At 4:30 that’s because you are pulling it wrong. The manual says pull the top edge out first then pull the bottom to tilt it.
I don't need a Q3. I don't need a Q3. I don't need a Q3.
Beautiful video Brandon!
yip, same here
I got one!
Great video dude! Loved your sample images.
Great video. Would love to see the editing process behind any of these amazing pictures.
One thing I have discovered with Leica digital cameras, the Q3 in particular. There is not a lot of editing necessary.
Nice summary. Are you post processing the images shown? Or are they straight out of camera and/or using one of the 'looks'?
Amazing camera ❤
My favorite thing about the Q3 is that it made the Q1 finally affordable lol. I suspected Leica was the right system for me but I didn't want to go full price to find out. Been shooting with the first gen Q for a few weeks now and I'm absolutely sold. Having proper mechanical zone focus and Autofocus in the same lens, tied to a body that can actually JPG... it's perfect. Full power when needed, totally usable JPGs straight to the phone with Fotos. Plus that body. It's all 🤌🤌
Haha damn, I was thinking about selling my Q1 to buy the Q3 but the Q1 prices have now dropped about 25% more than when I last checked! I might have to keep it for now. Enjoy the camera, it’s awesome.
@@Sojourner88 I think it's meandering towards rock bottom. I agree, there may be no reason to sell anymore. Put it on a shelf, admire the hell out of it ha.
@@Sojourner88I just did that. Loving the upgrade
Love that intro! Great shots. I so want to try out the Leica Q3. It looks like such a joy to use. Also, wooo! Surfshark! Yass
Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you!
Great video! The background music drove me a bit nuts though, though something was playing in my apartment/hallway as only the high notes peaked through
Always love your videos man. I don't know shit about cameras, but your style and production makes your work extremely engaging.
Personally I disliked the Q3 right away for the tacked on display, the position of the card slot (actually worse than on the Q2 even), the absence of a second storage device of any kind and the decision to push resolution instead of readout speed with a stacked sensor or at least a built-in ND to compensate for the 1/2000s leaf shutter. I think the camera has become a mess of box features over time.
Maybe take a look at the Nikon Zf if you haven't yet. I got it with the 28 and 40mm lenses and for me it is a perfect EDC system. Still compact, fixes most of my issues with the Q3 and even with those two lenses is about half the price.
Brandon, could you do a video on raw video recording on Android vs ProRes on the iPhone? Should be really interesting
im pretty sure no android phone does raw video recording at the moment so that would be a simple video.
@@misterjeffa2128all phones need to at least give the option for raw photos first! we need to be able to turn garbage processing off.
@@misterjeffa2128there's an app called motion cam Pro that allows you to record in raw on most new Android phones
Why? People use full auto 90% of the time. Not like you get anything more useful out of it than bragging rights.
@@misterjeffa2128almost every modern Android can do RAW. And ProRes for that matter
oh ideal... you have a camera channel Brandon! i did not know this until today!! awesome!
Finally really using the Q3 for my Europe trip.. today was my 1st Day starting in London…I brought my A7R5 too just in case I don’t like using the Q3
Found it easier and I felt more comfortable taking street photos of people with the Q3
Walking around London with a Q3 … you got big balls
Thank you for a detailed and very honest review. You covered some very valid limitations
Great video, just one question. Are your pictures edited or straight out of camera ?
i cant believe i didnt see this amazing and insightful video as soon as it posted but i am glad i found it
Damn dude! Great quality video, especially that last shot of the Q3 backlit - subscribed!
Would you say the crop modes work well enough and offer enough shallow depth of field to be used to get the benefit of more digital "focal lengths" or is it just a gimmick? Of course I realise that the quality takes a hit and that one could always just crop the full size photo to achieve the same result, but I would love to know if the quality is good enough to actually use it like that.
I'd say up to 50mm the crop looks great, beyond that you lose more detail than I'm comfortable with.
Alternative would be an A7CR. Best AF, 61 MP. If only we had that small of a 27mm F1.7. Most similar thing would be a 28 F2, but thats nowhere near as sharp as the Q3 I think
Could you do a crop 50mm on this camera and an actual 50mm with the subject in the same screen size?
I think specs matter a lot, but maybe we tend to get obsessed with the wrong specs. Great video review!
I have the X100VI in backorder. But ooooh how I’m leaning more and more to the Q3
Super good. I noticed some of the M10 images you showed were with the 40mm 1.2 Voigt - do you have or would you make a video on that lens? Been super curious about it!
With Panasonic Lumix you can also transfer raw from camera to phone via app. At least on the S5, Which brand does not?
Fuji. Does only JPEG
Love it but wanted to get the M
The Panasonic camera app allows me to copy raw files to my phone or iPad wirelessly. Even batch transfer is good with my S5
Great review Brandon, thanks.
The app is horrible. They need to update the wireless chip in the camera. They also need to limit the number of previews you see when you load the camera. You don't need all the of the previews in the camera. Let us scroll and load a bit more. The sitting down and waiting forever if your card is full is insaaane.
