Mark sings so brilliantly in this song, I just can't get enough of his voice, really. I especially like when he sings "Are you insane? There's so much to care about; there's me there's Mimi." and I love the emotion when Roger says "Poor baby."
The director (Chris Columbus) didn't want to take it out, but he felt it worked better without it, mostly due to the fact that the whole film Roger & Mark have lots of conversations that involve talking, but this is the first scene where they are singing a conversation. They tested the film with this scene intact & they noted that the audiences began to lose interest. Personally I love this scene/song & feel it fleshes out the story a bit more.
When Collins sings "so please for my sake" I just want to go give him and roger a huge hug. Adam plays Roger so well in this part. It breaks my heart when he starts to cry.
omg! this song is so sad, it always makes me cry, I think all the situations are so hard to understand when you live them yourself, it happens to me, I had to say "Goodbye love" to the only person i have really loved, Sniff
i like totally love that someone made the full version. who cares that it switches, it does it at the dark part so it looks really cool, and good:)(: u left out one little part though, when it's stil light, they talk a tiny bit before the dark part. it's also a deleted scence though:)(:
Just reading how so many of us respond so intensely to this scene is moving. Love it, especially "Mimi's gotten thin. Mimi's running out of time. And you're running out the door." Sigh.
i like it when he said poor baby. but mark and roger looking like they are going to cry. mimi is my fav she has the most power and deep voice and with roger tooo and so dose mark. i love it when mark saids mimmi still loves him and really that she is weak i cry.
That and it's easier to see the pain on Mark's face when Rodger lays into him in the movie than the play clips. That part always gets to me, as much as I lover Roger, he doesn't get that it has to be harder on Mark because he's going to be left behind.
They really should have left this and Halloween in the movie. You can really feel the pain that Mark feels when Roger is telling him, because basically it's just someone saying what Mark has been feeling. Everything is much harder for Mark than for the rest of them, they all go through this shit but they have eachother. Mimi has Roger, Maureen has Joanne, Angel has Collins, but Mark has no one. Mark has to go through everything alone, and no one seems to appreciate how lonely he is. I love Mark.
good edit. the only thing i think you should add is mark walking on the street to the loft because when you cut to the loft its kinda like 'wait..what just happened?' other than that nice.
i love this scene, i forgot they cut it out of the movie. but i saw this on broadway a few months ago when adam and anthony came back for a couple months in the summer, and watching this is scene was amazing. i dont know seeing them like fight or whatever was awesome since they were orignal cast.
i love this songg. i mean like even just the first partt. exspecially when mimi is all "he was the same way, he was always, run away, hit the road, don't commit your full of shitt" :D
I love that too. "I guess you have the right to know, you just paid for the funeral of the person who killed your dog." "I know, I always hated that dog." lol
If you watch the audio commentary, you'll understand why they took it out. They were gonna leave it in there but they thought the audience was 'emotionally drained' by the time "Goodbye Love" plays. They were sad they had to but, they don't regret it...
In the second part of "Goodbye Love," Mark is supposed to say "For someone who's always been let down, who's heading out of town?" To which Roger responds "For someone who longs for a community of his own, who's with his camera...alone?" And then after "I'll call" Mark should say "I hate the fall." Those are actually my favorite lines in the song.
in our musical were doing this song. i dont play as mimi, but i sing this song alot and the girl who does sing her part in our musical,is really good.wish usluck, hope its good
To liseyBear0713 You get "Goodbye Love" as one song when you buy it. It has the first part at Angel's funeral and the mark/rodger/mimi conflict part. It's a deleted scene in the movie, like the song Halloween, which you can also buy =) Amazing song, amazing movie, amazing musical. This song gives me chills and makes me cry.
where can you see the edited version? it's not on the dvd, is it? i really love the second part, when roger and mark are singing....it's all so sad :'(
Man this is a great movie with a lot of meaning behind it... anyone else notice they say everyone's last name except Rogers.... I actually took the time to go through the movie to see if i could figure it out.. its Roger Davis... You can see it on the Poster he rips off the wall for the fire during "Rent"
This song makes me cry every time I listen to it, but it's so good!! Rosario Dawson is so convincing as she sings the last part :( I love Rent! It's awesome. If anyone hasn't seen the movie yet, there's no time like the present. Go hire it!! Now!!!
I can not believe that they did not put this in the movie. Although i can understand that it would take away from the end of the movie cause it was so much more powerful then the last scene of RENT.
Yeah I know. I think the closest he gets is Halloween, but they cut that out of the movie also. They also cut out the parts that make you like Benny also. I love the fact that he pays for Angel's funeral despite the fact that Angel killed Evita.
Weird, it's missing "I hate the fall," after "I'll call," and Mark saying "HEY! For someone who's always let down, who's getting out of town?" and Roger biting back, "For someone who longs for a community of his own, who's with his camera, alone?"
I love this song! Though, I think they needed to explain everyonces situation at this point in the movie a little more. Is Mimi dating Benne now? Did Maureen break up with Joanne?
This is my second favorite song in the movie and I wish they has put in the entire thing, but I understand why Chris cut it. I love Roger so much. The pain and hurt is just so evident on his face. This movie would have sucked had the originals not been in it.
well that's part of the reason why he left. She tried to stop and he tried to help her but she kept sneaking away to get some plus the accusations etween Mimi and Benny wasn't helping either. I admit that he shouldn't have ran from his problems, but sometimes you need to get away think and in the end he realize what he really wanted and went back.
they cut Goodbye love down a lot. It used to be a longer song, but they cut it for the theatrical version down to the funeral instead of going back to the loft.
i think that this movie means alo of different things to different people, to me it is alot about friendship and self forgivness. friends are the family we get to choose.
i think one of the reasons they took some of the scenes out(goodbye love, Halloween, etc.) ir because the movie was already 3 hours long. which it pretty long for a movie unless it's like lord of the rings or something. but i wouldn't have cared if they made it longer. i love this song
I thought about it but it wouldn't have worked because it fades before you even see mark walking to the coffin and in Goodbye Love he's already standing there. Now if they showed him walking more in Halloween and then showed him walking towards the coffin at the start of Goodbye Love, then it would have fit better, but to see him walking in such a short time and then just all of sudden stand there in such a short time just doesn't look right.
that's a deleted scene. irishman said there were deleted lines. There's no delelted lines. If anything, all they did was change it from 3rd person to 1st person.
Mark sings so brilliantly in this song, I just can't get enough of his voice, really.
I especially like when he sings "Are you insane? There's so much to care about; there's me there's Mimi."
and I love the emotion when Roger says "Poor baby."
"Mimi's gotten thin. Mimi's running out of time!"
Brings tears to my eyes.
this is like one of the best parts of RENT and they cut it out! i love it!!! so awesome!
mellow power!
i always start laughing when anthony says, "come on guys, chill!" idk why. i just think it's so funny
this brings tears to the eye even without seen neither the musical nor the movie!
rosario @ the end is so good, it makes me just about cry every time
Thanks so much for posting this. Rent is awesome. I especially like the bit with Mimi, and the one between Mark and Rodger before he leaves.
" who said I was talking to you" love it
i just got chills watching this scene
The director (Chris Columbus) didn't want to take it out, but he felt it worked better without it, mostly due to the fact that the whole film Roger & Mark have lots of conversations that involve talking, but this is the first scene where they are singing a conversation.

