I bought one of those discarded bikes and built one just like that one,my brother gave me another one and did the same built to it,then I bought a brand new frame on ebay and built that one from 0,I learned watching content like yours,so thank you very much for all your time and work.(I've been commuting to work since 2023) 🙋👍🙏
I am currently working on my 1999 GT Tequesta, but my bike will have gears to deal with the hills in the city where I live. As I am on a fairly tight budget I won't be able to do it one go, but spread it out over time, but still make the bike rideable until it's finished. It already brings a smile to my face. I may share my project on RUclips once it's finished.
Really like the idea of putting the old BMX decals on a mountain bike frame. You can still clue in little rivet numbs on that front badge to fill the holes. Would have looked a little better if the brake pads and component were wire wheeled. Will be striping some BMX parts of the bikes my scrapper guy shows me. I give him a case of beer once in a month as a thanks. Plus I buy somewhat decent 26" bikes from him for 10$ which is 5 times what he gets for scrap.
Incredible... love the handle bars. Just put a set on a Scott MTB with an old school stem . I use to race BMX back in the 80s. And your absolutely right about that it puts a smile on your face when I look at it. Press on in the good work sir 👍
Very nice build. Every time I see an old bike with horizontal dropouts, I think to myself, Oh what I'd to to this frame? I'm a fixed gear nut, but all single speeds have a place in my heart.
This is very similar to what I've been doing to a frame--turning it into a BMX machine. Can be viewed on current videos. And you're so right--lots of fun to cruise and just ride around town on.
you are getting too good at this allways enjoy your builds, friend of mine had that bike we allways count those heavy duty spokes...im shure you know you did too,,...lol ...
Sweet ride. I did exactly the same with a Reynolds 531 mountain bike. I like the way you tucked away the brake lines. You can do miles on that. I've done regular 25mile runs. Single speed means no bother, just ride.
I'm always still amazed that 20" BMX bikes didn't evolve onto larger BMX bikes along the way as people grew up. I guess MTB's dominated and they just got left behind. Nice build!
Love this concept. Making it happen shortly (or starting the process at least when I go out to my bike shed). *Question* - around 9:10 you're greasing the headset with that little sonoivabitcher (I believe to be the latin term) - Are those things intended for greasing chainsaws? Legit question not saying iS ThAt a CHaiNSaw. I have a few of those from my Grandfather & I've never been clear on if they're *intended for oiling bars* or its just a standardized oil applicator. They certainly work great!
That's a mini grease gun. It is perfect for getting grease into small places. You can get one on Amazon. There should be a link in the video description.
Just change the fork and front wheel (maybe the rims too) and it would already be a proper 26“ beginner bmx… The Frame was made for mtb and was also used for downhill back in the days when I remember right, so it should take some hits… At least way better build as the stumpjumper…😅
Bent fork…. who cares , this bike is cool ! De Pue, you’ve done it again, excellent build !! How do you like the gear ratio ? What are chainring and sprocket # ?
Thank you! That bike is a 39/15. I try to keep all my single speed set-ups at around a 2:1 ratio. Others may be different depending on the terrain you ride.
The only bike i will ride is one i aint leaned over to reach the handles. Hate mtn bike bars and drop bars. Tired of everything sold now is athlete garbage.
70’s kid here and I freaking love this! Never would have crossed my mind to do something like this.

I like your style; time to play, it's wheelie and jump time!

I had a best friend in high school- he was from Figi. His name was Ashwin- so everytime his mom yelled for him- she would say Schwinn!!!!!
Excellent build! Bringing an old bike back to life with a new vibe 👏
What a cool project. Definitely making me want to do this to one of my old 90s MTBs. Looks awesome.

Have an extra High Sierra hanging around, great idea!

Another stellar build, down to the very last detail! 👍
I LOVE this! I want one!
Well done!

Really inspiring build! Please check those forks, they are bent. Keep up the great work!
I was thinking the same thing.....may have to get a new set.

such a very cool bike, hats off to you Depue!!
I love these BMX conversions - I’ve got an old Scott Aspen that I’m going to do the same to
Nice build, great vid. Now all that's left is parking it under my Christmas tree!
Rad build!

They are around but prices start at 500 + some times you can get a good sale but 350 plus
Bad thing is if 6 foot plus the frames are simply too small for my comfort.@PrashantSharma-mv6be
Check out fairdale bikes. Owned by retired pro Taj Mihelich
Awesome.....my next project...but we never had padded bmx seats...
Just beautiful bike
I really love this build
That's damn cool
awesome build!!!!
Pretty Nice 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing job! 🔥
Sweet build have a 1985 schwinn predator 24inch team race series metallic green I just rebuild and love to ride
I like it, like it.
Very nice, I might make something like this for myself. Just wondering who makes that orange headset press tool.
It's an Amazon headset press, but I'm not in love with it and can't recommend it.
@@DePuesshop OK, thanks for the info.
I get it's some mix of quill and threadless adapter, still better to add spacers on the steerer to brace the stem better I'd have thought.
Good advice. I think it would look better as well. Ultimately, I should find a quill BMX stem, but I was limited in my parts bin.
SICK RAT TRAPS BRO

You are absolutely gonna hate my next MTB/BMX build! Haha!
What type and brand of spray paint are you using?
For this one, I just used some basic hardware store paint. I think it was rustoleum.
i did this with 24 inch frame back in 2010.. 😂 my gear ratio is 44-16.
Video👍👍👍👍👍👍

Forks def look sus otherwise great bike
that fork is bent backward. greeting from 54303
Yep, I noticed that....
I noticed that too.
im 55. my back can not take low handlebars...all my bikes have bmx bars
The heck why not take off the stickers 😳🤔
No sound?
I like quiet bikes. I know that isn't the norm these days but all that noise sounds ratty to me.
that fork is bent big time.
Yep, I noticed that after I stood back and looked at it! 😤
First.
The only bike i will ride is one i aint leaned over to reach the handles. Hate mtn bike bars and drop bars. Tired of everything sold now is athlete garbage.
This was hard to watch, an original Schwinn went to the chop shop. 😞 R.i.P
This fork is Collision bending
