Jones could be used as a Tysom Hill type QB as a Darnold change up, runner with pass potential PLUS if he leaves Vikings gets a comp pick all for a few hundred thousand dollars. Well played Vikings. Good luck Daniel Jones, you have a great coach, from a Giants fan.
I don't get it, up until last week everyone says Jones is no good, Giants should move on. But now they talk about him as if the Giants have released one of leagues best players
Saquon is having the best year of his career playing behind far and away the best offensive line he's ever had. Hardly a coincidence. The narrative of the Giants letting Saquon go being a massive mistake because of his current success is just really lazy. We've seen Saquon on the Giants, it's not the same Saquon as we're seeing on the Eagles. If the Giants had kept him, they wouldn't be getting that same player anyway.
I sincerely wonder if any sports show does film analysis. Daniel Jones has produced horrible film for years. I mean, we're talking inability to go past his first read, missing wide open guys in the slot, inability to read defenses, etc. He got picked up because the Giants are on the hook for most of his salary, and the Vikings needed another backup. Seriously, do some film analysis.
This scenario was unexpected, and still a great deal for the Vikings at this juncture. And most of what you said about Jones was applied to Darnold, and that hasn’t gone too badly. I think this is an interesting turn of events that could have a longer term upside for Jones and the Vikings.
There is no question that this improves the Vikings. Maybe not by all that much but Daniel Jones is way better than Nick Mullens. As a GIANTS fan, I can't imagine the depth of hurt, pain and embarrassment of the fan base if in 2 months the headlines read: "Daniel Jones lead the Vikings to the NFC championship game against The Eagles."
Darnold has been hurt twice the last 2 games. Sunday was out for 2 plays. Darnold will likely cost too much next year to keep. Rookie was hurt in preseason and just had 2nd procedure done last week. No, not dumb. Very smart move.
We were all expecting Sam to be gone next year, honestly. He's played well enough to earn himself another shot as a primary starter somewhere else, which never lined up with the Vikings' long-term plans for JJ McCarthy.
Sam is gonna get paid somewhere. Only way Vikings resign him is if we do well in the playoffs. No one expected Vikings to be in the playoffs this year. Sam already won. Hopefully Jones is a comp pick, or gets resigned as a backup for McCarthy..
Jones has had flashes like the playoff game and the 9 reg season games with 300+ yards. But he has been maddeningly inconsistent, prone to sacks fumbles and interceptions at the worst possible times, 1 win in 16 career prime time games. Certainly some of that is because the Giants were terrible around him. Bad o-line, never had a good WR until Nabers this year, Barkley hurt too much. I thought Jones showed a lot of heart and toughness and seems like a standup guy. But I am glad the Giants are done with him. Maybe the change will be good for him. Minnesota seems like a good spot, strong team around him if they end up needing him.
Anybody who compares Daniel Jones to Dave Brown is unfair to Jones. Throughout his Giants tenure, Brown acted like a spoiled brat, constantly whining and triangulating responsibility for his failures. While Jones has not been a great on the field QB, he has certainly represented himself and the franchise well through his locker room presence, on and off the field demeanor, and community activities. JWF, UMA2 ‘91
on November 27. Daniel Jones appeared at the team of Sam Darnold. Several years earlier Darnold’s former team had thrown him out, requesting that he never return. Can an ex giant and an ex jet share a team without driving each other crazy/
Jones gets one playoff win a few seasons ago and it's being acclaimed everywhere as some sort of historic moment the likes of which the NFL has never seen before. Get over it.
Listen, I hate the giants more than anyone. But there is a difference between the number of wins, and the strength of a win. He may not win many, but that was an impressive playoff game. Still not worth anything, but still.
I remember everyone being fully aware during that season that the Giants had the absolute softest schedule ever, and that their playoff matchup was also a chump.
In most contexts I agree. But in playoff runs there’s benefit to having high ceiling performers. There’s a small number of games and players can go off. So having Jones as a cheap backup makes a lot of sense
I see a bunch of people in the comments who haven’t watched much of Daniel Jones…kid is better runner than he is a QB. No pocket feel or presence, the game moves way too fast for him to process info pre & post snap & he has average arm talent/strength.
