this singer is amazing...Daphnie Ruben-Vega voice is absolutely the most expressive. she emotes & colors every word & phrase...her crescendos are brilliant. her version touches me so deeply. i adore her.
I Love this movie because its one of the most heartfelt amazing stories ever to be put on film. I love all of the songs from the movie but this song stand out and touches everyone...its a good one
i think Rosario does an amazing job! every actor has their own interpretation of how the character is suppose to be and sound Daphne did an awesome job yes but she had months years to work on it Rosario had maybe a few months to learn everything and her voice has it's own magical sound to it wishful almost maybe softer but not weak..like she's remembering out loud no need to shout it out..anyway love this movie and loved seeing it live on Broadway miss this show..great video.
I moved out of my bf's house, and I couldn't find my RENT DVD, I haven't heard or seen any RENT in months.... It's so good to hear without you again. This movie has been so inspirational to me... I can't understand for a second how so many people I know don't like it.
These lyrics....mean some much to me. The love of my life is all the way in Aussie, and I know that even though they say life goes on, I'd die without him. Such a beautiful moving song.
I'm crying right now because I'm thinking about my life without RENT on Broadway.I wish I could go see it.I've never seen the play but I heard the soundtrack with the OBC and fell in love with it.I know plays can't stay on broadway forever but they could've given it like 20 MORE YEARS or 5.This is a great show and alot of people like myself won't get the chance to experience it live on BROADWAY.DAMN!
Just finished vid and was obviously to star! I want to thank the people who made this video. Looked like it belonged in the movie, well done! Thank you
that was amazing! this is the best collaboration of clips from any movie or show i've ever seen. i never really liked this song until i heard it with this video. i like how u put the original cast recording with the movie. wonderful! I loved every second!
I love this song. not a whole lot of movies/ musicals can make me cry. However this movie, actually did and this song, along with No Day but Today are part of the reasons. I LOVE THIS SONG its beautiful.
I love this song and the part when Roger comes in and they start singing together gives me chills. This song makes me wanna cry though for some reason. :(
wow, that just overtook me and made me cry. I saw the movie first, then I heard Daphney. I didn't like her at first because she wasn't what I was used too. After a few listens to her singing "Out tonight" I got used to it and now I like them both. If you're used to one version, it's going to take a while to get used to someone different. just give it a chance.
god I love this movie. It's the best movie I've ever seen I swear. It makes you think and you realize that at the end of the day, all that matters is love. It'll get you through. ... Okay, now I have to go buy this movie. See yah:)
What a play What a movie What a soundtrack This ranks with the greats Rent can be said in the company of Andrew Lloyd Webber's great works .... Jonathan Larson we miss you , we love you thank you for your legacy which will live on and be a testament to Alphabet City and the 1980's. PEACE
This song always make me cry.Reminds me when I lived in Manhattan.(tought moments) I used to sing it with my ex girlfriend. But a lot of nice memories too.I hate NY but love RENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All people have different tones, and different ways of singing. Not everyone will love a particular voice. I think this is a fantastic version, and so is the other one. Now start spending less time slagging people off, and more time noticing the positive things!
AHHH. DAPHNE. It is so painfully rare that you find a video with the original Mimi instead of Rosario. D: I like both, but I really love Daphne. Nobody likes her 'cause of her gruffness, but I think she has a gorgeous voice, and she's the original Mimi--this is really how they wanted her voice to sound. On the other hand, Rosario did spectacular in the movie. Her voice is so... angelic, really. Great video. ♥ --Judo
The singer on this is Daphne Rubin-Vega, the actress that originated the role of Mimi on Broadway. She couldn't be in the movie cuz she was preggers. Her voice is distinct and has aged with even more rasp and edge to it. She's all over youtube -- just search. Adam's voice was and is something we can sink down into and be warmed.
Rosario was my first Mimi and for that I will always love her. But the casting directors called Daphne "the real deal" when they first saw her and they were right. Her voice was totally true to the character. Mimi is a crazy junkie dancer and she should sound like she has been through some rough shit. Her voice SHOULD sound gravelly, but also strong and sensual and vulnerable. And for that Daphne pwns Rosie :-)
That was pretty well done. Some of the scenes were a bit dark, but there's not much you can really do about that. I enjoyed that. I was really hoping it would end with angel in Mark's film, like it does at the end of the movie rent
This song is played a big part in Daphne getting the part. In her audition she asked what they wanted in this this song. "Make me cry." was the response. I know Daphne's "Without You" is a real tear jerker. I can see why she got the original part.
mistyplayer365, they have two movie versions on DVD. There is the 2005 movie adaptation, and the live performance called "Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway." Hope that helps you when you look for the movie. :3
im glad u used the song from the stage version, the stage version is a million times better than the movie. but its still a great movie. =) good video.
WhiteDragon, the Mimi from the movie production of Rent is not the Mimi from the original broadway cast. Daphne Rubin-Vega was the original Mimi. And as wickedmiltification said, the broadway show is still running in the Nederlander Theatre on West 41st street in NYC.
I wasn't previously aware of the musical until it came out on video, so i actually have a more keen sense and liking of Rosario's voice. I agree the original singer is good though, she is very talented.
Daphne's voice is incredible, and the rawness of it is what makes her Mimi. Mimi is supposed to be a wild, lustful girl who has been burned in the past. Rosario's voice is too innocent and bubbly. Daphne's scratchy, accented voice is perfect for the role.
@bijouxzane yes, the pregnancy and also because the director and Daphne said herself that she was way too old to convincingly play a 19-yr old. All of the other characters are pretty ageless, but Mimi's...it's known that she's very young, so that's why.
This is the only song in which I think Daphne is better than Rosario- I don't know exactly what I like about it, but this version just gives me chills. I love it!
Love it. But just to let you know the version you have here is the original broadway cast version this isn't Rosario Dawson singing its the original Mimi
Mimi and Benny did not get back together at least in the movie. If you look at the deleted scenes there's one where Benny tells Roger they never got back together, he was just being there for an old friend
@Kcastillo89 i think that it sounds great for the character. it sheds new light on the show. especially because she is a drug addict and a smoker. i love her style :) but thats just my opinion
So, it appears we're seeing video from the movie with Rosario Dawson, but hearing music from the Broadway cast with Daphne Rubin-Vega? That's pretty strange. I saw RENT with the original Broadway cast, and, of course, the movie. I think both women bring a lot to the part.

