I wish they would sell their bass pickups. I keep my eyes open for someone selling the pickups out of theirs when they upgrade, but nobody upgrades. ;-)
Thanks, Anthony. I hope you are doing well mate! I can't wait to try some lefties at some point in the near future. They are a cool guitar. That last one Ric played with the three pickups is super cool for blues.
I have 3 Reverends. I will put their guitars (mine were each around $1000) up against any Les Paul, even custom shops. The attention to detail is insane. Every guitar has perfect frets and binding. Their pickups are great too. By far my favorite guitar maker, and I've owned a lot of guitars. Get one!
Fellow lefty and I picked up the Double Agent OG in Metallic Alpine a couple months ago and I legit haven't picked up my strat since. Just immediately fell in love with everything about it and can't put it down. Always good to see Reverend getting some love. I just wish they offered more lefty options (isn't that always the case?)
That Contender 🙂 The house band bringing skills... Dr. Rick's fretboard skills, wow. The tones were killer and holy smokes, loved the Tele rhythms you were laying down.
Dr. Ric's playing is great but his guitar faces are awesome. Great drummer & bass also. Shane you guy's should go on the road together. Unbelievably good band ! Blues On....💙
Absolutely love the "Keys to the Guitar Shop" videos. I mean, just Dr. Rick's face as hr's playing make them worth watching! Great band and those Reverend guitars do have their own kind of sound in the mix. Great job, Shane!
Superb! Loved the video Shane! I think the Reverends are great and I like the bass contour control a lot. Now I just need to buy one, or two, or three...
Reverend guitars are fantastic. I’ve got a couple of them but my favorite is the BC-1. Such a great instrument and those BC/Naylor railhammers are awesome.
I own a Reverend Double Agent OG and a Contender RB, and I love them both. I'm blown away by the quality of the the workmanship and the materials for the price. Plus they're really versatile tone-wise, especially because of the bass contour control. Fantastic guitars.
I own one of their baritone guitars and love it. Shorter scale compared to most, and with more features (e.g., Wilkinson trem, the contour knob, etc.). Did a review on it a while back too.
'Keys to the Guitar Shop Band' Kills it once again!! The Reverends look and sounds pretty unique... I'm a fan. One Day that Contender RB will be Mine!! Thanks once again, Shane and the Crew.
Great video as always. Got an PA Eastsider T Deep Sea Blue, love the neck, chambered body & wouldn't part with it. Took a few months to ship from US to UK but well worth the wait.
Awesome vid - Dr Ric killing it on the Tele style guitar. Neal Young style on the Corgan guitar as well. I've got a Double Agent W lefty Shane its fantastic. The string tree - what a genius idea
Really nice! I love reverend. My wife has the billy corogan model. I was able to play that Pete Anderson tele some years back and I’ve wanted one ever since
I’ve never been high on Reverend Guitars before but this might change my mind!!!! They have a quirky look but they sound great. I don’t plan on owning more guitars than I have fingers and thumbs but who knows??? You four sound amazing and it’s always a pleasure watching and listening to you all play! Cheers!🎸🎸🎸🎸👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I just recently acquired a reverend double agent og, in lefty, it has become my goto guitar. P90 neck with a humbucker bridge on a hard tail... just sweet sweet sickness. Plays silky smooth. Love it. Very high quality instruments.

If I ever go a while without playing one of my Reverends, my jaw tends to drop when I pick it back up again. I'm always surprised by how great they sound, not because I don't expect it, but just because they're THAT good. I bought one of their Club King 290’s brand new in May 2020 (alpine green metallic) and love it so much that I bought a used 2018 Club King RT (RevTron F’tron style pickups) later in 2020 and my faithful old Strats hardly get a look in now! Such a unique and wonderful guitar, impeccably setup straight out of the box and stays in tune for literally days on end. The 290 is my favourite of the two but I put a TV Jones Classic Plus in a soapbar mount in the bridge position so I’ve got that Filtertron sound in the bridge and the excellent Reverend P90 in the neck position. The stock pickups are great and the Bass Contour Control adds so much sonic versatility it’s like having a few sets of pickups in one guitar. Just class. I plan to add a Reverend Eastsider Baritone too. Great company and hats off for showing off their guitars!
