    Proper mods for a proper daily driver:
    1: Normal tires with some sidewall.
    2: Maintain it properly.
    3: UV blocking tint that's as light as possible.
    4: LED bulbs as the halogen bulbs burn out.

    I usually just go with wider aftermarket wheels and buy 10 or 20 mm wider tires with the same aspect ratio as OEM. It fills the wheelgap, gives more traction (wider tires) and more comfort (fatter tire).

    • @MSportsEngineering
      @MSportsEngineering 4 года назад +9

      All very good reasons. One downside is the turn-in response will be lower with wider tires, especially those that add tire "past" the rim edge.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 4 года назад +7

      Wider tires actually telepath more noise to the car. Low profile rubber is harsh, less shock absorbing. There is this happy zone where the rubber is not too short, not too tall, not too mushy, not too stiff. Even in outright track times, too low has a negative effect just like too high. Giant wheels with rubber band rubber is nothing but a style exercise, and OEMs seem to be continually going that direction.
      I do prefer a bit more width, a bit more poke to the outside, but a very conservative aspect ratio with an emphasis on comfort.

    • @aclockworkmolten-orange7330
      @aclockworkmolten-orange7330 4 года назад +4

      Indeed, mine came in OEM size of 205/40R17 on 17x7 wheels, I changed then for 215/40 and they look like I lower it as they fill the gap of the wheel, doesn't look stretched over the wheel and those few extra mm of sidewall makes the crapy roads feel less harsh.

    My beloved first car is rusting out sadly and is unibody frame. So I am going to have to hand weld a new frame onto it section by section. So because I am literally rebuilding my daily, I thought I'd mention some!
    1st - battery cut off switch - $15-$50
    Allows cutting your battery in heavy winter storms to help preserve it's life and makes electrical maintenance easier. Also you don't have to worry anymore about keeping that loose wire from touching anything - it's still bolted down when disconnected!
    2nd - EZ Oil Drain Valve - $20 - $50
    Literally a godsend invention - no tool needed! Just lift the handle, and turn it! I would recommend opening the fill plug first though. Makes oil change maintenance 100X easier and also removes any stripping issues that might arise
    3rd - Same mod as last, but find the size of your trans fluid drain plug. - Same price too!
    Like really, they are missing out on that marketing method!!!
    Bonus - at least a 1 pump hydraulic set up. A bit pricier and more something you buy the parts for over time, then do the conversion while driving your nice car daily for a little bit - maybe a week.
    You could park it, lift it, and change the fluids without ANYTHING... It's the easiest car to maintain ever!

    When I purchased my Lexus IS (F-Sport) last year, it had NiCHE M116 Misano 19" Wheels on them which looked really good. The car was driven in Virginia for a few years, until I bought it and brought it to NYC. I had the car 36 hours in the city and ripped the tire in a pothole. Using it as a daily driver (and autocross/track), but putting daily mileage on it, IN POTHOLE CENTRAL, I had to switch to OEM 17" wheels and I have to worry a little less about ripping tires, although that happens as well. But overall, it's a wall thickness that lets me drive (sporty) and gets me faster from one assignment to another.
    I had to chose pragmatism over beauty, although my DD setup is still looking sharp.

    I have a little 5 door Ford Fiesta Titanium 2019 with 100 Hp. First things I did was visual mods: changed the front grill to a black one, did some wrapping to remove other chrome parts and add a unique touch to my car. Then I decided to change the wheels: went for 17 inches, so only 1 size above the standard 16 inches. The 16 inches wheels will be for the winter period. Then I got to work on performance: installed a boxed K&N filter to help engine breath better, did a custom ECU tune to get +45 HP and +70 NM of torque, installed a sports exhaust which has sound without making me deaf or annoying my neighbors. And last step will be lowering springs. And that's it. With all of this it's a perfect daily car but with enough mods to make it unique to you own tastes.

Got new slotted disc brakes with ceramic pads. H&R lowering springs. Changed interior lights to LED. Replaced OEM filter with K&M filter. Still have a full stereo in my closet that I havent installed yet and will be getting an exhaust when this craziness is all over. Simple changes but enough to make it not so stock.

    I don't know if I'd consider them mods, but for my daily E39 I refreshed all the suspension bushings and joints with new OEM parts, good condition Bilstein struts from junkyard ($20 each), and slapped some nice quiet touring Pirelli's on the stock wheels with a slightly taller sidewall than stock for dat comfort.
    Highly recommend sticking with a stock intake for a daily. Replacing paper filters every 12k miles for $7 each time is way nicer than cleaning and re-oiling a cotton gauze filter that doesn't filter nearly as many fine particles as a paper one. Also using a high quality full synthetic oil and best oil filter (usually OEM) is a given.

    4)Aftermarket/Computer Android Auto/Apple Carplay ( best thing ever)

    For my daily right now I’m using BC coils with 235/45R/17 setup. It gives me more of a meaty look for my S60R. She’s auto so that’s why I’m not doing a lot of performance mods. The only “engine” mods I wanna do left is a top end rebuild with new turbo setup. Goal is 375whp which is perfect imo. Honestly daily’s should always stay reliable. If you want a 500WHP car for a daily you’re better off breaking the bank for a loan or build a street car. Throw historic tag on her and have a blast

That's the difference between your car being tuned for the sweet spot between power and reliability and the guy stranded on the side of the road with a kill tune and a new window in the engine block.

