My Pickled Magnolia Recipe
I absolutely love this tree, its almost invisible each year until it burst into bloom between March and April - and what a treat these little flowers are slightly spiced with hints of ginger they have health benefits and medicinal properties such as reliving a stuffy nose, runny nose, common cold, sinus pain, hay fever, headache, and facial dark spots
Whats not to love.
RECIPE
100g Water
50g White Wine Vinegar
5g Salt
5g Sugar
- bring to the boil
-pour over the prepared petals
let me know if you try this and what you eat them with.

Hi does this recipe also work for southern magnolia?
Its hard to find alot on specific species but i have an abundant amount of magnolia trees on my land
One more question a bit silly i guess but what do you know about the seeds? theres not much evidence to support anything exept "generally this or that" but i like to hear others experience beforehand
wonderful recipe and mesmerizing video... would so much love to see more recipes using Magnolia leaves
Urban foraging

Lovely! 💖🙏🧚🏽♀️☀️
What a fab idea! The magnolia trees I’ve seen here are in people’s yards-would ask first to pick the blossoms & offer a portion of the finished product... Could be a nice way to meet the neighbors!
That’s such a good idea! They really are very delicious- even raw from the tree, they have an incredible crunch almost like chicory!
Mines more yellow then your purple
@@nicktran939 the colour depends on which type of magnolia you have used, they are all so different which is what makes them amazing! I love the pink ones visually but the white ones I find have more gingery flavour notes!
how long can you keep them for? does it go off within 24 h or can it last for a while?
It lasts a while as there is a high concentration of acidity!
What kind of vinegar do you use ?
Is this a specific type of vinegar to use? X
I use rice wine vinegar
Hi Il ove this tree happy with the recepy but my leaves turn brown in the vinagar. What went wrong?
👍🏼👍🏼💖💖💖
Super je vais le faire
What a brilliant idea. Will try tomorrow
Pleased you liked it! Let me know how you get on!
Yes fantastic idea
Do you have a rough estimate of how many grams of magnolia petals are needed for this amount of pickle liquor? Thanks!
Around 50g
We have a tulip magnolia we have already enjoyed some tea and want to dry leaves since the blooms are unpredictable with the odd weather we've been enduring past few years 😉
Tips on drying them for tea and other use (edible)
Maybe you could make an oil - or checkout my other recipe for a rhubarb and magnolia spritz - drying I would use a dehydrator or set the oven on around 40°c
@@londonchef excellent that's 104 degrees Fahrenheit for us 🤓
Hi! I have a yellow lantern magnolia, is that safe?
If it is a true magnolia yes! All magnolias are edible!
Tried this and did not like it. Not enough sugar in my opinion.
Can we use rose petals?
The recipe would work with rose petals - but magnolia are very tender - rose would be a little tougher, perhaps cook them in the pickle to tenderise them?