Vikings fans trust me you are straight for Jones as a backup. Playing for my Giants is so tough. The guy never had a chance playing here. The fan base is horrible and constantly bitch and moan. That stuff wears on you. We will not have anything good because of how annoying we are as fans. I feel Jones has what it takes, but it needed to be elsewhere. The Vikings is a great spot for him to relax and reset. We will see another NYC QB flourish once they leave NY. Sam Donald, Geno Smith, and soon to be D. Jones. I can't wait to see him succeed.
That is a very emotional response and with such outpouring affection for DJ, it should have been you who wrote his goodbye statement. But fr fr, he almost threw 7000 yds passing and 94 td passed in high school and nobody, but f____g Princeton wanted him. Those numbers don’t even garner him the scholarship he had to walk on for at Duke. Again, he walked on to play QB at Duke after having solid numbers in HS. He didn’t win (at all) at Duke and we’ve seen his NFL resume (despite whittle Waniel gwetting the short end of the stick). He’s a WB who never elevated his play and made guys better around him. Again, the love he got from his teammates was on some personal s___t; they defended his personality and not his play. He lasted 5.5 in NYC, like how much more patient would any fan base have been with him?
Aren’t we cutting Mullins next year then since we got Jones? I mean so far we have Darny boy now Danny boy Mullens and Rypian. What’s the max capacity that we can have for quarterbacks because I have a feeling we’re gonna have to cut one(that either being Mullens or Rypian)
As a giants fan I just want people to realize… WE HAVE BEEN TRASH FOR AGES! WE DO NOT CARE IF PLAYERS WHO LEFT ARE THRIVING WHEN WE WERE STILL TAKING LS WITH THEM! Lol like with Barkley people act like the giants didn’t try to use Barkley or something his whole tenure?! 😂 we TRIED!
As a Giants fan, I wholeheartedly disagree. We should've blown this up and rebuilt the second his rookie contract was up. No hate for DJ, he was a classy guy who never complained despite the organization failing him. But, let's be real, this team needs to be torn down to the studs and rebuilt from the ground up. Schoen needs to be the next one out the door, and I honestly wouldn't cry to see Daboll leave either. This team is a travesty, we need to start from square 1 if we ever want to get ourselves out of this hole we've dug.
Been saying the same thing. Why would they give him that contract after one year knowing he hadn’t done much of anything before? Scheon is a horrible fake Bill Polian and no one is mistaking Brian Daboll for Saban or McDermott. I really hate that the owner gave both (another f____g reprieve when they didn’t deserve the first two. Sucks all around but this was bad business and how the rich continually stay in power. The NFL has a CBA negotiation coming up and I guarantee the owners are going to push for more money and control. The move was bad optics but you are right, had they done this two years ago it is definitely seen differently

How on earth is he making it sound like he is the second coming? Are you mentally challenged? He’s a good backup signing and you think that means he can’t still be a bust?
As a GIANTS fan, I can't imagine the depth of hurt, pain and embarrassment of the fan base if in 2 months the headlines read: "Daniel Jones lead the Vikings to the NFC championship game against The Eagles."
I love how everyone changed up.....ohh he's terrible blah blah.....and now he's gone there acting like Giants made the biggest mistake ever
When did Rich say the Giants made a mistake. I swear the NFL has the dumbest fans on Earth.
Seems dumb to me. Firstly Darnold is playing well, secondly they have a highly drafted rookie.
Jones will be depth; a back-up for Darnold for this year as their rookie draft is injured for this year
Darnold has been hurt twice the last 2 games. Sunday was out for 2 plays. Darnold will likely cost too much next year to keep. Rookie was hurt in preseason and just had 2nd procedure done last week. No, not dumb. Very smart move.
It's sure as hell not a win for Sam Darnold.
They just told him goodbye for next year.
