      George V put his crown, and his head, above everyone else. The British government was prepared to welcome them but he changed his mind. It was a combination of bad luck and bad judgement. Nicholas wasn't with the family when the kids came down with measles. The tsarina delayed and delayed waiting for him to get back. There was a slim chance the kids could have been evacuated covertly but they fell ill and couldn't be moved. After that window of opportunity expired it was always going to be difficult. I never could understand why the kids weren't sent away the year before the situation deteriorated so badly. Even as a precaution.

    • @seadog2396
      @seadog2396 3 года назад +10

      The kids weren't sent away - as they should have been - due, once again, to Alexandra's Major Selfishness, which was Always at work.
      She couldn't bear to be without them, and she couldn't stand not being in control at all times.
      Well, at the end of the day, Alex and Nicky made sooo many bad decisions that they are incalculable.

    • @darcyissues
      @darcyissues 2 года назад +4

      Alexandra is almost impossible to get, really. Let's start with the change she experienced the second she set foot on Russia, it was as she changed into this ortodox fanatic, plus, she was there like... 2' ago and started making remarks about how things were managed on the very verge of her father-in-law's death. And that didn't stop there. So when I say this woman, days away from being shot was telling Nicholas not to sign anything, as in trying to make him guilty of the Brest-Litovsk's treaty!!! She was out of her bloody mind. I sincerely hope she got enough seconds once the soviets showed their guns to understand what she has done, and her part in what her family was about to experience.
      I'm 38, almost 39, and I started reading about them back in 1990, almost 3 decades and I have tried and failed to find any particular trait, even a mild one, that might redeem this woman. Sure, she loved her children but even the children, by the end of it, understood, especially Olga, that it was better to keep her out of things rather than informed for it always backfired. I know they were, to both Nicholas and herself, each other's love of their life but in dynastic terms she was the worst possible option as her in-law quickly understood after spending a bit of time with her, and right they were.

    • @OpheliaNL
      @OpheliaNL Год назад +2

      @@seadog2396 It's always been noted that the children were somewhat emotionally stunted (even socially at times) because of how coddled and secluded they were. Obviously this was unavoidable because of their status, but to that extend? How would these girls have interacted with possible suitors and cope with financial and state affairs on their own behalf after marriage?
      It seems that these girls were constantly at the mercy of their mother's emotional state and forced into a codependent bond. Letters and diary entries don't tell us the full story, but it was obvious that they did everything in their power to put their mother's emotional needs before their own.
      It's not surprising that Olga wasn't well suited to be a practicing surgical nurse. Being exposed to such horrors and stress without the proper foundations to deal would make most of us crumble under pressure. Tatiana was an outlier, because Alexandra also wasn't able to cope with the stress after a while.
      It's often noted that Olga was more aware of the situation due to her ''melancholic'', practical, and forthright nature, but those are mere adjectives. The reason why she was more ''aware'' and suffering under the situation was age related. One becomes wiser with age and she knew the situation her parents created was dire. Though i'm pretty sure the other girl were aware too, it's not as if they didn't talk among themselves. They just didn't express it as clearly in their writings.

What people don't seem to appreciate is that 958,000 of George V's subjects died fighting in the Great War. He was in an excrutiatingly difficult position. Why would ANY King want to risk any more lives after such bloodshed? It's different for you and me. We don't have to worry about our families and our countries as though they were the same thing. George did.

    King George V was constitutional monach, a figurehead, who had no influence on decision making by the government of the day. The fact that the Romanovs were related to George V gave them no more right to live in Britain than any other Russian relatives of British nationals.
    Further, how would it have served British interests to make an exeption for the Romanovs in regard to immigration into Britain? The Provisional Government had pledged to carry on with the war, seeing the Romanovs living in Britain might even have destabliized British-Russian relations at a critical time in the war.
    Here is a list of the those who were responsible for the murder of the Romanovs:

      No. The British Government sent troops to Russia, as did France, Japan, the USA, and so on.

    What fun this is! OMG, I can't take it! Reality is really coming through! Hello, my name is, Brittney Lee Hill Collier. My destiny is to be a famous, British actress, and a Royal, for the United Kingdom. :D HAHA, and I figured out that Henry Cavill is supposed to be my Husband. That means, his Destiny is to be a Royal, with me, too. Henry Cavill is from the United Kingdom. He is British. He is the Famous, British Actor who plays, Superman. He has also been in, The Tudors (it is a television show), The Man from Uncle, Mission: Impossible-Fallout, Enola Holmes, and, he plays Superman again, in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. I figured out he was my Husband in March, of 2021. Gosh, I’ve been trying to figure out which Famous, White Actor was my Husband since, the year 2011, or so. So now, I’ll be traveling back to the United Kingdom, from Fullerton, C.A. (Fullerton, C.A. is in the country of the United States). I went to the United Kingdom, already, in 2020. Now that I know who my husband is, and that he does live in the United Kingdom, I’ll be heading back to the United Kingdom, this year, for the final time, to marry him. Yay for me, it’s Henry Cavill! :D I’m so excited! He IS super sexy; a real, LIVE Prince. I’m lucky. We are both super sexy and confident. He has a really cute home (I’ve seen it online), and a wonderful looking family (I’ve checked them out online, too)! I want lots of kids. I know how much he values family, and tradition. He’s my dream man. He is so beautiful. I am a cute, sexy, obedient, traditional, Southern, African American female, and I still haven’t gotten to meet him. What the heck, world? Society has been so disobedient, disoriented, purposeless, and in disarray, that I couldn’t EVEN muster the ability to simply fly to the United Kingdom, meet my husband, and be married. I AM happy, that I have the money, and the ability to fly back to the United Kingdom. I will simply, bring a backpack, and hike around the United Kingdom, until I find him

      George V was a constitutional monarch. Any monies paid to the Bolshevik
      government would have had to have been his own.
      In 1917 the overthrow of the Tsar led to a Russian government that was pledged to
      continue the war. In 1917 Britain was losing nearly 500 people per day, the French,
      twice that number. The French army was in revolt, Geurge V had felt unsure of his
      position to the extent that he changed his surname. The Romanovs were foreign
      nationals. In March 1917 the overthrow of the Tsar led to a Russian government that was pledged to continue the war. The revolution was was greeted as a step
      forward by newspapers such as the Daily Mail.
      By the time of the November revolution the Romanovs were in Tobolsk, which was
      further away from Petrograd than London. The German Kaiser, who was also a
      relative of the Romanovs would seem to have been in in a far better position to
      negotiate with the Bolsheviks than George V.

      +TheVilla Aston Totally agree...King George should help them from his own money ... for that's was made alliances marriages isn't it?...And of course there are others Royal relatives more guilty or at least in same indifference fault...Royalty have power ,influence and money to try to help at one of them blood isn't it? Maybe they couldn't help but it should try ...but nobody tried...

      +TheVilla Aston the fate of Romanovs could be a better one if others Europeans Royalties were more brave to show more interest about what happens with them...Bolsheviks would be afraid to kill them ...keep them only prisons had a chance maybe one day to give them freedom in exchange of what interest had Russia from European Powers at that time...they would afraid to not be all Europe against them....but if nobody care they killed them easy...sometimes small details without importance change destinies...
