More dangerous is the educated man who knows how to fight than being simply one or the other. What a beautiful display of a man. He reminds me of my grandfather who was a WW 2, Korean War, and Vietnam War vet. But aside from being one hell of a fighter he was an educated, reasonable man. I miss this generation.
Armdrag86 my dad is one from his generation I tlk to him everyday to stay sharp
Jeff cooper is still one of my heroes. He gave a gift to me, to use through life. So sad his passing. He is missed!
"When the muzzle is touching the target, marksmanship is really not all that critical."
I attended Gunsite in ‘90 & ‘93, 250 & 260. What an experience, one that lasts a lifetime. RIP Jeff Cooper
LTC Cooper is 1 of my true heroes
Gunsite '79. In 1984 I came home, at night, to find an armed burglar ransacking my house. The same old 1911 that went through Gunsight with me, and the training and confidence infused into me by Jeff Cooper, sent the burglar through a plate glass window.
"...you can maintain your dignity, which is of course, more important than your life." A Very honorable man, was Jeff Cooper. Not to mention all that he did for the firearm industry.
Thought process not weapons!!!!
First guy I’ve say you learn to shoot at home at squirrel!! Not armed forces!
I miss generation eternally - sincerely a 31 year old man in 2022 .
May Allah bless him in the next life greatly . His message has been well received & has saved my life multiple times .
favorite line is " caliber don't matter if you can't hit your target."
But the 45 will kill you even if you're hit in the pinky. Lol
"Don't tempt me, we could be here all night..." and we will diligently stay with you, sir, for we love to hear you speak.
Yeah Col. Cooper was right. I attended Gunsite several times. He was the Lead Instructor for my API 270 rifle class back in August 1990.
He passed September 26, 2006 at 86 years old.
favorite line is "you are out gunned only if you miss."
As a young Lawman in the early 80's, I learned so much from his training doctrines. He is one of the foremost teachers of Combat Handguning. He is right there with Bill Jordan, Jack Weaver and Elmore Keirh. By the Grace of God and Street Survival Training I an still alive
fascinating to watch him profesi exactly what had happened to the US, he warned against the militarization of federal agencies, and that the American public would be too apathetic to do anything about it
Jeff Cooper rules! Semper Fi Colonel Cooper! RIP!
This man has saved many lives with his knowledge and experiences. A truly great man. Rip J Cooper
Guy was so ahead of his time. It’s scary look what’s happening today he knew about it even back then.
Mr Cooper was a great Man.
America has been so blessed by Almighty God to have been blessed with Col. Cooper.
His statement is the essence of why the USA has the second amendment:
If the government doesn't obey its own laws who disciplines the government? Now you can say "we can vote"...yeah we can vote if we will, but what if the government doesn't like how we vote? What happens then?
Tyranny is defined as that which the goverment is allowed to have/ do, but the citizenry isn't. And you know what they founding fathers thought about tyranny.. It is *the* reason our founding fathers left England, to start a new life in this new land, in the first place. That's not to mention the things they did to finally break the chains which held them to the English crown
The last 3 years?
@@dongray9852are you referring to the demtard wild goose chase where they did NOTHING other than piss away tax dollars chasing a spectre while their candidate was REALLY on a Russian payroll ?
What happens then? You're looking at it.
What happens when the government doesn't like your vote? They elect Biden through massive fraud.
They sure don't make 'em like they used to! Thanks for this outstanding piece.
Great version of this video. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure CT. One thing I've discovered is that most people that join the Police or the Military are NOT motivated by skill of arms or the return use of force scale. I was incorrect to assume that all members are naturally interested in being their very best at dealing with highly stressful situations.
This is gold, this information is important for the law abiding citizen.
Man oh man, what a great video. Absolute wisdom from someone who had it in spades!
"...she lifted the handgun from his waistband and killed him..."
APPLAUSE and the Guru was pleased
words of wisdom during this Covid19 pandemic.
Excellent.I unfortunately have found myself under the gun several times. The last time was in 2013, when I was 57. I came out with bruises. Guy with gun also came out with bruises. But was arrested in hospital while police were taking my statement. You either have the mindset or you don't. Train your mind.
I love that highly technical term, "Chinese Fire Drill."
Wonderful for him to share his knowledge.
When seconds matter. The cops are minutes away.
This man should’ve been president
Excellent!Thanks so much,it's been a few years since I've seen this,it's now being shared from Florida to Maine,where I'm originally from.Thanks again!MLU
Great! What was my favorite line? "I can't answer that, it would be incriminating." A great American!
Refreshing to see this again. Thanks.
Great idea Riflechair. Thanks for bringing this video out.....
