Rockabilly revivalists at the same time as New wave, post punk, ska, reggae and Brit soul. It shouldn't have worked, but it did. It truly was a great time for music. I read somewhere that these were a fantastic live band.
I saw Stray Cats in Helsinki Finland 1989. I remember Brian had a mint green suit and boots :) They played Runaway Boys, Rock. Great gig, great memories from teenage-time.
The Stray Cats took rockabilly music to a whole new level in the early 80's. They were different and had their own unique sound staying true to their musical influences without sounding like tribute artists. Stray cats were iconic and raised the bar for other acts to follow.
I considered myself a mod at the time I was 10 but bought this on 7inch single with the silver label lol, I loved it..Everyone was a mod or a rocker back then or so I thought 🫶
The best rockabilly band ever still listening to them in 2023 from 1980. Always have always will. Brian Setzer is underated as a greatest guitarist and singer. So original and a legend. Up there with Elvis Buddy Holly etc.
Saw the Stray Cats in London, December 1980. They were magnificent. If early Elvis and Gene Vincent had be reborn, this is how it would sound. Forty years has done nothing to diminish this track. Brian Seltzer, what a great guitarist!
My mam used to listen to an irish radio station , radio nova. I kept catching bits of this on the radio , and not hearing the name of the band. I was like man i love that riff. I was sat eating my tea watching top of the pops , and this came on , i was like , this is that track !!! I saw what they looked like and from then on ive loved the Stray Cats.God bless those boys
I turned 12 at the end of 1980 and remember seeing Stray Cats on TOTPs. They really weren’t my cup of tea but I did, even at that age, think they looked extraordinary. No one had tattoos or looked like them in 80. No pop band anyway. They’re still not my thing but remain impressed at the image. Superficial I know.
I was a Rockabilly in East London/Essex in the late 1970s and early 80s, during the Rock 'n' Roll revival, which swept across the United Kingdom. The Stray Cats were huge back then. I was proud to wear my collar up. Look at all the boring plebs in the background. Too much disco music has brain washed them and they have no style or swing. Haha!
Well i was defo more mod than rocker music taste wise as a teen but i had a soft spot for these guys what the hell great song brian giving billy idol a run for his money in the hair stakes.
I was a ted til the cats came along , awesome!! made the whole scene rockin again ...it pissed off the old teds an then they hated on us younguns, I was 17 and we had a fuckin ball.... and still do!
This song was so unique back in the 80’s, and it is still as unique today in 2023.
Brilliant.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I was never a teddy boy but my father was. More a rocker but boy have we lost so much. Life had so much meaning back then😂.😂😂😂
Still stands up as a killer track 41 years later !
Stand ! Killer ! Attack !

Brian setzer, an alternative guitar god
I finally sound like my parents. They don't make music like this anymore.
This was my introduction to The Stray Cats in 1980. Music was never the same again for me.

Never really appreciated how good these guys were
I suspect Setzer is kind of a virtuoso / genius actually - kind of Zappa / Hendrix - dunno

One of the best songs of the 1980s. So much more exciting and different to what the music scene was mass producing at the time.
Agree real musicians for a change

Great to have Tommy Vance doing the intro'. I couldn't stand all the other Radio 1 DJ's (for obvious reasons, I guess.).
They weren't all perverts.

Does Slim Jim actually play the bass drum? And is he left handed?
Yes he does play the bass drum and he is left handed. They are miming to this so not using the bass drum here .
I saw invisible bubble bomb around them
Просто Окей
What kind of style is that bass player using? It looks really odd. I mean the right hand.
Type in "rockabilly bass slap" and you'll see plenty of videos. The tape on his fingers is just to cover/prevent blisters
