At launch, i hated my pixel 8 pro, but after a few updates they fixed all the issues i had and its become my favorite
Yeah seems like it is best to buy a pixel product 3-6months after launch.
@@quellLeo8870always, they make many software improvements over time, even now they gonna improve cpu efficiency and battery drain + features to use always a good thing. the only downside is: it takes times and say no real timeline when they gonna release some features, like the announced AI zoom enhance is still missing and no confirmation if its gonna come with the next feature drop or not
What did get better hroughout all the updates? I'm thinking of buying it!
@@sanboo5228its an amazing phone. My friend has the 8 pro and it is stunning. Coming from an s23 ultra user.
How bad is the battery?
When the Pixel 8 Pro first came out, I went to a Best Buy and played with it. It froze up while taking pictures so I was like nope. I bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max and tried to adjust to it for two months til I couldn’t take it anymore and sold it on Swappa, then I decided to give the 8 Pro another chance at Best Buy lol, and it was suddenly so much better so I bought one and I’m happier with it than I’ve been with any phone in the last few years and this is coming from someone who still owns a Pixel 7 Pro, Galaxy S21 Ultra, S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 I use for work.
oh word. You notice a difference coming from the pixel 7 pro. I have the pixel 7 but hate the battery life and it feels hot. Your pixel feel hot?
@@asianstud7 the only time the 8 Pro really felt hot to me is when it was downloading my 100 plus apps during the setup. It certainly hasn't felt any hotter than my iPhone 15 Pro Max was at times. I still love the Pixel 7 Pro but it could never keep up with the battery life of the S23 Ultra. Not a problem for the 8 Pro. Improved battery life, better performance when multitasking, better display, the tweaked hardware design and Bay Blue are awesome. With the 7 Pro I felt it might not stand the test of time but the 8 Pro feels like it will.
I can testify to 1daful @Asianstud7, even still it only gets lukewarm in my experience with all of those apps downloading in the background. I'm not trying to be biased because I understand the price of a smartphone - why we watch these videos - it's about weighing the pros vs. the cons and ultimately what you, as the end user are willing to compromise on. I would say since the December update, especially having brought the GPU drivers up to date made a massive difference as I would assume those same drivers affect much more than just gaming. Pixel 8 and 8 Pro is a definite "Go" in my humble opinion, and that's coming from someone who's owned both the S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the other 2 "Titans" in the space if you will lol. ESPECIALLY now that our world is becoming more and more ingrained with AI smarts, the Pixel dare I say seems ahead of the curve in that aspect, in fact it has been for a few years now. Good luck on your decisions to whomever may be reading this. I'm sure anyone clicking on this video is technologically savvy enough to choose what's best for their use case. Cheers 🥂
I have the s22 Ultra and have yet to even worry about transferring the data I have stored. All because I feel like I'm not missing anything. The experience is so rock solid compared to Samsung that I find it hard to even touch my old baby. I have the 8pro by the way but I can see how you can choose the regular 8 over the Pro because the upgrades are really negligible. Especially the 5x telephoto when coming from the 10x that Samsung offers.
Am still using the Pixel 6 and tbh the battery sucks. And it also get hot on any litle usage😢
Never had call quality issues when using any Pixel. 6, 7 or 8 Pro.
Same here, I go back and forth between my Pixel Buds and the phone with no one complaining.
For this year I would be happy to see this channel hit 200k subs... Great content.. Now this I a review we all needed. Basic and what normal tech users need to know unlike some other who do reviews for themselves to enjoy the extra numbers and favoritism of who pay theirs bill...
I don't understand the phone quality arguments. I've have my pixel 8 pro for a week now and my wife and I were just talking about how crisp and clear the calls sound. And I have perfect coverage everywhere
How bad is the battery
@@AkronKid330 Not bad at all, if you activate adaptive battery it lasts for a loong time
Love this video! I'm enjoying mine too. Switching from iPhone to this was the best experience ever.
