8 years lasting battery, lower maintenance costs, accuracy, practicality...The logic tells quartz. But we decide with emotion. So automatic.
Hahahaha right. Thanks for watching!
Why do you think that quartz has a lower maintenance cost?
@@adriatics.3357 Just a battery every 8 years and a water resistance check. Compare the number of the parts of both type of movements. Consider this, an automatic movement needs service every four-five years instead of a quartz which needs over eight years because of less movement parts. Also quartz movement is more difficult to break down because of shock and magnetic fields.
My train of thought exactly.
I’m new into watches less than a month into getting into the history and background and my heart says automatic because glass on back show spinny spinny
Great video brother! I love comparisons like this!
Thanks man! Hopefully it helped!
Top comparison video. I love both and decided for now the quartz sunburst 😊
Nice! Can't go wrong with either!
@stevepapa Thanks for the info. Does the Gentleman powermatic 80 also have the same heart? I love these watches and am now concerned. Actually walked away from sweet deal on a PRX after watching this
I have just gone with the Powermatic 80! Have seen all your videos on this watch (and just subscribed to your channel!)
Making decisions on which model - initially a tough call but when I actually sat in the dealers with both models in my hand, like you mentioned - the sweep of the seconds hand and that waffle dial !! …just grew on me!
Tbh, First I wasn’t sure about the waffle dial, (wondered if it was trying a bit too hard to be like Royal Oak), but literally within a few minutes of looking at it, it just popped! Beautiful watch for the money!
Bro.... You watch ALL of my PRX videos and you *just* subscribed?! Better late than never I suppose hahahaha. Congrats on the pick up and thanks for subbing!
@@stevepapa cheers! And just to let you know I just watched your prx vids all back to back and subscribed in one go!! 😂
Just received a PRX Auto version today. it really a great looking watch. i think it is worth the extra £200 over the quartz. it feels heavier and just a bit more quality , even though the case is the same on both. i tried the quartz in a store and loved the look. this watch is a stop gap towards an Aqua Terra green dial... this wil be a while yet
This watch definitely punches above its weight and a good watch to get while still saving up for that Omega! Thanks for watching!
Better dial with a luxury vibe and finish
Just decided on the white quartz version. The dials appear rose gold! It’s my first Swiss watch and I’m definitely content with my purchase; it has such an elegant and classy look that would compliment most outfits
Solid choice for your first Swiss watch! Can't go wrong with the quartz either!
Does the second hand on your watch line up with the the individual indexes? That’s the only reason I’m hesitant but I want it so bad
@@anayacar000 it does on half of the watch. If it's a sticking point for you I would steer clear.
Love your choice! Enjoy!
I got the quartz PRX a week ago and was debating replacing it with the powermatic 80 so thank you for this video cause man you helped me a lot and great review my friend !!! Love your Channel - subbing
Glad I could help and thanks for the sub!
So?which did u keep ?im confused which to choose 🫠
Purchased the Powermatic version, in blue, last week directly from Tissot. I’ve had several nice comments on the watch and I’m enjoying it thoroughly. One thing I’ll mention that I wasn’t aware of is that Tissot provides a free full service of the watch should you ever need/want it. I don’t know if that’s provided only to buyers that bought directly from Tissot or not, but a full service has to be worth a decent amount of money.
I did not know that. Good tip! Thanks for watching!
I went back and forth on this which is why I waited so long to get one. This weekend I bought the quartz in blue. My main reasoning was because I’m not going to wear it everyday, I already have a Ballade COSC Powermatic 80 so the almost double price wasn’t worth it. That waffle pattern is so nice tho, and I wish the quartz had the same boarded date window. But all that said I’m happy I got the quartz.
Congratulations on the purchase! Enjoy the watch brother!
Hi how is your Ballade COSC watch? I am thinking to buy it. Probably cheapest COSC watch out there?
@@ThiHaGadgets the cheapest COSC watches have to be Mido chronometers for around $400-500
@@chrisjct2095 Not really. Cheapest is Tissot Ballade Automatic. I bought it from Jomashop for around 375 USD.