@@lincolnjohnson6511 They do tend to infect you with G.A.S.! Both of mine were gifts, the DA from my wife and the Contender from a friend. I'm spoiled....
Reverend guitars are great. I have three and each one has its own personality. They play great, well built, with a good feature set. Reverend pickups are excellent too. The Reverend price points have increased over the years (they were a great bargain 8-10 years ago), but are still competitive and a good bargain. Highly recommended line of guitars that, imo, are fully competitive with other brands costing more.
Managed to get a Jetstream 390 in Salmon (same as what Dr Rick was playing). Being left handed handed had to import from UK. Great value for money and quality control is fantastic (they do there own quality check and set up before they put it on shelves). Still has that retro vibe with many modern appointments (really appreciate lock in tuners which come as standard on all there guitars). Would recommend for anyone who wants something different away from Fender/Gibson. They do not disappoint.
I am up to three Reverends at this point (Eastsider S, Crosscut W, & Jetstream RB), and at this point they fulfill my needs in live situations. They stay in tune better than any other guitar I have without a nut lock. Recording wise, I would be using them 80% of the time, and really only using a Gretsch or a Tele with a three saddle bridge when it is called for. My band is doing Retro Style Original Music (1950s/1960s) and the Reverends work great for that.
One of the prettiest guitars I’ve ever seen was a Reverend! It was a crystal light blue on a beautiful quilted maple. It looked like ocean waves, and it was a lefty. I waited too long, and somebody snapped it up. I’ve regretted it ever since. Someday, I’m gonna see that guitar again.
Not lookin to buy at this moment but that Tele style Reverend is going on my Wish List. That covers all the bases. Light, Stainless frets, trem, lots of pickup options. Perfect.
Great clip Shane. Good to see Reverends getting some air time. I have a couple (Buckshot and Super Rev) great guitars and a bit different without being too freaky.
Any thoughts Reverend vs. Schecter? Considering something different for my next guitar. Maybe Schecter PT Special or Pro, or one of the Reverends with P90s.
Ive owned the reverend Manta Ray and east sided for a few years and I haven’t found anything I like more. They feel and sound great. My favorite part about them though is how well they stay in tune compared to other guitars in their price range.
I had 4 Reverends in the past few years, my favorite was the Eastsider S (which did not have stainless steel frets). My main issue with them is personal... I just don't like the small feeling necks. I had to have fret leveling on most of them to really get them to play top notch. If they ever introduce a different neck profile option I'll probably get another one.
Most people don't realize that the original Reverend guitars, while built in the US and the subject of arguments about quality which I can't speak to because I haven't had the luxury to have one or a few yet, were fabricated nearly completely out of composite materials. That's why I'm kind of on the fence about getting an old one - I don't really know how composite bodies age and it's hit or miss if they *smell* funky (Ibanez Affirma are frequently mentioned in this regard - great basses but they, well, they stink). I guess the original R's would have completely outgassed by now but then if aging another 5-10 years (I keep my instruments, as I play them all) starts to really see the structural integrity drop off then I'd be pretty disappointed after spending what most people want to charge you for one, if you can find one that someone will let go of.
Thanks for this review Shane. I love Reverend guitars, I have a Rick Vito Signature guitar and it is simply stunning to look at and plays and sounds incredible. They have to be one of the best value brands around.
Hi Shane, I was told by someone a long time ago that Reverend guitars aren't very good. After watching this video I must say they sound great! All of them. I would assume that they play great by the way Dr. Rick was going off (wailing). I would be interested in Rick's commentary on how these play. He seemed to be having a great time playing them. :-)
Great Vid and Great Playing Shane and the Boys. I Really dig My Reverend Unknown Hinson Sig. Guitar with P90s,Roasted Maple neck and Bass Contour control Plays Great and has cool Bat fretboard inlays to top it off. Cheers Mate
Went to a guitar store intent on buying a G&L Doheny. Didn't like it. Tried nearly every electric guitar in the store, walked out with a used Reverend 390. It was my ears that decided. I also love the quality and how easily it played. The bass contour is a great feature. It's my No. 2 guitar.
