The feature directorial debut of Josh Margolin, THELMA is a poignant action-comedy that gives veteran Oscar® nominee June Squibb (NEBRASKA) her first leading role and features the final performance of trailblazing actor Richard Roundtree (SHAFT). Squibb, who did most of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus’ Fred Hechinger) and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend (Roundtree) and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her. Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, Nicole Byer, and Malcolm McDowell also star.
Inspired by a real-life experience of Margolin’s own grandmother, THELMA puts a clever spin on movies like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, shining the spotlight on an elderly grandmother as an unlikely action hero. With infectious humor, Margolin employs the familiar tropes of the action genre in hilarious, age-appropriate ways to tackle aging with agency. In the first leading film role of her 70-year career, Squibb portrays the strong-willed Thelma with grit and determination, demonstrating that she is more than capable of taking care of business - despite what her daughter Gail (Posey), son-in-law Alan (Gregg), or grandson Danny might believe.
Starring June Squibb, Fred Hechinger, Richard Roundtree, Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, Nicole Byer, Malcolm McDowell
Directed by Josh Margolin

She is 94 and playing the lead in a film, amazing!
I just wish old actors could get roles that weren't always about "being old". Yes, June Squibb is 94, but why does her character and storyline and everything have to be about "old age", when there is so much potential to do something unique. Whenever you see a great actor getting a role in their 70-90s, it is ALWAYS about breaking out of the retirement home or its about moving on after the spouse is gone, etc...
@@laurencewhite4809 Old actors DO get roles that aren't all about being old. Anthony Hopkins played Thor's father at the age of 74 and Patrick Stewart played the lead in the X men franchise well into his 70s. Morgan Freeman's acting career has been very busy after he turned 70 and few of the roles he played were about being old. Al Pacino, Michael Caine, Helen Mirren - all had roles in their 70s that weren't stereotypical old person characters,
@@laurencewhite4809 Yes, I see what you mean. When it is a film set in "the real world," that is usually the sort of thing people her age are dealing with. It would be interesting to see her as a politician, or if it were a fantasy story she could play a sage or something.
@@laurencewhite4809 that's true, actually but it's still a good film.
We need more golden girls-esque movies & television
Richard Roundtrees last film, glad he got to go out having what appears to have been a fun picture.
I said the same thing as I was watching it 😢
I saw it last night and he’s so charming. Great performances by Richard and June
Is his performance in the film Academy award worthy cause I think if there’s anyone that deserves an Oscar it’s him.
This actually looks awesome. Thank you for casting senior main characters and writing exciting scripts for them.
I know right. This is the best trailer I have seen thus far.
When you get Shaft to help you get justice, you know it's serious.
Shaft (shaft!) He's a bad motherf . . .
@@warrenleezy shut yo mouth!
😂😂😂
I was only talking about John Shaft@@pchan0368
I was looking for that comment.
Even at the end, Richard Roundtree looked good. RIP
I work in a Senior community and can't wait to put this on in our little movie theater! They will love it :)
Sheldon Cooper’s Meemaw, Shaft, and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson? I’m IN !
Rest In Peace to the late, great Richard Roundtree!
You missed the best of all, Parker "Queen of the Indies" Posey.
@PapagenoMF Oh, you’re right! Thanks for reminding me!
This post is embarrassing. Take a shower.
this movie looks funny!! My Granny , “my great grandmother” lived to be 95 & passed in 2012 when I was 22! She was my best friend and her name was Thelma. Love you granny! 💝
I saw this through virtual Sundance Film Festival this year, and it was pretty much my favorite film of the festival. This film is hilarious on SO many levels, hope it does well!
I remembered my late dad had this pulled on him. Only problem was my nephew was 6 months old. Dad went along with it including this phrase i cant believe you are only 6 months old and already talk and going to jail. Never heard back from them again.
Similar. Got a call telling it was the police and my daughter was in a car accident in another state. I don’t have kids. It through them enough that the supposed cop said are you sure🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kids these days are getting smarter and smarter. It’s the iPad generation. But I have to ask… what did a 6 month old do to get thrown in jail?!
“My mother is at large” that’s hilarious 😂
This made me cry missing my grandma. She was so funny and beautiful and she would totally have been up for Themla's shenanigans. What a role for June Squibb.
RIP The Legend Shaft Richard Roundtree
R.I.P uncle Richard Roundtree 🙏🏾
JUNE SQUIBB being a badass going after scammers. Mark Rober would be so happy to see this.
We were lucky enough to see this film at a special screening in Prescott AZ last night. It is AMAZING! When it comes to your local independent cinema or Cineplex, RUN DON'T WALK TO SEE THIS!
She's so adorable, I love her already.
June Squibb is a ✨delight✨ and this looks hysterical. Can't wait!
Posey-heads are so back
I just saw this movie at the Seattle International Film Festival. It was so hilarious and sweet. While it touches on aging, it doesn't get depressing and shows just how much a 90-something is capable of! I also had the pleasure of meeting June Squibb and she is an absolute treasure. I highly recommend seeing this film, it's so worth it!
My grandma hasn't been to the movies since before Covid, but maybe this will get her to go. Looks hilarious!
Wow! First Ellen Burstyn in “Mother, Couch”, and now June Squibb in “Thelma”! We are doubly blessed this year!!!❤❤❤
This looks like a lot of fun, June Squibb is great in everything.
She’s 123 years old & still making movies. That’s insane

