      @@TommyCook-bl8yi I think it just takes reading the lyrics. A lot of popular songs nowadays are very surface-level and don't really have much meaning to them which personally doesn't feel as good. Idk if you've seen it but Jack Stauber made a really haunting animated short movie with various songs in it that delves into the subject of childhood abuse and how it can damage a child. To me, that's a good example of his storytelling.

    • @TommyCook-bl8yi
      @TommyCook-bl8yi 9 месяцев назад +11

      @@joxii__ tbf that songs about childhood trauma are pretty obvious and much more on the nose. This song is too obtuse, and wether its intentional or not, its not a great example of story telling as the ambiguity allows for thousands of interpretations.
      Good story telling is one that can still maintain levels of ambiguity while still putting up “road signs” that let the reader/listener come to the right conclusion eventually.
      A true artist hates when people misinterpret their work, trust me.

    There 8s a moment in time that feels like years when you start taking anti anxiety/depression meds when you feel numb.. it's like you feel nothing and its a hard tome, but keep taking them, it takes about a year for them to have any real effect but once you past the sick feeling, hopelessness and then the numb feeling you one day realised that you are smiling...its mad, you are suddenly able to keep that happy feeling for longer then before and it fills you with this warmt.

    I always interpreted it as being about addiction/calling an addiction or emergency hotline, since a lot of his music is about drug abuse/addiction (Hope, Coffee, and those are just off the top of my head there are more). Especially the second verse seems to be about someone waking up after being hospitalized for an overdose ("no flatline, what were you scared about?") and the "I insist somebody will die and I hate hoping / someday I will go back outside and see her okay" is pretty relatable to those of us with loved ones going through addiction, knowing they will likely day and hoping to see them well again. During the ringtones at one point there's an operator that says "let me try again" and at the end there's a dial tone with no answer, indicating that the hotline missed her call and tried to reach her back, but was too late. I also respect the interpretation that its about depression and suicide because a lot of his songs touch on that as well

    Jack tends not to confirm any meanings behind his songs. Some have pretty apparent meanings, but most don’t. Like with most of his songs, There is no confirmed meaning behind this song, but there are many different theories and interpretations!
    I’ve been a big fan of Jack since about 2016 :) He’s a fantastic artist, and if you do enjoy the darker themes in his work, then I highly recommend checking out his short film called Opal. Jack made for Adult Swim, and it’s an absolutely stunning stop-motion film and album about a young girl, and well, I won’t say any more as to not spoil it, but I highly recommend giving it a watch. It’s available to watch for free here on RUclips.

    For those who don’t know, the song is about a depressed lady (husband trying to help her)but her mental state is horrible (telling her to do it) so she calls a suicide hotline but they put her on hold and hung up many times but by the time they got back to her, she had already committed suicide so basically the song is the lady’s husband trying to cope with his loss
    Long story short:
    Depressed lady,called suicide hotline,declined on her,called back,she committed,husband trying to cope.

      Technically that's probably not what it's about, but there is definently a reason people jump to that. The harsh cuts in the video and song as well as the contrasting visuals and lyrics vs tone do very much give a manic and dark feel, that wouldn't be out of place for someone on a suicide hotline.

      He's also just really good at setting a tone with stylistic and pacing choices. Like this song for example, is unsettling not only because of whatever deeper meaning you might get from it but also the abrupt and harsh cuts cuts to static, the cheery upbeat tone contrasted with the talk of pills, and death with the addition of the visual aspects of the warped claymation and quickly cutting backgrounds.
      Idk this is kind of a rant but people never talk about this part of Jack's stuff.

    But she keeps getting pun on hold and eventually k!ll's herself. In the song you hear bangs, that is meant to indicate the sound of a gun. When the song ends, you will hear ringing, this is either her calling the hotline, or the hotline trying to call her back, but they can't because she's already dead.
