True. The shifter knob makes all the difference. Especially if you change the shaft too. It's amazing to see Marty and Moog finally modding an STI. I bought a white 2015 one just like this in 2014 and have modded EVERYTHING, including a forged motor.
I just bought my 93 civic ex its my first car and I'm definitely about to wreck it. you guys are my hero's, thank you so much for the simplicity and straight forward content.
This is amazing. So much great information for all the guys that are now starting to get into the car community! My personal go-tos would include a [d]ownpipe for decreasing wasted power, increased sound and preserving engine lifespan on modern vehicles but other than that your list was absolutely amazing and inspirational. My little tip on top would be: take your time when building a car; rather go step by step and fully appreciate all the little details the parts add instead of just installing everything all at once and also: if possible include friends and prusue that awesome journey together.
+1 for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. I have them on my M5 and they are grippy and predictable and still work really well in the wet. They also last surprisingly well for a performance oriented tyre.
@@arcanevoid9199 I've had about 10,000 miles out of my last two sets. Bearing in mind I have to be careful in first, second and third not to spin the rears up, it's surprising that the fronts don't last much longer than the rears. I'd say that's pretty good mileage for a performance tyre.
@@arcanevoid9199 the Michelins also seem to have much less road noise than similar performance-level tires. That is what justified the cost for me when I got PSS for my 2005 STI. That thing has hardly any sound deadening, so the reduction in road noise compared to stuff like Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric or Hankook RS-3 for example, was _very_ noticeable, despite having similar dry grip and slightly better wet grip.
even though I know nothing about car mods and have no experience what so ever working on cars, you guys have inspired me to mod my 2015 Kia Sportage and have a bit of fun with it 😂
A large amount of seriously modified cars are registered out of state at this point. Live in socal and its looking like a good move for me and my wrexie...
First time viewers watching this like "why do they keep showing close-ups of their feet?" We don't know either, my friend, we have just stopped questioning it
I haven’t watch these guys in a few years and they are getting older, which is a good thing. Nice to see them still at it, but it’s a completely different show now.
Coilovers, never just springs. Change the spring rate and you'll need to change the damping, or you'll wind up with an underdamped suspension, causing bounce.
Well designed lowering springs, like Whitelines, account for this very well. Unless spending you're A LOT, quality springs will be more comfortable and reliable than coils most the time. Coils are generally spec'd for track/"high performance", not what you want on a daily.
I'd only put coilovers on a street car if there isn't a realistic alternative. For instance, I have an SF Forester and in my opinion the proper way to lower an SF or SG is to use coilovers.
3:05 - You guys actually want to get an impact wrench*, dont make the rookie mistake of ordering an impact driver for removing stubborn wheel nuts and the like
@@PheonixRise666 Drivers are usually made for driving in screws and the like, they transfer their torque through a 1/4-inch hex collet that accepts 1/4-inch hex shank bits. Impact wrenches typically use a square drive (at least 3/8in, usually 1/2 in) that you attach a socket to...impact wrenches usually have more torque unless theyre like extremely compact models, whereas those tiny 1/4in hex collets used with drivers usually fail in high torque applications (think of all that torque being transfered through a longer thinner piece of metal) and also require adapters to attach a socket to, but are absolutely fine for light duty applications
It's worth mentioning that Subaru uses a MAF system and they use hypereutectic pistons with a very high silicon level meaning the pistons are strong but susceptible to fracturing more than other options. Installing an intake with no tune can cause the car to run lean inducing knock which because of the high silicon count can mean the shockwave can shatter your ring lands. Always tune your Subaru for your mods. Never use bolt ons without a tune
@@standforcanada4967 honestly, I would tune the ECU even on a stock car (assuming you don't have any engine modification plans yet; otherwise do as soon as the mods go on). The sensitive pistons in the EJ205, 255, and 257 plus the fact that the OEM Subaru tunes aren't that great for OEM "across the board" (at least the GD generations and early 08+, not sure about later).
I almost cried watching Moog pick up his Subby :) You are awesome guys! I have no idea for how many years I have been watching your banging videos! Wish you all the best!
I'm looking at buying a 2015. This video perfectly describes what I want to do! The only concern is I have seen lots of people saying you NEED a tune for exhaust and intake and to not just add engine mods as that can be damaging. Update 1/05/2024: WRX 2016 bought 😊 tune for intake, yes, tune for exhaust, no. Haven't modded or tuned yet but do your due diligence! Flash/OTS tunes seem like a no go, but that's my personal orientation.
Just installed the Q300 exhaust on my 2020 STI last weekend. This is the PERFECT exhaust! Nice rumble but you can still talk to passengers while on the highway,
Seriously have to jump in here and get my, “ Hey Ryobi” to read this!, these tools such as ratchets and grinders that have the battery at 90 degrees to the skin, needs alterations, I’d like to see them in a side mount or angled as the battery in some cases stands out taller than the socket or grinding disc’s and makes it hard to get then close to the work
As someone who drives an STI, I find it absolutely criminal that you didn't get a short shifter and bushings. STI has plenty of slop in the gear shift.
I’ve not had an STI but have had a Liberty GT and a Forester XT and first mods for me are group N engine and gearbox mounts, trans bushings and short shifter. 100% better. I can’t believe how terrible it is from factory.

