    Alot of bikes today are aluminum. Steel frames are becoming more rare. That Schwinn is definitely steel. So its worth saving.

    I enjoyed your resto. I have a few bikes like yours but a bit older. My project right now is a 69 Typhoon and I hope it turns out looking like yours. She's green and not yellow but I'm missing a lot of paint from being old and in the Vegas sun for too long. Great job also in keeping old bikes alive.

    We bought a Walmart nel Lusso women's cruiser bike online for $184 . I assembled it and took it to a bike shop for $35 "safety check", included adjustment of proper lube of all bearings. Looks and rides good as $300+ cruisers. Clueless buyers should get the $35 safety check at a good bike shop.

    The lever on the frame of the rear hub is to redirect the forces of the brake, otherwise the axle could turn when braking and damage the bearing or loosen the wheel!Also the break pads need special brake pad grease , otherwise the break pads will clog up after a short time and stop working properly. Have fun !

    • @wordreet
      @wordreet 4 года назад +1

      Brake pad grease? Was it April 1st when you posted that by any chance? 🧐

    • @thomaseisen304
      @thomaseisen304 4 года назад +1

      @@wordreet you are the fool if you think I'm not serious . Brake pad grease is specialy made for the steel pads inside the gear hub , normaly metal on metal as a brake would be a very silly idea , but this grease does the trick ...it leaves enough friction to brake , and it has acid inside what keeps the metal surface open so it don't get clogged up (what would lead to a failure too) This special kind of grease is used in many gear hubs of all types (Sachs/Sram/SturmeyArcher ectr.) .

    • @wordreet
      @wordreet 4 года назад

      @@thomaseisen304 Ah, is it hub brakes or coaster brakes? I've never even seen, let alone ridden a bike with those systems. But I am currently looking at buying a beach cruiser as a restoration project, so maybe I will.

    • @thomaseisen304
      @thomaseisen304 4 года назад

      @@wordreet It's a coaster brake inside the gear hub so very small and not so efficient like a rim or disc brake , but still many people like it . It's a very simple system
      where, by pedaling backwards, a cone presses the two steel brake plates against the hub wall. That's why it is the worst
      decision to try to fix problems on hubs like these to spray WD40 inside , because that will mix up all the different grease and oil inside to a sticky stuff and the gear hub will fail or break . But no worries with a curious mind and some research on the web there are a lot of good people who show in detail how those are beeing serviced ! Have fun !

    Love the bike. Me and some buddies are gonna go cruising here in Vegas and most of them have their bike from the c-vid shut down. Where u could just cruise the Vegas strip. But I been looking to get mine on offer up. Do a little research and try and get a good deal on a good bike. But I noticed that everything I wanted to add was gonna take my bike over the 250 range. So I was glad to see u added everything up at the end of the video. Well done great bike

    I found the same one in the Thrift store... A pink one maiden taiwan... Same year... A lot of people say these things are not Is original schwins... But the funny thing about it is that I had two nineteen seventy schwins and they both cracked on me... The guy that sold this at the trip store said he had it for ten years and now I have it... And this thing runs beautiful... I don't care if it's an original Twin. from chicago if the blueprints the same is the same Bike... But for me I really believe the taiwans are just a little better built... And that one you got there is Beautiful.. You did an excellent job.. The same $300 I will pay for original Schwinn. I will pay for that One you have there...

    Restoring old bikes can be a nice low tech hobby with all the good how to videos on You Tube. You need proper thin wrenches for wheel bearing and bottom bracket adjustment and lubrication. Some threads are reverse of normal loosening/tightening direction. Some nuts are metric some standard inch type.
