I can't believe this game is 40 years old!!!!!! I remember this game being across the street at the "Omini" pizza and subs shop from my house. It was hard as Calculus to play!! Never did get to the top of the building! I was only 12 years old when this game came out! The golden age of arcade games!! Ms. Pac-Man and GORF was right next to it. DAMN!! Where have the years gone???!!! Great Memories!! Who could have imagined a deadly incurable pandemic 40 years later??!!! WTF??!!
I used to play this game in 81-82. I thought I was good back then. I always had the high score. The farthest I got was almost finishing the 5th building. This dude is the undisputed champ.
3:52 That time they used a _Doraemon_ song in a game that was released even in countries in which _Doraemon_ didn't air yet (such as the United States).
Fun Fact: There was a recently discovered romset which changes the copyrighted music to completely different pieces for the US, due to copyright troubles that they got into. It'll be registered as US set 2 in MAME 0.189. John's Arcade has a rom dump of this relatively rare version available.
I played the Crazy Climber with odd music back in the early 80's. It was a cocktail version in a tiny mexican food joint. I thought I was crazy until I heard the rom recently and realized I did remember it correctly after all.
I wouldn’t be surprised of they faced lots of copyright law suits from other companies since this game does contain many familiar tunes like a shortened version of the pink panter tune among others.
Sublime control of the character, especially when climbing "diagonally" Great avoidance of the "4th degree barbells" and some great luck against the falling signs. Only got scraped off once by them on an impossible drop.
One of my favorite all time arcade games as a kid. I was good, and could get round passed the 4th building and then some. But damn...I wasn’t THIS good! Awesome game play here, nice work!
This game was so much back in the 80s, I used to play it all the time, and it could really piss you off. I'm so thankful for mames, because we can relive our childhood.

I counted 8 hits by the barbells and girders. It proves that you need to "lucky" as well as good to get through this amazingly difficult game. My top on the original hardware is 383,850. Third building, second time around.
this game, scramble and super cobra were in the cafeteria at cherry hill high school west for a least 1 school year. if you couldn't play it then you had to hit the circle bowling alley for it after school
Amazing playthrough of an awesome classic game, mastering the controls is hard enough let alone play near flawlessly, the game gets really hard after stage 3 but he cheated death many times !
I been trying to remember this gane for many years and now i finally found it! I remember playing this in bowling alley aracde in 80s😎 id play battle zone then switch to silver ball and gorgar pinball😎😎oh the memories👍👍

That would be a great score with the original "twin-stick" control panel. How you were able to manage that with a gamepad is absolutely amazing. Thanks for the gameplay my friend, good stuff!👍👍
Moving laterally can be difficult in this game, I used to get that screwed up a lot. It’s my second favourite twin joystick game behind Robotron. This guy’s good.
If you had both hands on the window below your waist, you will always survive the flower pots. The worst part of this game, stand-up version, was the contact points would become disabled due to the slamming of the controls, but oh how I loved this game. I could make the 6th building, but never did clear it.
Loved this game soooooooo much. I used to finish the 4th building, but then I was over in a few. Damned stairs and heavy weight s! This game required really a good strategy and very fast and precise movements. Great playthrough, congrats !!!
Highlights: 1:41 First building cleared with score of 28,400 2:03 Extra life (30,000 points) on second building 6:07 100,000 points reached (third building) 7:17 First death (fourth building) 8:37 Fourth building cleared with score of 225,300 and game loops 16:08 Second death on eighth building - third death occurs about 20 seconds later 16:51 Eighth building and second loop cleared with score of 453,000 20:41 Tenth building cleared - this is last building cleared before game over.
Good mobility. You got pretty lucky in several spots where I would have thought for sure that the girders/barbells would have peeled you off the side. Shame you got unlucky with the sign peeling you off on the twin towers. Just bad luck there. Good run!
I remember getting tendinitis in my shoulder from playing this game sooo much in the arcade. My doctor was rather perplex to see a 10 yr old with this type of shoulder injury ... I didn't admit that I did it playing a video game 🙂 I spent all of my paper route earnings in the arcade hehe.
@ MAMEWorldRecords, My GF claims she rolled over the score on this game waaaay back when it was new---late 80's I'm sure. I know you said you’re not a fan, but might be surprised to learn this wasn’t a late 80’s game. It was released in 1980 in Japan and I remember playing it all summer long in 1981 here in the states.