It's amazing to see Marty and Moog finally modding an STI. I bought a white 2015 one just like this in 2014 and have modded EVERYTHING, including a forged motor.
15:55 is that a foot pushing the start button lmao
2:04 ive heard STIs can be kept in check with good rubbers
Hope you guys are well over in Sydney :) so excited to see the sti transform!
Moogs so loyal he even has Ryobi Brakes. xD
You guys are killing it! The growth is unreal and well deserved!
+1 for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. I have them on my M5 and they are grippy and predictable and still work really well in the wet. They also last surprisingly well for a performance oriented tyre.
how long do they last?
@@arcanevoid9199 I've had about 10,000 miles out of my last two sets. Bearing in mind I have to be careful in first, second and third not to spin the rears up, it's surprising that the fronts don't last much longer than the rears. I'd say that's pretty good mileage for a performance tyre.
@@joshuarosen6242 ok thanks :)
@@jsquared1013 already have a set lol, just wish they made more sizes in r16
Some kind of meta: getting a Whiteline ad as Marty is talking about this car's Whiteline sway bars.
Same! i thought it was a weird start to the video until i seen the yellow bar
Lmao same
This is the most mods I've seen applied to a RUclipsr's car in one video. This would've been a 17 part series on Rudnik's channel lol.
Man, that is awesome having a spring compressor. Love these full upgrade episodes.
the whiteline alk kit and bumpsteer lot are a great addition especially for a lowered subaru to correct the roll center
even though I know nothing about car mods and have no experience what so ever working on cars, you guys have inspired me to mod my 2015 Kia Sportage and have a bit of fun with it 😂
I love how California is legendary with there shifty emissions even in Australia across the world lmfao
A large amount of seriously modified cars are registered out of state at this point. Live in socal and its looking like a good move for me and my wrexie...
*THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS CHEMICALS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER*
Its kind of flattering. Everyone around the world knows us.
I have friends who got state reffed for muffler deletes. Fuck california
Nothing is worse than Germany when it comes to automobile modification restrictions!
First time viewers watching this like "why do they keep showing close-ups of their feet?"
We don't know either, my friend, we have just stopped questioning it
Im loving the rate of these uploads, RAKE LOVES IT
I haven’t watch these guys in a few years and they are getting older, which is a good thing. Nice to see them still at it, but it’s a completely different show now.
Nice.. I agree with WRECK IT 100%! My current car checks every letter on it.
I put lowering springs in my GTI and didn't run into that problem.
I'd only put coilovers on a street car if there isn't a realistic alternative. For instance, I have an SF Forester and in my opinion the proper way to lower an SF or SG is to use coilovers.
3:05 - You guys actually want to get an impact wrench*, dont make the rookie mistake of ordering an impact driver for removing stubborn wheel nuts and the like
What's the issue with a driver?
I think I made that mistake but worked out fine with the socket attachment, granted I just did 2 front shocks
Even a cat back or axle back?
@@standforcanada4967 honestly, I would tune the ECU even on a stock car (assuming you don't have any engine modification plans yet; otherwise do as soon as the mods go on). The sensitive pistons in the EJ205, 255, and 257 plus the fact that the OEM Subaru tunes aren't that great for OEM "across the board" (at least the GD generations and early 08+, not sure about later).
I almost cried watching Moog pick up his Subby :)
You are awesome guys!
I love how the mods are done on a new car with no “issues” in the way 😂
Love that exhaust sound what an improvement. A lot of simple bolt on mods which can make a difference and make the car stand out from the crowd.
God damn you never know when Mr. Foot attacks xD
crazy i havent watched yall since i was in high school and yall are still badass now.
Just installed the Q300 exhaust on my 2020 STI last weekend. This is the PERFECT exhaust! Nice rumble but you can still talk to passengers while on the highway,
Seriously have to jump in here and get my, “ Hey Ryobi” to read this!, these tools such as ratchets and grinders that have the battery at 90 degrees to the skin, needs alterations, I’d like to see them in a side mount or angled as the battery in some cases stands out taller than the socket or grinding disc’s and makes it hard to get then close to the work
Just gonna say that I really like how the clap matches the end of the intro music lmao
15:56 I had to rewind a couple times there 😂😂
Just got my WRX, first mod I did was the crosstrek blower motor cover. Silenced that cricket chirping sound whenever the heater/AC is on.
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen about how to modify a car, thanks.
I would recommend a high flow cat. It's a definite bottleneck and needs to be addressed especially with a turbocharged car.
When are y'all gonna build a rotary or a Volvo?
Drift wagonnnnnn with a redblock 👍
@@chrisdwyer1477 I'm more partial to whiteblocks.
Why not both? Rotary Volvo wagon
Introducing the Rolvo.
@@johnforster5312 i was gonne write LOLVO, (because LOL i did) but that's for the Lightning powered version aka electric Volvo.
@@pieflies 💯
If I’m not wrong, can’t you have the short shifter installed from factory if you order it?
Looks fantastic, these STis have such a special place in my heart😂
Great video😁
Bro using the feet for starting the car and jacking it up got to me haha great stuff!