Nicely done! Thanks for the comparison!
No problemo! Thanks for watching!
Both nice watches, would definitely go with the quartz as I like the sunburst better than the waffle, so there's nothing about the auto that could justify the extra cost.
But I'm not buying either of them. Being unable to swap out the bracelet is an absolute deal breaker for me. I have a Seiko SUR307 being delivered later today, and I already have a Lizard strap waiting to go on it.
The PRX has gained a lot of popularity and 3rd party strap makers have started making straps that fit!
I went for the Powermatic 80 version. The dial just looks like a higher end watch, especially with the bordered date window. Been wearing mine for a month now, and I love it. There are two gripes I do have though:
- it really should be a 36-38mm case more befitting of the original (and better for those with sub 7" wrists)
- would really have preferred a 4hz movement and sacrifice some of the power reserve.
I always love looking at a buttery smooth sweep! Thanks for watching!
We have a winner! Sadly though swatch group put this low beat movement in most of their autos now unless you spend big for omega etc. If you’re bothered with power reserve then Best Buy the quartz version, it’s cheaper, has power reserve of 2years plus (😂), and has jerky sweep like the auto, but for much less money. As always ymmv :-)
You talk about the original and its features but yet the original was quartz.
You can get this watch in a 36mm
@@garyhost1830 yep. You couldn't 2 years ago when the video was made.
Grabbed an Auto “Gentleman” with the Blue Dial and then ordered a PRX quartz with the black dial for its cool styling and as grab & go option.
Two solid Swiss pieces that are definitely solid and inexpensive for what you getting. That Powermatic 80 runs really well for sure.
Thanks for the video !
Great watches right there! Thanks for watching!
I wonder if buying a Longines for the combined price would be better.
great vid man, thanks for the honest opinion.
Both watches are beautiful choices! I like this watch model very much. Congratulations for the video! Greetings from Brazil.
i had a look at both the black and the blue prx powermatic 80 waffle dials under a loupe. the black dial was nothing special. the blue dial had both the tapisserie waffle cuts but the raised squares had clear sunburst radial brushing on the top faces. now it’s no AP, AP doesn’t just sunburst the raised surface of the tapisserie, they also cut a pattern into the valleys. but it was surprising to see up close.
Tissot made a SOLID piece!
I'm really interested in the Powermatic 80 with the green-black waffle dial. Simply gorgeous!
Gold PVD case, green waffle dial...NOW WE'RE TALKING!
good comparison video. just asked a local Tissot dealer to order up the prx auto . checked them out in nyc over July 4th . im going with the green dial . - ? to move the date ? - use a pin at the 10 o'clock , yes ? ~ JDS/CT
Nope there's no pin. Everything is adjusted through the crown.
@@stevepapa thanks. ~ JDS/CT
Great video! 👍🏼
I recently went for the automatic version for one reason, I wanted an automatic. I've got a few quartz watches which I love but I just appreciate the automatic movement and how amazing it looks through the crystal case back. Watches are personal, it all depends on what you like. For that reason I don't understand why people say you should buy the quartz because its cheaper etc. If that's the reason buy a £100 G shock.
Definitely! Buy what you like and don't worry about what others think I wanted the quartz model because of the clean dial texture and the "pick up and go" movement. Thanks for watching!
@@stevepapa lol a 100$ g shock doesn't come with PRXs finishing and swiss ETA.
Quartz suits the PRX as that's what it was originally made with.
Cause of the price difference,buddy.
@@tuta123seb Read my comment mate 👍
I‘ve looked at the Quarz version in person, let’s just say you might have to shop around to find one with proper second hand alignment. But apart from that it‘s an attractive watch.
Yeah I've seen people remove the seconds hand entirely. I'm not a stickler for the seconds hand hitting every index perfectly but it does a decent job.
Wtf that’s weird
Many thanks for this review! Have the same in blue, too! Love the Powermatic 80! Great review... my new is to short 😂😂😇😇 have a great evening!
I buy the Quarz in blue because I like the dial more the automatic version looks to mutch like a royal oak
Yeah I do like the cleanliness of the quartz version. Thanks for watching!
