    Train yourself to be a professional. As an engineer, mixer, or mastering person you Never trash a persons song or talent. Your job is to make it as good as it can be. Dont hurt peoples feelings. Music is a very sensitive field. Everyone is an Artist, no matter what level that may be. Im sure some people hated Neil Youngs voice, or Tom Petty or whoever you think isnt as good as Adele. John Lennon would not sing in the studio unless they put slapback delay in his headphone cue. If you want to be successful treat others with respect. His vocal is typical of many indie rock, punk, or alternative singers. Being negative only reflects back onto you... and at some point people will judge you as being an inferior person to work with, not based on your talent and skill, but on your rudeness to others. Good video Mr Nevo.

      DUDE YOU ARE SO CORRECT, ITS PROFESSIONAL AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THE DEMAND IS. AN OPINION IS NOT HOW BUSINESS WORKS.

      @Hugh Jones ITS UNPROFESSIONAL IS MY POINT. NEGATIVE. OPINIONS ARE NOT BASED ON ANYTHING FACTUAL. AND NOT LISTENING PROPERLY TO MUSIC IS POPULAR. THOSE WHO LISTEN TO CLASSICAL MUSIC ARE A MINORITY BECAUSE THEY THEORETICALLY LISTEN TO MUSIC AND UNDERSTAND. BUSINESS IS LOGICAL NOT EMOTIONAL. ALOT OF GREAT MUSIC THAT WAS CONSIDERED"BAD SOUNDING" AFTER THE DEATH OF THE COMPOSER AND THE POP. CAUGHT UP LATER UNDERSTOOD IT. YOU DONT KNOW.

      @Hugh Jones it doesn't matter what you think of the song. once your paid to do a job then you have to do it to your best ability. Music is more of an art, engineering is more of a science. If you want to turn down work then that's up to you. I've been blessed to work with some of the best mastering engineers in the world and they haven't turned my worst clients down because it's not our job to be a music critic at work. But hey, you've got that much more money to spare to turn down clients, go ahead.

    Whenever you're producing or mixing professionally, and have clients to work with, you have to separate yourself emotionally from liking or disliking the song. Going down either one of those roads will distract you from your job: Take what the song or artist 'is' and bring out its best potential. Make it great.
    It's great to love an artist you're mixing or producing, but like any other job, you have to do a lot of crap you don't like. If you can do an excellent job on those projects and make them better than they are, you're going to love what you do and be excellent.
    Tough love version: No one is paying you to like songs. They pay you to make songs sound great.

    • @AudioReplica2023
      @AudioReplica2023 6 лет назад +2

      so you basically saying produce , mix whatever you get to work with... like it or not , mix it "professionally" and get the money? Thats not pro at all ...thats work for money and not because you love what u do. If I don't like a song or the artist the best thing I could do for sake of the artist work, effort and money is turn the offer down and give it away to another mixer who really would love to work with that artist without sacrificing all the money invested and effort that person put on that production. Simple as that ...if I don't like the food ..I don't eat it. Yeah thats money you loose but more than that would loose that artist who at that point is the only one believing in himself. Ive learned in this industry that honesty is more valuable than money. Money gets you gear and whatever you wanna waste it but honesty will surround you of people that will trust their work to you 100 times more than an arrogant mixing engineer who thinks have the better and most expensive gear on the block. Thats reality and have been proven.

      @@AudioReplica2023 I am a bedroom producer myself, I also have a family business in garment manufacturing and exporting overseas from home base. To give you folks an analogy, in business, i will NEVER turn down an order sheet of garments because i did not like the design. I will only turn it down if the price does not match the raw materials cost and workload per garment. Now apply this analogy to music mixing/producing and think about it again. Some jobs for money, some for passion. Its like Brad Pitt doing a bottled water commercial or Brad Pitt working in a Martin Scorsese film. One is for money and the other is for creative satisfaction. I doubt he will take your advice. Because i bet he also knows that every one is replaceable.

      perhaps true, but if he wanted to show a bad vocal, he would have used a shit recording. bad vocalist or not, the recording is fucking excellent and likely far superior to what most folks watching can achieve right out the recording room. i am not sure the musicality of a stem, particularly one in solo, is going to much affect how hard or easy the mixing process is.