Great listen. Thanks for posting Riflechair.
Thank you for sharing this highly useful commentary from our own Col. Cooper of our Marine Corp.
Marine Corps
Thank you for uploading and sharing! Fascinating watch
Thanks Col. Cooper.
WOW... Spot on wisdom.
GREAT best yet!!!
An excellent speech
Very good presentation. As a teacher, I am still a student who listen and take notes..
dignity , Bravo Colonel
This man is so right on what he is talking about it's nice to hear this coming from a man of his stature
GREAT VIDEO !!!!
FIRST HALF MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE , CAUTION - SECOND HALF MAY MAKE YOU CONSERVATIVE . :-)
HAHA not a single liberal made it past the first half though...
As relevant now as when he delivered his remarks many years ago.
In regards to the performance of American / Colonial combatants during the Revolutionary War, Col. Cooper touched on it but didn't explain it. Possibly because he felt it was obvious, but, the Colonial Americans were not just practiced marksman. The Colonial citizen had grown accustomed to killing righteously (hunting) as a matter of survival. They not only shot better, they did not hesitate and they fired with intent.
"The Hunters of Kentucky" is a great song, referring to the Kentucky/Pennsylvania/long rifles the Americans used. Being rifled it allowed longer range, more accurate shots.
I don't know why I've missed this. Algo's go figure. When was this speech filmed? RIP Jeff Cooper.
Very impressive man; with an impressive resume. His emphasis on mental attitude, or warrior mindset is critical for self-defense. Like in asking the question, what if. If a person isn't mentally prepared, they're likely to be slow to respond to a threat. Time and time, and time again; ppl interviewed after violence typically say ... I never thought that would happen here or happen to me etc. Most ppl allow themselves to believe bad things only happen to other ppl. 🤔🤔
Most people find themselves trapped within the denial mentality because they have been conditioned to believe that the law enforcement community / government will be there for them at the moment of truth. Its a blatant lie that has been accepted into the common vernacular. Might as well believe that Superman is real.
I don't know when this speech was given, being in black and white makes it seem ancient but it would seem that the arguments used by gun grabbers to infringe on our God given rights haven't really changed.

Adorable man!
Voting isn't the only fundamental liberty. Speech and assembly are only relevant if listened to. A government that doesn't respect or fear it's citizenry will become overbearing and oppressive. The 2nd Amendment is a fundamental liberty of importance because it provides the citizenry the ability to remove an oppressive regime and provides a pause to a regime that has not yet become oppressive. The '2nd' secures the rest.
I am only seeing this particular video today, but what an INCREDIBLE, and soberingly simple explanation. THANK YOU.
Stay safe!
WOW! More common self than Ive heard in 30 years
He was right then, look at us now.
EPIC
my experience 1966, USMC warrior learned "what makes the grass grren, BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD!"
Tom Burgess Semper Fi
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson
.. Where do u find 100.000 like that?? Priceless
The issues discussed by Col Cooper are as relevant today as they were back then. Maybe more so with the new President...
Other videos from Col. Jeff Cooper, USMC {and Gunsite} ... ruclips.net/video/eNdI_CyiRZQ/видео.html ruclips.net/video/gffEqMytRtg/видео.html You might find these educational, or entertaining.
" Miculek " and I no longer prefer the Weaver Stance which Cooper was a proponent of... Note: that he did mention the isosceles stance... which current shooting contest winners prefer.
I followed Mr. Cooper when he taught something it was fact! What year did Mr. Cooper pass away?
I love my fellow Marine, Colonel Cooper. When was this recorded?
Looks like the mid 1980's?
he mentioned Bill Clinton so 1993 to 2001, i would guess on the earlier side....
3:43 He refers to the North Hollywood bank robbery of 1997, so someone after that.
I read this stuff 35 years ago. I recently found a magazine cutting . I used to think that he was a little too right wing. Nowadays we're facing so much Marxist crap. Jeff and Clint Eastwood were right..
When seconds count the cops are minutes away
Where was this at and when?
When was this?
Premonition. Citizens don’t give a darn. 2022
What case is he talking about labeled a suicide that was actually a murder?
Vince Foster
Do we know about what year this lecture was filmed?
It looks like the 1960s but he's referencing events at least as recent as the 90s.
Thanks.
Seems like the 90s.
Early '90s, leading up to the "Crime Bill" a.k.a. the Clinton Gun Ban that he or someone else referenced during his speech or the Q&A.
3:43 After the 1997 North Hollywood bank robbery.
Sorry bro... $1.98 here in Florida
WHAT YEAR WAS HE SPEAKING ??
1997 based on his comments about the North Hollywood shootout.
