Learning to fight for food is step one on the Eagle's road to prosperity. Spirit is learning well. Jackie and Shadow are amazing parents by letting her learn on them with such patience.
What patience Jackie shows. Between the crash landings, squealing between food intakes to get them away, attempts at their feeties and mantling, it’s hilarious! Spirit will do well, thanks to Mom and Dad for understanding. What a treat, this display of drama in the wild! Thanks for sharing. 😅😂❤️
Spirit is getting better at grabbing and protecting her food. Poor Jackie and Shadow have to teach her at the expense of their poor talons, they do do well teaching their offspring
🤣🤣that was hilarious! She wont be late for dinner again after missing it ysterday! Spirits parents did not bring a late fish for her ysterday so she went to bed with no dinner! Today she was not messing around with her Eagle skills, 🤣
This kid ain't leaving anytime soon, she knows where her meals are coming from and won't leave a good thing when it's available to her, she's a smart one.
@@MisiaUS I’m ok with that. 😂 that’s an hilarious picture to think about. Lol lol. Our baby spirit just doesn’t want to grow up. 😂. On a serious note, I did read that female eaglets stay longer than males. And Spirit is our first female 🥰🐥🫶🏼
Jackie and shadow Are doing a very good job of teaching spirit to be tough and fierce. I understand now the pulling of the talons on the parents and they’re probably very proud of it. I’m proud of spirit I love her and Jackie and shadow🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😘😘😘❣️❣️❣️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
So cool to watch this! You can almost see the lesson strategy of Jackie and Shadow; fight for your food and also "protect" it. As she steals the food and gets aggressive while protecting it they leave as if a reward for Spirit (her actions deliver success). If they are anything like horses they learn at the "release" or in Spirit's case the victory! Awesome clip - I learn something new every time I visit your channel. 💕
Jackie didn’t leave until Spirit ate EVERYTHING. I’ve been noticing J&S no longer leaves any half eaten fish in the nest since Spirit took flight. Spirit has learn to gobble it all down, because the rest of the wild is always waiting to snatch up an easy meal.
Mom & Dad eagles are So patient❤️, I love that about eagles 🦅, they're teaching their eaglet how to protect her food, Spirit is such a sweet eaglet been adorable since she's been born 🥰, and Jackie and shadow are Awesome Parents 🦅🦅🦅💞🙂
Hurray for Spirit- she finally learned how to grab the fish away from Shadow. And then she learned how to spread her wings over the fish that Jackie brought and then later on stole a piece of fish from Jackie's beak. These skills make her prepared for living on her own because now she'll be able to take fish away from other Eagles when times are tough and also protect the fish she has! Soon Spirit will not need her parents anymore.
Watched another fish meal that mom or dad worked hard to catch and she not only immediately snagged it and bit their talons (literally bites the talon that feeds her) but she wasn’t sharing. Poor mom or dad tried to get a bite when she had nearly eaten herself into a fish food coma and was taking a rest but she wasn’t having it and immediately chased them off. The look of defeat on mom or dads face as they watched her devour the last remaining bites of fish was sheer surrender to the reality that she won’t be sharing any time soon. She is definitely getting more aggressive when it comes to food which is a good thing for her long term survival, to the detriment of her parents’ talons and beaks, haha. Figuring she now has a full belly of fish and was settled in her bed for the night, off mom/dad went (probably to find another fish for their own dinner). As soon as they left, she had her usual surprised “where ya going?” look, sat up from her nest bed and hobbled over to front porch to see where they went. As if she doesn’t understand why they would leave and not stick around for more ankle biting and squawking and non-sharing of fish, haha. Yet there she sits on her front porch perch plaintively calling for them every few minutes while nodding off back into a food coma.
@@ImForgivenToo This is supposed to happen. They're teaching her survival skills to be able to keep the fish shell eventually catch on her own. They eat meals away from her when they're hungry themselves.
Grey Rzeznik yes I agree. For us to watch some people see her as a spoiled “brat” but like I wrote above “she is getting more aggressive when it comes to food which is good for her long term survival” so this is exactly what’s supposed to happen, and a good thing that she’s such a fighter.
