    The ending feels awfully abrupt at "they released more music" so I feel a little compelled to fill the gap between Jacquie leaving and the autobiography.
    Bananarama never split, despite the common idea that they did - Keren and Sara continued on as a duo, they had another two top 30 hits in the UK in the mid 90s ('Movin' On' and 'More More More') before leaving London Records after 11 years. Between 1988 and 1993, Siobhan had huge success with Shakespears Sister with hits such as 'You're History', 'I Don't Care' and 'Stay', which spent 8 weeks at #1 in the UK - the longest running #1 single for a girl group in the UK.
    They released a techno-influenced album called 'Ultra Violet' in most territories around the world in 1995, the UK being one of the only ones that never received a release (until 2020). In 1998 and 1999, Siobhan rejoined the band briefly - firstly to record a cover of ABBA's 'Waterloo' for a TV event and then to film a documentary for the BBC. Also in 1998, the British dance-pop group Steps covered one of their lesser known songs, 'Last Thing on My Mind' which became a top 10 hit.
    Keren and Sara then released 'Exotica', a French exclusive (and not very good) latin-y pop album in 2001. Siobhan rejoined again in 2002 briefly for a performance at G-A-Y to celebrate the group's 20th anniversary.
    In 2005, the Eurodance/disco album 'Drama' was released and featured two hit singles - 'Move in My Direction' (UK #14) and 'Look on the Floor (Hypnotic Tango)' (UK #26). They released the Hi-NRG 'Viva' in 2009 which was their first major label album release in almost twenty years followed by the 'Now or Never' EP in 2012 which was accompanied by a US tour in support of Pinktober. They also made an appearance in the ITV comedy, 'Benidorm' - which I believe was Sara and Keren's acting debut?
    In between all that, Bananarama never stopped touring between their own tours and co-headlining tours with other acts from the 80s such as Kim Wilde, Culture Club and Belinda Carlisle. In 2016, they previewed a new track ('Got to Get Away') on an Australian tour before Siobhan rejoined in 2017 for The Original Line-Up Tour. They began working on a new single together however the idea was scrapped and the project became solely about the tour. Siobhan performed with the group across the UK, Europe and America before leaving again in 2018 - which in turn led to the reunion of Shakespears Sister after a 25 year long rift with Marcella Detroit.
    In 2019 with Siobhan having left again, Bananarama released 'In Stereo' - their first full album in 10 years which became their most successful album since 'WOW!' in 1987. One of the tracks on the album was written by Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, two members of another of the UK's most successful girl groups - Sugababes.
    They performed an intimate tour across the UK in support of the album, playing almost exclusively material that they had recorded from 1992 onwards with only a couple of the big hits. They also performed at BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park and Glastonbury, the first time they'd ever performed at the festival in 2019. 2019 ended with the release of 'Live In Stereo', a live recording of their tour from earlier in the year.
    In 2020, their autobiography 'Really Saying Something' was released and as of the time of writing in January 2022, they are gearing up to celebrate 40 years of Bananarama and are currently working on their twelth studio album - their sixth as a duo.

      @Adam Robert you are correct they never split or broke up only Siobhan Fahay and Jacque left and the group continued as a duo from 1992 to present sadly they vanished from the US charts after I think 1988 or so but continued releasing albums throughout Europe to date!

    • @husamelzien5738
      @husamelzien5738 2 года назад +4

      @@SuperMarioBrosIII They did disappear from US radio after 1988 despite the exposure boost that was their 1989 North American Tour. Love, Truth and Honestly is their last single to chart on the Hot 100 and it tapped out at 89. The most common excuse given for why radio wouldn’t touch them after was because radio programmers thought the Bananas were “too dangerous.”

      @@rvegas81 I like the video too - I'm glad to see Bananarama getting some appreciation finally with the younger / my generation! I just felt it wasn't entirely fair to leave out everything that happened between 1992 and 2017 - that's 25 years of activity and five albums that was left out. The duo years haven't been their most successful, which I think they acknowledge by calling the 80s the "glory years" but they still had a couple of hits in the 90s and 00s as a duo so just skimming over it as "they kept releasing music" wasn't quite right haha.