The video looks like it's in the 50's
Comment
WTF is a Joe Biden commercial doing in a Jeff Cooper video???
Call 9-11
If you have the opportunity - absolutely however when seconds count the police are minutes away.
Even in my 'born again' gun-friendly self, I can't go along with this. Good cops and good citizens want to kill felons is what I'm reading here. I just don't get it. You put a safety catch on a weapon for a reason. Similarly the human mind must be given procedure to ensure no misattributed discharges. I understand immediate response and the 'what if' preparedness for instantaneous action. I used to live in London and still visit frequently. So I do run 'what if' scenarios'. Possibly too many.
With each scenario I confront the question that must be addressed - what if I'm wrong? Warriors don't have to consider that, ordinary citizens and cops do. Without a firearm the answers are all easy. With a firearm, not so much.
All I'm hearing here is a group of people who feel frightened and anxious being persuaded that if they carry firearms they will *feel* better, more in control. And I'm sorry, that is not enough.
(PS one of my you tube friends was recently shot dead by her lover; drugs involved, all vey ugly. One thing for your side, there was only a gun in the home because the lover had one as a security guard. Why he didn't lock it away at work I don't know. They were idiots - and you may remember, for me the Idiot Density Function rules. )
bruce bartup Lt Col Cooper was speaking to a room full of surgeons and physicians.
yes, I did get that, thanks. And still my comment remains. but thanks for the response.
I wonder . . . would you be interested in a little mediation? A young man of somewhat alt-right persuasion and I are engaging a formal discussion on "what are the prospects for peace on youtube" we're trying for a real cooperative constructive exploration. I need at least one ideally two mediators who can be mostly inert and consult sensibly and intervene if necessary. A feminist friend called Natalie G Alford might help me stay away from feminist thought crime but as she identifies black she will fine the young man quite intimidating, I think he might respect you.
In case you don't know the problem is internet harassment directed some say by figures such as Sargon of Akkad of UK or Bearing of Australia. Harassment that recently chased Natalie off RUclips (one I spotted, not for publication - certainly not repetition to Natalie ) read "who else wants to smash this arrogant bitch in the face with a ball-pein" 20 llikes IIRC before Natallie shut her channel down. The 'joke' being that it isn't actually a threat so the people who do this stuff THINK it's legal whereas a 'reasonable person' would say intimidation 'placing a state of fear, if persistent, harassment.. her 'crime' was to sing in delight when D. Trump turned away from a campaign rally in Chicago her home town.
I'm afraid the young man I'm trying to talk to will hold that free speech is an absolute right and 'snowflakes' who don't like that can get lost, including Natalie.
The gys that do this stuff get their news from the same sources you seem to be using.
That is cyber warfare - and I let you guess which country is behind it. This is the warrior mentality turned online. Wanting to kill, preferably by words.
So this is why I worry so much about you. You are 10ft down the slippery slope, and the bottom of that slope is perfectly will educated sons of surgeons and physicists threatening black, muslim and female, trans and other people.
So that is the person I'm going to try to debate, who I have to keep off the topic of free speech, or talk gently in abstract.
Maple Leaf Up?
Internet harassment? Were you serious when you posted this months ago?
"internet harassment directed some say by figures such as Sargon of Akkad of UK or Bearing of Australia" - I think you are very much mistaken.
They didn't direct harassment to anybody. It's one thing to comment about someone to an audience (news media do that all the time), it's quite another to say "go and harass these people for me", which is not what they are doing. And indeed, Sargon of Akkad would explicitly tell his viewers not to go after any of the people he mentioned in his videos. What their viewers do in their own time is the responsibility of those viewers.
Assuming what she is saying is true and she had done no wrong, if nasty comments are enough to get her to shut down her channel, I'm not sure how she's going to handle real life. It just sounds like she made a public comment, and people made some public comments back to her. Not everyone is going to like you, and sometimes hurtful comments have some truth to it.
Free speech should be an absolute right (as long as it's not a cal to violence), because you have no idea the slippery slope speech control becomes.
He doesn't really talk much about "fear". He mentions becoming aware of an immediate threat against one's life or safety, and NOT being too afraid to react effectively. So I'm not sure how the OP could be under the impression that Cooper was talking about fearful people being ready to kill. He doesn't even say that you should get a gun to feel better about yourself. The cops who missed at close range had guns, but were too stressed out by the situation to react effectively. He says you should get a better mindset or attitude to feel better about yourself. Recall the story of the unarmed woman taking the robber's gun out of his waistband and shooting him with it. She was brave BEFORE she even acquired the gun. And THAT is what he was talking about--gun or no gun.
