She is the definition of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps’’. Would Picasso want to be painted a victim? Or Poe written as a gutter drunk? They say genius is rare in females but most men only receive it posthumously. She worked on her craft with such brilliance and intent that we often say there will never be another. She could have died nameless but achieved the success her mother never did, and the love she felt was denied her because of it.

Back in school I had to do an art research project on Andy Warhol, and the famous work of Marilyn Monroe was one of the works studied. During it, so many bitchy girls went on and on about how bad she apparently was with no research to back it up - at all. Because she was far more beautiful than any of those girls could ever imagine to be and a sex symbol means she's an awful person, I guess...It took me everything to not say something.

I’ll always like Marilyn Monroe b/c of how she helped Ella Fitzgerald. Unlike many white females she was so secure and non-racist was unafraid to help black _women_ get to the same place she was. She wasn’t engaged in some kind of psychotic, underhanded sexual competition with black women they way that many of them are. They come few and far between and she was one of them. @Denver Garrison I agree. And you don't have to be a feminist to connect to, ally with, _genuinely_ befriend, and/or help other women, you just have to not try to build your self image & self worth on the degradation of other _females._ A few white women have demonstrated _through actions, not just words_ know that they can advocate for & help black women without harming themselves.
I think a lot of white women are in fear that if they open the door we'll "take over", but all I can say is that racism is not an appropriate way to get ahead & _stay_ ahead in life. It's a house of sand built on a shaky foundation of evil, lies, & violence. *It's unsustainable & it will end.* It also takes a toll on people & makes _both_ black ppl & white ppl fearful & hyper-vigilant. When you open the door and do the right thing, you don't have to be that fearful or hyper-vigilant b/c you know you're at least trying not to participate in, maintain, or _add to_ a evil, ugly, & grievous wrong. Sometimes you have to let things that served you go so you can get something better. Racism is one of those things. It needs to be let go & the resulting lies, imbalances, & spiritual warfare that came from it need to be acknowledged & rectified.
