lol, Chael acts as if Tom isn't the favorite going into a hypothetical fight with Jon "I just got boned" Jones. He's a -150 favorite. Tell me when the last time the fans believed that Jon would lose and the oddsmakers. Casuals believed that Gane could beat him, and then real fans knew that Gane has zero grappling, the oddsmakers had gane a favorite for a week, then came back to reality and made jon a -300 favorite. This is unprecedented. Just Jon being the underdog with the oddsmakers and the hardcore fans should be enough to motivate Jonny, but it won't be because he knows just exactly how dangerous Tom is. Tom isn't a point fighter like Gane.. When you get finished, it will be fast, brutal and you will take a lot of brain damage. What he did to sergei pavlovich... We honestly don't know if Sergei will ever recover. He just got dominated by Volkov... Volkov is great... But before the Tom fight, did anyone honestly think Volkov would dominate him?

You can't really argue with Chael's stance on we've seen Jon's toughness (albeit best part of a decade ago) but we haven't seen Tom's yet. However, there is no doubt that Tom has a resilience and mentality to come through.
All the historic evidence points towards Jon's experience and know how that may overwhelm Tom. As a Brit and a fan of Tom it is worth a thought and leads me to a conclusion:

This conversation started after Jones started showing little effort to win fights, specially in the Ovince Saint Preux fight. What I think is: fighters sometimes can get bored of winning; it can seem weird at first but it can happen, to the point that they gradually start to lose interest in putting effort in it and wanting to just get the job done with the least effort possible. It may have happened to Anderson and Fedor, but the only difference is that Jones was the only one who managed to keep on track to at least win by points.

Aspinall is the favourite. For good reason, he's the best heavyweight in the world elite grappler, dynamite puncher, cleared out the division beating everyone in the top 5 except gane that's turned down a fight with him twice and has the shortest average fight time in UFC history. Jones is an inactive LHW that's had 1 fight at HW, that he only took because ngannou left the promotion.
He's had one fight in the past 4 years against a man with no grappling skills, Aspinall has fought 9 times in that space of time including completely blowing his knee out and having surgery and a year off. Of those fights 8 finishes, 7 in the first round and his last three fights combined fight time is 3:22. It's not hard to see why people are picking him.

Tom wins entirely on the striking alone. Jon can stand and bang for sure but he’s not fast like Tom is and that’s going to be a massive problem for Jon. Youth is no longer on his side in a fight against Tom and that will without shadow of a doubt be the biggest contributor to Jon losing if he does fight Tom and lose. Jon’s advantage comes from grappling, but he’s going to have to get close to Tom for that even take place and everyone who does get close to Tom like that gets KO’d in round one.

RIP Anthony Rumble Johnson, I bring this legend up because he had speed like a welter weight( at 205) and punched like a heavyweight. Look what DC did to Rumble. I see a similar fight between Tom and Jon. What happens to Tom when his opponent doesn't fall down? What happens when Jon kicks his knees over and over? Cuts his head wide open? Drops elbows for 3 minutes on top of Tom? Tom's overall fight time in the UFC something like 15 minutes in nine fights. How many hours is Jon Jones been in the octagon five? I'm guessing I don't really know. Nobody walks through Jon Jones, nobody. Tito tapped. 🍻🇺🇲

Rumble and Tom’s skillsets aren’t comparable. Rumble probably hit harder even though he was a LHW, he was just pure raw power. Tom has also shown himself to be a much stronger grappler than Rumble although I admit that has been mostly grappling offence not defense.

    • @straightlusac
      @straightlusac 2 месяца назад +1

Real bro, its hard to see Aspinall winning, but its possible.
Aspinall is a better striker at HW, but Jon has good defense and a damn good chin. Jon won't strike with him so the fight will be mostly wrestling, and even though Aspinall also has solid wrestling and tdd, Jones is far more skilled when it comes to ground game. It won't be as easy as Gane, but ultimately Jon will take him down. One thing I noticed about Aspinall is that early into the fight, he usually takes a step back and then moves his upperbody far back to avoid strikes and when he does that he stops his footwork and his legs are right there to shoot for. Jones can maybe copy his old rival DC here : throw a jab, feint an overhand right and go for the legs.
But, its MMA. Anything can happen, I may be wrong, I may be right.
And also lets not forget Stipe, people are sleeping on him more.