Pixel 3XL still The beast. it capture amazing photos🔥
I have no issues with call quality at all with my pixel 8 pro. Very good clear clarity and nobody has said anything about it being rubbish.
Hi Dayo, liked the new format of video, very detailed and I love that you go into the nitty gritty of the phone(s). I was really looking forward to you talking about the battery of the Pixel 8. Could you give us an insight into that. Much appreciated. Thanks 😇
Good video. I picked up the P8P in blue (beautiful phone). But after sitting with it for about 10 days, I returned it to go back to my S21. Just didn't like it that much and wasn't worth the cost.
THEN Holiday deals came around and I could get the Pixel 8 for around 450$ with all my deals, plus potentially 300$ in trade in for my S21 to knock it down to around 150$ out of pocket. For a brand new Pixel 8? That's a steal, I had to buy it. So hopefully Google will OK my trade in but I've been content with the P8. I'm still eye balling the S24 lineup because I really enjoy One UI, so P8 is a good backup phone in the event I get a S24. We shall see, I'm perfectly content right now with the P8 given the value in my case.
like always, nice review!
thx!

У Пиксель смарфонов 6 и выше всегда хорошая цена- качество и поэтому я перешел на сторону пиксель с самсунга. , у вас отличные видео ,удачи в продвижении канала
Considering volume buttons placement, that's funny, but i got used to that and now it's weird to use it the other way on other android phones. Especially in the reddit slide app there is a funcion to jump through comments using the volume buttons and it works so grat for that! I tried on s24 plus and its so hard to reach to volume buttons after pixel 7 lol.
The pictures from my pixel 8 pro are great, I'm happy to have it! 256gb version with free pixel watch 2❤
Still got my 4a 5g with regular updates and a great camera will do me for a couple more years absolutely luv the phone
Yeah I gave my grandmother my 4a5g and it's holding up well. When I update it for her I'm like man this feels so good in the hand.
Great review as always, good sir. I've been pretty happy with life on the iPhone side for the past year now, but I'm always lurking and curious about the latest offerings from the competition on the Android side.
Ecosystem-wise, Apple is hard to beat. But as a standalone phone, there's decent choices to pick from.
@@DayoAworunse Agreed. I'm kinda deep in the eco-system myself now with my Macbook and I even bought my parents iPhones since I personally switched.
@DayoAworunse Not true. Was with mac. Moved to Windows and Samsung and its a great job done. Even pixel with nearby share on PC's is just awesome.
I personally think Google has a really good ecosystem. My pixel buds work very well and connect automatically and so does my pixel watch 2 . Google assistant is really good....and can even take a selfie for you from a distance if the Google Assistant can hear you. And using my Chromebook connected to my Google messages I can use it same as a Mac book to iPhone
@@DayoAworunseTBF Google eco is good aswell, obviously not as good as apple eco system but getting there)
I think this is the best pixel 8/ 8 pro review
I also think you are the most honest one out there with a lot to say about the phone
nice work!
:)
The call quality is hardware related. I think they've always used different antenna or modem brands than other oems. I'll see if I can find any sources and update this with links when/if I do.
i love you for this
Thank you for this video.
Thanks for the comment
Interesting you say that about the buttons, I've had a pixel since the 2xl, I find my finger or thumg depending on which hand naturally sits on the volume button for extra grip. Not something I've thought about
I guess muscle memory from all these years using phones with a higher volume button, it feels awkward. After a couple weeks, it's not as awkward anymore
I wish I would have seen your seven pro video before I have gotten to seven pro.. yeah I should have waited for eight pro. Only had to wait 2 months but I didn't now stuck with the seven pro for a while unless I go ahead and pay it off. I got it through Verizon. I think I'm going to go ahead and pay it off and then probably get the Google 9 Pro
Love the improvements Google has made but I'll be waiting for the Pixel 9 to upgrade from my 7pro. Other than the battery life not being as great the phone still performs well.