Shane, I've been following your reviews for years. This is probably THE BEST video to date. Great group of musicians from Kiwi ! Keep up the great videos, and for God's Sake just flip your guitar with a mirror !!!
Awesome guitars. I saw one today , the jet stream. Didn’t have time to play it much but going back tomorrow. Very interesting guitars. They impressed me. The roasted neck etc. awesome playing on the video guys.
I wish Reverend would make all their body styles, (especially the T-style for me), with the 3 P-90's like the jetstream guitars. Those pickups are my favorite and most versatile
Big fan of your videos. Class act. Out of my nine guitars my Reverend W with Railhammer Nuevos is by far my favorite. Play it though Suhr Bella and even my playing sounds great.
I always enjoy your videos but... every guitar sounds pretty cool overdriven; they also sound very similar. It's the clean tone that tells the tale. More clean tones please. Cheers.
I got the Six Gun HPP. I’m a total newb so the versatility is kinda lost on me for the time being. Time & practice is slowly changing that. I’m really digging the Retro Blast mini Humbuckers that Reverend is putting into their guitars. I hear that the Flatroc is shipping to dealers this week sometime, I’d love to grab one of those!
I'm not trying to be the negative one here, but, I'm still not sure if there's a Reverend that "fits" me, what I'm looking for, and my style. That is nothing at all negative about Reverend. I've really "Tried" to find a Reverend that will "fit" me. I just haven't. That isn't a negative about Reverend in the least. What they are producing just does not fit my preferences at this point. Great Video!! Please keep the videos coming!!
Are you a trombone player? Reverend has all kinds of guitars that do everything guitars can do. Some people refuse to consider a guitar that is not a Fender or a Gibson, but if quality and sound are your main concerns, there is a Reverend for you.

Their double agent OG interest me the most. P90 and humbucker seems like the best combo but maybe there is a reason the big two don’t do it
I have a DAOG, and it's really versatile because of the pickup combination. And the bass contour gives you that much more versatility of tone.

It's my No. 2 guitar.
Have an east sider with Wilson trem. Stays in tune and sounds great. Easily contends and exceeds any $2,500 guitar for half the price.
Another great video Shane. I would normally never pay any attention to these if I saw them in the shop.
I went back and got it. It’s a monster of a guitar.
I wish Reverend would make all their body styles, (especially the T-style for me), with the 3 P-90's like the jetstream guitars. Those pickups are my favorite and most versatile
I really want to try some Revends out sometime but no one local carries them. And I'm not buying one on hopes and dreams.
Big fan of your videos. Class act. Out of my nine guitars my Reverend W with Railhammer Nuevos is by far my favorite. Play it though Suhr Bella and even my playing sounds great.
Beautiful, I could listen to you guys all day. Thank you 🎸
Holy smokes, Rick can play! Would love any of the Reverends with P90s. But jeez, Rick can flat out play.
Might just pick one up. You pushed me over the edge, lol
How did you like the Vintera II Nocaster? I’m looking at one of them too. I like the Pete Anderson Blk Reverend w/white binding.
All good. That's the idea of all of the videos to showcase stuff that may or may not be right for anyone watching. Rock on :)
Are you a trombone player? Reverend has all kinds of guitars that do everything guitars can do. Some people refuse to consider a guitar that is not a Fender or a Gibson, but if quality and sound are your main concerns, there is a Reverend for you.
Was that a mix of Sea of Heartache & Tunnel of Love that Dr. Ric played with the Revernd Contender?
LOve the Docs playing man,......and Shanes too!!!
I'd love a Gristletone 90
