If anyone can confirm a vehicle this will work on please let me know and I'll update the description! 🙂

Hey man. Doing the same research for my legacy. I got a 2014 WRX STI wheel and got a 08 LGT clockspring from the junkyard. And all of this is going into my 05 LGT. I'm trying to get the phone/Bluetooth controls to work but that actually goes to the main 14 pin harness connector, not that 4 pin connector that you kept referring to the phone controls. That 4 pin connector is actually for the steering angle sensor that's attached to the rear of the clock spring and can be separated. Your legacy doesn't need it so you can actually just delete the connector. I'll comment below if I get the Bluetooth controls to work somehow.

I noticed the same thing before i read through all the comments. keep us posted! my understanding is the standard steering wheel controls work by applying different levels of resistance to the SWC wire, maybe something similar could be done to the phone controls. I am also in the process of doing this mod, but I am also swapping an 08-09 steering column into my 05

@@jieiku oh, I got the Bluetooth steering wheel controls working. Pretty simple but it all relies on if you have a SWC adapter or if it's integrated into your aftermarket head unit. Haven't tested on a stock headunit.

@@inkdude18 I am going aftermarket stereo, so does it run through the same steering wheel control wire or was it some of the other wires? did you keep notes on what wire was what? if so please share, thanks! What is your setup like, did you use SWC adapter or did your headunit support it, what adapter / stereo are you using?

@@jieiku What radio are you using? I used a Sony XAV-AX150 which had SWC input that I used so I didn't have to use a converter.

Did u make a video when u put it in the new wheel on the Impreza?

I did not, wasn't on RUclips when I installed it. However, I never wired it up, only had the airbag and horn working. But i believe everything in this video should be the same for the impreza

What kind of radio is that? I’ve got mine hooked up to the factory radio and only 2 of the buttons work on the radio side.

The black plug at 8:11 to my understanding leads to the steering angle sensor which piggybacks to the back of the roll connector, I do not believe it has anything to do with the phone controls. If you look at 23:06 where you say its just the gold philips screws, the silver screws are what hold the steering angle sensor to the back of the roll connector, and that angle sensor can actually be removed and set aside if your vehicle does not originally have VDC (traction control)

Yes, I believe you are correct. I think someone else mentioned it in the comments awhile ago. At the time of recording i wasn't 100% sure and was assuming since I had everything else wired in. Looking into the phone controls again when I decide on what to do with my headunit. Thanks for the clarification!

@@zach_lush the phone controls are one of the wires in the 14 pin plug, and the audio controls are 2 of the wires in the 14 pin plug (one of which is a ground) i will be wiring all this up soon, will make sure to get a stereo that has support for 2 remote inputs.

@@jieiku ah i see, thanks for sharing! I think my issue will be the headunit i currently have. Let me know if you make some solid progress!

    • @jieiku

@@zach_lush I made a bunch of progress on this, your headunit should support it fine, the reason it does not is because you used the silver controls. If you use the black controls at 2:53 that originally came with your phone controls then it will work, the blue/white wire that you thought was for mode is actually for the phone controls, but the phone controls will not work unless you use the black buttons they originally came with. AHHH I just skipped to the end and that is what you did, no idea why your phone controls are not working then, they should be. If I figure anything else out I will be sure to share, I literally just wired a lot of this up. It is possible it is the head unit after all.

@@jieiku i appreciate you sharing what you have found out! I aswell am still stumped as to why its not working. I do believe its the headunit. Im hoping this summer i can upgrade it and see if that will fix it! Thanks!

Hi, I'd love to add steering wheel controls to my Mazda. It hasn't got voice assistant dedicated button, and I wonder if aftermarket stereo can be mapped with a combination of pressing of existing buttons like double press or long press or if I can swap steering command/ whole wheel with more buttons on and get it working?

    • @zach_lush
      @zach_lush  Месяц назад

I'm not familiar with mazda, but assuming you buy a head unit that can accept inputs I cant see it being a problem. I know I've seen heasunits that replace a bunch of plastic trim and fits a 9" screen in there. Definitely worth looking into

@@zach_lush I think I have the same steering wheel, but with few different things. head unit accept input but I don't know if there's a way to set combination input? Which would be the easiest way of getting it working

I've ordered a complete set of steering wheel with full button and a clockspring. But the clockspring only have 1 connector for the airbag. Is there any way that I can mod the connector?
