eventually get cornered in some building and the police are trying to break in. And I think this could be a scene where she ultimately comes to a decision that Jason needs to stay safe and he can't do that anymore with her because she'd keep getting him into trouble and he'd constantly put himself at risk protecting her. And she can't just walk away because she would be arrested eventually and potentially used to get to Jason. So she forces him to kill her, which is the first time we ever see Jason reluctant to do so. And then he finally manages to make himself do it and she tells him it's ok as she's dying, then the police break in after she dies. And then Jason is just sitting there and they try to arrest him, but then Jason begins hearing not only Pamela's voice like before, but also final girl's. With some pauses between.
    Pamela: Jason...
    Girl: Jason...
    Pamela: They need to be punished, Jason...
    Girl: You need to stay safe, Jason...
    Both: Kill them.
    At which point he goes OFF and slaughters all the cops in the building before disappearing into the night, obviously back to Camp Crystal Lake.
    Very curious to see what you and others think. I'm very proud of the idea, but I understand it loses a lot of the typical horror tone most of these movies are known for.

    The Friday the 13th series makes no sense but if you try to MAKE IT make sense, it’s actually pretty cool… Mrs Voorhees kills because she associates the camp, teenagers, and sex, with the death of Jason even though these teenagers had nothing to do with his death. (“look what you did to him”). Jason does the same thing, he basically sees teens and sex as “bad” or “sinful” and maybe he sees kids as good, which is why he doesn’t try to straight up kill Tommy in Part 4. Maybe in his messed up mind, he’s trying to protect Tommy from the “evil teenagers” because he thinks it’s right

    Despite the flaws, the 1980 original still owned the 2009 remake. The reason why was simple: Kids are believable ordinary teenagers. There’s something naive and likable in their casting and performances. In the 2009 version everyone is a winner of the genetic lottery as annoying cliche frat boys & girls. Their death didn’t feel like loss but release from their acting. Jared Padalecki and his salon quality hair from Supernatural had plot armor Jason had no hope of cutting through. Also the time periods were different. The 80s had a lot of freaky child disappearances murders so Hollywood was doing their own Grimm Fairy Tales Spin: Go camping and have sex, this might happen! While 2000s slasher horror genre kind of died with the invention of the mobile phone.

    Pet Sematary comparison would be cool. As for Friday...I think the low budget look of the original adds to the creepiness. 2009 looks too glossy. What the hell am I watching here? Fashion Ad ready Jason? That lighting...I believe it was none other than Edgar Allen Poe who, in one of his last interviews stated "Michael Bay and horror films don't mix".

    I think remake Jason is the scariest Jason also fun fact Jason is played by Derek Mears in that film who also played Swamp Thing which is easily one of my favorite comic book characters they really need to make a Swamp Thing horror film and have Derek Mears reprise his role because he was amazing

    To be fair, the 2009 "remake" isnt a remake of this original film it is primarily a remake, certain aspects, of films 2, 3, and 4.
    The remake was OK. It had a bit of TCM '03 feel to it and Jason's "look" was basically Sloth from Goonies. Also, button up Jason's GD shirt!!! Mears did a fine job and is my 5th favorite Jason behind White, Brooker, Dash then CJ.
    *The remake was better than 7-10.

    goshhh the things the remake has made me feel.
    I completely agree that it has the best Jason . It’s just so creepy and not cartonnish
    I will always appreciate the original cause if that movie didn’t exist , I wouldn’t have my fave off all time .
    Omg YES A PET SEMATARY video is necessary cause the remake receives so much hate
    My fave k*ill would have to be the burning tent scene cause it just shows how brutal Jason can be . Like he actually enjoys making his victim suffer .

    Funny thing is the lawsuit gives the writer of The first movie the rights. But unfortunately Jason Voorhees the way we know him. Is NOT a part of the ownership.
    So they can make a movie with the mom but not include Hockey Mask Jason.

    My pick is the original over the remake. The original is my 4th fave and the remake is 6th. The main reasons are the atmosphere is superior in it and we have an actual final girl, who I actually like. But with each rewatch I enjoy the remake more and more.
    Fave kill in original: Kevin Bacon's death
    Remake: Girl hung over the fire.

    If people identify with Betsy Palmer's portrayal of Pamela Voorhees, I think it's for the same reason people get into revenge fantasy movies like Tarantino's movies. The slights you or your someone you love experience every day are ramped up and so is the retribution. You get the catharsis of watching those people being punished in some brutal way.

    I honestly have a hard time picking one over the other.. if I had to pick one to watch tonight I'd pick the reboot although it's basically just me picking the lesser of two evils.. I really like the Friday the 13th franchise as whole but neither films would be in my top 5 Friday films.. I respect the original and really like the vibe, but it can be pretty boring and the acting isn't great.. I don't really get too excited when it's on TV.. I saw the reboot in theaters and thought it was okay.. there's actually a lot that I do like about it despite it ultimately being your typical modern slasher.. the characters and formula are pretty cliche.. the one thing that I absolutely hate about the film is how the final act is filmed.. the lighting is extremely dark with the shaky cam going on, it's very annoying to watch and lowkey ruins the film for me.. it's similar to the reason that I hate the final act in Rob Zombie's Halloween as well.. but there are some cool scenes as well and Jason looks pretty badass... you should compare the Pet Sematary films..

    Didn't the very concept of a Friday the 13th remake suck to begin with? Michael Bay, right? That alone begins to spell "suck." Michael DeLuca, however...that's a Friday the 13th I'll go and see.

    I honestly do not get how Friday the 13th rips off Halloween. They are two very different movies. Other then a Killer stalking and murdering teenagers I personally dont very many similarities between the two. two very different Killers, one has a motive and the other is just a boogey man who is a mysterious killer.

      Kylie is right, they saw Halloween and its success and thought we can make one of those and maybe make some money. Can't really fault them for their honesty there, lol. Halloween itself wasn't the first slasher. However the team behind Friday the 13th weren't useless film makers and put a new spin on it, in your face gore thanks to Tom Savini. A good example of how one person can change the vibe of a movie entirely. What if scenario, imagine if Savini had worked with Carpenter on Halloween... Jason doesn't even really turn up until part 2, and his character is very different to Michael. Nightmare on Elm Street highlights this, also a "rip off" of Halloween but you very rarely hear anyone say Freddy is a copy of Michael... Also Halloween isn't as original as some may think as you can trace slashers themselves back to Psycho, where you were misdirected into believing it was Norma Bates doing the slashing, seem familiar?

    My Favorite Kill In The Original Movie Is Hands Down Pamela Voorhees's Decapitation. It's STILL To This Day So Satisfying To Watch.
    My Favorite Kill In The Remake Is Jenna's Death In The Tunnel Because It Was So Unexpected & Yet It's The One Death In The Franchise I To This Day STILL Can't Stand & Find It Shockingly Infuriating To Watch Because I Loved Her Character Too Much.
    The Girl Burning In The Sleeping Bag Kill Was Also One Of My Personal Favorites. It's So Crucial & I Felt Her Pain Through The Screen Everytime I Watch That Death.
