      duke 990r in 2018 was 14850euro (I bought it for 12.400 thankgod). So with inflation and shit it isn't really that bad of a price.

    I was shopping for a super naked back in 2017 and it was between the SDR and the S1KR... I went with the BMW because they at least included all of the hardware that was on the bike in the price.

      The 2017 s1000r had 3 packages available to purchase. Standard, sport, and premium. Very similar to the superduke and its packages. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.

    Had 2 KTM's now both brought lots of smiles but lots of issues also. A 790 duke I had for 18 months spent 5 of those months with KTM fixing various stuff under warranty. Just can't bring myself to take a chance on one again my MT09 has been faultless since new in comparison..

      I had a 1290 and it had no issues and was a complete riot to ride. Better than the two MT09s I’ve owned

      Douse it in vinegar 3 or 4 times just to get the crud loosened up, before even attempting to scrub.

    As much as I absolutely love my 890R, I fear the pricing is way off for this 😬 realistically its £13.8k with the tech pack (the 990R will no doubt be closer to £15k). Looking around today, whilst my 890R was serviced & I can get a brand new 1290R with tech pack for £13.8k or a 1290Evo for £14.5k (their new 890R was £10.8k with tech pack, £10k without). I know the 1290 will be 'outdated' when the 1390 comes out, but come on it's a hell of a deal & 4yr factory warranty too!

      It’s kinda of ironic the more speed limits go down the more power bikes get and there’s no more boring feeling than riding fast bike slow. 890 seems like a good bike for the road. I had Ducati s2r 800 in the past and I had so much fun riding it. Replaced with a brand new street triple in 2007 and what a boring bike that was in comparison. So much better and faster for sure but so much less fun (without getting into trouble)

      Absolutely.
      This comes to about 16K usd, the 990 R will be 17K+ usd. 2023 Super Duke Evo's can be purchased brand new right now for exact same price as the 990.
      This is before the 1390, after the 1390 is announced the 1290's will be FAR LESS than the 990 non-R.

      KTM originally took off by making (almost) ready to race bikes with better reliability (+ limited warranty) than modified yz/cr/rm with almost the same price.
      Now you have to pay more, have to fix the known problems before you start riding it and the "race readiness" performance has diminished by quite a lot and might be worse if you just upgrade other bikes with the amount of money you saved off from not buying ktm.
      I wonder how long is this going to last.

    Hi guys, have I understood the price correctly ? 12990 £ ? Which are nearly 15K euros 😯😯😯 So if an R version should come, it would cost around 17K euros ? Are they crazy ? I was waiting for this new Duke 990 and more specifically the R version to replace my 890 R but I think I'll go for a used SuperDuke R or the new MT09 SP. What a shame KTM.

      2023 SD Evo's are being sold right now (in my area) for the same price as the MSRP for the 990 Duke non-R.
      Wait 'till the 1390 is announced & winter hits... They will be sold brand new, with warranty, for FAR less than the 990.
      Pricing is just dumb.

    Still looks like they haven't finished the headlight, but I don't hate it as much as I first did. I love my Superduke, but I'd still go for a Street Triple or MT-09 in this weight class.

    Hopefully they redesigned the exhaust header. The 890 has issues with the thermostat housing leaking. Im guessing its due to it being about 2 inches behind the hot ass header and being made out or some sort of plastic.

    I owned two 990SD and one SDR. Those had 18L of fuel and no bullshit ride modes. Only thing I really want was the old SDR with a pillion and ABS. Maybe I'm getting old. Styling is pretty much Superduke astetics which is good.

    Wasn't too exciting about the new headlight when the camo prototype images were released, but now it started to grow on me. Certainly looks like the head of an alien, i like it :))

    In the market for a middleweight. My concern with KTM is build quality, full stop. I had a 1290 SAR that was an absolute lemon, so it soured me to the brand.
    We have ST 765 RS Moto2 editions available in the US, often at below retail. I'll likely be going that route. Cheers.