Are those photos edited or straight from the camera?
Very well described - thanks
7 pages of menu reminds me of my legendary Sony RX1R M2 !
Great video Brandon Y Lee! Please keep making the videos! And even more!
finally an honest review!
Tbh As I've gotten older and as I've played with played with older cameras, I've begun to think that specs dont really matter
They really don't, IQ has been the same for more or less 5 years if not more. The experience of using the camera is much more important
it does matter
@@zulfika_ if you really need a certain spec, then sure, but imo for photography, pretty much any decent flagship from the last 5 years has what you need. Video is a different story
My guess is it might be a little wider than 28mm to make up for the crop when using digital stabilizer.
Still love the fuji x 70
Great video. I love my Q3.
Kinda crazy that it only has a single SD card slot. I've sadly had multiple SD cards die, even from reputable brands. I will never switch to a camera that doesn't have dual slot, for the instant redundancy. Can't go showing up at a client saying, yeah sorry, my sd card died, we'll have to redo all the pictures.
Leicas are not for work they're for dentists shelves.
Don't feel like a Leica is the kind of camera you'd bring to a gig
In many many years of shooting with SD cards I never had an issue with them… just buy a good one.
@@FrancescoBorsotti even good ones break
That's why you don't buy an overpriced Leica to use for professional work
I believe that the Q3 battery is identical to the Panasonic DMW-BLC12 which is less than half the price
Sadly it's not. . . I have an SL2 and Q3 and you are stuck with the house brand on those. . . .
I never really got the Qs... i mean sure the 28 summilux is insane for that price... but 28mm.... cmon Leica give me something between 40-50mm and i'd kill for it.... sticking with my M4 and SL2 till then
Yeah, 28mm is the smartphone look.
I would love to see you do the opposite of this and cover something like the Canon 5d classic or other bang for buck micro budget options. Obviously your early lighting video and more recent amaran video are like that, but still, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the classic
You're in luck, it's in the works
12:35 I did not realise that was a black parrot and I thought something has gone horribly wrong with the colour!
What is the music track? please and thanks.
Intro is: Fervent - Christoffer Moe
Body is: Rhodonite - Bonn Fields
Great video!
it's simple: i see leica, i click.
Exactly. Who doesn’t like a Leica?
I would still go with M10.
What SD card do you recommend?
The one I recommend is linked in the description
Someday I'll get a Leica...someday.
Moar technique and photography experience videos! >:D
It does cost a bit, but it gives you a good feeling. A Leica is a device that allows you to pretend you are a real photographer.
Leica's sales department is laughing its head off.
It does give you a good feeling. I held one at an event and I instantly felt like the smartest person in the room. Heck, I was looking at at the other feeble peasants with their Sony's and Nikons. It was great. Definitely worth the price tag.
Learn to use a sensible aperture and your M10 photos will always be in focus. Shooting from a distance doesn’t benefit much on wide aperture, instead try f4 or f5.6. Or try zone focusing with f8. Shooting wide open works well under low light, or when you REALLY need to blur the background to isolate the subject.
And not all out of focus photos are bad. 😉
The level of insufferable ego you have to have to mansplain to Brandon 😂
It depends also on the phone
Any camera is a “point and shoot camera” if you put it in automatic.
Want to know what would make someone want to pick up a camera and take it with them, not charging 6k for it. I would be too worried to damage it and even take it out the house at that point.
Apart from Gear Aquisition Syndrome, does this camera give "bang for the buck" ? the "Leica Look" is a steep tax for me to consider :) lol
It doesn't have the full on "Leica look" that's associated with the M line. It's more about approximating that look while also keeping the physical feel of those bodies .. and marrying it to the convenience of a single lens and a passable autofocus. It does have the Leica color, though. For me, this was a big deal.
The Leica Fotos app is OKAY. Its awful at being used as a remote. It becomes laggy and the camera becomes unresponsive and loses connection constantly. Other than that, the Fotos app is good.
For the same reason the Q2 was so popular.
simple. the red dot
The only thing I regret to have ever sold is my Q1
It couldn't be that huge youtube channels are sponsored right? 😏
I don't think any leica body has remotely enough sales to be called popular but I haven't seen the figures. I mean that, the sony A7iv or the Canon r6 ii are popular, leicas are highly niche and likely don't even sell 5% of the canon or sony. They do however have a lot of clout which you could call popularity.
I have never seen one in the real world. Probably a manufacturing problem causing it to be sold out.
Great video! I don't ever see myself getting a Q3 when the A7C II checks all of my photo, video, and looks boxes.
Still prefer the Q2 over the Q3.
Brandon, can you speak to Leica's jpg color profile?
Brandon is 'intelligent AF'
Great video! hate the Leica cameras. Over priced! I dont mind spenind money on a good camera ( i have 3 medium format cameras) but i cannot justify buying those cameras when they are not even practical.