Such a beautiful moving song.
Love Daphne. She was amazing as Mimi. I watched her perform four times. She played a perfect NYC addict. Such a likable character.

I've seen the movie loads of times, and I cry every time.
that was amazing! this is the best collaboration of clips from any movie or show i've ever seen. i never really liked this song until i heard it with this video. i like how u put the original cast recording with the movie.
wonderful! I loved every second!
I love this song. not a whole lot of movies/ musicals can make me cry. However this movie, actually did and this song, along with No Day but Today are part of the reasons. I LOVE THIS SONG its beautiful.
I totally agree with you.
Daphne is breathtakingly fantastic as Mimi.
im literially getting goosebumps and chills fromt this movie, like really, rent is not one of the best things, THE best thing that brodway ever seen
I love the words.. The way it says life goes on with out the person..
I cried when I saw this...it is very beautiful.
I love this song and the part when Roger comes in and they start singing together gives me chills. This song makes me wanna cry though for some reason. :(
Yeah, I acknowledge that they are different. I like them both. It's nice to hear it in a different way.
nice song I didn't know rosario can sing she has a nice voice
wow, that just overtook me and made me cry.

i love the movie, and the play is great, im really glad i live on long island, easy way to get to NYC.. deffinatly go see it
All people have different tones, and different ways of singing. Not everyone will love a particular voice. I think this is a fantastic version, and so is the other one. Now start spending less time slagging people off, and more time noticing the positive things!

Beautiful song! I cry every time. ♥
Awwsome ! :) Love the musical, the film, the song - and your video !

