    I've had a few co-workers over the years that need this test. They fake hearing loss to get out of work and it works. Supervisors will assign their work to others because of the hassle it is to have to repeat things to them several times. Yet their hearing seems to work fine when its something non-work related.

    I found this video interesting. I actually have hearing loss in both ears and when I was 10 years old my parents took me to the audiologist. They tested me for everything and couldn't find a reason for my hearing loss. The doctor thought I might be faking it, but for most of my life it's gotten worse. I even get pain, dizziness/vertigo, ringing, and all sorts of crap. I used to get sick all the time and have eat infections constantly. I'm thinking "how the hell could someone fake a hearing test?" You CAN'T! Either my doctor was judging me based on my age, or its all in my head. I even went to the audiologist recently about my symptoms and they said without a doubt I have similar levels of hearing loss in both ears.

    A year ago I was diagnosed with moderate bilateral mixed hearing loss. Recently I got my one year hearing test done and my Audiologist said push the button even if you can’t hear the noise. I don’t know why he would say that to me because in my mind he’s telling me to literally push the button even when I can’t hear it then he gets confused on why I’m not pressing the button and said I can’t hear the sounds because they are to quite. Before my hearing loss I was diagnosed with auditory processing disorder. Like why in the heck would you tell me to push a button when I can’t hear the sounds

      Elizabeth Abols that is exactly what happened to me. I was diagnosed with auditory processing disorder in the 5th grade and my mom and I noticed my junior year in high school that I started to turn the tv up to almost 100. We got my hearing checked turns out I need hearing aids. I also have this neurological disorder called microcephaly that cause my head to be smaller than the normal average head it also causes my ears to sit lower, and my ear canals are shaped weird. We that that could have caused all the ear issues because it is a symptom of microcephaly. I also get horrendous ear infections to the point if I don’t go to the doctor to do something about it I could go deaf that was happening since I was a little kid

The Reserve unit I was attached to lost all of my paperwork to prove I was injured on Active Duty so it has been very difficult to prove. sounds to me like he got to you. Yes he may be a professional but I can promise you there are plenty of people who fake hearing loss and still get compensation. I'm not saying you should but this guy is just trying to make his time easier by getting people not to make claims. You dont have to have severe hearing loss and you as a individual would not know if you've had minor or major. Same with tinnitus, you may not always be conscious of exactly when you have ringing if it for 1 is not severe or you've grown custom to it. only time I'm able to really tell is in dead silent rooms or when it decides to ring when I'm trying to sleep. And some of my test have indicated that I've had a loss in hearing while others show fine. My point is a machine is not going to tell you everything because you might feel fine one day and bad another. Dont sell yourself short, these people just want to get paid to do as little paper work as possible.

      Loren, have you had a hearing test to even know if you have hearing loss that falls within the VA's disability guidelines? Not trying to bust your balls, but I have service-connected hearing loss and it SUCKS. But unless you've been officially tested, you can't just assume you have disabling hearing loss. I've read a ton of VA Board of Veteran Appeals (BVA) cases on this and most vets get denied simply because they assumed without getting tested.
      Regarding coming here to originally get tips on faking, well, if you really have disabling hearing loss, you would never need to "fake it" even if you lost your records. So that excuse doesn't fly soldier. If you have it, it will show up on any test, You do not need to fake anything.

    • @JohnB-dr8sk
      @JohnB-dr8sk 3 года назад +1

      @@modifiedjaymill No, you can't fake a VA or DOD hearing test and then get paid. It is true that some vets fake Tinnitus claims and get paid for those unfortunately, but if a vet tries to fake a VA/DOD compensation claim exam for Hearing Loss, they will get caught, it will be noted in their claim record, and they will probably get denied for all of their other claims as well.

      @@JohnB-dr8sk i just had a hearing test this past Wednesday. I'm a bit worried after watching this. I did not fake the test as i was an artillery soldier and shot over 60,000 artillery rounds. Ever since the first shot ringing started in my ears and speech has been very hard to understand. During the word recognition part i couldn't understand the word they wanted repeated and i said nothing or what i naturally say when talking to people, "what", i don't understand" and etc. I've been suffering for a long time and found it last year that you can get compensation after hearing years ago that hearing loss was not compensated because they gave you ear plugs. I just know before my days in artillery i was like a bat and since like a dead bat. I had a buddy who was blind and i was "deaf" and they always had us together so i could see and he could hear for us. Hope she didn't think i was faking it.

