- with the spoof Micky Mouse Club intro, "Steamboat Fatty", several very funny sketches set in Post Offices, Court Rooms and the Royal Pointless and Utterly Futile Military Things Tournament with Sgt. Dave Velco and his trained shrubbery bush Caesar.

The high tension concrete made from meringue gag has taken a while to become relevant but we are there now. I remember this show when it was on.
Alexei was an observational genius; One of my pet hates of the 80’s was braving a 30-60 minute queue at the Post Office to get car tax to be greeted by an obstructive lethargic slow and unconcerned self important counter staff every-time and I have been looking for this episode for ages- sublime stuff!
Mine was having an elephant fall on me 'ead.
IS. IS a genius
You can find his channel on here now
Surprisingly relevant even these days.
The first 40 seconds_ no change in 30 years
he makes me laugh, often speaks the truth about our society
Thanks Alexi, been laughing my proletariat arse off. Completely forgot your genius.
Amazing to think back to the days when you could be a leftie and cool at the same time. And there was also no stigma about drag queen story times to worry about!
This was a genuine treat for me. Though I had seen Sayles on The Secret Policeman's Ball and a few other things, I had never seen this before. It is subversive, intelligent, and holds up very well 30 years later. Change a few names--say Thatcher to Johnson--and it could have been made last week. I loved the involuntary cameo by David McCullum. It was fun seeing pre-QI Angus Deaton as well. Ye-e-e-e-e-e- Haw comrade! Thinks for the upload. It made my day.
Loved this great series when it was first shown. Still as funny now as it was back then.
Missed most of these at the time. Crying with laughter now.
thats funny, cuz i laughed at the time and miss them now
@Colm Deasy genies would rather watch a show about lifeguards than fuck pamela 'wizards sleeve' anderson
Hilarious I have not laughed so much in years . Thank you Alexei .
unsafe tower blocks built by the council... very Nostrodamus!
I went to see Alexei doing his stand up act in Preston a few decades ago and I am still laughing now!
how can a guy be so brilliant
It's because he's a cartoon character! You can't begin to imagine how much corporate money, market research and man-hours go into a single seven-minute Alexei Sayle featurette!
One of the funniest guys ever, I can't believe it's not butter whilst holding a brick was the best joke he did but I can't find it on the net.
Just how I like my comedy, menacing with a hint of violence.
Gavin Harvey I like it with insidious propaganda. Just my cup of tea. Til Death Us Do Part eat your pinko Zionist heart out.
@@therespectedlex9794 You are a strange man, Lex.
@@therespectedlex9794 A hahahaha. Best laugh today. You do know that Mitchell was Jewish in real life, yes? And PLAYED a bigot on TV, to take the piss mostly.
@@stevencowie7151 That is precisely my point you moronic bloody clot.
@@MCVessels I'm sarcastic too
Absolutely brilliant!
17:33 An ominous foreshadowing of Grenfell Tower.
Coconut merengue was never going to werrrrkkk
Actually, a tower block called Ronan Point partially collapsed in 1968. Many people don't realise why Maggie Thatcher was so keen to sell them off in the 80's. They already knew they were a disaster within years of them being built.
How precient much of this is and how interesting that much of what was considered left is now mainstream....Ah life snot wot it uzed 2B.....
Alexie, Kenny Everett and Dame Edna Everage, the 3 funniest of all time!
Really? only 1 is funny..alexi.
Everett was a serious tory..check your facts
Every thing I know about dancing I learnt from Alexie Sayle. Revolutionary Biscuits of Italy… Rise up out of your box.
The "Night Mail" bit is STILL awesome.
Alexei is refered to as fat on this.......yet today he would be slim to medium!
yep, the kid at school who we called fatty, would be medium , now the streets and asda are full of obese people buying their processed foods...
he would also be a victim of Hate Crime
He would still think you are all judgemental middle class knobs, though.
he can identify as any weight he wants! you oppressive monster! even a dandruff sufferer! you brute!
Thanks for posting Remember this one so good.
