im about the get a gravel bike and grizly one of the top 3 models im looking for. and this video is very usefull. straight forward. watching big channels also good but u never know if it’s sponsored or the reviewer all honest (because sometimes even if they are not sponsored they dodge to say negatives because of future collaborations) so i mostly watching small channels and listen what they think and feel even if they aren’t pro bikers and it helps a lot. thanks for putting your time to this helpful video. much love.
Very useful video! Yep, for grizl, the stand over height is the one that we muct consider. I do want a bigger frame but after watching I think size M will be my best choice (I am 181cm with 85.5 )
Canyon frame sizing is larger than other makes Iam 5.8 and have xsmall would normally be small their sizing web site is very useful and also you can send the bike back if not satisfied
Thank you for the video:)) I was thinking about getting the AL version with the GRX for a mixture of commute and fun trips round and about in different terrain. I have three questions, which you may be able to answer. A lot of people are saying stuff about the quality from CANYON, some things missing, paint quality and so on. How has your experience been in that regard? Has there been any issues where you have had to contact costumer service? And how do you think it would fare doing maybe 70/30 on road/gravel as part daily commuter? Keep doing what you are doing!!
I found it to be of really good quality tbh, I did notice after quite a heavy gravel ride I had some paint chips, not sure if this is normal...I imagined it would be. I didn't have to contact customer service. I think that would be a good mix but you may wanna look at the grail since you are doing quite a bit more road. Thanks for the comment :)
How would you compare this Canyon Grizl with the Triban RC 520? Are you still riding your Triban? I'm trying to decide between the two and if it's worth the upgrade to the Canyon.
I still have my Triban grvl 520 subcompact and I love that bike too. To be honest, they are both amazing bikes. One is carbon, one is aluminium. You can definitely tell that the Canyon is a better machine all around, it is more playful, agile, quick off the mark and just pure quality. With that said, the Triban is still great, and I use it everyday for going to work and coming home. It has become my 'tank' because I don't have to worry too much about it and can leave it locked outside work without any worries. My Canyon is more of my sports car, weekend rider treat kinda thing. I guess I can't make the decision for you but I guess the price difference is about 800euro? If you are going to be using the bike solely for the purpose of weekend rides and never leaving it unattended etc, then the Canyon would be worth it. If you want to be leaving your bike outside and locking it up in places etc then maybe the Triban is more ideal. Whatever you do, they are both great bikes!
Thank you! That's super helpful and so amazing you made this video as I was just looking at the Canyon Grzl bike and had watched your previous videos multiple times haha. Really I appreciate you making them! Yea, I don't plan on using the bike as a daily commuter but for weekend rides on a mixture of trail and roads while occasionally doing some bike packing. Did you do any upgrades to your Triban?@@TheHealthyTeacher
@@wanderinwhilewecan ah you're welcome :), I enjoy making them. If I was in your shoes with your use case then, I think you would be happier with the Grizl, they are just nicer bikes overall really, if you can afford it, do it! Who cares about the money anyway ;). You don't wanna be thinking "what if?". For the Triban, I actually tried making it tubeless...the rims and the rim tape wasn't done very good by Decathlon so I ended up giving up! I still run it with tubes but that is ok as it is now my everyday bike. I got a new seat for it, the same seat as the Canyon actually as it's a nice seat in my opinion. I also added some better handlebar tape as the Decathlon one was awful. Finally, I did stick on some Panaracer Gravelking SS(semi-slick) Plus tyres, they made it super slick and speedy. I actually have a video of these tyres on the Triban on my channel that you can check out.
I bought a Grizl and sent it back. I'm about the same dimensions as Mr. Joe - a little bit taller - and Canyon recommended an L. But an M would have been the right size for me. It's a great bike, and Canyon's no-hassle return service is excellent, but I wish I had listened to myself and not Canyon's online size guide! PS: Mr. Joe isn't going to be a healthy teacher for long if he keeps riding his bike without his helmet!
Thanks for the comment and your experience. I think it will help others as I couldn’t find real life experiences anywhere when I was buying first time around. Strange they recommended you an L, maybe you are a cm or two more than me? I think their sizing is a little bit weird and it’s hard to figure it out as you can’t try them anywhere!
@@TheHealthyTeacher I'm one of those right on the intersection of two sizes, based on their categorization and recommendation "engine". I find SML sizing really arbitrary - it's like clothing! I much prefer frame sizing in cm but of course ultimately you have to determine sizing via geometry. I thought I'd compared the Grizl online geometry chart with my road bike beforehand, but I mainly trusted Canyon's data crunching. Then again, only using height and inside leg measurement is not really sufficient. Sizing is the main bugbear with Canyon, I think, and the only issue (that I'm aware of) with their online purchasing service. They accepted the returned bike - I had only put the front wheel, seat and handlebars on and checked it out in the house - and returned the payment in record time. I would definitely buy another Canyon, but I would stick with my own sizing calculations. PS: I added the above PS about helmets after you responded. Gotta set an example for the kids! ;-)
@@treyquattro haha you are absolutely right and I’m wearing a helmet 99% of the time! Understood about your problems with sizing, it was very similar to me but many said go for the smaller size!
I'd always recommend a bike fit pre-high end bike purchase especially ordering online. What height are you out of interest? I ride a medium Grizl and medium Ultimate. And I'm 178cm tall. I've had bike fits and both bikes fit me well and only needed some minor tweaking. I was recommended shorter cranks on the road bike but it was brand new Ultrgra Di2 so no chance 😂
@@matcat23 I am 182cm with 88cm inseam. Yeah you are right to be honest but that costs money on top of the expensive bike purchase haha! Yeah no chance swapping out new ultegra di2 cranks haha! Ultimate....hmm how is that? I could do with a new road bike ha!
that was actually quite helpful. i wanna buy, but i'm a slim 202 cm guy and probably go for the biggest model. we'll see. I'm gonna look like a fucking grasshopper on that bicylcle

thats exactly what I am looking for with the sizing...thanks a lot!!

Thanks. I was just trying to be as honest as possible here as I had trouble myself as you could see. Glad it helped and enjoy your new bike!
If I understand correctly, the length of your leg is 88 cm? How high is the saddle set from the bottom bracket axis?
Yes my inseam is 88cm and my seat height is 540mm
why did you think you need size l?
I'm 178, 82 inseam and canyon sizing says I can go small/medium. i'd probably go small, not sure though
Whats size did you end up getting? I'm same size as you. 😀
@@bogdanceausescu7403 honestly I didn’t buy the bikes yet. But if I will, would go for a small. That’s what most people recommend me…

80cm inseam but the bike I want is only available in m :/
You bought the bike at Outelet market. Did it come to you with any detail in the painting? or not
Not it was honestly like new!
The red pedals are distracting and make this bike look less nice in my opinion.
Don’t worry it has SPD pedals now :)
