Can you beat Dark Souls 1 with only the Dragon Head Stone? Let's find out.

Thanks again to my bud Spencer Smith, who wrote the final music piece.
He's written a few other pieces for the channel, and writes D&D-inspired music and other songs as well!

As to your question at the start of the video: Britain. Yes the country of Britain more specifically a man by the name of Matthew Sylo Tallett. And do I need a hug? Yes, always.
Loved the video man I also can't wait for salt and sacrifice runs too!!
with all the tails you are getting using dragons breath it make me want a tail weapon only run
23:40 meanwhile in another universe: this is a skyrim playthrough
The ornstein charge attack loop thing is probably due to it being a heal punish, but it only checks for items so using dragon head stone just puts him in an ai loop and cheeses the fight.
Wouldn't be surprising since the community discovered that something similar can be done with fume knight in ds2
@@spacebird1598 really for fume? What's the item to use for damage or is it different?

Also Lemon: *farms 50 dragon scales from drakes*

As soon as he reached that part of his pre-run research, *he knew*.
that only takes 50 drakes. if you got the skills!

I love when you're farming the drakes, they will occasionally jump to their death into the ravine, and you can look down into the ravine to see the dragon scale they dropped with no way to get it.
I find it funny you use the word "love". hahahaha...
If you go to the main menu and back into the game the locations of every enemy (including death ones) are reset. That also counts for these that don´t leave a body, but just this yellow item spirit.

@senae. Hate to break it to you but I tried that when I was farming the scales. It unfortunately doesn't work

you keep adding the "no cheating or exploits" thing in your rules
and now it makes me want to see a challenge where you exclusively use cheats or exploits
like no attacking or defeating enemies aside from through cheats/exploits lol
i guess the closest thing to that, that we have, would be a "cheese all bosses" run.
They do exist on YT. ^^

You're a braver man than I to farm 30 dragon scales without using Gold Serpent Ring or Humanity to boost your item discovery rate. For those who don't know, with 10 humanity and the GSR, drop rates are more than quadrupled. (Symbol of Avarice gives equivalent discovery boost as GSR, but it doesn't stack.) Use that if you want to attempt this run yourself.
I would honestly just give me 80 dragon scales trough cheats
@@sand7861 I would too, lol. It's not like you couldn't get them yourself, but hours upon hours spent farming is just a waste of anyone's time and it isn't even fun.
@@asturias0267 plus, there's no risk of getting banned from the servers anymore...
The item dupe glitch is super useful to get the Dragon Scales. And still works in Dark Souls Remastered. Plus performing the glitch feels less like cheating than using Cheat Engine or some such software, but is just as effective.
@@theapexsurvivor9538he was on prepare to die so there was no anti-cheat. I don’t think adding in dragons scales to remastered offline would trigger it when you go online either. Technically you can but its only during an attack
@@shadowrosegaming3566 no you just have a head flying above you
@@someguy1329 what about the claws?
DLC tho
Here’s to hoping they’ll add something like this into a dlc. Maybe it could be something like pair of tears for the wondrous flask.
For example- a “Crystallized Dragon Tear” to transform your head and allow a breath attack to replace your spells or ashes of war; or a “Crystallized Dragon Blood Drop” to transform your body, perhaps massively increasing your poise and giving you a bonus to damage negation, or adding a damaging shockwave to the new mechanic in Elden Ring, the jump button!
I’m probably going to be trying to figure out how the mechanics of such a thing could work (how you could modify the damage type, how to maybe upgrade it to an “ancient dragon transformation,” etc.) for the rest of the day; but I’ll put more thought into it than FromSoft.
Imagine being Gwyn. A creature approaches you, half man, half dragon. You swing your massive flaming sword at him, and he casually swats it aside with his bare hand like it was nothing. You reel back stunned and vulnerable, and you can only IMAGINE what he's going to do to take advantage of that opening, and how painful it's going to be. With that kind of strength, he could tear you limb from limb without breaking a sweat.
And then he gently breathes on you until you're essentially annoyed to death

The determination you put into each video. Hours of farming off camera just so you could put a30 minute video are just amazing. I tip my hat to you.

