  • Join us as we show you what you can expect at Weymouth Bay Haven Holiday Park in Dorset. We give you a tour of the caravan, the complex, let you see the facilities and activities and show you what there is to do in the surrounding area. And we give you our Honest review so you can see what is worth doing and not.
Situated in Weymouth about a 5 minutes' drive from the main beach and town you will find Weymouth Bay Haven. Not the biggest Haven site, but by no means the smallest. There is plenty of caravans and plenty to do in the surrounding area, but is it a break that we enjoyed?
Firstly, the caravan - We were staying at Epsom 20, a bronze four berth dog friendly caravan. Unlike some of the Haven budget caravans, we found this to be very spacious and clean. Ideal for people with dogs. Beds were comfortable, with parking right next to it. Towels and bits like that are not provided, so be aware that all those items are required when you visit. Having a dog, we did find that we were sited next to their dog walking area, which was a nice open expanse of green with a few small climbing activities for kids.
The one downside was that in this particular caravan, the tap in the main bathroom had a mind of it's own. Switch it on fully and water soaked the user and the floor! So that was not very impressive. But apart from that it was very nice.
Next the complex - Obviously there is an arcade as soon as you enter, with various grabbing and arcade machines. All there to prize you away from your hard-earned cash. Tickets won can then be exchanged for prizes, but do not expect to walk away with an iPad or anything of value, just buckets of slime or sweets. We found that £130 gave us a return of a lot of Haribo's, some pencils, a book and a cuddly toy - So not a great exchange!
There is the Live Lounge, where the main entertainment takes place and we enjoyed this the first night, but it is very small. And was totally crammed by 7pm. On the second night we tried to go in at 7:30pm, but there was no room. This was the week before the Easter holidays, so how on earth it copes in peak season, we do not know.
For Food - There is a Papa Johns, a Fish and Chip van, The Mash and Barrel and an onsite shop. We tried getting a Papa Johns, but there was a long wait, the Fish and chip shop only took cash! As we did not have enough, we never tried that either. NOTE: There are two fish and Chip shops right outside the park, one of which we tried, it was a lot cheaper, the food was spot on, and they took card...
The Mash and Barrel - This is hit and miss, pending which Haven you go to. In Weymouth Bay the food may have looked like a dog's dinner, but was very tasty and reasonably priced. So that got a tick from us. Worth noting it does have good deals on throughout the week so worth checking out a couple of times if you are staying for longer periods. They are also advertising that they will be getting a Burger King, so hopefully when it is busier, you can always get something to eat.
Activities - This is what Haven does best. Weymouth Bay being no exception. It has indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Our kids loved it as the outdoor section was a narrow channel with a current that swept you around. The indoor one is quite basic, but it was warm and pleasant. No Slides or flumes though..
Then you have Adventure Village, filled with inflatables, The Big Jump, Go-carts, Archery, Segways etc etc. All of these activities do have to be booked in advance and cost between £10 and £25 pending the activity. Case of kids loving it your wallet not..
Location - This is what was the winner for this Haven Site. Weymouth is a beautiful town, has lots of great shops, a stunning Town Central Beach, which very fine sand. You also have a fair at the end, the Helter Skelter donkey rides, all winners in kids eyes.
You also have Bowleaze Cove and the World-Famous Durdle Door all within a 20-minute drive from the site, so plenty to do and see.
Overall, though, did we find Weymouth Bay to be the best Haven and one that we would visit again?
These are our final review scores.
    Caravan - 7/10
    Activities - 8/10
    Location - 8/10
Food - 7/10 (Mash and Barrel)
Complex - 4/10 - The fact that we could not see the entertainment on two of our three nights, let it down for us. So unfortunately, this will be the one reason we would probably not go there again in the near future...

You find at all these big holiday parks that you have to get in early for a seat. Those with young kids go early and leave early!

Great review 👍 considering 4 nights here in a couple of weeks time with a 2yo. Would you say theres plenty to do for that age?

  • @tracyhutchinson4929

Surely driving to get a takeaway took a lot longer than just waiting half hour for a pizza?