    Julie herein asks: "Can you 'fake' NOT having a hearing problem. Hubby is in denial . . . ?" I was in combat at age 17-18. When I returned home the military gave all returning members a hearing test. I remember specifically the doctor telling me words to the effect: "I have bad news and good news. You have a hearing loss, but it is at the high ranges, which is the sound of most women's voices. So while you have a loss, you simply won't be able to hear what women are saying to you." He had a good laugh at his little pun/joke.
    Anyway, he said I was entitled to hearing aids. I said no way at such a young age am I wearing hearing aids. That was fine for the Doc who I assume was also charged with trying to save the DoD money. Long story short, I went thorough the next 40 years suffering because I had too much pride. I asked everyone to repeat themselves, I could only hear half of what people were saying to me. And a few years back I read that hearing loss causes all kinds of other damage including depression, stress, high blood pressure, etc.
    If you want to convince hubby to treat his hearing loss lead him to some sites that talk about all the problems untreated hearing loss causes. Also, with the new technology these devices are so small that no one will know he's wearing them. (No one has ever noticed my hearing aids. The CIC models, completely in the canal, are undetectable.). And even my new RIC (receiver in the canal) are not noticeable. I wear glasses so the devices blend in with the frame arms which makes them mostly invisible.

    I just had a hearing test done and the word recognition part was hard for me. I asked the audiologist what i should do if i don't understand the word that is to be repeated. I wasn't saying anything other than, "what", "i don't understand" or something along those lines. She said i could say something that sounds like it, repeat the whole sentence or nothing. • @JohnB-dr8sk
      @JohnB-dr8sk 3 года назад +1

      Lol, yes, it can be hard for men to admit that they have a disability because they don't want to be thought of as being a "cripple." I went through this after having lost part of my hearing due to a training accident in the military as a young guy. I was in TOTAL denial despite it being in my service records. I was scared they would throw me out over it. It wasn't until I was older that I came to grips with when my hearing loss worsened. Thankfully I got service-connected through the VA for it, which made it easier to talk about with people because it was a "military-related" injury. But for others, it will always be embarrassing.

  • @sarahspindler2914
    @sarahspindler2914 5 лет назад +11

    That actually kind of makes me mad. A lot of people with hearing loss try to (and sometimes successfully) make testers think they can hear well enough to pass and a lot of people with hearing loss wish they didn't have it. People can get hearing loss from many things, such as ear infections, chemotherapy, and being in the army. Even if you get compensation, faking a hearing loss, even if it were possible, is selfish. PS I have hearing loss myself (and managed to fake pass hearing tests for years but I finally accepted my hearing loss and now wear hearing aids).

    • @sarahspindler2914
      @sarahspindler2914 5 лет назад

      Also, when he was talking about the tympamotery, I knew there was no faking that and whether you had hearing loss or not it would be found on that test and the pure tone and speech tests are to find out how severe your hearing loss is in those tones.

    • @jake12.48
      @jake12.48 Год назад

      You know what's not selfish.... Serving many years in the army sacrificing so much time away from and things you enjoy... Knowing something is wrong with your ears and the doctor telling you there isn't. There is nothing wrong with wanting composition after serving in the army.

    • @sarahspindler2914
      @sarahspindler2914 Год назад

      @@jake12.48 that's not the same as pretending to have a hearing loss thohugh because those people actually have a problem with their ears, or at least have good reason to believe there is. I'm just talking about people who know their hearing is fine.

I need to replace them but the last time I took a test, the audiologist said although I do have damage, it wasn't enough for the insurance to cover it. So I had to wait six months for another test. I genuinely do have hearing loss and when I go to the movies, I have to ask for the headsets so I can understand the dialogue. I have the CC on my tv's so I can read along. The symptoms happen because your brain “converts” the effects of a mental health issue into disruptions of your brain or nervous system" - Cleveland Clinic. I went to the hospital because I lost the ability to speak, I thought I was having a stroke. I guess the doctor recognized the symptoms, and sent a psychologist in. He worked with me for about an hour, slowly my speech returned. Turned out I was just really depressed. There was absolutely nothing physically wrong with me, and I wasn't faking. I imagine the same thing could happen with hearing.

    Music is another thing, I can hear it perfectly with headphones but when I'm in my car I need to have the speakers higher than normal. My mom was in the car with me and she kept telling me to turn the music down because it was too loud, but I was having serious trouble hearing it properly. My dads mom is partially deaf. I was afraid of getting a hearing test but this has encouraged me. I didn't want to be thought of as faking it and wasting people's time and money, but it's only going to get worse because it is already worse than when I was little.
    I can hear all the normal hz frequencies but I didnt know the hearing tests were so thorough! Now I'll be able to know exactly how little I can hear.

