Several novels, Gone With The Wind, Rebecca, and Jane Eyre feature young women who are so innocent in the beginning. Through the course of events in the novel they mature to become grown women. I like this trope. Their innocence in the beginning is what makes them attractive and the readers root for them. You should see the movie version of Rebecca with Joan Fontaine as the new Mrs. DeWinter with Laurence Olivier as Max. And the creepy Mrs. Danvers. Now you have to read My Cousin Rachel.
You have reviewed this book so perfectly, thank you. A few people have recommended My Cousin Rachael, I would too but also her short stories are very good and always suspenseful ,great to listen to as well. Happy reading
OH MY GOD ITS HAPPENING AND YOU LOVED IT!! I also didn't see the twist coming, i felt so silly 😂 YES TO MORE DU MAURIER! "My Cousin Rachel" is really good but I felt like it was a fever dream for me, and "Frenchman's Creek" I also loved coz I like a main character that can be selfish and also PIRATES. Her short story collections are solid IMO, "The Birds: Short Stories" has some amazingly creepy writing in it. i also recommend getting them in the same edition you have Rebecca in coz they all look beautiful especially together on a shelf LOL
I loved that book! The ending completely made up for the slower beginning. The tension really builds with all of the questions that you ask yourself, especially because the narrator is a naive young woman caught up in a messy history.
I was very happy to see this vlog show up in my notifications!!! Rebecca is one of my all time favorite books. It's the number one book I would love to read for the first time again. It was delightful living vicariously through your first time reader experience!
I am soooo happy for you that you loved it! And thank you for the vlog. I read Rebecca a few years ago and watching you talk about it brought me back to when I read it. I had SO MANY THOUGHTS then and you echoed them perfectly. I could have written an essay on Rebecca! It became an instant favourite, and it still up there.
Im so glad you’ve enjoyed Rebecca! Oh to read it again for the first time! It’s one of my top favorite classics. I even bought a special edition for my little home library. Also those candles sound really nice.
I clicked on this so fast. I knew you would love Rebecca as we seem to have very similar reading tastes. I still have to watch the film but I plan to. Good luck with your exams!
Rebecca is so good.. One of my favourite books. I love how this was wrote.. Rebecca has such an influence over all of the character's even after she was gone.. She was so horrible to Maxim.. which we find out in Maxims confession to his wife. Du Maurier's twists and turns are wonderful.. It's my perfect story.. It's a slow suspese gothic story. The main character ( the narrator) was an orphan, her parents both died close to each other from influenza.. which is why Maxim asks her to go with him. ✨
Rebecca is on my TBR list. However, I basically know the story because of the wonderful old Hitchcock film with Joan Fontaine and Lawrence Olivier. Now that you’ve read the book, you should see the movie!!
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol. I'm so glad you loved it. I too, put if off for a long time but I finally read it a few years ago and adored it. I went on to read several more of her books afterwards and enjoyed them all. My other favorites of hers are My Cousin Rachel, Jamaica Inn, and Frenchmen's Creek (that one is a fun one ! )
It is said that the book is sort of a Jane Eyre retelling. And I can see that too. Glad you loved it and that it didn't disappoint. If you loved the book, also check out the Alfred Hitchcock adaptation. It is old and in black & white, but still good and very creepy. Oh, and if you like this one, maybe My Cousin Rachel is the one to pick up next. I've only read 3 by her, and I'm afraid you've read the best. But My Cousin Rachel was good too.
Yay I'm glad you loved it! 🎉 I first read this when I was 12 yrs old believe it or not but I was one of those kids that really enjoyed Gothic classics like Rebecca , Jane Eyre & Dracula! Would love to know if you do read more Daphne DuMaurier , I haven't read too much from her but would love to!
So glad you’re reading this and enjoying it! I loved it too! I concur with many others here that My Cousin Rachel is a great read. I loved that one even more than Rebecca! (I also really enjoyed Jamaica Inn, but not as much as MCR.)
Very deep, detailed and very interesting analysis of the book, thank you! I'm reading two books by Daphne Du Maurier: The Scapegoat and Rule Britannia. And... I would also like to thank you for this informative and interesting video, because it really is, everything about it is beautiful: your image, the book review, the unpacking of the candles. Moreover, I think I even smelled them... But, to be honest, I really want to share what happened in our city of Sumy last week. I understand that you do not need this, but still I think that people should know what is happening practically in Europe in the 21st century. Last Sunday evening, the Russian occupiers hit a residential area with a ballistic missile. 12 civilians were killed, including 2 children. 89 people were injured, including 11 children. Children's fingers were torn off, some had their arms torn off. On Friday morning, the Russian army attacked residential buildings with Shahed-type drones loaded with shrapnel. As a result, two civilians were killed and 12 were injured. As I have written before, we are living in terror, but we are not giving up. Your video allows me not only to immerse myself in the analysis of the book, but also to feel a normal human reaction. Thank you so much for the video and for the wonderful image you create!
One of my favourite books, i am happy to hear you loved it! I've read it when i was in highschool, and being mandatory, i started with aversion towards it. But afterwards i couldn't stop thinking about it. Of course is not perfect but it does something to the mind 🙃. Another book i loved was The House on the Strand - and i also loved a few of the adaptations for the radio ((BBC). Perfect for darker evenings! Hope that all is good with your work and school. Like always, have a wonderful week! ♥♥♥
Oooh, those candles! 😍 Could you tell me if the 2 you've unboxed are heavy on the vanilla? They sound yummy, but I can't stand vanilla-dominant scents. And what about Writers Desk, have you tried that yet?
Okay I’m glad I listened to the spoilers, because I would’ve hated it if I had actually read it😂 That’s my least favorite thing in books when someone is ‘provoked’ to murder someone because they cheated or whatever and they are seen as a good person even though they killed someone
I just started reading Rebecca a couple of weeks ago and I’m loving it so far. Excited to see how you like it! Edit: I might have to stop watching the video and come back to it when I finish the book to avoid spoilers, but I’ll be back!
You do have to concentrate on a Daphne Du Maurier book as the writing is quite intense but it is so atmospheric - she creates atmosphere really well which is why I think Rebecca is so popular, but for me the storyline isn’t as engaging as some of her other books - Jamaica Inn is my favourite so far, followed by My Cousin Rachael
I tried this book and for some reason it didn’t grab me. My sister LOVED it and spoke of it often. Glad to hear your feeling on it as it very much was the same as my sisters😊
Personally, I found Rebecca very boring. Nothing much happens and I was reluctant to ready Cousin Rachel by the same author. What a surprise! That book was so much more intriguing. Highly recommend!
Jamaica Inn is definitely not the place to start with du Maurier so I can understand your hesitation. Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel are far superior. Definitely read My Cousin Rachel next. 😊
So, Rebecca was very controversial because Du Maurier was accused of having plagiarized the plot from not just one but two authors. Some people say she was cleared, but actually, the courts just declined to try the case. I'd be interested in you reading the other stories and hearing what you think about the claims.
Rebecca is one of my favorite books. So glad you enjoyed it too! And I would recommend My cousin Rachel as your next Du Maurier.
Oooh yes, I’ve heard about that one 😍
The Hitchcock version of the movie is still the best one (Joan Fontaine plays the main character) - highly recommend!!!
I love love love this damn book!