Yo, everytime I see Lemon post it puts a smile on my face. I don't even play dark souls or like it all that much anymore, but these videos always put me in a better mood :)
To be fair, settings a square peg on fire and reducing it's overall mass would be an effective way to make it fit a round hole.
Excellent work sir. I’m totally down for a whip only run.
A.K.A play the game with a slow, weak weapon that stunts your ability of plunging attacks and criticals
Finally a modern question.
Actually been wanting to refresh myself on the dragon mechanics through the souls.
When you said “fire can’t kill a real dragon” and the music dropped, it was sick.
Can you beat dark souls 2 and 3 with dragon head breath attack?
Looking forward to your nioh runs. Would love to see omnyo only, ninjutsu only, guradian spirit only, yokai shift only and especially yokai abilities only runs.

I nodded off watching this and was having one of those dreams where the noise from the TV blends in with the dream. So i was dreaming I was having a sleep over with Lemon and Press continue. Lol
I love your videos so much, the editing makes it even better. By far one of the most enjoyable challenge runs.
Man I love the Chrono Trigger soundtrack, glad you include it.
Great video! I'm sad the dragon breath attack is so weak because conceptual it's really cool haha
Those OSRS soundtracks...you my dude are a man of culture
"Does anyone besides me actually care about that?" I think that question applies to a decent amount of the extra restrictions he adds to these videos. Lol
I'm sorry, did I just hear Lemon say BLOODBORNE???
My excitement is immeasurable, and my anticipation cannot be understated!
good attempt at this, all things considered. fire damage runs are always a pain, and seeing that dragon scale collection thing would have made me flip.
by the way, thanks backlogs, I beat Dark Souls 2 because of your videos in part. Now to never play that again because by the end i wound up hating it, especially DLC 3.
23:24 I wasn't even a fan of that show and when i heard about that trashfire just... wow.
Thanks for doing a run with one of the coolest but sadly weakest abilities in the game! It's really weird how the roar doesn't buff the fire.
0:15 one could even say... Barley an inconvenience?
Iiiiincredibly late on the uptake, but for anyone else wanting to do a dragon-bro run here are a few pro-tips;
- The damage -and range- of the dragon head fire increases with covenant ranking. farm the 30 scales. it's worth it.
- If you want to switch to a different covenant you can. your coven rank gets halved when you leave any coven so give 60 (or even 99) scales first then you'll keep that damage and range buff.
- USE, CONTROLLED, BURSTS! Each tick of continuous fire uses an increased amount of stamina. The longer you blow, the quicker it gets sucked up. I use three or four ticks of fire at a time and it works well. (listen as you use the skill. each 'puff' of the flame sound effect is a new tick)
- If an enemy dies, you need to begin a new fire burst to quickly re-target the stream. Also, you want to move even just a nudge so the character re-orients to the updated lock-on. More reason to burst fire, and move just a little bit continuously.
- You move slowly while shooting, and enemies often counter-attack. I think it is a reaction to the input being for a consumable (IE punish attempts). Walk backwards while you burn and you can dependably avoid damage- especially when taking advantage of the fire range as well. I tend to walk a small circle as I flamethrower my enemies. Step forward into range, take a step to the left as I wind-up the fire breath, then walk backwards for four fire ticks. Readjust/step forward again, and repeat. You can build a nice rhythm of born and breathe while quickly switching targets as needed and always having enough stamina for a roll or two if needed. Just manage that stamina bar and don't drain it completely. The 'cooldown' penalty on a complete drain gets in the way.
For build/stat tips, focus on vitality over stamina. Stamina cost is easily manageable with a little discipline along with a grass-crest shield on your back. If going full dragon, steel ring is a good option, leaving the second slot open for situational stuff.
Speaking of the fill body;
The torso stone does not boost the fire damage. BUT it is useful in staggering enemies hiding behind shields/weapon guards. It is a stagger similar to casting force, minus the knock-down. It's an 'oh shit' tool for pve. So... not much use. In pvp though it makes it near impossible to get backstabbed. Someone even has a hint of getting around you and you just fire it off. they stagger, you can roll away. Clip a shield guard and you are all but guaranteed a good riposte opportunity.