Definitely the Automatic!......👍
The auto looks like a RO and the quartz looks like a Rolex 17000
@@blackhawk5950 They all look alike and this was the 70's fashion. Also don't forget Vacheron Constantin 222, so i don't get your point.
@@theodoretsambas4069 I agree 😃
I went with quartz titanium. The blue seemed more blue than purple.
Hiya Steve,, I'm a newbie to this, and I was really surprised by the length of life that the battery has. Where could It get a battery like that instead of the cheap one's that I usually have to get? Thanks very much for all great video.
It may have more to do with the quartz movement than the battery but I'm not 100% sure.
It matters what you choose! The automatic just can be repaired from tissot not just because its not that easy to get new parts as it is with ETA movements. Thats why i think its better to busy the quartz.
I think either one is going to fit in a collection nicely! Thanks for watching!
@@stevepapa did you read my comment? Its harder to repair the automatic, because of their own movement. Without using an ETA they made it neccesary to go to a tissot watch maker….which is not very costumer friendly dont u think?
@@Hawky_is_old some people wouldn't mind that if it means getting an automatic movement. For me, I'm never going to wear it enough for it to need servicing outside of the warranty period. If it was my primary watch, then I would be a little more concerned.
If not for the construction of the automatic movement used here where the whole escape system is one piece to save costs and the maintenance needed to be done by swatch group I’d have chosen it, but, quartz triumphs in this case, it’s also a new eta quartz movement so… hands down quartz between these 2. Thanks for great video!
Great points and thanks for watching!
Blue dial, I'd go with the Powermatic 80. White dial, I'd go with the quartz. Good video. Thanks.
But the white auto has that gold bezel! Thanks for watching!
Did my research and was set on getting the quartz version however when i was in the store looking at the quartz version it really bugged me how the seconds hand seemed to be not inline with the minutes on the watch. Just looked so off in person. Ended up not getting it.
That's going to be on a case by case basis. Some watches will hit the markers more accurately and consistently than others.
I was going to pick up an automatic soon, but now that they released that mint dial only in quartz, im thinking of picking that up instead. It also makes more sense at almost half the price, but for some reason it almost feels like not buying an automatic is wrong at this point.
I flip flop on this one a lot. But I'd say that if you like the mint dial, buy it! At $350-$400 it has great value and will easily retain its value if you did want to flip it for a mint automatic (if that gets released)!
I want both but cant afford either , but really nice video thank you.
Keep saving and look for a good deal! Thanks for watching!
Decisions, decisions. I want this to be my daily watch for summer since I wanted the light blue variant and usually wear light colors during the summer. I ended up going with the quartz since I was able to find the color I wanted, new, for about $100 below retail 😅
That's a steal! Nice pick up!
Felt immediately in love with the ice blue quartz 35mm , if they could released the same dial with the powermatic, I would buy the automatic . Ice blue quartz is the Best looking PRX to me
Nice! It's always great to feel that connection with your watch!
I 100 percent agree
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
at first i was all set on the quartz with silver dial.... but the inner impulse still wants that automatic... yeeesh...
It's tough with that pvd rose gold bezel too!
The powermatic 80 looks superb with that blue waffle dial. I own a few blue dial watches, globemaster, tag carera, longenes, etc . I’m trying to convince the wife that I need this watch, that’s the issue I have I’m afraid.
Just buy it and surprise her! It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission!
Purchased the PRX Powermatic 80 with the leather band for USD $550.00 plus tax. Excellent watch, good quality. Personally it would be nice if it is was just a little larger dial.
Congrats on the purchase! I need to try it on a rubber strap!
They also come in a grey dial
Hi. Powermatic 80 dosent have the regulator on it.
How do you know the battery of the qwuartz last 5-8 years? I can’t find it anywhere on the internet. Everyone says qwuarz batterys last 1-3 years.
Found it
I was gonna say it's either on the website or it's specific to the movement.