I love this song... it reminds me of lost friends... and love. I almost always cry when I hear it or play it on the piano.
This is Daphne Rubin-Vega, the original Mimi from the Broadway Musical. She was hand picked by Jonathon Larson for her raw and emotional voice. :3
i loved this musical! its baced on real life and real problems. Go rent!
I love this song, makes me go all tearful everytime, i think Daphne did a good job on this personally although i think Rosario is just amazing.
Rosario was my first Mimi and for that I will always love her. But the casting directors called Daphne "the real deal" when they first saw her and they were right. Her voice was totally true to the character. Mimi is a crazy junkie dancer and she should sound like she has been through some rough shit. Yes, that's definitely Daphne. That's the song from the OBC recording used for that video :)
I cry during this song every time. I adore it.
i love love love this movie !!!
I love how you used the original version of the song, good job :)
That was pretty well done. Some of the scenes were a bit dark, but there's not much you can really do about that.

im glad u used the song from the stage version, the stage version is a million times better than the movie. but its still a great movie. =)
good video.
I saw this on Broadway... & I cried my eyeballs out. :(
WhiteDragon, the Mimi from the movie production of Rent is not the Mimi from the original broadway cast. Daphne Rubin-Vega was the original Mimi. And as wickedmiltification said, the broadway show is still running in the Nederlander Theatre on West 41st street in NYC.
so sad. it makes me cry every time.
I think they are both good and they are both good with the emotion in the song
I love this movie!!!!
istringy - That's because its the Broadway version playing, not the movie version. It's Adam Pascal and Daphne Rubin-Vega as Mimi.
I wasn't previously aware of the musical until it came out on video, so i actually have a more keen sense and liking of Rosario's voice. I agree the original singer is good though, she is very talented.
....just chills.
Daphne's voice is incredible, and the rawness of it is what makes her Mimi. Mimi is supposed to be a wild, lustful girl who has been burned in the past. Rosario's voice is too innocent and bubbly. Daphne's scratchy, accented voice is perfect for the role.
i love this video!
You can watch the live version right here on RUclips. Type in RENT: 2008 Broadway Performance. It's in parts tho.
such a sad song! but it is stll so pretty!
Such a great song
This song is where I always cry =(
i love this song....even though its really sad
the movie was awesome!!!
@bijouxzane yes, the pregnancy and also because the director and Daphne said herself that she was way too old to convincingly play a 19-yr old. All of the other characters are pretty ageless, but Mimi's...it's known that she's very young, so that's why.
I love it.
omg that made me cry!
omfg i cry everytime too
I love that movie
I LOVE HER VOICE...not all mimi's sound good like this
i cry every time... :(
Damn good, Damn good.
This is my favorite song. It's so sad :'(
@andalite27 why should you feel alone. theres nothing wrong with it, and your right angle is awesome.
It's actually Daphne Ruben-Vega, the original Mimi ^^
hi..the video is perfect...like the musical thanks
I love this song but i can't remeber were it came in the show??????????????
unique :) And I agree...
My school did da rent musical it was awsome
... notice how its daphnie singing, and the comments with the most likes are about how awesome rosario is..... T.T
*hug of not-alone-either-ness*
Yeah. It is Daphne Rubin-Vega...she played Mimi orginally.
I like this version too...
this is so kool
This is the only song in which I think Daphne is better than Rosario- I don't know exactly what I like about it, but this version just gives me chills. I love it!
Is this the Broadway version soundtrack over the movie's scenes? It's really nice ^^
this is daphne singing but the video from the movie love it
Wow Shes....wow!
Love it. But just to let you know the version you have here is the original broadway cast version this isn't Rosario Dawson singing its the original Mimi
she sounds good
No, this is rosario dawson's voice from the movie. I recognize the voice fro mthe movie soundtrack
Yeah Fredi Walker. She played Joanne in the Original Broadway Cast but wasn't in the movie.
I really like this movie.and roger & mimi make a very nice couple
daphne-
someone or other sings this.
from the obc. :]
this audio is not rosario dawson.. this is a different version from the movie...
