Dr. Prasad, thank you so much for a well-explained video and other ways to treat hair loss. I love your thick hair. I had a hair transplant 12 years ago and I did get my hair back. But in the last seven years, I stopped using minoxidil and now I am losing my hair again. My dermatologist told me it's Alopecia. NO hormone problem. My mom lost some hair but it wasn't bad. I noticed that my hair falls off every time I am stressed out. I went through really bad stress with my son seven years ago and have not recovered since. My hair is back to the way it was before I had hair transplant. Three questions, 1) Am I a good candidate for Hair Regeneration? 2) How many injections? 3) What is the price to do this?
Hi Biz888, Sorry to hear about your problems. Although you do provide details, a lot more detail is needed. Female pattern hair loss occurs throughout the scalp, so i'm not sure how you had a transplant without damaging nearby native hairs, causing them to be lost. Also, female pattern hair loss cannot be confirmed by just looking at the scalp, so scalp biopsies are needed to confirm it prior to treatment, so I can't say without this evaluation if you are a good candidate. Our patients only require 1-2 injection sessions for 3-5 years, or more, of benefit. Cost depends on extent of treatment needed, if you are a candidate. Our offices are located in the USA in Manhattan, New York City which you can call at (212) 265-8877; Garden City, Long Island at (516) 742-4636; or Vienna, Virginia at (703) 356-1446. You can also reach us through www.prasadcosmeticsurgery.com, www.nyhairloss.com, or www.trichostem.com by filling out a contact form, and we will get back to you regarding price range. I hope to hear from you soon.
My bf made a comment after 4 years being together if I’m losing my hair.. made me cry. He said he will help to pay for whatever I decide to have to help with my hair. 🥺

Hello Dr.Prasad. I've been losing a lot of hair since the past 3 years and my dandruff is terrible and no shampoos or medicines are working. I was also diagnosed with insulin excess 2 yrs ago and that was when my hair fall aggravated, but now my insulin levels are normal but my hair loss is still the same. Any suggestions what I should do.

Thanks for your reply as I was not expecting bt I m glad by seeing that.. Please make me clear that hair Regeneration is also a treatment? And in India (Delhi) what it is cost ?
Hi Shama Perween, The results of the Hair Regeneration ACell PRP treatment are featured in the video, and in the thumbnail. However, We don't currently offer the treatment in India, but we do have many Indian patients coming to the US for treatment. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, Facetime, or email follow up. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Hello sir. Kindly advised me what to do with hair if I am suffering from sever hair fall and hair lose .It can be seen visibly gap ony scalp although I have already taken prp sessions
Hi Shama Perween, Sorry to hear about your problem. I don’t administer PRP alone for hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. Also, the number of sessions needed does vary, and the longevity of results is unpredictable. Hair Regeneration is a PRP combination treatment where PRP is the activator of the main ingredient extracellular matrix by ACell. Hair Regeneration is a one-time treatment for most patients, and can last up to 5 years and beyond, depending on the aggressiveness of the hair loss pattern. You don't need repeat injections periodically. Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil completely, or be weaned off it to prevent a sudden hair shed. You can see the treatment featured in the video, and the patient in the thumbnail seems to have the same issue as you do prior to her treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.
I have imbalanced hormones, the male testosterone is a little higher, so i have acne and thinning hair... My dr didnt give me anything saying the hormone is still within a female range! But then what do i do about my thinning hair :(
Hi Jemma J, I don't believe that testosterone levels are a great contributor to female pattern hair loss, because if it was, spironolactone would be more universally effective for treating female pattern hair loss. You can review this recent video about the causes and treatments for female pattern hair loss: ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html
Hi@@Joyjoy-ih1ie, Female pattern hair loss needs to be confirmed by scalp biopsies as it is more difficult to diagnose than male pattern hair loss. Cortisol is a stress hormone more associated with telogen effluvium, which is temporary hair shedding associated with severe stress. However, it is possible to have telogen effluvium and female pattern hair loss concurrently. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Thank you very much for this video! I have exactly the same hairloss as the hairloss shown in 0:40 sek. Very long years my hair was sparse and thin, but these days it falls a lot... really a lot. A am afraid that I will lose it all. Make hormone tests - ОК, vitamins - OK. I wash it realy rare, no more than 2 times a week. I stop the heat treatment but... it falls down as my hope. I am realy restless, I was in general anestesia before 1 month (kidney problem) so.. As it was noted in the video, maybe it is telogen effluvium? How can I help myself in this case (can not stop the stress, i am PhD in engineering :D). Are there any medications that can help?