Sam was never coming back to Minnesota
We were all expecting Sam to be gone next year, honestly. He's played well enough to earn himself another shot as a primary starter somewhere else, which never lined up with the Vikings' long-term plans for JJ McCarthy.
Sam is going to be saying goodbye to Minnesota, we aren’t paying him the best offer he’s going to get
Sam is gonna get paid somewhere. Only way Vikings resign him is if we do well in the playoffs. No one expected Vikings to be in the playoffs this year. Sam already won. Hopefully Jones is a comp pick, or gets resigned as a backup for McCarthy..
@@R00sterf1sh Good luck with McCarthy who just had his second surgery this month .
As a dolphins fan.....complete stupidity to not have gone after Jones hard. smh.
Make him a TE...get him in that realm too...
I feel the same way, just put some weight on
on November 27.
You’re underestimating how bad the Giants are
Listen, I hate the giants more than anyone. But there is a difference between the number of wins, and the strength of a win.
He may not win many, but that was an impressive playoff game. Still not worth anything, but still.
I remember everyone being fully aware during that season that the Giants had the absolute softest schedule ever, and that their playoff matchup was also a chump.
@@marcusgarcia5089 to be fair, their playoff match was a home 3rd seed with a 13-4 record. If that’s chump to you, I’d be curious who your team is.
In most contexts I agree. But in playoff runs there’s benefit to having high ceiling performers. There’s a small number of games and players can go off. So having Jones as a cheap backup makes a lot of sense
Nick Mullins catching strays
It would be soooo damn epic if Jones starts to ball out like Saquon did after leaving... Another Giants blunder.
I see a bunch of people in the comments who haven’t watched much of Daniel Jones…kid is better runner than he is a QB. No pocket feel or presence, the game moves way too fast for him to process info pre & post snap & he has average arm talent/strength.
John Mara has turned the Giants into one of the worst run franchises in all of sports.
A Vikings Eagles NFC Championship game would make me laugh hard enough to vomit🤣
Can't he be signed off the Vikings practice squad by any other team?
The Giants cause me immeasurable pain. At least the Knicks are fun to watch.
Super important + impressive Vikings didn't pay Cousins again. Great for the team & great for the NFL.
Falcons foolishly did for 4 yrs 180 mill.
The disrespect to Nick Mullens smh
What will be Vikings QB situation next year?
Aren’t we cutting Mullins next year then since we got Jones? I mean so far we have Darny boy now Danny boy Mullens and Rypian. What’s the max capacity that we can have for quarterbacks because I have a feeling we’re gonna have to cut one(that either being Mullens or Rypian)
So the Minnesota Vikings have TWO NY flameouts?!
😂 we TRIED!
All of a sudden Daniel jones is good?😂😂😂 the media are such clowns
Minnesota is becoming New New York
JJ Mac is obviously the future.. Congratulations Vikings you now have 2 reclamation projects.. Makes sense though
One has 0 starts and the other had 69 starts
🤡
@@ChazUBCS so that's the strategy? keep JJ at 0 starts ?
Don’t believe JJ is the answer, but time will tell.
Depth is a good thing
He might get a 1 yr 'prove it' deal if Darnold walks....cheap mentor for JJ....
people just kicking us while we are down
Wish. Daniel jones the best his a great guy god. Bless him go Daniel
Good for Jones and the Vikings - Get him out of the New York Publicity Vortex ? 🤔
On a good team with pieces Jones can be effective. He can't carry a team like the giants were expecting.
So the Giants let Barkley walk because they paid Jones. Then they let Jones walk after like 10 games. Seems like a well ran organization to me!! 😂😂😂
Come on , Daniel jones is Mitch trubisky that had Saquon .
So the Vikings are about to make the same mistake the Giants did? Get fooled by one playoff game.
Steelers showed the NFL how to treat waiver QBs.
Jones should play te
It’s all irrelevant because JJ McCarthy is the future of the Minnesota Vikings. He will be the next Patrick Mahomes bringing multiple Super bowls to the frozen tundra! 🥶 🏈 🏆
It’s hilarious because he is going to a a well built team with weapons and o lines