I am going to see this DAY 1. This looks funny, heartwarming and so refreshing.
This looks great! I'd love to see Richard Roundtree get a posthumous Academy Award. It would be well deserved.
I can't wait to see this. It nearly took me out when Thelma said she was stopping to get a gun! 😂 She's not fucking around. Lol
Lol. This looks great. You got Phil Coulson teaming up with Shaft and a Mrs. Smith.
This made me smile.
SOMEONE CONTACT KITBOGA!! we need a viewing party!!!!

It's Meemaw!
Thank you for showing regular old folks! We all headed there one day, and we want to go out swinging!
RIP Richard Roundtree.
🤣 Love the cast. Let's hope Statham shows up to help out at the end
You don’t understand how epic that would be though lol actually I guess you do lol 😂
Please god no. He's so overrated.
Can’t wait to see this! Would have been such a fun movie to go see with my mom, but she passed away from stage 4 breast cancer in September of last year. 😢 I know she would have loved to see it with me, so I will go see it in her memory.
Someone steals her money and John Shaft helps her get it back. I’d watch it.
Moral of the story: Don't mess with old people.
I do not remember the last time I was this excited to see a film. Boy, what a fantastic trailer!!!
I was lucky to attend a preview of this movie. It is awesome! June Squibb is absolutely wonderful and the always amazing Richard Roundtree is, well, amazing. Parker Posey and Clark Gregg are good as well. Highly recommend!

I'm looking forward to the movie. She reminds me a lot of my grandmother who passed away.
Im stopping this trailer half-way through, because this just landed on my "must watch" list. 😮😊
I caught this at the Alexander Valley Film Festival aka AVFilm and had an absolute BLAST! It's a very sweet, funny comedy about a 90 year old grandmother going on an action adventure thrill ride in the most realistic way possible. It's a delight and can't recommend it enough.
Holy crap! I'm so excited for this, I don't remember who the lady name is but I'm so happy she is playing a lead role! she's always been a treat in various films
“How hard can [using a gun] be? Idiots use them all the time.” I love it already
OMG... She's hilarious. I can't wait to see this.
I clicked on this thinking it was going to be a new documentary on Thelma Schoomaker.
love her so much
I love these kind of Movies❤ Love it when Seniors take control. I miss my mom and grandma.
This is going to get us all on the feels. Mr. Roundtrees last picture
I can’t wait to see this! It looks awesome.
This is evidently tapping into the elderxploitation genre so hot right now in the wake of the Beekeeper.
I'm going to see this movie off the strength of my Granny. Her name was Thelma ❤
I love June Squibb. She was phenomenal in Nebraska
This looks amazing!
This looks like the kind of movie I've missed a lot. ❤
Iconique.
Anyone else smiled all the way through the Trailer 😊😊
Table 19 another June Squibb gem. I can't wait to see this one.
So excited for this!
I love that June Squibb is the lead.
Saw this tonight, and it's fantastic!
Can’t wait for the sequel, Louise.
this is the first time in years that I have actually wanted to see a film.
If you like this I recommend Blow the Man Down. It also had June Squibb.
That's actually on one of my lists, can't remember which streaming service, though....
It's on Prime and worth a watch. She was so hilarious in Nebraska. A movie with Bruce Dern, Will Forte, and Bob Odenkirk but Squibb gets the biggest laughs. Love it
Big Parker Posey fan, this film looks great!
Finally something that’s not a remake, reboot or based on a comic book!
Saw this at Sundance, magical film