Hi Anne Merie Nguyen, It depends on the situation, as shown in the video. Upper eyelid surgery is often combined with brow lifting, and brow lifting can often be replaced by upper eyelid surgery instead for natural looking and predictable results. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Hi doctor. I had a very thick and healthy hair. My hair started to thinning from last six years and now my hair is same like first image. During these 6 years i gave birth to 2 children . Recently i had a blood test and everything is ok except very low vitamin D. I am taking vitamin D tablets according to doctor’s (Gp) prescription. I loss 40 - 55 hairs daily and 100- 120 when shower. Do i need to see a specialist doctor for a hair loss treatment?
Hi fasha w.hampton, Hair thinning and hair shedding are two separate issues, with female pattern hair loss more associated with hair thinning. It's normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, but shedding can increase with hormonal changes due to childbirth. You do need to see a specialist doctor to diagnose the cause or causes of your hair loss. Female pattern hair loss is difficult to diagnose, so scalp biopsies are often needed to confirm it. You can refer to these videos on how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss: ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/eIFL1-mrg0I/видео.html
Hello ! I have a question. I was diagnosed with very mild hypothyroidism and heard it can cause hair loss. I've lost a lot of hair on the top front of my hair. Is it related ? And since then I've been taking thyroid medication (it's been 2 years now) but still no hair growth there. Should I do hair transplant or wait longer ? Thank you for your time.
Hi Haru Sun, Sorry to hear about your problem. You still need to be diagnosed properly before any treatment can be recommended as hair loss can be related to hypothyroidism, or you may have pattern hair loss at the same time as hypothyroidism. Pattern hair loss is also gradual hair thinning throughout the whole scalp if you are female, not bald patches. We diagnose female pattern hair loss using scalp biopsies before we consider treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.
@@AmiyaPrasadMD Thanks a lot for your answer. I've looked for pattern hair loss and yes I think that's what's happening. Is it curable or can it be reversed with proper treatment ? I don't want to have to have hair transplant to be honest, it seems quite a heavy decision to make. Sorry for taking your time.
Hi@@lidia094, You can specifically ask a dermatologist or a trichologist about it. While we do scalp biopsies in our office, it is analyzed by an outside lab. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Hi Dr. I suffer from PCOS and have male pattern balding. I would like to lower my hairline for 1 inch, my forehead was naturally wide, but due to PCOS, it has receded further. Am I eligible for hair transplant? My hair was thick naturally, hair on the back of my head are still thick. Will I lose my transplanted hair again? Or they will grow forever?
Hi Neha Kainaat, I suggest you have your PCOS treated first, as well as your female pattern hair loss before you consider a hair transplant. PCOS can be treated by your gynecologist, usually with hormone therapy, which does improve the condition of your affected hair. You can refer to this video on how we diagnose, and treat female pattern hair loss - ruclips.net/video/2WhELyekG4A/видео.html
Female 20 yrs old, I know my hair loss is due to putting constant tension on my hairline (traction alopecia) which has caused the thinning would I be a good candidate?
Hi Diamond, Traction alopecia can damage hair follicles so they stop growing hair, but won't cause hair to thin. It is possible to have traction alopecia, and female pattern hair loss concurrently, so I would have to examine your scalp for thinning due to female pattern hair loss before I can determine if you're a candidate for treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hello Dr. Prasad, I have had a problem for over a year with losing hair around my frontal hairline, forehead and side's, I would like to know what procedure would be best for me!
Hi KRJ N/A, Sorry to hear about your problem, but a diagnosis for the cause of your hair loss is needed before a treatment can be considered. I am diagnosed with FPHL. Doctor prescribed me minoxidile 2%. But it causes hair loss drastically. I am thinking of hair transplant. Should I do it? Is it permanent?
Hi Eva Moni, Hair transplants are not advised for most women because female pattern hair loss follows a diffuse pattern, so the trauma of transplanting hair too close to native hair will cause permanent loss of native hair follicles, making the hair loss worse. You can watch this video, as well as this more recent one, about the safter alternatives to transplantation, including thickening thinning hair and stimulating hair growth from dormant hair follicles, using the customized TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment, which only needs 1-2 treatments to last 3-5 years, without the need for minoxidil - ruclips.net/video/-qqYdDT9jnI/видео.html
Hello Dr. I need your help I am 20 facing severe thinning of hair ...This runs in my family even my mom has thinning hair and I don’t know what to do I used to have thick hair but now its just thinning so badly Can you suggest anything also I was once diagnosed with hormonal imbalance and have pimples and all pls help me out
Hi Ananya patel, Sorry to hear about your problem. A physical exam and possible scalp biopsies are needed to confirm if you have female pattern hair loss. Hair loss due to hormonal imbalances are usually temporary, and hair can grow again once levels are stabilized, but concurrent pattern hair loss is a possibility. You can refer to this video about how I diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html

Hello. Three months ago I started shedding hair like crazy. The hair loss started exactly three months after I suffered from severe GI issues that caused me to lose rapid weight and I was in terrible pain and constant emotional stress. I was diagnosed by a random dr with Telogen Effluvium but I am losing hair suddenly in my part. I was not losing an abnormal amount of hair prior to this at all, but now am concerned it’s not TE bc your info seems to depict the part as being AGA. How can I confirm? This dr did not offer a scalp biopsy as he said it’s a clinical diagnosis.