I never could get the knack of using both joysticks in the arcade version. Drove me nuts ha. I thought getting hit with a flowerpot from more than one floor above knocked you off the building?
(Flies down to you with the Take-Copter, Draws Air Cannon, and Deploys Mini-Gangster guys that I forgot the name of and set you as the target (Yes, even though it's been quite a while since Disney stopped re-running their Doraemon dub I still kinda remember some gadgets like the Anywhere-Door and Dictator Switch)) Gimme your lunch money *and some gud h e a d*

In the arcades, I could never get past the FIRST building. Now that I have it on the Switch, I can usually get to the upper middle of the fourth building.
Ok, I can tell there is a cheat mode to this game added in. If a vase hits your hand, you fall. I can see quite a few times the vases hit your hands. In my version of Crazy Climber, if a vase hits your hand, you fall. Only when the vase hits your head, is it a safe hit.
The version of the game I used to play had an element that seems to be missing here: Wasn't there an electric sign near the top with little lightning bolts coming out of it, and the sound effect the game used was (I think) an exact copy of the first synth riff in the Who's "Baba O'Riley"?
I wouldn’t be surprised if nintendo took inspiration from this game for their donkeykong and ice climber games ,because there’re many similar elements between those games🤣
It looked like one of the dumbbells hit you in level 2, and there was a clang to go with it. How is that survivable? Same question for the spark in level 4 that turned your garb purple but wasn’t deadly.
If you get hit by the dumbells or girders while you are low down in the building, you won't die of you're holding yourself up with both hands when you get hit, not hanging from a window, buy your body should be above the window ledge. This won't work past the 20th floor, or thereabouts. What I don't understand is that a few times in later levels, he is high up on the building and only holding on with 1 hand , and gets hit by a girder and the Crazy Climber just bounces down then up again. Hmmmm ...
I use to love this but could never get past the fourth stage. After 40 years I finally got to see it. Pretty cool but, kinda disappointing, the other stages don't change much, kinda boring it just repeats with more of the same but harder. I always expected more.😔 at least I got to see it after all these years.😃
I just don't understand why sometimes the girders kill you and some times they don't. Right at the end, did you make a mistake, or did it just randomly decide to kill you?
No, there is a pattern. The first girders at the beginning of 3rd and 4rd buildings don't kill you if you place both arms below and stay still..unless you are very close to the first flower pot shooting (3rd building) or the electric machine (4rd bulding). If you keep yourself alive girders will keep falling and if you are hit you are dead in any case
Those sounds bring back a lot of memories. Loved this game.
I can't believe this game is 40 years old!!!!!! I remember this game being across the street at the "Omini" pizza and subs shop from my house. It was hard as Calculus to play!!

This is like Wreck it Ralph, expect there’s no big guy wrecking the building, or a handyman fixing his mess.
I used to play this game in 81-82. I thought I was good back then. I always had the high score. The farthest I got was almost finishing the 5th building. This dude is the undisputed champ.
Go for it. Priceless game. Used to play this for hours back in 1981 in Peru
Me too (circa 1980) but in Hong Kong and with the Japanese voice sample version.
this game was so intimidating to me as a kid. just imagining climbing this super high building and so many things trying to knock you to your death
One of my favorites. I remember it on the arcade stores. I was really bad but was always coming back for more. Great style friend, Congratulations!

always appreciate seeing these longs plays. Thanks for posting!
One of my favorite all time arcade games as a kid. I was good, and could get round passed the 4th building and then some. But damn...I wasn’t THIS good! Awesome game play here, nice work!
I played Crazy Climber at the Drive -in therater Lamarda Calf 1980s ... awesome

@@cpman1987 you can get the game on the ps store and Xbox. I hear ya, man. We grew up in a great time
As someone who dumped far too many quarters into this game in my youth I can't express how insane this playthrough is.
I used to play this game in Mexico when I was a child, I never found it anywhere else, I was addicted to Crazy Climber.
This was my favorite arcade game. Certainly brings back memories. I recall getting to the 4th building or so. This guy is the best I've seen.
'Crazy Climber' was 'Donkey Kong' BEFORE 'Donkey Kong'.
Very different type of gameplay but of course a big inspiration in theme for donkey Kong
Barelyyyyyyy
I can't believe this game is 40 years old!!!!!! I remember this game being across the street at the "Omini" pizza and subs shop from my house. It was hard as Calculus to play!!

