Up the Beanstalk was broken for different reasons though. If Beans was still around it would 100% play Nulldrifter but: - Beans being 2 mana means it can be cascaded into - Beans replaced itself on ETB - Beans worked with a lot of the free evoke elemental cards, allowing you to draw into more elementals or Bindings, play those for free and keep drawing. - Beans was in green which can ramp hard - There are a lot more "free" or very low cost 5 cmc spells than 7 cmc. -Beans worked with all spells and not just creatures Which is why Unsealing is very much not Beans.
Also blue is already draw heavy, so there are easily other ways to draw. That make it less impressive. "oh look, the blue player is drawing 10 cards again". Though, I think the eldrazi spawns are what make this good because blue barely has ramp
Just a note because you showed a Prototype card briefly on-screen while talking about mana costs: If you cast a Prototype card using its Prototype ability, the spell is the cost of the Prototype ability. NOT the cost in the top-right: 702.160a: Prototype is a static ability that appears on prototype cards that have a secondary set of power, toughness, and mana cost characteristics. A player who casts a spell with prototype can choose to cast that card "protoyped." If they do, the alternative set of its power, toughness, and mana cost characteristics are used. See 718, "Prototype Cards." 718.3b: Both a prototyped spell and the permanent it becomes have only its alternative set of power, toughness, and mana cost characteristics. If that mana cost includes one or more colored mana symbols, the spell and the permanent it becomes are also that color or colors (see rule 105.2).
For the record, I'm aware that specific card also has Affinity (and that's why you showed it), but just wanted to help spread the knowledge that Prototype itself doesn't work like Evoke or other cost reduction mechanics or effects, and actually 'sets' the spell's actual mana cost/value differently.
@@attackoncardboard Of course! Like I said, it was less of a "You're wrong!" comment to you and more "Be careful about what mechanics work with it" to the other viewers. And I only said it because I once saw my LGS owner (who's won GPs before) try to counter a prototyped Arcane Proxy (7cmc card but a 3cmc Prototype) with a Disdainful Stroke (counters spells with 4+cmc), so know even enfranchised players sometimes get it wrong!
Excuse me Gabe Newell, I'd like a refund. I was winning a modern challenge when all my opponents said this mother fucka eatin BEANS. I would like to refund your game please.
Beanstalk cantripped on its own at one less mana, that puts the floor way above unsealing, and the threshold being able to cantrip from solitude and leyline binding is why it’s so much better.
I don’t think that it is as good as up the beanstalk because the main cards that broke it were leyline binding and solitude which this doesn’t work with but it will definetly be very powerful
Its neat at all, but it costs one more than beans, doesn't cantrip, and requires CMC two higher to trigger, AND it only triggers on creatures. Yeah, it does the rampy thing, and draws multiple cards per 7-drop, but that only matters if you're playing mono-blue eldrazi tron, or magically get to 7 mana in a high power format. It might be playable, but the fact it does nothing when it hits, and only triggers on creatures is meaningful.
What got up the Beanstalk banned was its synergy with the evoke elementals and Leyline binding. I don't think it warps modern but it could see some play in affinity decks.
well thats how i play my eldrazi deck on mtg arena. but i use urzas incubator which reduces the cost of creatures with a type i choose by 2, on top of having it that heralds the end which also reduces colourless cards with cost of 7 or higher by 1 you get your nulldrifter from 7 to 0 in no time, no need for evoking except if you need an early draw. funny thing is if you use the whole thing with glaring fleshraker. you basically play eldrazi for 0-2 mana and spawn in a token to give you a mana. on top of kozileks unsealing giving you tons of tokens from thought knot seer, which in turn is shooting tons of dmg with fleshraker. My list is(still laking some tokens to finish the deck): 4x Chromatic Sphere 4x It That Heralds the End 4x Mind Stone 4x Kozilek's Unsealing 4x Glaring Fleshraker 4x Matter Reshaper 4x Urza's Incubator 4x Thought-Knot Seer 1x Ulalek, Fused Atrocity 1x Forsaken Monument 2x Echoes of Eternity 4x Drowner of Truth 4x Nulldrifter 3x Cavern of Souls 4x Conduit Pylons 4x Crystal Grotto 1x Three Tree City 4x Ugin's Labyrinth already a tight list, but rlly consistent and fast. ofc historic decklist. echoes of eternity is so busted, since it copies the triggers of the other echoes as well. so the 2nd echo you play is copied which means you get 2 instead of 1. leaving you with 3 echoes. if you then play anything you get a trigger from fleshraker and 9 copies of that trigger. so fleshraker now spawns in 10 tokens which trigger fleshrakers second ability and shoot 10 dmg which is copied another 9 times so you end up with 100 dmg. so yeah against a lifegain deck you just dont care. but the main reason 2 echoes are in the deck is to increase the likelyhood of drawing one without getting stranded with useless cards in the early game in case you got a bad draw. i mean you can cycle through your entire deck in no time with the right cards.
I can see where you're going with this, however I feel like this is an infinitely more situational beans, the old one triggered of, namely, force of will which was a bit part of it, the only really relevant cards this will trigger off of are Murtide, and the Myr Enforcer variants
It will be a massive upgrade to affinity admittedly, possibly strong enough to replace thought monster in some lists as theh now can run 12 myr enforcers
I'm keen to see how this card plays out. Happy to be wrong but drawing 3 cards a pop seems like it will more than make up for the ETB draw and the Elements/Force bonus draws.
There are so many differences K's unsealing will not likely see modern play ever: 3cmc matters a lot, this is an awful turn 3 play Unpitchable to evoke cards Does not replace itself with etb Does not enable interactive spells like solitude or leyline binding This is a casual commander card.
@@attackoncardboardcmc, replacing itself, do you even play modern? Decks are winning on turn 2-4 and the ones that aren't run a nauseating amount of premium interaction. Are you really planning on casting a 3 mana enchantment and saying "now my value engine is online"
No. Beanstalk draws a card on etb, costs one less, and draws a card when you cast any spell 5cmc or greater vs only creatures and 7 cmc. They are not the same.
Y’all are way way way too hype on this card and it should not be compared to beans. You can’t cast it until a turn later and it does nothing on etb. And I would say, even on its most generous evaluation, it’s win-more. At the end of the day, 3 mana do nothing enchantments just aren’t good in competitive 60 card constructed.

However it does draw you 3x as many cards.