i cry everytimeee.
i cry atleast three times throughout this movie every time. it jsut has so much deep meaning, and really makes you think and feel.
Thanks for the upload!! This songs gives me the chills it's such a passionate and sad song but it's AMAZING! So much emotion!!!
thanks so much for posting this! I love not having to flip between videos. I love this whole number.
omg! this song is so sad, it always makes me cry, I think all the situations are so hard to understand when you live them yourself, it happens to me, I had to say "Goodbye love" to the only person i have really loved, Sniff
The part when collins is begging the others to stop fighting... that brings tears to my eyes... so emotional :(
Roger's reply and following verse is my favorite. This song really sums up how the movies undertones were meant to be understood.
I'm so teary eyed right now. What a great emotional scene.
i like totally love that someone made the full version. who cares that it switches, it does it at the dark part so it looks really cool, and good:)(: u left out one little part though, when it's stil light, they talk a tiny bit before the dark part. it's also a deleted scence though:)(:
the middle part is so powerful....geezus. ive watched it like 85 times.
great editing.
This song is really amazing. It really has a lot of emotion in it. The saddest part of this song is when she says "Goodbye Love, Hello Disease".
Great editing! I don't know why they would take this out of the movie, it's amazing.
Yeah. I kinda envy the fact that he goes through it without completely breaking down.
Just reading how so many of us respond so intensely to this scene is moving.
Love it, especially "Mimi's gotten thin. Mimi's running out of time. And you're running out the door."
Sigh.
i get goosebumps whenever i hear this.
This song makes me cry every time i hear it.
i like it when he said poor baby.
but mark and roger looking like they
are going to cry. mimi is my fav she has the most power and deep voice and with roger tooo and so dose mark. i love it when mark saids mimmi still loves him and really that she is weak i cry.

