They supossed to have a flat frequency response. But they are not completely flat, there is some colouring in them. The shure SHR 840 is flatter. Nowadays everybody wants a Vshape sound. Extended bass and treble, because that is exitement they say. Bullshit. When I mixdown and mastering a song I use my studio monitors, car speakers, high end speakers and different headphones with a flat frequency response. When the result is exiting on all of them you don't need coloured speakers/headphones to bring out soms frequencies. Nowadays the majority of the music is mastered with a brick limiter. It has to be punchy, loud, with no dynamics at all. Going to the max. In the 70's and 80's it was a different story. Al lot of pop, rock, jazz, etc had a lot of dynamics in them. These records sound amazing on the MSR 7 because I have one too. When something is recorded bad it sounds bad on the MSR7. MP3 or other compressed files are sound bad either. Always use loseless. It's the same with speakers. In every decent studio in the world there will be the famous Yamaha NS 10 speakers. Your hear everything on them. Every mistake made in pre or post production they will reveil. Most music sound bad on them but well recorded stuff shines. A lot of people don't know how music is supposed to sound. That's a shame. End in the end you can always use a little bit of EQ to compensate if you want to but that's not my cup of tea. Good review though

I have not seen a review that covers that they do not have a !/4" conversion cable for most Pro audio gear.

Hi Ken, great video. I happened to find this and am deciding between the MSR7SE headphones (mainly for aesthetics) and the HD10s. I want a pair that have good noise cancellation for travelling as i have sensitive ears and can't play music too loudly before damaging my hearing. However, i don't want a wireless set with active noise cancellation. I want wired headphones for listening to vinyl too. Which would you recommend? (i also am not overly concerned with bass and don't listen to high pitched music)
    Thanks!!!

RP-HD10 is, I think, the better choice for you, my friend!

For action movies that often have explosions, fighting etc, MSR7 is not really a good choice. MSR7 are better for listening to music

Great review, better than most I've seen!! just hope that maybe in your next video you could slightly zoom out the camera so it wouldn't look weird xD, keep up the good work!
btw I'm currently owning a m40x and I absolutely love it, especially the mids. would you recommend upgrading to these since my m40s is a bit worn out?

Thanks! I will be sure to keep the camera farther away next time.
I think the MSR7 is an upgrade from the M40x in terms of clarity and soundstage but not really worth over 2x the price increase. But if you have loads of cash, go for it! xD

I think you should put a new thicker pad on m40s now that they are worn out, you will find the soundstage open up a lot, you don't have to upgrade if soundstage is your main gripe about this headphone.

its not actually about the soundstage, although it is a nice option to consider when picking a new headphone. my m40x is worn out, and 1 of the hinges seems like its gonna break, so for now I'm just considering a new heaphone... thanks for the opinion!!! by thicker pads would you recommend the hm5s?

Sounds like it's probably an air conditioner or something. I don't think he's making these vids to get rich.

It is indeed my air conditioner

Excellent review! Thanks for actually using real words to define what is going on, instead of just being like every jackass with a MSR7 review who says they have weak bass, and bright highs.