Menstrual Cycles! LOL. It's funny because there is an actual cycle store just like the one in the sketch and it was recently in the news. A man far ahead of his time!
Britain
Where the past has been forgotten
Brilliant !
Love the man.then and now on the bike scooting around down the smoke ;))
Fang brilliant....the stuff about school and his name...priceless 😂😂😂😂😂 Komrad Tovarich
Love it. I watched it when it originally aired. Friday evenings summer time. When cable tv was worth having.
Eh? It was on bbc
@@j0nnyism correct
Loved Alexi from his appearances on the Young Ones back in the day.
But what I found most interesting about this was the obvious Michael Palin and John Cleese impersonators in some of the sketches. Even though this (like the Young Ones) was supposed to be new wave, alternative comedy, Monty Python still casts its shadow over everything.
Angus Deayton is putting on his best Cleese, no doubt about it.
cripes you don't arf talk some shite
@MCVessels: Didn't know the actor's name, so thanks.
And the guy who said "So thank God it's still 1960" at the end of the B/W sketch, gave a characterisation (at least to my ears) very reminiscent of Michael Palin.
I think Python and the Goons were the blueprints for alternative comedy. That wasn't the comedy they saw themselves as alternative to.
Christ nothing has changed 30 years later
❤when it was worth having cable. I ditched it years ago. Long live Alexi Sayle!
Cable in the UK?
Still brilliant
Alexi was brilliant saw him live, couldn't stop laughing😂😂😂
Ah, who could forget Lord Hailsham's teenage fans?
😁😂😂The Dire Straits rant!!
Britain: Where the past's been forgotten. Still topical.
Top marks Alexi.

14:21 That Superman joke is watered down for the BBC; on Alexei's original album it was "Remember, though Superman can fly, you can't; not unless you take an awful lot of drugs." Clearly Auntie Beeb had a panic about that sending a glamorizing message about drug taking, so they made it a joke about alcoholism instead! Because it is okay to glamorize legal drug abuse!.~
Genius, always ahead of the times
Fuck! I'd forgotten wow wonderful this was!
Actually, series 2 was from 1989, not 90. Season 3 was 1991. They skipped a year. Still a fantastic series nonetheless. This is episode four.
thanks - I stand corrected (well sitting down actually but you get the point)
9:31 A corpse working in the post office is a bit relevant now regarding the Horizon scandal.
"The Sth African Poison Gas & Armoured Car Mfg. Co. Plc."
Sodham G'morris 7:17 and you missed the LTD at the end. :)
The song about junk mail was priceless.
"Britain: where the past’s been well and truly forgotten" - just as true today.
I just realized that PSY (Gangnam Style) got that look and that manic physical comedy from Alexei. Take a look at his entrance at 1:20.
Pete Murray.. still alive and he must have been 64 in that clip
I forgot how subversive this stuff was, great social comment on stuff that has only gotten worse since this was made.
I miss Alexei's observational comedy 14:47 pity it's even more relevant now in 2024
Alexei, if you are reading this, you are the resistance. stand up once more and lampoon the foolish sociological ideals of our current days. that is all.
check out his imaginary sandwich bar series on radio 4, he's still going strong
Alexei always reads his youtube comments, as he munches through half a box of peak freans trotsky assortments
@@deviceology9251 Remember this one: "Nice? _Nice??_ That's something you say about BISCUITS!!" ;D
He wants his jelly, he was promised jelly. The BBC didn't give him any jelly, they didn't give Rod Hull any jelly either. Despicable.
emu 8 it
brilliant, great he is still busy mocking those that most deserve it, long may he continue,
A very very clever funny clever man. Love him. I’m on pills for me nerves....bloody sod yer then.
are you living in the back of your jag?
Everyone notice a very young Cheryl Cole in the opening?
FXxking brilliant and completely relevant forever. Nice, nice? How's you Jacob cream crakers? Nice?
So relevant...
Alexei Sayle was hilarious on The Young Ones x
His best work was after...duurr.
@@Shadowking-oz5tb so that makes him not funny in the young ones? Him? A driving instructor from Johannesburg?