She's doing what she needs to do to survive. What's she's doing to them like biting feet, she needs to do when she's on her own. It's part of her survival skills. She's supposed to learn to protect her fish from others, be sure she can eat it all to survive. I'm sure Jackie and Shadow are not hungry at all. We don't see them every time they eat, but they definitely know how to fish!
It is so amazing to me that J & S let her get very hungry before bringing her a fish..she has been right on their tails with every delivery now! Spirit doesn’t have a sibling to steal from so Mom & Dad have to teach her to be aggressive. Just love these three awesome eagles ❤️
I’m so happy to see this sweet girl eat. She was a hungry little Princess, will feel so much better when she can hunt! God watch over precious Spirit! 💗💗💗
Cali, Oh my goodness! She's got the snatch and grab and mantle down pat! I watch a lot of Bald Eagles fish in the winter, at Great Spirit Bluff Cliff cam overlooking the Mississippi river in La Crosse MN. So many fighting for food! Spirit would do well there! Now she just has to learn how to catch fish herself. It amazes me that Jackie and Shadow don't limp! God love our beautiful Princess Spirit 🦅 of Big 🐻 Bear! 💜
I wonder if she’s gone down to the lake for a bath yet. I would die to see footage of that. Also, you remember how much of a tank Shadow looked like at the beginning of breeding season? Well both of them looked like tanks but now Shadow is thin and trim.
Wow, Spirit is over the top, unique and wonderful all mixed in one. Great skills to make it in her own. I do feel for Jackie and Shadow. What amazing parents. ❤️ Thank you for posting this since I had missed her adventures today.
Shadow had to jump away from Spirit - LOLOL! Beautiful nest approach of Jackie with the second fish. And she brought an awesome black crappie for fish number three. Spirit makes a cute little wing tent with she mantles. Love her foot grabs - she's so quick!
This young bird has a love of feet. I think of all the sayings you know, put the foot down and all that. Foot in mouth is a constant.... fits her to a T. I cannot see her going hungry although she seems convinced that her crop is forever empty!! I am sure she will always have sufficient. Her parent birds are so patient, I only hope they both survive with a left and right foot.
On second thought?? Thank goodness ‘Eggbert’ didn’t hatch. Spirit would’ve brought sibling rivalry to an entirely different level😱. Thank you for another terrific video.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
I love spirit she’s one of a kind Jackie and shadow are the greatest of Eagles. It’s hilarious. I also felt sorry for the parents not eating, but I’m sure they have a way of eating on their own, but they are so good to spirit and spirit is one wild, smart one I love them.!!
That little spoiled thing is going to have to learn to hunt sometime or another. Daddy always provides for her, mom too but all dad needs to hear is her squeal and he's on it lol.
It will take a year or so on her own to learn to fish and hunt. In the meantime she will need to steal from other eat roadkill to survive. J & S want her to be one of the 50% who survive the first year. Spirit will do just fine!
Awwwww. Sweet Shadow and Jackie have so much patience with their little one. That ravenous appetite of baby Spirit! Not even a crumb for mama Jackie. lol. I know too many human kids young and not so young who are this way. Yikes! 😘💋🦅🦅🦅💋
Watching again this morning Spirit went after mom/dad like a tiger (I still can’t tell which is which) but she seems to be more aggressive with mom (maybe it’s a female to female thing) versus dad. She went in hard for their talons and wouldn’t let go even as they flapped around and tried to escape her vice grip. I think I’m starting to understand how she will eventually become independent because before long it will be too dangerous for them to deliver fish to her haha. They’ll either have to do a fly by drop off or she will have to get her own food, because as it looks now they might end up with a missing talon at this rate. I’m actually scared for them each time I see them coming in for a landing now with hungry Spirit already there or right behind them, ready to attack. But amazingly, they never seem too bothered and just tune her out or give her space until they realize she will never let them get anywhere near her food that they just personally delivered and leave. I’m thinking the days of feeding her beak to beak are long gone. This is how an eaglet becomes an eagle. Update: one of the parents just came to nest with a huge fish followed by other parent flying in and squawking as if to warn that Spirit was tailing right behind and ready to eat and sure enough in came Spirit hot on her tail with a killer look and beak wide open. However parent (I think maybe it was Jackie) told Shadow to move out of the way and she would handle it, and sure enough she kept control of that fish and did not let Spirit take the fish from her talons and actually was able to feed Spirit one bite after another. I was impressed. And then Spirit actually flew away after she was done eating, leaving both of her parents behind with some left over fish. I think that’s the first time I have seen her be the first to leave when both parents are still on the nest. She’s growing up!
