      I loved the magic system being really strangely specific forms of magic 😂 It really forces the author to think creatively about the way they use magic in battle 🙌

    Witch Hat Atelier quickly became my favorite manga ever, it deals with so many artists struggles (inspiration, plagiarism, artblock...) and societal issues, I cannot recommend it enough! ♥ (And Shirahama has the prettiest artstyle AAAH)
    Thank you for sharing your recommandations with us! The art of prophecy is really intriguing, I'll check it out soon! ♥

    I was surprised and happy that Lackey was included!
    Since you focus more on fantasy, I would recommend checking out Bujold's "World of the Five Gods" aka "Chalion" series, either the older novels ("Curse of Chalion" and "Paladin of Souls", and the not quite a sequel "Hallowed Hunt") or the newer series of novellas, "Penric and Desdemona".
    It won a Hugo for best series in 2018 (and her SF series the Vorkosigan Saga won the same award in 2017) but despite that neither series seems to get talked about much in Booktube.

    A huge YES to Cinda Williams Chima - she never gets enough love. Her 7 Realms series is SO, SO underrated. If you ever want me to get you a signed copy of one of her books I see her a few times a year; I'd be glad to hook you up as a thank you from an appreciative subscriber 💜 I also see the Knight Owl author here and there so same goes for that one.

    Sabriel by Garth Nix. I know it's "old" but I love it. I've read it 3 times in the last 3 years (since I first read it) and it's just kind of cozy/dark fantasy (and is shelved YA). I know it may not be to everyone's taste, but I recommend it to everyone anyway. I was actually reminded strongly of it while reading Sorcery of Thorns. You can read Sabriel as a standalone even though there are more books in the series. They follow other characters at different times (future/past).

    I listened to A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking a couple of months ago. I discovered T. Kingfisher last year also. I love it when a story is focused on a small seemingly useless power and the magic user does a deep dive into all the uses of that power and they end up being more useful that the strong power blasting types.

    If you have not grown up with Mercedes Lackey you have missed out. They have one of the most ahead of its time inclusive writing styles. Most of the Valdemar books that the Arrows are part of are always broken into trilogies so its not endless reading to get to a conclusion. I can not speak more highly about another author that I have met. There are also urban fantasy she wrote before it was really a genre that are fun as well. Diana Tregard and the Serreted edge series. Hope you all enjoy them if you give them a chance

    • @make_it_aesthetic
      @make_it_aesthetic Год назад

      I personally found her stories to be pretty problematic as they completely disregard consent. Once you're chosen as a Herald, you either have to comply with the compulsion, of this horse-like creature that you are now essentially soul-bound to, whose feelings and mind you now share...or you both die. And you die if one or the other dies, which isn't as unlikely as one would think or hope, considering that the country throws you into wars, that you are again, conscripted into without much if any input from you. Even as a child, as heavily romanticized as it is, I still found it creepy. So if anything, I was dismayed that she recommended Lackey.

    T. Kingfisher has become a favorite author for me. I fell in love with Swordheart which plunged me into the world of the White Rat, so I have since read all of the books in that series and am anxiously waiting for the next installment. Have you ever read or watched D.Gray-man? It's probably the best manga and anime I have had the pleasure to watch and I haven't seen anything like it! I think that the manga was published around 2003 and the art style changes a lot throughout the manga, the anime too. Season one has 103 episodes and season two(D.Gray-man Hallow) has somewhere around 13 episodes with the second season being up to date with the latest manga chapters. It has this Halloweeny vibe going on and you might start sobbing on a few occasions. Resently I have been rereading the manga and I have been struck one too many times with the realization that these characters feel way too real. Oh and also you must definitely watch to episode 93 or read to chapter 170-something because believe me you will be slammed with realization that you know absolutely nothing about the characters or what the heck is going on! Oh and new volumes come rarely so if you see that chapters updates come once every four months and nothing comes sooner don't be surprised. But all in all the slow updates are worth it for this masterpiece and I swear Katsura Hoshino(the creator) is a genius!
