I didn't really know of the Grateful Dead but this song was played in Willmete close to Winnetka IL. and a year later I was toodeloo my family's house and went to Boulder,CO, and met my new spiritual teachers at 17.
I remember being at this show. Tickets were maybe $7.00. I was one of the many fans sitting on the floor at McGaw Hall in Evanston which was at the time where the NW Wildcat's played.
Fantastic performance and what a great recording. Also super cool photos!!!! I went to Northwestern University but got there in the fall of 79. Met a lot of deadheads there and saw tons of shows all over the Midwest and beyond in my college years.
This was at McGaw Hall- I remeber this show only because The Allman Brothers Band was playing a 3+ hour show just miles away from Evanston at the old Chicago Stadium. Everyone was saying Jerry and Dickey Betts had a bet as to who would play longer hahaha
@@BeckyWithrow My apologies, but I'm having difficulty figuring this out 😔. Spoiler alert: I'm an old hippie. Don't know if that helps, just sayin' . I need to go grab some grub. May we carry on with this later?
Both Bobby and Jerry come through very clearly ... And such a nice interplay... Keith at the top of his game, too. I'll have to listen on something other than ear pods to really appreciate Phil, but this is the tasteful, reflective Dead that first pulled me in.
Man y'all had me excited when I saw the thumbnail, thought this would have live footage. Have still yet to find much footage from 73, seems to be non-existent or just not on the Internet yet. Would love to see some recordings from that year

Holy Cats ! I was born in '73. This is a Wonderful recording,,, yeah, this sounds like it was recorded by Nature, who sneaked it on to someone's tape in the northeast highlands of the Philzone , upstream of the Withywindle watercourse .
I love how on the late 71 72 and 73 soundboards Keith's Piano is mixed loud and clear . As much as I love the sound of the 76 77 and 78 Betty boards I find she had Keith's piano mixed way to low in the latter years which is a shame because his playing is so amazing . I alos think his playing was better in his early years with the band . More creative and more varied . Keith was so talented at making every note count and was a master at less is more.. He never overplayed. He played the perfect amount of notes. Even his most sparse playing was extremely interesting and imaginative . Many poeple cite 77 as the bands live peak and a strong case can be made but for me it's 1970 to 73 and I actually prefer 73 to 72. Vancouver 73 is my favorite show. Keith is Unbelievable at that show.
@@PeytonCappitelliPhil Lesh documents this in his book. In fact, Phil admitted they were trying to “lose Keith onstage” because they were all so annoyed with his playing
@@thomasrobertson9643 his playing wasn’t terrible my comment was harsh but he had plenty of off nights towards the end. His playing became a lot less complementary, and a lot more stick to the chords and follow Jerry. Although early Keith was a force to be reckoned with.
I first saw them live about a month after this. And maybe half a dozen times all told. Only one show disappointed me, probably the last one, not sure if it being the only daytime show had anything to do with it. (Interesting my userid had some numbers added to it…)
Someone please transcribe Keith's keyboard parts into sheets!! I can play the versions of this song available online but need to know these fills and runs

Wow, this sounds awesome! 1973 is one of my most favorite years for live Grateful Dead music, so I am looking forward to hearing the whole recording.

great pics too! I recall that show well.
Wow...fall of 1973 so I shouldn't be surprised, but this is a great, very clean version.
My first show, October 1973 in Minneapolis, and I was a Deadhead for life. Of course the combo of music and acid probably had something to do with it.
Of course 😊
My first show too. Acid as well, and life-long dead head at that point.

Kieths playing became quite spotty and borderline terrible by 77 so the dead wanted him turned down
Never fade away , I dig all that man, I wasn't even born till ,'81, nfa,DFFL,much love
Haha you read my mind! 72 vs 73, really tough choice, I can't quite call it. But what about late 72 compared to early 73? I'd go with early 73

When the money runs low
Head to toe guns glow in the dark and park up that ass
A Soldier’ task to grasp the gun barrel
The gangster’s apparel and tear a bone out
A gun route from the murder mouth of said clout
To come about down gun route
I seen a kid with a gun having fun
So I blazed his buns with bikinis on vacations
I saved some for everyone so they could get spun
I’m number one
I sum up Suns for from this a ton of twist hums slides off the wrist
Type fist that twice itch I missed the dissed
A trick with a flip got a cinch with the lift
I seen grift and slight hitch on the flight risk
It’s suicide a mile a minute
To begin it
To see what’s in it
I’m a little different because I’m Royal
And toil over the Psychedelic Brew make it boil
I coined all ya’ll into the wall
And seen you sprawled all over the wall
Like a follower of the Dollar and nothing more
You stood tall once then did fall
I call it baller
I am into the crack cocaine tokes with LSD
Call it slow pokes graffiti
All the beat be heat see
I seen a tree and key up
I ski up
The lead cut into two
The crew did drew down
Like they always do
I always slew crew with blue
I true to these genes
What it means is light beams
I laser light excite like winning teams
I thrust this dreams into creams
And stacks of cold cash
I got a ratchet I back flip
I take it
With the sack lit
Your back split
I just pulled a hit
Like that’s some type trip
I mic up the sick
Hype up a bitch
With the the type cut which
Is inside strut from the sum
I run a gun from here to Hell’s Station
I seen a spaceship
Flying over the wasteland
All Soldier in command

You must be one of those cool rapper dudes!
I am a Psychedelic Rapper. My chain is rainbow!
All you gotta do is eat right
You take flight

I light the lights up
Like old school money
Honey beat the dummy seated
Bleeded out his mouth deceased tripped
And ski it
I lead flip the heat trip
Deleted
I conceited relapse be maximum
Some rap for some contact
On the axe he swung
We got a party in row 3

Number 1 gun from the tongue spit
Yo hung hits that rub off
A dub off
I lit the sauce that raw shut the cut
I nuts I trucks the stuck in the buckhead
Get flow red I slow bled
I roll dead
Cold spread
Molded with folded
Clipped it sipped it
Dripped it
Psychedelic
Hit the head up again