freakin a i cant believe that its a deleted scene! i love this song!!!
oooooooooooooo y ddi they take it out the movie thats probably 1 of the best scenes! wow tnx 4 posting did u get it off the dvd or somehting>?
Goodbye love is one of my favourite songs, I was so pissed when it wasn't in the final cut...God bless deleted scenes?
I have never seen this part!! ah!! ^^
Wonderful!!
I just watched this for the first time the other day after watching the movie. It made me cry so much. I really wish they kept it in the movie.
i always feel so bad for mark when roger says (or sings whatever) those things about him, anthony has such a cute look on his face...
I love this part! *Cries*
such a sad song..but i love it soo much
i love this song
I LOVE This song!!!
i dont understand why they didnt include the whole song in the movie , they took away the most important scene in the movie IMO
Why is it I can listen to this on the soundtrack just fine, but I see it in this format and I'm crying? *blubbers* *huggles them all*
True, Mark is my fave character now.
this movie always makes me cry
I agree, this would have been the most tear jerkimg moment IMO
I love the music, but I saw the play and it kicked the movie's butt! LOVED this Though!!!!!
no wonder i didnt remember this scene i luv it its so good ur right they shouldnt have removed it
from angels funeral to the end of the movie, i cry
.i really wish the whole thing was in the movie
greatest song ever
greatest movie ever
This song makes me cry....
Yeah. Plus there's the fact that Mark always has to witness all of the crap that everyone else goes through. It's kinda sad.
ok, amzing song and it makes me cry every time... love this movie.. my frends dad directed it

exspecially when mimi is all
"he was the same way, he was always, run away, hit the road, don't commit your full of shitt"
:D
i love it x3
His name is Adam Pascal. He also has an album out, so if you really like his voice you may want to check it out. Maybe try his fan website?
I love that too.
"I guess you have the right to know, you just paid for the funeral of the person who killed your dog."
"I know, I always hated that dog."
lol
they so shoulda put this in the movie
I love this.
Probably because it's more touching when you actually SEE how it happens. More dramatic.... easier to relate to.
If you watch the audio commentary, you'll understand why they took it out. They were gonna leave it in there but they thought the audience was 'emotionally drained' by the time "Goodbye Love" plays. They were sad they had to but, they don't regret it...

me too i was mad when i saw the movie and it wasnt in it cause i love the play
I love Rosario in this scene.
She really does look sick.
in our musical were doing this song. i dont play as mimi, but i sing this song alot and the girl who does sing her part in our musical,is really good.wish usluck, hope its good
I wish they wouldn't have deleted this scene it would have made me bawl so much!
To liseyBear0713

i really love the second part, when roger and mark are singing....it's all so sad :'(
Awsome Movie!
good and sad!!!
sniff, sniff,
collins is holding angel's drum sticks
*tear*
can you get the two songs on the cd??
or are they one song?
and does it still show up in the movie??
Man this is a great movie with a lot of meaning behind it... anyone else notice they say everyone's last name except Rogers.... Make me cry every time, I love this movie soooooo much...
~N~

yeah but the one in the movie is cut short, the song you are listening to at the moment is the one from the Musical
When Roger is telling Mark what he thinks*
I so agree
wow. they really made rosario look sick. i love this scene. its soo sad.
she dies for like 2 minutes then comes back to life.
im mad that the this song or the other goodbye love is not on the soundtrack! i got it just for these songs!!! :(
This is my second favorite song in the movie and I wish they has put in the entire thing, but I understand why Chris cut it. I love Roger so much. The pain and hurt is just so evident on his face. This movie would have sucked had the originals not been in it.

the part after they say I cant believe this is goodbye and sort of faed into the next clip or scene.
What happened to both Benny and Mark shouting at them to chill? Did they actually cut that in the film too?