To everyone who needs to hear this; stop calling the Q series “point & shoot”
I blame Sony for this.
If Sony continues its RX1 series, there is no way Leica can deliver all these "new features" in 2023 at this price.
It’s absolutely unacceptable that a gfx 100 ll costs a bit more than a point and shoot, great video tho
Can you imagine having $6k and wasting it on a Leica 😂
I own a Q3. Not one dollar was wasted. You are just jealous, it’s obvious.
@@walkingmanvideo9455 Man what a flex. Everyone is inferior to you. You're a god among men. Owns a Q3? PHEW, look out Bill Gates and Bezos.
Sadly Hasselblad X2D 100C a better and more expensive camera with less expensive battery so I don’t think that the Leica Q3 Camera battery’s price is justified
I suspect it’s sold out as lots of rich people want it to have on their arm to flex, rather than actually use it to take photos. If so good, why don’t many professionals use it……….
You talk exactly like Casually Explained
Bling like Gucci.
please make a video about how to start making videos on a budget that dont look like shit
It is better to be wider
so it’s for photographers what BMW is for drivers
I thought I wanted a Leica camera because of the reputation, and because people tout "best in class," but I bought a Q2, and while the image quality is astounding, the price is just not something I'd justify. Hoping the Q3 has better AF than Q1or 2, but for 6k, there are more cameras out there that tickle me better than this overpriced gear. Not saying it isn't amazing, but then again, when you pay 6k, do you expect subpar performance?
Answer: no, buy the camera you enjoy using
Aren't Leicas just upsold Panasonics?
Free promo for mr.beast 🤣
Boot up time is a joke tho wont give 6k to this rather A7CR
The answer is : people have to much money
Calling q3 a point & shoot 😂
The only problem with q3 is lack of back button focus. But then again it's been same since the 1st q.
Is it not a point and shoot?
All cameras can be shoved in a bag and just go out shooting, I don't get your last remark. If you want multiple focal lengths then you need to pack either a variable zoom lens or multiple primes. Unless does not support interchangeable lenses. Just because you used your Sony, or whatever camera for shooting mostly video, which required you to carry multiple accessories, that does not mean that the camera on its own with one or two batteries and one lens can achieve the same result or better.
Leica is a fad, like Apple is fad. You overpay and then try to reason why you overpaid like an idiot. You can literally shot a raw image on any decent camera and apply the filter that will get you close to this "Leica" look. It's a digital camera after all, not film.
5k For this? smh
I preordered 4 times and canceled, somehow it was not giving justice to my hard-earned money.
After you mentioned the "Leica look" at 2:07 I shut down that video. Just advertising fot Leica. Not worth th spend your time with.
Ok bro
First
All vpns are insecure
Leica is overrated and overprices and i have M11
One of the most overpriced camera ever!
So overpriced
A7C ii can produce image as good as those, better specs, with significantly cheaper.
Leica just like Rolex, all about branding. Grand Seiko blows Rolex out of the water in term of quality, finishing, and innovation.
Japan made reasonable price, good quality, reliable.
Good luck finding a lens for the A7C that comes a little closer in quality to the summilux in the Q3.
Sad to see this become a "look at my Leica, Leica saved my life, Leica makes me whole, Leica gives me self worth " channel, so much potential to focus on the photographic equivalent to a rolex in the most derogatory way possible.
What are you baffling about ?
@@HerrGreg77 the reality distortion field that exists for anything Leica. Rolex started as a semi premium brand that simply made quality product, and morphed into a company that still makes quality watches, but sells it in a gaudy diamond encrusted case that people loose their minds over. It’s a bedazzled Toyota Camry. It’s a perfectly adequate camera, it’s fine, but it’s just fine. It’s not going to change your life, it’s not worth even 20% of what they charge, and they certainly do not have a monopoly on build quality or experience. Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is flat out a bad journalist or a salesman, or so far lost in the marketing material that it’s a form of coping with Stockholm syndrome.
@@flynnbrowning5685 then you are simply not in the market for one. Why write such a novel about it? I could never justify dropping 6k for any camera but I think its one of the best externally designed cameras on the market rn. Too many people care too much about other peoples buying descicions
@@flynnbrowning5685 What do you recommend then as a good point&shoot that delivers a comparable experience and feel to this?
You say it's not worth 20% of its asking price, so please keep your recommendations in the ~$1200 price range.
@@flynnbrowning5685 I'm fairly sure most of the content we see about leica is sponsored, I mean it's possible camera youtubers all got into leica at the same time organically but still.
It's a very cool camera, but you're right, there's a reality distortion field around it. People praise the user interface and say its so much better than the 'cluttered sony interface' when in reality the leica interface just has less features lol.
I saw a review comparing a leica to a sony and they *gushed* about how the leica is made of *magnesium alloy* and then there was zero mention that the sony is... *also* made of magnesium alloy (like most high end cameras)
This is not popular or special. Lieca probably sold the 100 Q3 it made.
