  • There are some really awful VHS transfers of this 1985 VHS of Jeff Cooper on RUclips. I hope this one is less awful. :) Used an Elgato Video Capture device and a copy of a copy of a VHS source. If you enjoyed my GoPro Fisheye version, you'll appreciate this one! I learned to shoot watching this video over and over again in 1987 back when Blockbuster Video used to rent it, and I still enjoy watching it 34 years later. Unfortunately I was too poor at the time to attend one of his classes at Gunsite Raven in Arizona. This video is the next best thing? Weaver Stance FTW! For educational purposes. Safety first!

    Unlike today’s firearms RUclipsrs Jeff Cooper delivers an eloquent, point-for-point monolog in one single cut.

    He was hands down an outstanding teacher. His wording was well chosen and eloquent. No gimmicks, no arrogance. Just pure subject matter expertise coupled with calm and steady presentation skills. He set the standards…

    Hearing Jeff Cooper and then comparing it to how many contemporary firearm instructors express themselves you would be excused if you thought we were living the plot of Idiocracy.

    When I went to his class I remember how easy he worked on his 1911 slide, when I went there were 25 people I was the youngest, they were 3 doctors and believe it or not 5 lawyers they wanted to learn to handle a gun I remember they were the only ones taking notes and one of them had a voice recorder, the things I did learned I never forgot - a gun is always loaded 100% of the time period, you never point at something you don't want to destroy, when you shoot you only look at the front sight and pull the trigger -on on the 3rd one when you're pulling the trigger you don't think of anything else nothing just look at the front sights and pull, I remember Jeff kept telling us those 3 things every time we went back to the classroom after shooting or breaks

    His use of language and articulation are as precise as his gun-handling. Yet despite his very military bearing, with every word he is placing full responsibility on the shoulders of his listeners-a vital necessity when the subject is firearms. All in all, a command performance!

    0:46 "I assume that you have purchased this film in order to learn how to use a weapon which you now own." Nah, I didn't purchase this film. I'm Canadian, and we don't usually have handguns. I'm here to improve my l33t airsoft milsim skills, consider how to be a better teacher, learn about the history of the right wing in America, and think about what life in the Marine Corps does to a person.
    5:01 "We feel that you are not irresponsible or you would not be viewing this film." I got news for you about RUclips, buddy.
    Seriously, though, this a beauty. Thanks to the uploader.

    Does Col Cooper advocate a single, continuous pull of the trigger or does he take out the slack first, then start the remainder of the pull?

    • @pilotsebastian
      @pilotsebastian Год назад +1

      In other videos he does promote slack taken off while the firearm is brought up and sights are acquired.

      Both work. I'm a younger guy who prefers it over isosceles, it's simply my body's natural preference. I think lots of the blowback is people simply labeling anything even remotely 'metal and wood' as fuddlore.

      I noticed that to right off that bat, poor guys, there using a stance that was designed by a man who was shot and cradled the gun in his strong hand. Isosceles stance is the best.

    Did Jeff Cooper have a "lazy eye"? This video's quality makes it difficult to tell for sure but it looks to me like his right eye drifts away from the camera while his left eye remains on the camera.

      It's a fairly common medical condition. Younger pictures of him reflect the same malady. I'm currently binge-watching The Americans and actress Keri Russell has the same condition, which kinda drives me nuts.