I really wanted to get the 8 pro because of the flat display but that alone wasn't enough to upgrade a year later...so now I wait until October.
My call quality is great on my pixel 8 pro
I need your pixel 8 pro
Excellent review man I’ve had Samsungs and currently using an iPhone and was told Google is like the apple of android, would you recommend this phone or the iPhone 15 pro max? I love taking pics
Excellent review, I intend to buy one.
I have the pixel 8 pro on T-Mobile. The phone is nearly perfect. PERFECT. But I don't use it as my daily driver because for some reason the phone makes my hand feel uncomfortable. It gets warm doing little or nothing and holding the phone just makes my hand feel so weird. Don't know what it is.... Other than that there is nothing to complain about. My experience with call quality has great been great. Screen quality is the best on any phone. No more issues seeing the screen in direct sunlight. No banding when watching movies with dark scenes. The phone is nearly perfect in my opinion. Buy unfortunately the phone gets too warm for my liking and I don't even game on the thing. At least I have 7 years to see is things will change.
It’s because of the tensor chip.
Power and volume button in different place than in any other phone is what I love about Pixels, I don't understand why so many people mention it as it would be something wrong. When you grab the phone, the power button is under your thumb anyway. And I'm listening to music a lot so the fact that the button lowering the volume is so easy to find when its still in my pocket is really awesome.
Great and honest review. No hype, no bias, just facts. When you said "the Snapdragon is going to mop the floor with the Tensor chip" that did it. I decided right there that I was not going to trade in my S23 Ultra for the Pixel 8 but rather wait for the S24 Ultra. Once again thank you for being so unbiased and honest. Subscribed bro. ❤
Depends on what your looking for, raw power of course the Samsung is better, but normal day to day use and photography along with some of the useful features Pixel is better IMHO
Why are people so bothered about raw power 😂 the s23 ultra is a phone only people who love specs buy
I had the S23 Ultra, I sold it. Was just to big, unfortunately I don’t know why my carrier doesn’t support any plus phone from Samsung. So now I’m looking at the Pixel.
Nice Seiko Cocktail Time!
This is my baby
Damn! I thought it just me that noticed the less fluid screen on the Pixel 8 pro. I put on a screen protector now and it's alot better:)
I loved you in Everybody Hates Chris
LMAO WHAT
Amazing google managed to do symmetrical bezels on the pixel 5 but somehow still can't manage it on the 8 series. A small thing but do find it annoying. I am a pixel user and a fan but one thing I don't like about pixels is the amount of time the post processing on the cameras takes. I also found that the font camera processong of pixels has changed over the years for the worse, with a soft over contrasted look and eyes esepcially looking too black. And while i do love pixel cameras I have contempated importing a Vivo X100 pro as my next phone. I agree with you that as a personal preferece that pixel photos do look very appealing and accurate to me I have always loved their porcessing on the main lenses in particualar. But....I don't think we can really say they are the best any longer after you see the images coming out of a device like the Vivo x100 pro. With that monster 1 inch sensor and the Zeiss tuning options, it is certainly no longer a clear cut victory for the pixels. The x100 pro has really been the first camera phone thats images look genuinly amazing and stand out from any other phone cameras i have seen before.
wow that always on the display on the p8p 😍
I dropped my pixel 7 pro and my screen is messing up really badly. I went to do an insurance claim and learned that I'll be getting an 8 pro as a replacement unexpectedly. I'm excited!
What the heck, I'm gonna drop my 8 when the 9 releases 😂
@@DayoAworunse apparently it's because Google has stopped production of the 7 pro and they were out of stock. I also have Verizon and made the claim through asurion so that might have something to do with it.
I noticed that the face unlock barely ever works in a dimly lit or darker setting. I never had any issues with IOS in that situation
I do think the volume rocker should be higher, but the arrangement is correct. I use the volume buttons more than the power button.
I agree they should just go ahead and throw in a 3D face ID and ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Outside of that, im loving my 8pro.
