    I used to have a mate who was chief engineer for Morgan though because of his girth, didn't travel in the cars so perhaps this new model might accommodate him!! Oh, and he also had a small 2 seater plane which he could not fit-in either! God Bless you Maurice, the man who liked oysters so much he would have a plate of them on the dock at the ferry terminal whilst awaiting loading Morgans on the way back from testing at Le Man - then he would move on to the next oyster stall to try their offerings and so on until all oyster vendors had gratefully received his approbation! 6 plates I believe was his record.

    • @IanObzi
      @IanObzi 5 лет назад +8

      You can’t compare the two, and if you tried to in a conventional way it wouldn’t tell the full story. How can you quantify how a car makes you feel? How can you quantify emotion and passion and heritage and character and that incredible feeling inside that tells you you’re driving something really special?
      Computers and robots can’t make cars like this, yes Morgans have bits that don’t fit perfectly and sometimes they’re frustrating but my god you love them. You might really like your BMW, Merc or Audi but you’ll never love it, not in the way you will love your Morgan.

    Beautiful car - I've never got used to that Aero look, and it will no doubt uphold Morgan's legendary reputation for performance and handling. As a lifelong Morgan enthusiast I'm resigned to the fact that flat rads went out in the 1950's, but I can't help thinking that the demise of sliding pillar front suspension is taking things a little too far. Unfortunately prices have now risen to such a level that a new car is the preserve of the very wealthy, so I'll just have to live on the memories of the three I have been fortunate enough to own.

It should be interesting if Morgan keeps the amazing cracks and pops that the straight six offers when downshifting and upshifting respectively.

    • @Dragoneer
      @Dragoneer 5 лет назад

      Yeah, how would that even function?

    • @Ryukachoo
      @Ryukachoo 5 лет назад

      Not difficult, the biggest problem is taking the torque without shredding
      A lot of classic car EV conversions keep the stick shift, it works similar but you just don't need to use the clutch in first, and you can leave it in higher gears all the time if you want

    • @Dragoneer
      @Dragoneer 5 лет назад

      Ryukachoo There is really no need for a gear box in an electric vehicle as the motors would send immediate maximum torque to the wheels for optimum acceleration. But it probably could be done for the driving experience, it’s just quite pointless in terms of performance. Yeah, you’d theoretically get more torque at higher speeds, but an electric motor already has a _lot_ of torque and a subtle drop off (at a much higher speed than you’d expect) when compared to a combustion engine and given that is sent instantly to the wheels, there’s really no point if you’re looking to better performance...

  • @vissitorsteve

    In my youthful years, the early 70's, I bought a Morgan +4 in British Racing green. I was in love with the styling, the leather belts over the hood, the tires (Dunlap 'Doggie Bones they were called), the spoke wheels...all of it. It came with an Austen-Healey engine. At the time it cost $2,000 which was expensive back then, but not exorbitant. In any case, I also loved the quirkiness of it. The fact that although it had an electric starter motor, the car could be started with a hand crank which was just under the hood. I also loved that in the owner's manual said, "Periodically check and tighten all bolts." Given that the chassis was made of wood, that seemed to make sense. :) Sadly, mechanically, it was one issue after the other. I had to order a new tonneau cover from the factory in Malvern-Links, in England while I lived in California.
    The major problem though was over heating. I took it to several mechanics and none could find the problem, despite me buying a new radiator and most every other cooling part.
    In the end, after a couple of years, I gave up and sold it to a Morgan dealer in San Francisco, (even though it was no longer running), for $1,600, which at the time, I considered a great deal. Of course now I wish I'd hung on to it as I sill love the styling, not to mention it's vast increase in value. :-)

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 5 лет назад

      Peder Hansen for the Miata, you can go two routes. Mine is just plugging up the power steering lines, but people have also gone a step further and disassembled the rack and filled it with grease to replace the fluid. I love the feel currently so I haven’t bothered taking it the next step. For newer cars it’s not so simple though. Electric only racks might be able to simply be “unplugged” but that might freak out the electronics. Electro-hydraulic units could be just as complex but also have issues with plugging of power steering lines etc.

It makes no sense to buy a Z4, Cayman or Supra as a weekend car (or a 911), it just too normal. This is just the business.

    What I have a hard time understanding is the Morgan 3 wheeler powered by the S&S V-Twin is approved for sale in the US but the Speed8 and Speed6 are not. The same goes for the Caterham. The exception to this is they are ordered as a kit car, which is quite a puzzling to me.

    I am curious to know, how do you go about checking the oil level in this car? The B58 doesn't use a dipstick. It uses electronic sensors which relay the info to the BMW iDrive system. In the case of the Supra, it also uses BMWs iDrive. But this car has a basic cabin. The only thing I can think of is if they do what Rolls-Royce did in the 90s and use a button that you press to check the oil level and it uses the fuel gauge to tell you.