Got the Quartz Blue dial for 295$ today auto one was 620$. I liked the dial of quartz more and there is a huge price difference between them. I wont wear it often probably 1-2 days per month only. Paying 620$ for a watch is hard asp when basic salary in your country is only 330$ :) if i were in Usa or in Europe i would buy both auto and quartz with different colors.
Yeah if you're going to only wear it a couple of times a month I would say the quartz too
There is no country with $330 monthly salary bro, you must be refering to weekly salary.
@@BrateTebra123you need to get better information, in my country thats the minimum wage
I bought a closeout Tissot PR100 quartz. COSC certified to quartz standards and cheaper than the Powermatic 80 version that looks superficially identical apart from the words on the dial. I’ve spent too much time wearing Citizen solar radio-sync watches (wore the same one for nearly ten years and it still works just as well) and I’m spoiled.
Citizen Skyhawk was on my wrist for years so I feel the same!
man, the only thing i care the most is to have the most blue out of it, i mean, that even at low light keeps looking blue instead of a blackish dial, in that case scenario which one would you choose?
Yeah the dials are a bit too dark but I prefer the quartz dial overall I think
@@stevepapa thank you! I'll go quartz then
I bought the quartz in gold and it’s magnificent!! I have the tissot seastar2000 automatic for every day so I decide the quartz for prx because I will not wear it every day. Tissot its perfect
Nice! I'm glad you like it!
I like the movement on the automatic
Every watch collector need one or two quartz watch. Since I already own many auto models, it made all the sense for me to pick up quartz version of PRX. I also own a Citizen Tsuyose which satisfies my "auto urges" :). So, it basicly comes down to what you have or don't have. If I only had one watch... I would go with Powermatic.
A radio controlled quartz should be in everyone's collection! Exact time keeping on the fly!
Just picked up a mint (still has the stickers) quartz version for $260. Probably the best bargain ever. Either choice is a lot of watch for the price point. I might end up with the auto as well, but I went with the quartz for now for a no-fuss grab-and-go watch that looks excellent.
that is a SOLID deal!
@Harry Balls Doubtful as I got it from a trusted source, but doesn't matter as due to short attention span I've already moved on from it.😉
Your 7.5 inch wrist is the perfect size for this watch. My thinner wrist needs a smaller watch after seeing this. Great content and beautiful watch though:)
Thank you! Yeah I think I lucked out when it came to wrist size with this one!
@@stevepapais that maxed out? I’m between 7.5 and 8. Will it fit nice?
Wait so you can manually wind (and charge) the movement just by turning the dial??? I AM SOLD
Ha! *inserts **_that_** Alex Jones GIF*
Got the quartz version for about $305. 😊 very nice comparison between the two versions by the way! 👍
I've got another quartz one on the way...
@@stevepapa nice! I'm guessing its a smaller diameter or a different color dial? 😁
@@butcht6309 it's the 40mm PVD gold version
@@stevepapa nice! Will wait for your review on it then. 👌🏻
I think this PRX is the best looking watch and best deal released in MANY years, for real. Its a new icon.
This is the first swiss watch in years for me, that really got me excited.
With that said, the only thing I would have liked to change with it, its the polished bezel, I would liked for it to have been brushed too like the rest of the watch :P
But this is nitpicking.
Yeah they definitely hit it out of the park! I like the contrast between the polished bezel and the brushed case. Adds a bit of flair without going over the top. But in this world of watch collecting we all have our own opinions! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@stevepapa No problemo :)
Is the automatic version required service every 3 to 4 years?
I'm not 100% sure what the suggested service interval is but I wouldn't send it in that frequently unless I wear it every day.
Powermatic version will also have a 10 year life span, then you will have to send it to Tissot to swap the movement and once they stop producing it, 10 years after that, it won't be serviceable. But you might be able to have someone put in another movement, or so I heard. If they made a sweeping seconds hand in quarts I'd choose that one but this way probably powermatic, I'll decide finally once I try it on. With little luck in two or 3 weeks time.
I like your reasoning!
I’ve had mine for 9 years now and wear it everyday! I absolutely love this watch although mine is different looking than these?! It’s a powermatic 80 but I have the day and time in my dial and has the skeleton back. And doesn’t have the squareness coming off the face leading to the bands
So it’s not this watch then… 😂
@@ShonSnow93 no shit, I said it looked different.