The only reason I’m torn on this is….
    - Jon is a literal murderous savage. Tom is what one might call “a nice bloak”… or bloke? I’m from Jersey… I don’t know how you spell this nonsense but… you’ve got one guy trying to be great at a sport and another guy who legit would take a life in a different time. The mind sets are just different. Tom views Jon as the Goat… Jon said he feared stipe a couple years back. Was that a respect thing from Jon? Maybe… but the mental side of this will dictate all of it because if you put Jon’s brain in Tom’s body, that hybrid wins whatever it decides to do

I'm not betting against Jon no matter who he fights. I like the phrase Dana White uses, if Jon and any other guy walks into a room and only 1 can walk out, Jon walks out every time!! Thats Badass!!!

We do believe in TA Cheal mate! Lets not forget that he took the Pav fight on 2 weeks notice... boom head shot, lights out! Blaydes gets dropped with a jab from his weaker left hand! Tom's also training with guys his size or bigger, exclusively... doing grappling rounds on repeat, carrying these giants on his back, taking him to dark depths. He's also one of those guys that was blessed with speed and agility from day dot. It's something that he and his Dad have purposely nurtured and kept from before he first started martial arts as a kid, before he grew into his 6'5 final form frame today! Nowadays... he already has the speed and footwork... but it's the power that is massively evident today, by the outcome of his wins! I personally don't think JJ will take this fight but it's defo wanted, until it happens... it's always gonna be hypothetical! Let's keep our fingers crossed! See what happens😜

I think Tom Aspinall has a better chance of beating Jon Jones than anyone else does. Tom might straight-up merk Jon with a Yolo strategy, and I couldn't blame him for trying that approach! Six years of age spread in the thirties makes a whole lot of difference. Now factor in Tom's agility for his size which will make the fight extremely difficult for Jon. I say Tom tears Jon a new one but it won't be easy!

The problem Tom is going to have IF he beats Jon (by dec or KO) is going to be the flood of, "yeah, but you beat a older, fatter, slower Jon who hasn't fought in forever"
If Tom loses, they won't say that about Jon, they'll just say, "yeah but he's the GOAT" and Aspinal's stick wouldn't drop much if it was competitive...

Jon is such a bad person I see him just attacking the bad knee trying to cripple Tom. That’s his get out of jail card. Otherwise he is knocked out.

    Always interesting C.
Jon Jones had difficulties with Alexander G. and D. Reyes because of their size and reach i believe.
Lets be honest Tom is just bigger naturally. His boxing, the angles with his timing and distance control is going test everyone. Actually Sergei P. Fight was the performance that really announced The British Heavy Weight looked like The Champion against such a opponent as our Sergei P.

I'm with you Chael, I'm no pro, just a fan with a few punches to the face, but if Tom hits Jon flush, it will hurt. I admire and have massive respect for you guys. Modern day gladiators. Warriors. If it goes longer than 2 rounds, I'm going with Jon.

Tom's been so good, we don't really know how good he is...if that makes sense. We need to see him go some rounds and we need to see more of his grappling. We also don't really know how good Jon is at HW as he's only had 1 walkover

Tom’s striking accuracy sells me on this, but damn it’s hard to call it when you talk about jones quitting. I can’t picture him ever quitting, and idk if Tom puts him out proper with Jon not having time to scramble for a single or something

Hopefully Jon does coca doesn't take tom seriously but tom is one of the few I've seen in years that has the size and skill set to get it done Jon survived on his talents to long it can be said no one has ever had that level before and the stupid things things he pulls it a real possibility that tom can win it would be so so much fun to watch that one go down

Chael, love you man, but just by saying Jones is so tough he wouldn’t tap, doesn’t mean Tom can’t finish him on the ground. The referee will end the contest if Jon’s arm is snapped, or he’s unconscious. That said, I fully believe that Tom would knock him out if they fought. Problem is, I’d be amazed if they ever do. Jon will run because his ego won’t let him risk his record.
