It has been 30 years after all and if you take off the nostalgia filters the flaws make them kind of meh depending on the person. Disney was under enormous pressure after the awful prequels and I don't blame them for playing it safe. We can debate about how safe they should have gone but that's not my point. Anyway there were character scenes in Force Awakens that even pre-insanity George Lucas could never have pulled off, and there was plenty of new stuff.
The actual reason there is a goat in 300, along with other monsters and stuff, was because it was meant to be told by a warrior round a campfire, and to show how they used to exaggerate everything and lie for glory, the movie 300 happens in the mind of a listener, rather than actually being am accurate representation. That's why everything is so over the top in it.
Also, the historical logs of Herodot, the most referred to source when you read about ancient Greece (because it is the most complete), is considered to be exaggerated. He was more of a stories collector than an actual chronicler. So from Herodot to the graphic novel to the movie 300, basically It's like a game of telephone. But the movie actually seems know that. So the whole plot twist of one of the surviving soldiers actually telling the story of the 300 to motivate his fellow soldiers before a battle makes sense and is also a clever commentary on Herodot (who never saw a battlefield).

@@carlrood4457 How was Joaquin chewing the scenery? He wasn't melodramatic and going around screaming all of the time. It was quite an understated yet sinister performance. It may only seem 'over-the-top' to you because, by contrast, Crowe's performance was very stoical. Also, Maximus was a static character (i.e., doesn't undergo any significant change in character, personality, or perspective) whereas Commodus was dynamic (i.e., changes over the course of the story).

So, why no Kill Bill honest trailer?!
Braveheart!!!! Do Braveheart!!!
DO THE JUNGLE BOOK
+Pedro Canas You know a new Jungle Book movie came out this year. Right?
he can't make a trailer until the blu-ray come out.
+ebrahim malik WHAT do you mean "he"? Show respect and give credit to the whole team behind these vids!
Funny enough Stone Cold did a parody of Gladiator.
SuperVegitoSSJ2 actually it was before gladiator
@@ninaddhond4572 No, Stone Cold literally parodied Gladiator in 2005 leading into Wrestlemania 21.
Austin 3:16 was before gladiator
Leonard Green Jr. For reals? Have you got a link? I’d love to see that.
say the swahili sunrise chant from lion king. you know the one that goes HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SEEEE MAN YA SA WAAAA WEEEETS SAWA YA!
hey he man, my penguins in the yard-ah... hey he man, my penguins in the yard-ah...
This is a public service announcement: Hans Zimmer did not compose the music for Pirates of the Caribbean. He was a music editor and score producer. The composer was Klaus Badelt.
Hans Zimmer is credited in IMDB and was Oscar-nominated for this.
how come Sons of Anarchy has no honest trailer?
There's only so many trailers they can make in 4 years
labirinth has a honest trailer, but sons of anarchy don't. riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight
Labyrinth was to honor David Bowie.
didn't they already use that little ceaser's joke???
There's only so much originality a person can come up with
The movie industry can reuse stories, so we can reuse jokes
+Saintprick The movie industry also reuses jokes
Saintprick who is the "we" in thst comment?
That's 'Caesar' you profligate.
Say "Honey, where are my socks?" in your awesome voice
How about "Honey, where is my super suit?"
incredibles reference
I love your icon
Joe A Quinn Phone-IX had me coughing up laughs
Please do a Black Hawk Down Honest Trailer, so many stars in that movie (and it's great).
Please do The Purge Trilogy
please say: "We are on our own. We have one goal right now: let's pork"
Yes please do the Purge!
joe aquin phonix lol...
He was better in this than Russel Crow
😵😵what???
That's because all his stage directions said, "Chew up the scenery in the most disturbing way possible."
Emperor Dumbledore I hahahaha
You guys did tremendous justice and awe to my favorite movie of all time, thank you.
say : you are dead superman
g
Who is dead superman?
"Mad Maximus: Furry Rome" that killed me
Furry Rome, lol!
Little Caesar's.
Dead
I love this movieeeeee. I watched it again last night and it still gives me the chills and makes me cry at the end....
Russel Crowe. Gladiator, King Arthur, Robin Hood, Master and Commander... If you need a historical badass, you need Russel Crowe
King Arthur was Clive Owen.
To me, it's the music that is the most memorable part. Aside from his death scene and THE quote. I LOVE the music.
To this day, i still do the "wheat petting" thing with every tall grass I walk by!
I have been watching your guys channel for a while now and you guys do some awesome work. It's funny, it's great, it's spot on. Big fan of what you guys do here
Mad Maxiumus: Fury Rome. haha.
A human pokemon league :-D
The wrestling reference tho 😂😂😂
Yeah....ummm....what about it...... 'tho'?
Please say (yell) "AM I NOT MERCIFUL?!"
I'm going to be honest...I REALLY don't like this movie. It bored and annoyed me.
K then
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?
+Joe T best response
Finally! A sane voice. Overrated and boring.
Joe T I AM NOT ENTERTAINED XD
so basically this movie is a remake of The Stone Cold vs Vince McMahon rivalry.
Ironically, they had a promotional video for Wrestlemania 21 that had Stone Cold portray Gladiator.
Deathpool_04 oh yeah I forgot about that.
Darrell May Yeah, Stone Cold was the "Master of the middle finger".
why is a goat there 😂😂😂😂😂
Dumb. This was based off a comic book.
Even the commented version of the "My name is Maximus" speech gave me goosebumps. As with "Sherlock", must've really been hard to find annoying things about this one ^^.
The music part's true, though. Thumbs up for noticing, exactly my thoughts!
joaquin should have won an oscar, gladiator is a masterpiece, crowe is a legend, scott made his career of them
Pretty sure Ridley Scott did a little masterpiece called "Alien" before Gladiator!
@@staryoke And "Blade Runner" (box office failure in '82, all-time masterpiece now). And "Legend" (a modern-day cult film). And "Black Rain" (box office hit and cult film). And "Thelma & Louise" (he was nominated for an Academy Award for that one). And before he even made his first movie ("The Duellists"), he was already one of the most successful director of commercials in the world (. Only people born in the 2000s can think "Gladiator" gave him a career: you're don't even get considered for directing a movie like "Gladiator" if you're not a major player already.
Haha I still remember my mom taking us to the cinema to see Gladiator. I was a kid back then! Will always love this movie
3:03 That speech gives me chills when I hear it... Surprised The Voice Guy didn't like it