This came out after Donkey Kong.
Thanks!! I loved this game in the day and miss it! 😻I remember the 2 joysticks had to be repaired frequently. I know, as I was very rough on them! 😸
Loved how unique the controls for this on the table arcade...
I used to play this at a laundromat by our house. Killer game and sound effects!!

Was this one of the first games to have synthesized voice samples? They sound so amazing! And this was in 1980! This should be a landmark in gaming!
I counted 8 hits by the barbells and girders.
It proves that you need to "lucky" as well as good to get through this amazingly difficult game.
My top on the original hardware is 383,850.
Third building, second time around.
My favourite arcade ever, together with Gyruss. The one I used to play had some different sound effects though.
Amazing! I don't recall ever making it past stage 4 in the arcade!
this game, scramble and super cobra were in the cafeteria at cherry hill high school west for a least 1 school year.
if you couldn't play it then you had to hit the circle bowling alley for it after school
You are a very good player, remenber this game, I played it in 1.982. greetings from Spain.
I think the craziest thing about this game is how much more difficult the game becomes after the first level.
Amazing playthrough of an awesome classic game, mastering the controls is hard enough let alone play near flawlessly, the game gets really hard after stage 3 but he cheated death many times !
When i first saw this at the arcade. I thought razerblades were dropping ( not girders ) the side console art was better at showing that .
0:00, 0:01, 0:02 and 0:05: Ready? CLIMB! (1:39, 1:52 and 1:55)

16:06: DAMAGE! (7:15 and 16:25)
21:03: OH NO! Game over!
This is a fucking incredible playthrough.

7:15 -- The Impossible Situation
"Oh No!"
(Slide whistle) oh no!
And when the sign came down on the two window wide tower he was climbing up.
"Ouch!"
I owned one of these arcade games. Had a lot of fun with it. Sold it for $100. Damn I wish I still had it.
Thank you very much for creating this video!
Loved this game soooooooo much. I used to finish the 4th building, but then I was over in a few. Damned stairs and heavy weight s! This game required really a good strategy and very fast and precise movements. Great playthrough, congrats !!!
They are not stairs, they are girders.
Highlights:
1:41 First building cleared with score of 28,400
2:03 Extra life (30,000 points) on second building
6:07 100,000 points reached (third building)
7:17 First death (fourth building)
8:37 Fourth building cleared with score of 225,300 and game loops
16:08 Second death on eighth building - third death occurs about 20 seconds later
16:51 Eighth building and second loop cleared with score of 453,000
20:41 Tenth building cleared - this is last building cleared before game over.
16:25 Wtf??
And there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. It just comes down luck of the placement
Good mobility. You got pretty lucky in several spots where I would have thought for sure that the girders/barbells would have peeled you off the side. Shame you got unlucky with the sign peeling you off on the twin towers. Just bad luck there.
Good run!
Why am I thinking of "Wreck-It-Ralph" upon first seeing this video?
The "John Travolta" makes an appearance a few times in this game...
16:49 thanks, nitchibutsu, this music is now stuck in my head.
So the Pink Panther plays when the giant ape shows up and when you reach the top, you get the Entertainer, haha great music! lol
Not to mention Baby Elephant Walk at the beginning of each stage. So that's a double shot of Henry Mancini.
A supper club had this game in the cocktail table model
I remember getting tendinitis in my shoulder from playing this game sooo much in the arcade. My doctor was rather perplex to see a 10 yr old with this type of shoulder injury ... I didn't admit that I did it playing a video game 🙂 I spent all of my paper route earnings in the arcade hehe.

I don't believe your GF ... lolz
I preferred starting at the top of the building and taking the elevator down (Elevator Action)!
I love this game! Bought it on PS4 along with Crazy Climber 2 which was only released in Japan arcades.
que recuerdos! uff como pasa el tiempo! este y el galaxian mis primeros juegos de recreativas!

