  • Sometimes you have to decline top tech company offers in order for them to come back and gives you a better one.
In this video I break down a real life example of how a recruiter initially told my client that the best she could do was $275K for a Sr. Program manager role (tech L6).
We got the number up to $300K total comp, but then walked away.
Amazon then came back and opened their checkbook with an email that effectively said “what’s your number, we will get it approved by the VP”
Ultimately my client decided not to take the role at Amazon for a number of reasons which I get into in the video.

Turning down an Amazon offer tomorrow. Remote position until I got the offer and low balled!

Yep, cannot take recruiter's initial-final number as THE final number! And having leverage (another offer) definitely changes these negotiations and enable you to approach it with a different mindset.
    Love your content John!

Hi John. What if the leverage is a counter-offer from my current job? Or even my current salary. Can I still use the same approach?

Would this high compensation be offered to someone who works as an AWS independent software vendor at Amazon, doing account management?