    Alex, I have a different approach to cars. When I was young I think I'd join the fast car fam but my parents gave me a van and I started surfing and I absolutely fell in love with the practical aspect of "ugly" cars and I never looked back. I think daily driver cars could be cool if they were made to look good and be ultra functionable. I've seen 3rd gen Priuses on bags - and they do look cool imo. Why not? They're comfy, great on gas, and you can fit a dead horse in there - if you had to (not saying anybody should do it). I bought a 2012 Prius for a travel car conversion - there is no better hatch option for that imo (and the cargo space is awesome). And I think my travel project car (ie MINI Van Life gift from Gods) will be outstanding - my own Millenium Falcon, the man's Car Cave. It will have a kitchen, running water with a 5 gal tank, storage for surfobards, 110V current, I can run AC or heat non stop due to the Hybrid design thus having a "hotel room" in any weather condition for 1 gallon of gas a night (it hasn't earned its Prius Hotel name for nothing: ask Prius owners).
    If you guys run out of things to talk about, you can talk about my "mundane" project (when it's done) and show to the world a different approach to pimping your car.

    I got into a mild accident in my daily, an 06 Corolla. Smoked headlight housings were the same price as regular ones, so I bought those as replacements for the ones that shattered, tinted the windows, and removed the rust on my steelies and painted them black. It's still a Corolla underneath, and it's got nothing on my project car, but just these few cheap cosmetic mods make it so much more appealing to drive, even if it isn't all that different. Plus it makes it a million times easier to spot in a parking lot compared to all the other blue Corollas out there!

    I've got an 02 bugeye wrx wagon that had seven previous owners. One of them installed struts from a Forester but didn't supplement them with any subframe spacers and as a result, I was going through front axles like crazy. Since I've bought it, I've purchased coilovers for a Forester and lowered the car back down quite a bit, but it's still taller than stock. The other thing they did was throw on some 17" wheels from an 05 Outback. They fill out the wheel wells nicely with 225/50R17 tires. I acquired an OEM set of wheels that I threw some snow tires on that my friend gave me. The wheels are 16", but the snow tires have a sidewall ratio of 60, so they also fill out the wheel wells quite well. The car still performs awesome both in the summer and winter and is comfortable, but she no longer destroys half shafts every year or two, and she still has a ground clearance advantage over stock. She's a good daily car, and I'll be sad to see her go when the nearly 200k original (I think) motor finally goes.

    If you intend on daily driving a RWD car and you have rainy and muddy wet seasons and/or icy and snowy winter, a Torsen LSD might be a worthwhile upgrade if it didn't come with one stock. No, it's not a cheap upgrade, but it's cheaper than getting a winter car. Other than that, seat covers that you can throw in the washer is always a good idea on fabric seats.

Then rear sway bar to help mitigate the fact I'm trying to take any corner in a boat, tune because diesels get better fuel economy, and actually a smaller wheel (20" down to a 19") to add some sidewall and help improve the ride, which is already pretty good, but could be better.

    I’m in a tough spot, my Golf R has only a couple mods and it’s fun to drive. But I can just FEEL it wants more.
    Our family car is a Prius V (it’s more of an appliance than a car) and it has the 2 car seats, stroller, etc. I’m the only one who drives my car (the R) and it’s light use around town. I want to mod my car more but I don’t want it to lose value or be uncomfortable since I don’t track it. But I want to have a blast on those rare days I can get away and enjoy the car.
    Current mods: IE cold air intake, turbo inlet pipe. CTS resonator delete. 034 dogbone mount insert. Stock wheels (19” Pretoria) and tires.

    As a normal everyday working guy I can only afford one car, so that is both my daily and my "project" if you can call it that :P But the stuff in this video kind of applies, I'm not gonna slam it, just a moderate lowering. I went with a nice plasti dip on my stock 17" wheels instead of paying 2 grand for a new setup, and put those doll hairs towards a tune, cold air intake, lowering springs and stuff instead, seems more reasonable since the stock wheels don't really look too bad.
    Anyhow, great videos, nice and informative as usual. Peace!

    Coilovers are a massive pain. These you can do at home in less than 2 hours with (probably) no special tools:
    1. Cold Air Intake
    2. Exhaust/Muffler
    3. Sway Bars and Links
    4. Strut Tower Brace
    5. Big Brake Calipers/Rotors
    6. Pitch Stop
    7. Select Urethane Bushings
    I highly recommend just upgrading as parts go bad. Need a filter? Get an Intake upgrade. Bushings wearing out? Get urethane. Need rotors? Get a big brake kit.

Mainly suspension refresh and suspension and subframe aluminum bushings from ECS Euro and KermaTDI, cv axles, cold air intake, tires and a stage 2 tune that gives me nearly 40% more hp and nearly 70% more torque with a remap and flash tune from Malone Tuning. All for about the same price I got the car for which was way under market value anyways because I fixed a misdiagnosed transmission issue ;) considering getting some wheel spacers and a hood stack if I end up needing to do any work on my fitment or exhaust system as well. I plan on making it like a reliable German baby peterbuilt lol the motors great turbo is in good condition and the frame is so clean so I've got another decade with this thing given they don't ban diesels...