Agree with My Cousin Rachel next…

Omg you’re describing Mrs Danvers and I LOLd. You truly need to see the Hitchcock version of this on film. You’ll love it. 😀💙
One of the all time GREAT books. Definite favorite.
I loved this style of video where you delve into just one book. Rebecca is one of my favorite books! I really enjoyed The Glassblowers by Du Maurier.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it 🥰🖤
I loved that book! The ending completely made up for the slower beginning. The tension really builds with all of the questions that you ask yourself, especially because the narrator is a naive young woman caught up in a messy history.
I'm so glad you read it!!!! It's one of the few classics I've read more than once. Love it so much!
I’ve also been putting off reading Rebecca. You’ve motivated me to tackle it sooner rather than later 😊 Good luck in exams.

We just read this for our book club. I really enjoyed your review and totally agree with your perspective.
One of my favorite books❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good luck with the exams. Glad you enjoyed Rebecca. After your nice book report, it's time I read it too. 📖🕯️

I have Rebecca. I can't wait to read it when I get to my classics someday lol. ☕📚🍷👻🦇
Great review of Rebecca. I need to do a reread of Rebecca or at least find a movie of it. (I also liked Wuthering Heights.😊)

Frenchman's Creek and My Cousin Rachel.
She finally did it! 🎉😂

Does the candle place ship to the USA?
Yes! 🥰🖤
Hi! 🤩
Hi! 🥰
I had a copy of this book for 20 yrs and tried to read it several times. I eventually just listened to the audio book. It was just too long winded.
That’s fair 🖤
I read it this month and i just can't bear stupid, brainless woman with 0 development. I gave it 2 stars, just because i reserve 1 star for dnfs
Hi Alice
I am glad that you enjoyed the book. I have yet to read it.
Take care & Happy Readjng
❤️🤗🔰❤️
Thank you! 🥰🖤