When I call my family who has a pixel sounds great
I really like the P8P, Battery Life and Thermal are great if you are on WiFi. If you are on Mobile, the Phone gets hot quickly and the Battery drains so much faster.
On WiFi i get 7-8h SoT, on Mobile i get 4-5h SoT. Even when its on 4G. This makes me trade this Phone back for my S23U. If they would fix this, i would stay with the P8P.
This is a great overview, Dayo. Thanks!
Another option for nighttime face unlock is to have a light colored, preferably white lock screen which illuminates your face and works really well for the camera to recognize you.
I rather not have my eyes be strained to unlock my face at night. Just use IR or another technology to scan my face
Did you turn on clear calling in the settings?
i agree with you mostly, its just that face unlock specifically is way more annoying when you have long hair When i wake up in the morning the iPhone with face id without fail will always fail enough times in a row to force me to type in my password While fingerprint sensors work every single time I wonder if the pixel face unlock would work better for someone with long hair because its not 3D like face id
How do you feel now, that MKBHD confirmed what you said about the pixel phones cameras on his smartphone camera blind test? 👍
The timing couldn't be more perfect. I'm very happy I reviewed and said what I said about the Pixel 7a about half a year ago. It was the best Pixel experience I had and it carried over into the 8 series. Makes me feel a bit more confident in what I said about iPhone users getting a taste of the Pixel and preferring it. No matter what you say about Pixel, you can't take away the fact that when it comes to photos, the Pixel is true to life, and thats what people like.
Also, I was laughing at the Sony picture and its consistency. Still don't know how that won 2 awards in some other smartphone awards, but could have been a software thing
🎉🎉🎉
🎉🎉🎉
wait what are we celebrating?
The button thing. For me is perfect. Because I am left handed. If I were right handed I would agree with you.
I cant say all the experiences on my 8 pro have been so wonderful , at least on mine , the finger print sensor only seems to work when it it wants to 30% of the time , Face ID is not even in the same league as my iPhone 14 Pro Max which hits the mark 99.99999 % of the time even in pitch dark , the iphones Face ID also has a wider field of capture i have noticed , but to be fair i am in a less well lit environment much of the time , so that could have some bearing on the pixels Face ID performance or lack of it , i feel this is an area google could have like the galaxys have spent a few more bucks to get ultra sound FPS , as for photos , i have the iphone photo settings set to max resolution all the time , so it takes very decent pics , i wanted to really like the pixel , but i carry the iphone as my daily , the iphone gets more of the basics right imo , and the magsafe feature just is the gravy quality of life feature for me .
Even photo processing , sometimes it’s a bit of a wait on the pixel .
I tried taking some happy snaps of the stars without going to a lot of trouble , neither i found was particularly good imo ,its hard to beat a full frame camera and a big lens.
The photo editing stuff on the pixel was the draw for me , i think it takes a bit of a win in that area.
Phone of the year ? Sorry not so convinced , but thats just my experience.
Hello,
Thanks for the video.
Me not so happy with the quality of the display, the color temperature is on the warm side.
Google should have put a slider to adjust the white balance.
Are you not noticing this issue on the display?
They do. It's under display/advanced
@@Thefastlane425 there is no this option, kindly share screenshot.
I bought the 8 pro absolutely shocking display quality returned it gone back to OnePlus 11 screen 100 times better.
Had all the pixels from day1 nexus htc etc, one thing I will say is the fingerprint sensor belongs on the back. 😊
If you hold the pro with your right hand you can easily adjust the volume button with your thumb. I might just have bigger hands I guess.
i would like to see you do the nothing 2a vs the oneplus 12r
those just seem like much better value for your money
It's great but heats up very fast. I was sad I had to return mine.😢
I think it's the Tensynos 2200 G3 processor that's causing the dropped calls. I have a Galaxy phone running an Exynos chip too. My phone drops calls at least 2-3 times during a phone call.