@@bbb462cid No, he was great in the young ones but my point was that he was so much more after that Mr Mugabe err I mean Blutarsky :))
Overnight Frog has been rebranded and is now called Hermes.
Laughin so much . One of me bollocks has gone into hiding
Now the other one is trying to escape . Gonna have to get a knitting needle and force it back my urethra
Anyone else noticed every time alexei wears a suit he still has white socks on that stand out-
So clever. My god. God. Hahahhaha
most of series two pieces to camera consist of old material released on a live LP about 5-6 years before.
Cricketting necrophiliacs of the 1940's 😂
Excellent innit
Such a great show. Saw it on the Dallas PBS station when it was new. They only ran it once. Wonder why?
Because no one in Dallas could understand a bloody word.
Pretty timeless really.
Great comedy and still current in some ways. Best regards from Milton Springsteen New town
Damn 31 years ago!!!!!
Actually, Gupta does live in Milton Springsteen New Town.
Shows how much to the right the country has lurched through te years from this ,Blair has a lot to answer for . socialism will be out in the cold for a long time sadly.People want different thiings now.
Mark Mc Mullan The Great Tao flows everywhere,
to the left and to the right,
all things depend on it to exist,
and it does not abandon them.
to its accomplishments it lays no claims.
It loves and nourished all things,
but does not lord it over them.
Like Kenny Everett makes me cry with laughter
Now looks like father Christmas 😅
And they thought Thatcher was bad.
Its still right on to mock Winston Churchill, Alexei!!! 🤣 Oh how I miss the days when it was cool to be a leftie, and there was no guilt by association about Drag Queen Story Time.
Alexei needs a recommission.
Ah i loved this show back in the day, and it still hasn't fucking aged (the Britain skit being on point) Ta for the upload as i'd completely forgot.
I wonder if the Armoured car and poison gas company is hiring these days?...
My comment below has a line going through part of the text. Does anyone no what that is all about ?
If you put hyphens around your text, it becomes -strikethrough- text. Surrounding it with asterisks makes it *bold* text, and using underscores makes it _italicised_ text.
sayle is only about 7 years younger than jimmy cricket but they seem to come from different eras. this has dated well whereas crickets stuff is like old music hall comedy.
I know what you mean. Things changed so much in the 80s! It's worth noting that this series was co-written by David Renwick, famous for writing sketches for the Two Ronnies, a far more traditional act. For the record, I like both kinds of acts - Alexei Sayle and Jimmy Cricket :)
Wellies with L & R labels on them the wrong way round ... ' the long winter nights just flew by ' !!
A bit different to John Gotta Nu Motto. He should have done more music. I forgot how good this series was.
Amazing street scenes, here a Gas showroom so many proper shops, not pound shops. proper kids playgrounds, with do it yourself danger toys! Quiet streets etc. To think this was 1990, Thatcher went in October this year. Major, Blair, Cameron May & Johnson were just round the corner, and We have just left Europe - Brexit Brexit Brexit
Even 30 years ago the BBC was hard left. I guess its where it all started. At least back then it was a bit radical then, not so much now
Utter codswallop. The BBC has always been, at its core, about as establishment as it gets. You realise the current Dir. Gen. is an ex-Tory party candidate?
What is it with you lot?
End missing! The rest was great though...
tennage girls attracted to lords ?, its the otherway round now....even mps and 16 year old boys.....
I am sure it was no different back then. Also Epstein didn't kill himself.
we got this on TVO when I was in university, always brightened up a Thursday evening
What was TVO?
I like Dire Straits but then again, I'm a silly twat! Alexei Rules, OK! T-gurl Jayne
Judith Grant?
And things were going so well this last year. My sister who is multi-lingual-years ago-this man above the young ones. Does he support the Villa?
17:52 Jacob Reese Mogg in a nutshell.
3:40 obviousness then
So why is it not now?? 🧐
Errrmm.......right.
back in the day we knew how laugh without hurting anyone , now we are bland dumb and too scared to speak up...
So.......
Nobody knew anything then
4:00 ... just what is it?... there all chomos
OMG go to @4:03 did they know back then ?????????????
