"Nicholson arrived after the movie had already started."
LIKE A BAWS
I remember the Batmania in 1989 so well things were so awesome back then
You are one lucky bastard. The 80s were badass
I was born in 1988 my dad went to see that Batman movie with my grand mother when she was alive they both loved it and I saw it on vhs 📼 when I was 2 years old and I loved it
I was 8 during the Summer of 1989, but remember Batmania well.
Skull10 I was 4 and I too remember Batmania. 1989 was a awesome year
Me too...each year a new movie came out, it resurfaced a bit, but the only year that came close and maybe surpassed it was in 2008.
TDK did not compare to the 89 hype.
Me too! 8 years.
I was 3 months old. But I remember Batmania well.
I was 12 when this came out. We had gone to visit relatives in Southern California and to go to Disneyland. We went and saw this the night before we went, I thought is was awesome. Great vacation back then.
Man the summer of 89 was fabulous.batmania was special
I remember the day I came to my best friends house to hangout in 1989, I was 12 years old. When I knocked on his door his mom said his dad took him to the batman premier, man I was so friggin envious!
I remember my uncle driving me to the theater in 89 to see this. I was only 8. Madonna's 'Express Yourself' was playing on the radio as we were on the way to the theater.
Classic memory
Endgame has nothing on this phenomenon.NOTHING!
😑
Ummm, listen I LOVE Batman, but....yeah even I can’t agree with your statement
You probably dont care but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can watch all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of days xD
@Zander Dillon Yup, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
@@Danbo22987 Why can’t you agree? The hype for Endgame was not on the level of this movie. Did you see ever see people walking around with the Avengers logo shaved into their head? Because that’s what happened with this, and the Bat-logo became a fashion statement at the time. There hasn’t been anything like it in recent years.
Great times!! I went to the movies with my mom, my sister and a friend to watch, it was a huge line to get into the movie theater, I was 11, one of my favorite movies!
This is great! Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, Don Johnson, Vanna White? lol Damn everyone wanted to see this great movie. :) The guy from Bettlejuice at 1:16 came out to support his buddy Michael Keaton. :)
Jeffrey Jones, also from Howard the Duck and Ferris Bueller. Had some seriously messed up stuff going on with him the last few years.
@@geoweo7491 seriously messed up.
Jack Nicholson was great, no one else can play--
Mark Hamill debuts 3 years later
Heath Ledger debuts 19 years later
And Joaquin Phoenix debuts 30 years later
This was truly the film that put big dark brooding Batman on the map!
I wish I was alive that year to see it. I'm only 18 in 2022 and about to SEE a live action Batman film in theatres for the first time since I watched them on DVD
1989- 7 years old, and you couldn't go ANYWHERE in downtown Philly without seeing Batman merchandise.
I was only 4 in '89 so i was a little too young. But we did get the vhs a year later and I watched it quite often. So by the time Returns came out in '92 I had become a huge fan, and was old enough to appreciate seeing Batman on the big screen. I'll never forget my dad taking me on opening weekend. It was a real thrill.
1:38 this transition of Batman’s face crushed into a bat sent me
I didn't get to see it in theaters since I was 5 years old until I got the videocassette of Batman in the Fall of 1989 or Early 1990
I wasn't around for Star Wars mania in 1977 but I was around for THIS. I didn't care about movies much before that day in June 1989. But seeing Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (because Batman was sold out) and then seeing Batman on the same day as an 8 year old....changed me. Been devouring films voraciously ever since. Honestly....I think they're both about equal quality wise. Last Crusade and Batman I mean. That's a hell of a one two punch for a little kid..
Those were great times! Batman + Batman Returns are the best! Trouble with Indy though is that its blatant propaganda, but I still enjoy the Young Indy tv show.
check out the documentary ,tgsnt, and you'll see what I mean by it being propaganda.
?
My favourite film ever. I was a young kid at the time and the hype and the mania was fantastic. A truly wonderful summer.
Adam West and Burt Ward, co-stars of the 1960s Batman TV series, didn't get interviewed in this story from Entertainment Tonight.
We drove 120 miles to see it opening weekend with my wife, mom and grandma won’t never forget it and couldn’t wait for it to get it on VHS
I was in year 6 when this movie came out. To say our year went bat crazy would be an understatement.
