This movie is a perfect example of how talented a writer Stephen King is. His real gems are the many short stories he wrote that are far different than the "horror" genre he is known for.
Interesting tidbit: The room they used to film that "apartment" where Brooks stayed was actually an office inside the real prison they shot at. A bit of meta-symbolism that Brooksie never made it out of prison.
Greatest movie of all time. Infinitely rewatchable. It doesn't have a complex plot, it doesn't have explosions and w.e. Yet it grabs your attention from the beginning, and lets you go at the end filled with positive emotions. It is what cinema is supposed to be. A perfect movie.

Took me years to get around to seeing Whiplash because "I'm not in the mood for a serious Drama" but it instantly became one of my all time favorites when I finally did. Now that's a worthy HT, though I'm still waiting on Buffy the Vampire Slayer's (TV show, not the film)... on one condition: they *don't* talk about "Seeing Red" a.k.a. the ep with "The Bullet".
If you ever get a chance to, visit the Mansfield Reformatory in Ohio to see the prison. They do all kinds of weird events there now but you can ( or at least could ) do a self guided tour to see where they filmed certain scenes.

Low key, when watching this movie, I just realize now that Morgan Freeman’s narration really low key makes this feel more engaging.

"Oscar worthy dramas are like a box of chocolates, they look good but you've had your fill after 2 or 3." I feel that so hard. Took me years to get around to seeing Whiplash because "I'm not in the mood for a serious Drama" but it instantly became one of my all time favorites when I finally did. Still haven't seen Parasite for the same reason...

If you ever get a chance to, visit the Mansfield Reformatory in Ohio to see the prison. They do all kinds of weird events there now but you can ( or at least could ) do a self guided tour to see where they filmed certain scenes.
I was expecting a joke about how the actor who played Byron Hadley also voices Mr. Krabs on Spongebob. It blew my mind when I found that out.
He's also one of the greatest movie villains, The Kurgan in the movie Highlander.