      Me too, my SDR 1290R was also a lemon, costing me approx £300 per month for the 12 months I had it. Before that I had a 990 SMT and the head bearing failed at under 3 months old without wheelies. I got annoyed with the 1290 and got a 390 Duke for the morning commute and for the 7 months I kept it, it would stall on every ride until it was up to temp. Most often in corners or on roundabouts. Such a shame…. After a 3 year break I got a 790 Duke and didn’t like it much (can’t explain it, snatchy and temperamental) so went back to the dealer who didn’t want it because he had a shop full he couldn’t get rid of at almost half price 🙈 I will not have another. Everyone needs to walk their own journey but there’s mine. Could’ve bought a top end bike at twice the money and been better off in the long run. Maybe…

    Remember when motorcycles had a cable from the grip to the engine throttle? Remember when they were scary to ride because there wasn't bubble wrap between the rider and consequences? Yeah those were interesting times. Now we pay massive amounts of money for a strong bike, pay even more to turn on electronic nannies, and even more to remove restrictions and give us the actual power. It's like you gotta pay another 1/3 the whole motorcycle price to peel back all the layers of the engine onion and see what's actually under it.
    Now manufacturers are putting traction control on 400cc bikes. WHAT KIND OF POPPYCOCK....
    Manufacturers stopped innovating many years ago, and now all the technocrats have taken over the firms.

    They did it with the 890, introducing it shortly after the 790 - not even letting it ride out some sales before pumping out the replacement. Ah well, I do love me a constant improvement.

    Looks nice buts it's hard to get excited for a new parallel twin. I just hope KTM doesn't replace the 1290 V-twin with a parallel.

    Its a shame it is not a v-twin like the old model, - i imagine there is going to be an R version of this model just like the 890 , - it should be at least 130HP to to make a real difference between the 890 and this one.

    Pricing is nuts. $16,000 USD. By the time we get a 990 Duke R it will be $17,000+ USD.
    At that price just get the previous years Super Duke, new, for the same $.
    Hell, if the 1390 gets released the 1290's will be had for LESS than the 990!

    4:16 you'd be surprised... The 890 could easily manage that whilst having fun, it's ridiculous how economic that bike is, genuinely mid 50s mpg when pushing on, 60-70mpg when just cruising about.

    I'm confused what now classifies a bike as a middleweight, the 990 is obviously a litre bike and the Street Triple is a 750 (ok 765) but surely both can't be middleweights, are we gonna have to rate them like boxers, middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight......?

    With these new anti-wheelie electronics, if you set it to the medium setting and just grab a bunch of throttle, is it going to hold that wheelie or just do a sudden drop? Asking for those of us that are wheelie handicapped lol.

      Idk about this bike. But a lot of bikes will kind of skip the wheel. It really depends on how aggressive the wheelie control is set. Some will cut power before it ever comes up, others will cut power just as it comes up giving you a sketchy feeling skipping front wheel. I'd rather nearly loop the bike grabbing a handful of throttle with no wheelie intervention than to have it skipping the damn wheel everywhere begging for a tank slapper

      @@TheAsheybabe89 I agree with the older electronics hence my question. I have a first gen 1290r and the wheelie control sucks. It abruptly cuts power and dumps the front wheel like a lead weight. With newer electronics, they have the ability to set an angle and modulate ignition and even rear brake to keep a wheelie going. Granted this may create a legal liability issue.

    Had a shot on the 890R last year and I was really impressed with it, I think this will be even better. That said I'm happy with my 1998 CBR 918 RRW. A little bit heavier (not much) steers super quick, more power slightly, smoother engine, is cheap to insure, looks great, has a decent fairing, sounds ace, and that's a 25 yr old motorcycle. I like this new KTM I really do, but I also like my CBR and it was paid for years ago. These software upgrades, you don't need them you don't.... they're selling them to you and it's money for old rope, but you feel pressurised into buying them because it affects your resale value, and that grips my sh*t a lot. That said if I was feeling flush I'd deffo take this over the 1290 though, I think it's the better bike, that's just me though, the 1290 will always sell more because willy waving is a thing.

    Been eyeing the 890R for about a year, almost getting to the point of pushing the button - but i just cant help shake the feeling it'll be a mistake; what with all the reliability/quality issues they seems to have. Maybe the 990 will crack it?

      They haven't even finished the headlight... I wouldn't expect reliability out of this "prototype looking" bike 😅(coming from a guy who painfully owned 2 duke 890R)

      990 will likely have even more reliability issues, newer bike = newer emission standards = bike dont work

      Honestly when it work it's one of the best bike for the road. I guess somehow I forgot the "when it work" part 😅 (at the dealership since September, camshaft issue)

    The price is insane.. i got my 2022 mt10 for 14.750€ . 165hp 1000cc brand new and they almost make a 990 locked all extras ktm almost same price? Insane