Amazing. I can't even get past the first four.
This game is groundbreaking for the time. Have good Voice samples.
horiontal Frogger with no eating of flies or even the veggies in the pots
dumb-bell is incredible here !!!
I never could get the knack of using both joysticks in the arcade version. Drove me nuts ha.
I thought getting hit with a flowerpot from more than one floor above knocked you off the building?
Great score, hope you can beat that score.
This guy's pretty good
This REALLY reminds me of the WRECK-IT-RALPH video game, highlighted in the movie.
Yes it’s one of the core inspiration. This, Donkey Kong, pop eye, pengo, circus Charlie. Early Konami and Nintendo games ala 80-82
3:51 Doraemon music!
(Flies down to you with the Take-Copter, Draws Air Cannon, and Deploys Mini-Gangster guys that I forgot the name of and set you as the target (Yes, even though it's been quite a while since Disney stopped re-running their Doraemon dub I still kinda remember some gadgets like the Anywhere-Door and Dictator Switch))
Gimme your lunch money *and some gud h e a d*
Sure made a change from shooting games. It’s available on one of the console online stores. I might have to give it another go. 😂 Great memories.
Ich liebe diese Sounds (Musik) noch heute. Yeah, he catch the pink balloon.
what kind of sorcery is this...
I miss the arcades and the 80's.

He's nearing the top! Catching that balloon sure got a rise out of him!
But wait! The windows are closing! Hold on with both hands, Crazy,
and move over to a free ledge!
He did it! Crazy Climber conquered foe and flower pot alike! Our hero!
Crazy Climber reaches the top of the profit charts!
This was my game because no one else in the arcade wanted to play it. Too hard and you don't get to shoot things...just 2 knobs and a mad game
すごい!
必ず2周目の鉄筋でやられてしまう。
Those sounds are from crazy kong.
I'm waiting for this from 1up arcade Hope it comes out one day !
This reminds me of the second lvl in Spiderman on gb
I don't think I ever made it past the 3rd building. I didn't know there was only 4!
In the arcades, I could never get past the FIRST building. Now that I have it on the Switch, I can usually get to the upper middle of the fourth building.
At 0:59 you can hear the iconic Pink Panther theme song.
40 years
20:17 Doraemon theme lol
シラケ鳥~飛んで行く~南の空へ~
What kind of sick person would throw a plant at someone climbing a skyscraper?
You think that's sick? In Crazy Climber 2000 (PSX) they throw fridges at him.
Ok, I can tell there is a cheat mode to this game added in. If a vase hits your hand, you fall. I can see quite a few times the vases hit your hands. In my version of Crazy Climber, if a vase hits your hand, you fall. Only when the vase hits your head, is it a safe hit.
as long as you are holding the joystick in the direction of your arm, it is possible to survive being hit although it is not 100%. (i just tested it)
OH NOOOO!!!!!!
This is so creative! lol I liked!
Are the sounds different? I seem to remember someone saying, "Go for it" on occasion.
i heard it.
Yeah, the sounds do seem different, the ape sound is the most notable, he seems to have a lower pitched “grunt”.
End-Melodie: The Clou.
The version of the game I used to play had an element that seems to be missing here: Wasn't there an electric sign near the top with little lightning bolts coming out of it, and the sound effect the game used was (I think) an exact copy of the first synth riff in the Who's "Baba O'Riley"?

i loved this game but fuck it was hard. this is really impressive.
I remember if u didn't time it right u could miss the helicopter.
Guyz, how do u play this on PC???
You have to download an Arcade emulator, then you download the ROM and ,if you want, change the controls
I remember hating that f@#$ing bird.
I use to love this but could never get past the fourth stage. After 40 years I finally got to see it. Pretty cool but, kinda disappointing, the other stages don't change much, kinda boring it just repeats with more of the same but harder. I always expected more.😔 at least I got to see it after all these years.😃
OHH NOOOOO
I just don't understand why sometimes the girders kill you and some times they don't. Right at the end, did you make a mistake, or did it just randomly decide to kill you?
No, there is a pattern. The first girders at the beginning of 3rd and 4rd buildings don't kill you if you place both arms below and stay still..unless you are very close to the first flower pot shooting (3rd building) or the electric machine (4rd bulding). If you keep yourself alive girders will keep falling and if you are hit you are dead in any case
Noticed that too. Back in the day I assumed that being girders, you were gone if one hit you.
