    Fascinating. I bought a sturdy pair of trail boots with ankle support, thinking it might help to have more support. But within two weeks, plantar fasciitis kicked in. I didn't catch on at first, and kept trying, doing the exercises and taping that you show, which helped a bit. Then I heard one of you mention that too much support can be bad, and it clicked, that I had just changed shoes. I bought some New Balance regular trail shoes, which have done me well in the past, and within a couple of weeks, my fasciitis was 80% better. I won't go sturdy again.

    I use the Hoka One model only when I run. I like that it makes the foot strike more comfortable. And for it's size, it's a surprisingly light shoe. I bought these to break myself into running, as it's an activity I've never enjoyed. With the Hokas, I think my entire frame was able to adapt to this activity better than if I'd used just lightweight trainers. For exercise that has a lot of lateral motions, I prefer a court shoe far and above over a running style shoe of ANY kind and recommend it. It really helps avoid ankle sprains. :)

  • @sjacuk65
    @sjacuk65 2 года назад +2

    I'm 56 and have been running since I was 10. I've maintained the same wear pattern my entire life. Based on your wear pattern I fall in to the normal category. Problem is that I get into the white/foam portion of the shoe in the heel area and the rest of the shoe still appears to have plenty of life left in it. Usually happens in the mid 200 mile range. It gets expensive based on the stat that says you should be getting 300-500 miles per pair. Still cheaper than visiting an orthopod because of hip, knee, or lower back pain. Love your channel BTW.

    Guys I think there's a slight error regarding normal wear patterns and what shoes to ask for, if you have normal wear patterns, then 'neutral' shoes suit you, not a stability shoe, a stability shoe, or a shoe with stability features(from Nike), is a running shoe designed to help athletes who overpronate. It supports the arch of the foot and provides greater support through the midsole and into the heel. Stability shoes are usually more rigid than neutral running shoes.

    By minimalist, do you mean the zero elevation shoes? I have a pair of Xero brand walking shoes with no heel, no arch support and a wide toe box. What do you guys know about those? are they any good? I was sold on their being better for balance.

    Hi Bob and Brad.
    Was wondering, can the wrong shoes cause leg foot or toe cramping. I've had that problem for the last 7 years, after I retired from working retail and a cashier.

      Yes, it definitely can

      You might be low on magnesium. I used to get cramps all the time and now I don't.

      Yup. Magnesium! Also Potassium. Try getting some Magnesium lotion, rubbing it on your body before bed and eat a couple bananas or potatoes. If you notice your muscles feel better the next morning, you'll know it's one or both were low.

    I must have flat feet. First of all, you can tell by looking at my feet. Second, my gait is exactly like my father who has flat feet. Third, I never liked sneakers as a kid. They weren’t comfortable and wore out quickly on the insides. I don’t wear sneakers, haven’t for years. I wear the original Kalso Earth Shoes, Birkenstock’s with soles reinforced on the inside, old style Catholic school uniform oxfords with hard leather soles, or flat, wooden soled clogs for lounging around the house. I wear cheap flats, no heel at all, if the occasion requires it, but that’s for short periods of time. If a shoe comes with cushiony inner soles or built in arch supports, I take them out and replace with a homemade flat leather liner. Since all these shoes except the flats are very expensive, I don’t wear them out. I get them re-soled before that happens. I have no trouble with my feet since I started wearing these in my late 20’s and I’m now in my mid-60’s. I can walk for miles without foot pain.

    I don’t know what this says about me, but the right shoe is always way more worn down than the left shoe. I have been an avid runner for a couple decades now and as I’m approaching mid 40s, I’m experiencing a lot of joint pain. I will run on the concrete in the hot Florida sun. This year for some reason, I am experiencing a lot of knee pain and the whole left side of my body hurts and lower back pain.

      How’s your heart? Avoid the jab & boosters. My joints stopped hurting when I went on a keto diet.

      @@Pamela.B funny I’ve been really contemplating whether or not to get the 2nd vaccine. I really started having serious joint pain and body aches after I got Covid. And I’m okay with being sick for a week but with not lingers on and on and on and affects the quality of your life… Not sure if I should get the second vaccine since the new variant is spreading around here like wildfire. Anyhow I eat a fairly clean diet a lot of raw organic produce, salads, eggs, beans and fish. I was considering trying keto, but I don’t do dairy or gluten or a red meat.

      H H We need to boost our immune systems. Vitamin D, C, Zinc, Quercetin, L-Lysine. Hospital protocol on Covi-flu patients calls for Remdesivir which is deadly... yes, truth. Athletes are not immune to heart failure from whatever they put in the boosters. ☹️

    What are minimalist shoes?

    • @BobandBrad
      @BobandBrad  2 года назад

      They have minimal souls, very light and offer little support to the bottom of your feet. The idea is they keep the small muscle in your arches and feet stronger. Brad