Spirit is saying, dontcha know that ALL food is mine?! Go get me more or I'll hold my breath and then go after your talons. If that doesn't work, I'll pitch a fit now GIT!!
Spirit's parents will feed her right up until she decides to leave one day. She might have caught her own fish or not by then, they will not teach her per se. She might leave with never catching a fish yet, that is totally normal. Spirit's a fighter with a LOT of spunk as we all know, so she should do well out there in the real world.
My word that young Spirit has one RAVENOUS appetite . I hope somehow you have cameras where they fish so we fan hopefully watch Jackie and Shadow teach Spirit how to hunt and fish . That would be PHENOMINAL to see I had the joy of watching g seagulls teaching their young to fly in a group with both parents following close behind all 3 chick's IT was awesome to watch them teaching them to be gulls

did Shadow give Spirit that 1st fish? or did he misplace it? LOL Jackie just threw the 2nd one in there Spirit snatched the 3rd one like a gangster! How can you tell Jackie and Shadow apart? I think it's fascinating how quiet Jackie and Shadow are and how noisy Sprit is. Kind of like our kids. . . these birds are SO beautiful. And they picked a beautiful spot to build their cozy little home too. . .
They may have to go to the river until she comes there then fish. I think she's had a tough time learning because of the location of the nest., although when she fledged she did so with ease. Mom and dad may need to figure something else out with the fish...they are getting attacked. Unsure about the continuous sqeeing..Jackie ignores at times and Shadow leaves..maybe to get her to follow and hunt?.
It was quite comical watching Shadow hurry and drop the fish and try backing away but it didn't matter. Spirit knows that the fish is almost always at the talons, I personally think it's normal behavior with only one eaglet in the nest.
These birds are ruthless, the West End three Eagles mob their parents when they bring in food, let's be real, they are not teaching her anything it's instinct to go after food and protect it.
It is instinct but Spirit used to play with her food, and Shadow & Jackie quickly showed her what happens..you lose the fish! Spirit didn’t have a sibling to learn to steal, protect and quickly eat.
Im new to eagle watching videos and Im loving this group! Can anyone tell me, do eaglets learn to hunt from their parents or is it all instinctual and at some point will Jackie and Shadow say “That’s it, you’re on your own kid!”?
Welp, now I understand a bit better why - 21 months after this video was taken Jackie has limited tolerance for Spirit’s encroachment into Mom & Dad’s domain. I’m still learning the behavioral logistics of eagles - and this explains a lot! 😂
Oh wow spirit is wrestling dad. Shadow and Jackie have to find a secret place to eat their fish. Spirit never ever going to leave the nest if parents keep bringing her food.😂🤣🤣😂
@@ImForgivenToo Spirit acts very aggressively for a young bird, but it may be a case of accelerated survival techniques. Interestingly, the parent birds don't seem upset by it.
@@carolwilliams7052 this bird, when it was still young, would not allow the parents in the nest when the other egg was still visible....I believe it has taken ownership of this nest...Jackie and Shadow better built another nest somewhere else. the parents demeanor shows they are troubled with this eaglet from "hell" 😧
@@ImForgivenToo It seems to me that you may be personalizing Spirit's actions and relying on your own brand of personification rather than accurately analyzing true wild animal behavior.
It's pretty normal because that is where the fish usually are. The Catalina West nest has 3 eaglets and I have noticed that when they deliver food they actually go after their parents full force to get them away.
