  • Is Ko Chang the best island in Thailand? This travel guide explores the top 5 reasons why you should visit in 2019.
Koh Chang is known as Elephant Island (named because of its elephant shaped headland) and is Thailand’s third largest island after Phuket and Samui. From jungle covered mountain peaks to sweeping bays, great waterfalls to flourishing coral reefs, beach huts to luxury resorts, Koh Chang has plenty to offer for everyone.

List of things to do featured in this video:
0:45 - How to get to Koh Chang from Bangkok
Explaining how the island’s location makes it ideal for anybody looking for a less crowded destination. It is easy to get the minibus and ferry from the city.
1:19 - Ko Chang National Park
Koh Chang is part of the Mu Ko Chang National Park. Despite the recent increase in tourism, it has retained its rugged character.
1:33 - Salakphet Mangrove Walkway / Abandoned Boardwalk
A famous abandoned tourist attraction hidden within the mangroves. It is actually rumoured to be under renovations again, so it may not be abandoned for long!
    2:18 - Khlong Phlu Waterfall
A popular tourist spot, this tranquil waterfall with a large swimming hole is located in the jungle.
    3:00 - Kai Bae Waterfall
Koh Chang’s ‘Secret’ waterfall, which is a tough 30-40 minute hike form Kai Bae beach. Not be taken lightly!
4:13 - Best Beaches on Ko Chang
An overview of the 4 main beaches on the island.
    4:23 - White Beach
The most developed beach on Koh Chang with lots of restaurants, bars and a beautiful long beach.
    4:43 - Khlong Prao Beach
A small number of accommodations, restaurants & bars border this scenic, sandy beach with calm water. We stayed here at the Klong Prao Resort.
5:15 - Trying Durian for the First Time
Me and my Mum try the world’s smelliest fruit.
    5:37 - Kai Bae Beach
Serene white-sand beach with scenic views, canoeing & sunbathing, plus nearby food & drink options.
    6:07 - Lonely Beach
Beach popular with backpackers featuring white sand, palm trees, calm water & a festive atmosphere.
6:37 - Authentic Side of Koh Chang
We took a day trip around the island stopping at local fishing villages.

Yay for your mum coming to visit! The ferry across looks super fun. You totally sold it to me by saying there were fewer tourists. I love how it's a national park. I agree, the abandoned board walk looks epic. I'm starting to get the impression you love all things abandoned? Knowing my luck, I'd manage to get my foot stuck through one of those holes, haha. So did you visit it with a guide? At first I was like oh £5 doesn't seem too bad for a waterfall then I saw the next one was 50p. Yep, it does seem quite expensive now.

Beautifully edited video as usual. This time we don't agree with your message in the video though. Koh Chang is One of Thailand's most visited islands and lost its charm many years ago. Even I 2006 it was getting destroyed by tourism. Thats when I visited the first time (Malin). We both visited again in 2017.
In the south of Thailand you'll find islands with no cars, no ATMs and 7/11 but even those are soon to be destroyed. They just installed the first atm on our favourite island on the west coast.
We call Koh Chang, lite Phuket 😊
We're glad you found some quiet spots . Thanks for sharing! 🙏

    • @OneShotAdventures
      @OneShotAdventures  5 лет назад

Thanks guys, glad you liked the edit! Koh Chang is definitely not an undeveloped island and I hope I didn't give that impression. That's why I compared it to the "big 4" islands in the south (Phuket, Samui, Phangan, Tao), rather than any remote/undiscovered places. It gets a fraction of the tourist numbers per year that any of those most famous islands have, while having similar tourist infrastructure - which is what I wanted to highlight 😊

Totally with you on not riding elephants. 🙌 It's plain cruel, but honestly, I don't understand why people think that it is even enjoyable.
