i had no idea that the game had bombed that bad. when i watched the first 10 minutes of the librarians play through i decided i needed to play this myself, and i was absolutely shocked with the environmental story telling. it really sells itself in VR. I will never forget the boat ride that stary night with the music was not what i expected coming out of that horror water cave section, Im sad to hear that this game basically destroyed the studio. Usually the best art is overlooked, this game pops up in my mind every now and then, especially when i see it in my library. I'm waiting for that point where you kinda remembered what happened so i can play it again lol

I genuinely couldn't believe the video is 1k views, the quality rivals 1 million plus channels!!! I hope you will get the recognition you deserve!

This video needs WAY more views. I watched a game play of this game due to finding it in a short. I didn’t realize how deep this story was. And needed an explanation to fully soak in this heavy story.
This game is set up like how the book Hugo was made. With full chapters of detailed pictures with no words. And other chapters made up of words.
This entire game is the narrative. Him reliving his journey backwards, the realization that he let his greed for being the first, his lust to find the truth, his pride into thinking everything was okay and “just a little further”. He has to live with the realization that he may never be found. The guilt that he should have found a group of people to journey with him. To slowly map out the cave system safely instead of going forward at once. It’s also important to understand that when discovering new things we must proceed safely, set up ‘waypoints’ so we can back track just in case something happens. Also ensuring that equipment is always available and fully functional.

Great video man! I love the calm voice and the analysis is very well done. Also love the game.

The game I most remember from Introversion Software is, Uplink: Trust is a Weakness. I first played it on a Linux Live CD back in the early 2000s.

There is a mod called UplinkOS that refurbishes the game greatly.

I just stumbled upon your video after watching a short about this game. Thank you for making this video, as I really want to play this but can't cause I don't own a computer.

Great video! Having watched playthroughs and subsequently played through SS myself, I wish this game had gotten more of a chance to flourish. I also appreciate that you laid out the story in a pretty thorough way; I hadn't considered a diegetic way for the upgrades to have been positioned throughout the caves. Also, the soundtrack definitely carries the game and helps to set the tone in more ambiguous scenarios.
Honestly I wish that the game could have been a bit longer with perhaps a bit more story and gameplay involvement. Some puzzles or navigational challenges would have been cool to explore with the LIDAR functionality, and the cult, witches, monks, etc. feel a bit generic without any specific regional background or deduction required from the player, as the meaningful details are shared by the narrator. Luckily there are some games carrying the LIDAR tools forward, namely "The Voidness" which leans into horror, the GMod addon, and "LIDAR Exploration Program" which has yet to release.

Holy, I’m super surprised that videos of this quality are lesser known.

The beginning felt like the most lovecraftian game ever played.

It seems to me the T-posed ghost, especially when you jump down the bridge, is Ethan himself, maybe on a future loop, or perhaps in some sort of semi-aware state trying to stop himself from continuing further to what he knows will be the beginning of said loops

Honestly, I saw the game. I was intrigued, then I realized how tedious it might be. And when the little 'statue' was shown off in the demo. I knew not to play it, figuring we would have invisible chasers as we try to use LiDAR to navigate. I of course was wrong, but honestly I didn't want to even bother with it.

I think it's unfair to blame the public for the bombing of a barely promoted short walking simulator with little to no story shoved at the very end of its development. I was really expecting to get this game myself (when I found out it existed) but the demo didn't really catch me and based on what I've seen I only missed a few jumpscares and a predictable ending

Yeah i was interested in the concept expecting it to be scary and like a puzzle game i watched gameplay and its disappointing. I thought id go deeper into the cult aspect but it went nowhere.

I played the game though before watching the story breakdown. both the game and new game plus.
It was hard to follow the story even after playing it twice.
I think there was a glitch on my play-though cause there was zero audio. I'm on Linux so maybe there is something wrong with the audio detection?

Might be too much of an investment since you aren't big yet but get a better mic or something that helps because to me it feels like your voice is just a bit too low to keep me engaged throughout the video yet not asmr-ish enough to just leave in the background while I play games or whatever.

The quality of his videos is still fine. Getting better equipment is kinda obvious. If he could, he would.
Based on this video, he aims to make videos that are watched and appreciated, not to be used as asmr by some rando not paying attention.

I'm using a Shure MV7, with my post-processing kit in Tenacity, so the mic is fine. I probably just need more post-processing adjustment, though I was going for a slower, more reserved tone in this video, anyway.