Awesome clip...Mary Hart's hair was bigger than Gotham City! lol
Jerry Tucker lol
It's hot 😄
I was 4 yrs old in the summer of 89 I remember ppl was excited about Batman and I instantly became a Batman fan
Henry Winkler. oh, yeah it was great! And I haven't seen work in nine years! please, you gotta help, I'm starving, the bank took my house, I've been sleeping in a telephone booth. Michael Keaton yellin: Hey, Winkler! Why don't you pound your fist on life! See if you get that to work! blahahahahahaha
Hehe.
0:44 Bill took chuck's advice to SHUT UP.
I still crazy how huge this movie was! I remember my father taking me to go see it! It funny how fans hate on this movie now. We as 8 year olds loved it! Yes, it's dated now, but I still enjoy the film as a time capsule of a summer blockbuster.
WHAT?!
Oh hell nah I fucking love this movie still. I’m born the year 2000 and grew up watching this on VHS. Only thing though in retrospect is that I got kinda annoyed over how much they made Kim Bassinger scream so much
So awesome! Good old days of Batman not the crap Batman movies we have now!!
0:13 Batman Is A Classic Warner Bros Superhero Action Adventure Family Movie Of All Time Back In 1989. This Is The Same Year As Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade Long Side The Re Release Of Disney's Peter Pan In 1953 And Of Course Disney's The Little Mermaid Which Is Released In Theatres On November 17th 1989 And This Is Disney's 28th Animated Motion Picture And This Is Also From The Disney Renaissance As Well As Alan Menken And Howard Ashman's Very First Ever Disney Animated Blockbuster Movie Of All Time. Thanks Mate. X
I was 8 years old when Batman movie came out
Still my one and only favorite Batman!!! Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson are st my one and only favorite Batman and Joker!!!
I was 12 at the time and I can tell you Batmania was a thing that summer.
manco82 sounds like it was a lot of fun, wish I was around that time to experience it
The videogames back then were good
I remember that song....and the McDonalds cups and stuff. What a fun time to be alive...
The look on the anchors face at the end says it all! Rarely do you get movies like this anymore.
The movie came out the week I was born. In fact, I was born the morning after this news report.
I was three years old when Batman '89 came out, I ended up watching it with my dad on VHS a couple of years later before Batman Returns came out.
This was a REAL hype not the fake hype people do today.
I want to write that my name is Josh Tate and i'm writing that the year 2024 will not only be the 35th anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman film but it will also be Batman's 85th anniversary year too.
I was 2 months old when Batman came out
So, did you enjoy it?
I remember Batmania in 1989
summer of 89: batmania :)
A lot of super stars came to see that old Batman movie hey look even Sylvester Stallone and Eddie Murphy and Jeffy Jones Don Johnson and the rest of the other stars went to see the Batman movie the Opening night cool
I remember the toy line being pretty lame.
Seemed very half assed.
Which is odd, considering how much Warner Bros. was banking on this movie and how great the character of Batman lends himself to toys.
Well, it's just that there were only three action figures. Three! You had Batman, the Joker and his henchman, "Bob."
Then came Batman and Robin...
Who after The Flash teaser?
All the praise for Nicholson. Imagine if they saw Ledger then
@Pan Wrebski ledger is better than nicholson
They would have been underwhelmed. Ledger's death sold TDK's tickets, don't let that nostalgia cloud your head. However, Jack Nicholson's superior performance, and Batman 89 in general, felt more natural as a Batman movie. So it stands the test of time, and is way more fun to watch. The only Batman movie that surpasses it, is Batman Returns.
It’s just too bad Heath Ledger didn’t play The Joker. He played generic lunatic terrorist.
@@JessicaChastainFan Batman returns? Where the penguins fire missiles from their backs?
@@spiritscar I see you're not familiar with the character- dude was always "generic lunatic criminal/terrorist" as you put it
Iy
Little did 80s kids know, they haven’t seen anything yet til Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
What a chump
Funny
Batman '89 is superior and a classic, compared to The Dark Knight. Stop praising these new movies, that don't deserve it.
@@hollywoodmafia4841 "New".. The Dark Knight came out 14 years ago boomer 🙄
@@aNightmaresRequiem compared to Batman '89 its new. plus it's over-rated.