    If you dont live in America, they never really went away as theyve always maintained a comstant presence. On a side note, I saw them live headlining a big club night event (called "Burger Queen") in Sydney back in the late 90's. At the end of their set, with the help of a drag queen named Vanessa Wagner, they hosted a "streaking contest" where audience members could win prizes if they did a nude streak across the room....it was hilarious and the girls were having the time of their lives.

    Shiv-Awn Fah-Hee as it's pronounced started dating Dave Stewart of Eurythmics after she and Karen and Sarah appeared in Eurytmics video for song Who's That Girl in 1983. Kim Wilde, trans singer Marilyn and Jackie O'Sullivan who at that time was in a Shillelagh Sisters, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston of Bucks Fizz, Kiki Dee, Hazel O'Connor, Kate Garner of Haysi Fantayzee also appeared in a video. Karen and Sarah were both guests on Dave and Siobhan's wedding in 1987. along with Annie Lennox and many others.
    Jackie left the band in 1992. because as she says she was always seen as Siobhan's replacement and never was more creatively involved in a band.
    Shiv-Awn came back first time in 1999. when they did a cover of ABBA's Waterloo for one ABBA Tribute album.
    After reuniting again in 2017. and touring with Bananarama Siobhan left again, and reformed her second band Shakespears Sister with original member Marcella Detroit in 2018.
    Karen Woodward started dating Andrew Ridgley of Wham in 1990. They broke up in 2017. but reunited in 2019.

    The name Siobhan is pronounced “Shiv-awn” it’s an Irish name.
    You failed to mention that Siobhan reunited with Sara & Keren in 1998 to record a cover of “Waterloo” and the original line up went on tour in 2017.
    Siobhan forming Shakespeare’s Sister should have been mentioned considering they got a UK & Irish number 1 which Bananarama never did surprisingly. (Not counting the compilation charity singles like Band Aid)
    Also when was Band Aid divisive? It inspired USA for Africa and is played every Xmas in the UK and has been covered 3 times.

    • @Dee_Lite263
      @Dee_Lite263 6 месяцев назад

      That's what I want to know, where was the band aid single and the whole thing divisive 🤔 it was well received, was actively encouraged and the idea for America to do their version with we are the world and both became a global phenomenon that have set the wheels in motion for other collaborations since doing charity singles and with feed the world being covered three times by other pop acts.
      Re Bananarama they were three girls next door which was their appeal but it was cruel summer that made people in the industry start taking them more seriously and Venus boosted them even further but after that their sound became very limited and their videos always set in the studio which is why I think Siobhan got bored, wasn't enjoying the new direction they were heading in so left as she was wanting to do something more grown up and wanted to do something that wasn't straight up bouncey pop hence forming Shakespears sister. She could see the writing on the wall for Bananarama so had the good sense to quit and while they did have moderate success with Jacqui after she left it was never quite the same somehow.

    The pictures often don't fit the time period you're talking about. "Shy Boy" is from 1982, not 1983. The album "Bananarama" came in 1984, not 1983 (as did "Deep Sea Skiving"). Get your facts right before doing videos like these 😉

    They got booed off stage at a night club in New York years ago ! Because they can’t sing their songs without lots of special effects 🤨

      no idea about the NYC nightclub… but yr other assertion is entirely incorrect…
      i toured with them as a duo on & off for 10 years all over - K&S always sang live and - other than a bit of reverb (echo) - never had ANY “special effects” on their mics/voices - whether headlining the sold out Tokyo Dome 50,000 people or headliners for 125,000 capacity festival in Abu Dhabi - they remained hugely popular as a duo 🌟🌟so maybe chk facts & mind what BS you repeat, yeah? they are also two of THE funniest people i hv ever had the delirious joy to work with - we cried with laughter all the time! 🥰♥️

    I was barely a teenager when they were big...I can honestly tell you, I didn't get it. It was like kid music. The only song I kinda liked was their cover of Venus. But it too was mediocre.

    You are clearly American. The Girls never left! They have been performing and recording since 1982! They just had a great 2018 album & just released a new CD a few days ago. First single from the new CD is MASQUERADE. These electronic voices need to learn how to speak English!

    Huge fan of Siobhan Fahey (Shakespears Sister) ... She is still very active and their sons! Music runs in this family.