Last few days, i was about to buy that auto but then no go as the size is u know quite small
I think the size fits me perfectly! Try it on and see!
Are you a vintage video game consoles collector? N64 and Gameboy color seen in background.
I'm not necessarily a collector, these just happen to be mine from my childhood that I never got rid of. But I am a gamer!
Do you think the 40mm is to big for a 6.5 inch wrist
Possibly. I like the 40mm but I have a 7.5 inch wrist.
I'd get the quartz model in this instance. More true to the original and less fuss!
I ended up sticking with the automatic and I gave the quartz to a buddy of mine. Still torn on which one is better!
I decided that I will be saving up for the green Prx for my 50th birthday next year.
Nice! I haven't seen the green in person yet, but if it's anything like the blue it'll be great! Good choice!
I also ordered the green dial prx, how do you find it? I also like the powermatic with the blue dial but just a bit expensive for me at the moment
@@chapsjohn7435 I haven't seen it in person yet but it should be nice!
I received my green Prx a couple of days ago and I love it! The dial is lovely, especially outside in the sun. I didn't need to adjust the bracelet (I prefer to wear my watches quite loose anyway) and the bracelet is fantastic. I will enjoy wearing this for years to come. It's very close in looks to my dad's 1970s Roamer Rockshell Mark IV, which is what got me into watches in the first place.
@@alexkane5608 yeah I got mine aswell a few days ago, I love it 👌
Hey Steve. Since your wrist is at 7.5 inches what size did your bracelet and how do you determine a perfect fit? Do you order exactly 7.5? Thanks.
I think I took out 1 link and it fit pretty good. Still a little loose but better than tight.
For me its easy choice because the dial on the automatic is so much nicer looking waffle 😍🙏
Boom! Done and done!
Why is the quartz "looked down upon"? I think I'm going for the quartz. Also going to mention this will be my first real watch.
I wouldn't worry about the whole "looked down upon" thing. Buy watches you like and enjoy first and foremost. A lot of enthusiasts and collectors prefer a mechanical movement because the watchmaking that goes into it. I've never been one to care much about "the soul" of a watch.
I chose the PRX Quartz and the PRX Chrono. Both in blue.
Ooooooooo nice!
Is Tissot planning to market a 35mm version of this watch?
That's the rumor!
I need some quick advice… I recently purchased this exact same PRX Powermatic 80. This morning, I picked the watch up out of my watch box and wound it 30 times. However, I forgot to check if it was still running on its 80 hour power reserve cycle. To my surprise, it was indeed still running and on the current date and time. Will my winding it 30 times damage the watch? Please advise thank you. 🙏🏻
Overwinding on an modern automatic watch isn't a concern so no worries there!
The original watch was released during the height of the Quartz Crisis, for me quartz is the only way to go.
Still o mention of accuracy, why why why?
I think im going to buy a black auto next week. first "expensive" watch for me but i just love the dial too much.
also the swiss flex that i can just walk into any city and buy it there at a tissot store :P
Hahaha nice flex!
I wish that they make the 35mm automatic with the quartz dial
Yeah I agree. The quartz dial is clean! Maybe that's why I prefer it!
@@stevepapa i also wished that they make a 38mm
I have the Gentleman in green, automatic only for me.
I'm going to review the Gentleman soon enough. Excited to see it in the flesh!
The green is amazing i bought mine a month ago. Its keeping +1s per day
Spend your money on the auto version. The quartz is OK but its a 20 dollar movement which I guarantee will not have a second hand which aligns with the batons. Get the Powermatic. The best you can do with most of these quartz versions is remove the second hand - something which is becoming popular.
Yeah I've seen a couple of people remove the seconds hand. Looks clean!
Good choice.
I feel like I made the right choice hahaha
The dial on the automatic is better looking imho...
This might be one of the only watches were I prefer the quartz Version :P
Man it's so close in my book. Quartz is definitely a great option!