To get the bonus bare-handed damage you need the full dragon body, and that's it. The animations... well... suck. they look lame and have poor reach. But they hit hard- especially for early game, and -you can parry- with the empty left hand. So that's useful.
which makes me think...
HEY! LEMON! you -CAN- do a bare hands run in darksouls that WON'T make you die from tedium! Just use the dragon body and BOOM! No-weapon run made easy. Dragon fists are still fists dangit!
I really appreciate how you don't take these too seriously and just treat them as fun. We've seen you beat the asylum demon with only your fists, we know it can be done so using the cheat engine respects our time as viewers. Same with the snake at the jail cell. It's a roadblock but I just want to see you breath fire on everything and not having it be treated like some HUGE RUN ENDING DEAL is nice
Keep up the great work
I've watched this channel grow from a couple of thousand views per vid to 100k or more and mate, you totally deserve it. Your content is great, your runs are engaging, even to someone who's not played Dark Souls, and your humour and delivery are spot on. Keep it up
i’ve always wished you could get the ds3 dragon stones early to try the same thing
Skips the walking for the dragon stone
Doesn't skip the 79 dragonscale grind
as someone who's done it, whip only isn't so bad, it's completely trivial if you allow the fire whip pyromancies, but even without them your damage isn't horrible and you get really good range
These Dark Souls 1 challenges are my favourite videos. Always stoked when I see a new one
It’s amazing how many unique and fun weapons they put in the game. Almost feels like they took all the best aspects and weird weapons of their earlier games to put in elden ring
Your voice is so calm and soothing and makes this video so chill to watch or even just listen to
Hot damn, I remember doing this run years ago without armor or blocking allowed. Four Kings were hell, lemme tell ya! Artorias was also a struggle, with the flames obscuring his moves and all. Thanks for highlighting the Mildred strat, it's a cute little work around.
I already really liked your videos, but using Quest 64 music just made my whole week, I can't believe Dondoran got some love where I totally never expected it. Thanks, lemon!
Ah I remember good old days when ppl where rushing to get dragon head and some poppable souls and used infinite souls gain glitch... Ahhh good ol' days
I always thought it would be cool if there were different Dragon “gifts” for different builds that scaled accordingly. Dragon head, flame breath, scales with magic build.. Dragon body, hard scales and claws scale with strength and give a bit of defense. Dragon Tail, Tail whip, dex scale.
It could have been a really cool idea and maybe you could fit a build to actually use the dragon bits, like perhaps the tail can strike backwards to clear a weak enemy behind you, or get a hit in as you run away, and maybe a high stamina cost strong tail hit that staggers giving you a chance for backstab or whatever.. making up for dex build weaknesses. Or you could choose the scales to give your glass canon a bit of much needed defense.
The scales could be useful by giving you temporary strength boost so you could temporarily single hand a badass weapon or something… or maybe a temporary defense boost and additional poise so you can try to get that powerful strike in!
The head could’ve had some additional breath options like a ranged fireball, napalm puddle that lasts for a bit, and maybe a scream to cause stagger.
I’ve always been disappointed in the dragon forms because it could’ve been so cool and pretty well balanced! The trick is to use it to accentuate a build, not carry one. Imagine you’re a squishy magic user, you’re trying to focus on the boss so you go dragon mode, vomit up a puddle of fire behind you, turn and prep your awesome spell while the fire at your back gives you the precious few seconds you need by killing the weak mobs. Or maybe you get boxed in and need a bit of breathing room, Dragon Roar to stagger the mobs and slip through and run away.
Imagine you’re a badass rogue and you’re lacking strength, so you use your powerful tail whip move to stagger the big enemy, slip behind and backstab! Or maybe you’re trying to line up a shot with your bow and you hear a weak mob behind you, tailwhip to clear your back so you can make the shot and then finish them off when you’re done. Another sick idea that might be OP would be a weak tail jab on dodge.. as you dodge past an enemy you get a sneaky strike in with your tail. Not much damage, but it will add up when your entire play style is rolling circles around your enemies. The equivalent of a weak dagger slash maybe. (I can picture the “Tail Dodge Only” runs! Haha)
I have so many neat ideas for dragon forms… I wish I knew how to mod… lol
love your content lemon! keep doing what you do my guy