Exynos 2200 = Google Tensor G2. , Exynos 2300= Tensor G3
I loved my Motorola but it died after five years. Got the Pixel 8 for the camera. But i miss the chop-choo gesture to turn on the flashlight and twist of the wrist to turn in the camera. Also much easier to take a screenshot with the Motorola.
Which Google Pixel is a good one? To get
How do you make the DJI mic sound so good?
Fingerprint unlock allows you to unlock without looking. it makes me chuckle when I see people paying with NFC with an iphone. They have to look at their phones like morons and then tap to pay.
I just got it 2 days ago and i notice that it’s quite laggy while scrolling especially on youtube, instagram or play store and a lot of people complain about this issue unlike the pixel 7 pro which made me confuse bcoz tensor g3 is technically better but why is it noticeably laggy??? Someone said it may be caused by the new android 14 update. But i really wanna know that will it be fixed or i’ll have to stay with it permanently. Please tell me thank you.
Nice! Can you please get rid of that table cloth? It looks bad.
I just bought the 8 pro a few weeks ago , mainly for the camera and astrophotography . And please may I have the print of Rivendell behind you , thanks so much :)
How’s your battery life been?
@@JackHackett1 Probably the wrong person to ask , I don't game or watch much on it youtube wise etc so battery is great in that respect .
It actually sounds good on the call quality. My friends can't tell it from my iPhone 14 pro Max.
My biggest concern is the cellular/wifi connectivity. With the Pixel 3 XL the wifi kept dying and would require a reboot or actually smacking the corner off it against the desk to get it working again. Weird bug right? With the pixel 5a my 5G keeps cutting out and I have to turn airplane mode off and on to get it working again. Are we still having problems with the Samsung wireless chips?
Bruh, 6yrs ago SMH
@@bigmemphismook9019 @bigmemphismook9019 It might be 6 years but im reading they still use the same samsung chips which are inferior to Qualcomm and i see various reports around connectivity issues still prevalent. BTW the pixel 5a was released August 17, 2021..... Bruh
@@bigmemphismook9019 The Pixel 5a came out at the end of 2021 so that's only about 3 years. Pixel never did start using the Qualcomm chips. I'm seeing blogs where people are reporting issues with their wireless. I'm trying to figure out if these just one off incidents or if the problem is still widespread. It seems like a fair question to ask. SMH.
Question, does the phone quality sound better if you use pixel buds/samsung buds with the pixel 8/pro?
No it's better straight off the phone. They made really good background sound isolation. I use my p8p with galaxy buds. Not sure why this guy have bad call quality, maybe the person he was talking to had bad reception.
No issues ref pixel buds and calling/ reception etc
I think yoi should start using the iPhone 15 pros for shooting your overhead videos
it's a low bar. But I'm generally enjoying it. 6 pro was genuinely my worst ever smart phone (or maybe note 4), and was a downgrade to the 4XL
My Pixel 6 was virtually the worst smartphone I've ever owned The hotness and really horrible battery life killed it.

Face ID on the iPhone X came out in 2017 not 2013. Google had a great competitor to face ID with the Pixel 4 in 2019 but people complained about the top bezel so much that Google Axed it
I always get that year mixed up. My mistake it is 2017
We'd have nearly bezel free flagships if reviewers wouldn't have complained about pop up cameras so much.
Pixel 8 pro is really good, but... Why am i not able to use features if do not live in the US
I hope Google sorts that out. If they want to do better numbers worldwide, they're going to have to enable all the things we take for granted here in the states.

Pixel 8 Pro works great as long as you don't want to connect to a car using android auto. This has been a known google since the release of the Pixel 8 Pro. As of the January 2024 software release, it has not been fixed. But Google had time to fix a wallpaper issue. Not sure who is prioritizing issue at Google.
Weird. My Pixel 8 Pro connects to Android Auto quicker and more reliably than my S21 Ultra ever did.