According to a watch maker a battery for Tissot quartz watches lasts up to 3 years! 8 years would be really amazing but I own a lot of quartz watches and I usually have to have the battery changed every year for 2 to 3 quartz watches! In average the battery lasts about 2 years! 😇
I think it depends on the type of battery they use but I've hard quartz watches that have lasted 8+ years so far!
The thing that puts me off the powermatic is service costs of £150-£200 every 3/4 years on a watch thats only £600
I'd probably never get it serviced if I'm being honest. I don't think I'd wear it enough to justify a service.
i need quartz with waffle dial:) no more inexpensive automatic inaccuracy for me;) don't get me wrong rolex GMT pepsi is more then welcome: too :D :)
ooooo now we're talking!
Powermatic has a Plastic heart. Whats that all about ?
torn between the gentleman or prx..first
I do like the Gentleman a lot. Definitely more versatile IMO.
It's more look like an oyster quartz than a royal oak, Imho.
Oh yeah I can definitely see that!
I love the automatic dial but I like more the quartz movement and the quartz price, smh
There has to be a mod out there!
@@stevepapa thanks I would look into that rn
🔥🔥🔥
💯
Not such a difficult call for me. It'd be the auto, and not because of "anti-quartz snobbery", but:
1. The dial is way more interesting
2. Sweeping seconds-hand vs a ticking one
3. The auto is still pretty damn thin for what it is and only a fraction of a mm thicker than the quartz.
The bigger question for me is whether or not this type of case/bracelet will look goofy on my puny 17cm/6.75in wrist. I've already checked out both versions ... but only through my local shop's window. I guess the only real test will be to put it on my wrist.
I had a tough decision with the dial. I love the clean look of the quartz just as much as the hatch pattern of the auto. Go in and try it on! I think you'll enjoy it!
the thing is, the white quartz dial looks the best… soo that is maybe …. the final reason
The white dial is CRISP!
Automatic any time❤️
But the dial on the quartz is so nice!
@@stevepapa
Automatic is the craftsmanship to boast for.
The dial has some character. Personal choice but I don't like battery operated mechanism
I'd rather just use my phone than buy a quartz
Powermatic 80 is a no-go for me. Too many reports of issues for my liking. Quartz it would be. All that "alive on my wrist" crap means nothing when that heart can't decide to beat consistently.
Luckily I didn't have an issue with mine! Can't go wrong with quartz!
Wow looked super small on your wrist. I love the Quartz blue dial.
I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing hahahahaha. 7.5" wrist!
If price isn't factored in everybody would choose the Powermatic 80. The only reason the quartz is in the conversation is because of that price point.
I wouldn't say the only reason but cost is a big one!
PRX quartz
PRX auto link isn’t any good . It’s the white dial and that’s not even available
Yeah they must have sold out then. They'll restock them eventually. Thanks for the heads up!
I bought both... I'm so weak;)
Hahahahaha I feel your pain
the auto dial design sucks. I bought the quartz movement yesterday.
I understand the issue with the dial. Some are going to like it, some are going to hate it. Good pick up with the quartz tho
Lume
Quartz
I do like the dial on the quartz more!
Who on earth would go with a quartz. The ticking instead of floating second hand would drive me nuts.
I hear this a lot but it doesn't bother me at all. Some of my favorite pieces are quartz! Thanks for watching!
i like the quartz one second tick
Automatic
I ordered another quartz... Whoopsie!
Excellent video. I think I go with the quartz.
Turns out I'm selling my quartz..... Hahahaha
Watches are already obsolete. If you're getting a watch, just go full on obsolete, the proper mechanical way. If you lean towards quartz...just get a fucking smartwatch already, or a DW shitter.
I couldn't disagree with more. Not going to even touch the DW thing because thay doesn't even make sense $350 for the PRX vs $250 for the DW, I'd take the PRX every time. Smart watches are played out too. I hate the look of most of them and I don't feel like being an NPC with 0 personal expression aside from the wallpaper on the lock screen.
i swear everytime i hear someone say Yema it makes me think of some garbage AliExpress watch lol
Hahaha Yema makes solid watches!