Hey Spirit! Pretty sure if they have intentions on eating the food the hunt, the nest would be the last place they'd come to🤣 Neither one of your parents want to lose a foot, toe or talon little missy!! I hope she calms down when it's time for a mate lol. Poor Jackie was panting. What a champion Mom!!🏆🦅
What a little witch. Poor Shadow, and yes; I understand it's all part of the learning process and yet it hurts to see her treat Jackie and Shadow with so little respect. Roximama is right, of course. I'm just sentimental and love Shadow and Jackie.
Spirit lives by what her instincts tell her to do and the lessons from Jackie & Shadow. She can’t show respect. J & S are teaching her great survival skills. It takes young eagles a year to be able to fish and hunt on her own. Until them she will rely on road kill and stealing from others. She has learned her lessons well. I am so proud of all three of them❣️💗🦅🦅🦅💗
She is practicing her "food fight" skills so that when she's fishing on her own, she can steal fish from the other Eagles' talons. Jackie and Shadow know that she must practice these skills with them first.
Learning to fight for food is step one on the Eagle's road to prosperity. Spirit is learning well. Jackie and Shadow are amazing parents by letting her learn on them with such patience.
I can't get over their patience with her
Will Spirit Learn to 🐠 ????!

sqeeing..Jackie ignores at times and Shadow leaves..maybe to get her to follow and hunt?.
It was quite comical watching Shadow hurry and drop the fish and try backing away but it didn't matter. Spirit knows that the fish is almost always at the talons, I personally think it's normal behavior with only one eaglet in the nest.
Wow she’s big. Jackie’s mini me lol. It’s so cute. She sure eats that fish fast. Dad must have unzipped it. 😊
And to think, a couple of weeks ago I was concerned that Spirit wasn't being aggressive enough!
She only quiets down when they leave
cphershon.....it has taken ownership of this nest...
Like kids who will cry, complain, etc, but if you leave the room they get quiet.
It's called survival skills!
Tug-o-talon time🤣
She definitely doesn't sneak up on them anytime 😂
Im new to eagle watching videos and Im loving this group! Can anyone tell me, do eaglets learn to hunt from their parents or is it all instinctual and at some point will Jackie and Shadow say “That’s it, you’re on your own kid!”?
They'll be teaching her.
She has the mangling down Pat now … That’s important.
I am sure that Shadow and Jackie is very hungry and will go eats somewhere
My goodness 😳
Welp, now I understand a bit better why - 21 months after this video was taken Jackie has limited tolerance for Spirit’s encroachment into Mom & Dad’s domain.
I’m still learning the behavioral logistics of eagles - and this explains a lot! 😂
I think Shadow is talking to himself lol
Oh wow spirit is wrestling dad. Shadow and Jackie have to find a secret place to eat their fish. Spirit never ever going to leave the nest if parents keep bringing her food.😂🤣🤣😂
I'm wondering if an eaglet offspring grabbing the parents' talons is a usual "thing" or something that's unique to Spirit ???
I have watched another nest and I have NOT seen the eaglets behave like this one with the parents. There is something very disturbing with this bird 😧
She’s a noisy young thing. 🦅
Takes after her mom
When and how does Spirit learn to be calm and get along with others?
She's learning to fight for her food. It's imperative for her survival.
Survival skills are more important. I was told that adult eagles give the young ones a chance to learn even, which I think is great,!
I am so proud of all three of them❣️💗🦅🦅🦅💗
@@jeannef624 Thank you Jeanne. It will be wonderful watching her mature and learn to live on her own. Such beautiful birds. thanks again.
I guess Jackie and Shadow have to eat elsewhere, for now.
Lol, poor Shadow.
What's the psychology behind Spirit constantly biting her parents' talons? 🤔
She is practicing her "food fight" skills so that when she's fishing on her own, she can steal fish from the other Eagles' talons. Jackie and Shadow know that she must practice these skills with them first.
@@orangeziggy348 🙄🙄🙄
Rough when some of your battle scars are from your own kid, LOL! She is her mother’s daughter! Always talking with her mouth full.