It is totally not believable when they can hear me talking in a light indoor voice and respond appropriately but the audiogram reads 80, 90, NR Billatterally on all frequencies im not buying that! especially when every other audiogram before that said 10s and 15s on all frequencies for the other 19 years.
    What I dont tell them is :-) They cannot claim VA disability for hearing without seeing an audiologist and they all think turning in their BS audiograms in at their final physical will get them their disability points.

      HI Emmett. I am sensitive to your concern. However, it looks like you are just searching for reasons not to try hearing treatment. Just be honest with yourself. If you are concerned about your hearing and brain health, give them a shot. Most clinics offer a period where you can return them for a refund. If you don't hear the benefit, return them. No harm, no foul.

    • @JohnB-dr8sk
      @JohnB-dr8sk 3 года назад

      Hector, as a vet, if you makes you feel any better, you would probably lose even more of your hearing due to being on the flightline if you would have joined, to the point that after your service, you would be partially deaf and life would suck big time. Most young people don't know just how bad military service can destroy their bodies later on. If they did, most wouldn't join. I was like you- full of enthusiasm to join. But after getting out at age 23, my body was broken and I had lost part of my hearing for life. I have never fully recovered from it and it has only gotten worse with age. Tons of health problems from it. So as much as I'm sure you would love to serve, consider looking for another career that inspires you, or serve in another capacity that accepts your current hearing loss. Best, John

    What frustrated me was the fact that during my separation physical tne doctor stated " You have a slight hearing loss, but; it's not service related." That was an outright lie. When I entered I had to have perfect hearing, the position (MOS) REQUIRED communication with aircraft to control them. I would not have been accepted had my hearing been less than perfect. In the last 18 mos or more before I separated I developed tinnitus. By the laws they operate under any injury you sustain while in the military short of deliberate self-harming yourself, is considered service related. (I suspect one might even claim the mental condition that led you to self-harm might be considered service related.)
    So faking it - CERTAINLY, NOT ACCEPTABLE. Doctors who lie to military personel about their injuries not being service related ALSO NOT ACCEPTABLE.

    My left ear feels clogged and there’s slight ringing. I can hear somewhat but it’s incredibly muffled sounding. I bought an ear camera on Amazon and I don’t see anything physically blocking my ear. It’s stressing me out and I want to go to the ENT doctor but I’m worried they won’t take it seriously and think I’m faking.

    I actually was searching something if actually is possible for audiologist to fake my hearing test result to make me to buy hearing aids. I have tinnitus for about 5 years now and it feels like it gets worse, I am not sure if I also having hearing loss or it is my tinnitus disturbing me to hear properly. So I went to audiologist and after test I have been told that I have 25-50 decibels (mild to moderate) hearing loss. I was highly recommended to buy hearing aids, I do suspect I do have some level of hearing loss but I also hd a feeling that audiologist was trying to make money and sell me hearing aids. So here question comes if it is possible for audiologist to lie about my hearing loss results…?

    • @butterflylr
      @butterflylr 2 года назад

      I don’t think they lied about the results but it sounds like they are using any hearing loss to sell you on devices. I have mild loss in my right ear and moderate in my left. I was told I was eligible for devices but we discussed the pros and cons and it was never a “you NEED these!”. I did end up getting them only because insurance pays. I am quite glad because I’m benefitting a lot more than I realized.

    Watched another one of your videos and this one came up next. I’m not clear why anyone would fake hearing loss (seems demented) but I am curious if you can be ruled sound of hearing if your problem is more narrow. In my case, I can hear quite well, at a wide range of frequencies and volumes. My issue is that as soon as there is the slightest bit of white noise I can’t seem to discern speech at all and other sounds are quite difficult to hear. It’s always been a problem for me, but lately (I’m mid 30s) it seems to be getting REALLY bad. I can’t understand my kids talking right next to me with the kitchen sink running. I was trying to research how they go about detecting this and it seems like often people will be found to be sound of hearing on pure tone tests and other measures of ability to hear and then find it difficult to get a diagnosis that actually acknowledges their issue. I’m not clear on what exactly could be done for my issue, but I’d like to know if there are any tests they can do for hearing ability, especially people talking, with white noise or just other noise in the background. Any info appreciated. Thanks!