Ahh the memories of low level duels using only the dragonbreath... (dragon only run, I allowed Kalameet's dragon greatsword which similarly has no scaling. Only problem is cutting his tail, which was honestly easier than I thought using the dragon torso stone's buffed fists, for which I needed the duels in the first place)
I'm personally expecting wacky creative exploits when I'm seeing DS challenge runs, so I wouldn't mind if you relax your rules against exploits. Maybe something like "exploits only when it's otherwise impossible to progress" if you're worried about making things too easy.
Finally! Someone asking the real questions about items I tried using in-game for all of 10 minutes!
Gonna suggest a fun challenge for Monster Hunter
Can you beat MH:W using only poison?
(With the added caveat of you can use a poison weapon/ammo type when they’re at 1 HP since poison usually doesn’t kill and just leaves them at 1)
Found this channel recently, started randomly clicking on old videos to check them out (going through the... 'backlogs,' one could say), and I honestly thought it was a joke at first when he was celebrating 50 subs, 100 subs, 200 subs, etc. But I realized that was legit, and his channel's actually taken off that quickly in under 2 years, and his production value's been pretty much consistent from the start. Pretty impressive, I didn't think channels could explode like this in such a saturated field anymore. Makes me wish I took it more seriously when I started, but being a broke college student with a $5 microphone, Windows Movie Maker, and low enthusiasm didn't allow for much.
Also glad that the channel didn't get swamped with Elden Ring content the way all others have, so I have something to watch as I slowly crawl through the game and still avoid spoilers.
I absolutely did not expect to hear thr Al Kharid music when i clicked but what a pleasent surprise on top of the incredible cake this video is, fantastic work!
You’re probably gonna be hearing this a lot, from a lot of us; but Salt and Sacrifice! Seriously, I need that Throwables run in my life.
Looking back at this challenge run makes me appreciate the dragon incantations we got in Elden Ring. While we may not have the dragon transformation the souls series is known for, minus getting some dragon contact lenses, the dragon communion incantations really make you feel like your truly harnessing the power of the ancient dragons.
Ha! I did this 2 months ago! Haven't seen the video but I'm gonna guess its bandit/black firebombs to not truly kill asylum and then running to the stone, and also killing smough first for a loop that ornstein does if you found it (i think your using an item technically so he tries to punish but you can kite him infinitely, took me forever) ? Unless you use the glass grab clip. i used mildred for quelaag and thats the only time i couldnt fireblast iirc?? Very long slog but surprisingly fun other than trying to farm drakes for a meager increase in damage (EDIT): no black firebombs + thief, overall washed
The transformation sound effect almost made me spit the cereal on my computer. I have to thank God you exist bc without you this world would be darker then all souls games added into one.

2. yes, I'd like a hug.
3. Thank you for the content.
Let's go, a new challenge in my favorite game which I will try without knowing if this challenge is practically unfair or not.

The ring of rocks to the left of Gwyn's boss gate is an easy area to play keep-a-way with Gwyn to get in your attacks. Also you can rush the rocks then back off for Gwyn to do a grab animation so you can heal or buff.
You are the only person who has ever managed to make me enjoy Dark Souls content, and you smashed it yet again
I never expected to hear music from Quest64 on a Dark Souls video, but I am ecstatic to hear it any way!
This video had a much better narrative than Game of Thrones because the ending actually paid off things that were said throughout the first 90% of it. (Also a dragonborn bitch slapping greatswords for parries looks so cool).