Hi Beth Heller, Androgenetic alopecia is progressive hair thinning, which can widen the hair part, but it's not associated with hair shedding. The factors you mention such as emotional stress, rapid weight loss, and GI issues are all sources of stress that can lead to telogen effluvium. Aside from scalp biopsies, your scalp can be examined for hair thinning. However, if this is as you say just started happening 3 months ago, it is highly unlikely to be progressive hair thinning associated with pattern hair loss. I hope this helps you.
@@AmiyaPrasadMD thank you so much. I just noticed on your website that one of your offices is quite close to where I live. Perhaps I’ll make an appointment for peace of mind.
I had thin hair in the top and crown area since birth but now I am 18 and it is even worse than before experiencing lot of hairfall and scalp is visible in the crown area and also my hair is thinning in the top... What should I do is hair transplant suitable option for me ?
Hi Jennie Crystal, Sorry to hear about your problem, but a hair transplant is not likely an appropriate treatment for you because transplant hair too close to native hair can damage hair follicles permanently, causing even more hair loss. If you can't come see us, I suggest you see a doctor for a proper diagnosis of your hair loss. We can thicken thinning hair with our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment, but the treatment can't make naturally thin hair thicker than it was prior to progressive thinning. I was diagnosed with hormonal alopecia which is androgenic alopecia. So I’ve been losing my hair for the past 4 years I use to Have thick long hair and now it’s half of the amount and longest it had been is to my shoulders. What should I do ? I am currently taking some pills I was prescribed but I feel it doesn’t do much for me.
Hi sami ochoa, Sorry to hear about your problem. Hi, is there any good skin and hair doctors in Hyderabad that you know? I’ve been to some dermatologists but even after maintaining a good food habits! Acne and hair fall is my problem!
Hi vanshika reddy, Sorry, I’m not familiar with doctors in India. Hair loss can have a genetic or hormonal cause, but food is unlikely to be a cause. Acne can be influenced by genetics and diet, but i treat its effects like acne scarring more than the actual causes. I hope this helps you.
Hi Ayah Azzam, It's not clear what treatment you are asking about. The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can thicken progressively thinning hair, but it cannot make hair that has always been naturally fine thicker than it ever was. Hair transplantation at the crown can damage our existing hair follicles as they are naturally close together, so doing so can cause permanent hair loss due to damage to your native hair follicles. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Hi. I am 29 years old woman with problem of mild pcod since 1 year. However i have been noticing my hairline receding slowly since last many years in a way my forehead is getting bigger from sides and now front. More on left than on right side. Hair is thinning too. Could you please suggest me some corrective surgery or any restoration method?
Hi Divya Singh, Sorry to hear about your problem. It is possible to have PCOS and female pattern hair loss at the same time. I suggest you see an experienced doctor to have it diagnosed first, are there are more causes of hair loss for women than there are for men, but most cases are female pattern hair loss. However, female pattern hair loss can be managed. You can refer to these videos about how it's diagnosed and treated: ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/eIFL1-mrg0I/видео.html
Hi@@DivyaSingh-bp5lu, Did you watch the videos I forwarded? They explain the importance of a diagnosis first, and how an ACell PRP treatment can help. I don’t administer PRP alone for hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. Also, the number of sessions needed does vary, and the longevity of results is unpredictable.
Dr, am a 23 yr old male my hair loss pattern slightly resembles female pattern hair loss, where like in the pic shown in this video, my scalp is showing while i part my hair. My hair looked good on mid of oct 2018, and now the part is wide as the hair strands near the parting area have become like thread. I have no history of baldness in my family. Though in the month of dec 2018 i was diagnosed to have telogen effluvium. I think its been almost 7 months and still am shedding 50-60 on my bed sheets, 30 hairs in the shower, my hair loss is progressing so fast. How do i confirm that am actually suffering from TE and not AGA. I dont want to stay calm beleiving that i have TE and lose all my hair to realize that its androgenetic alopecia. Please let me know how i can diagnose this. Should i start taking finasteride ?
Hi suresh raghul, It’s normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. Telogen effluvium is suspected when you shed 200 or more hairs a day. Shed hair from TE does grow back, but you could have concurrent pattern hair loss. The only way to confirm is to have a proper diagnosis from an experienced doctor. Finasteride is a prescription drug, and cannot be recommended unless you see a doctor and are issued a prescription. I hope this helps you.
Hi@@sureshraghul2715, Yes, a scalp biopsy can help in determining androgenetic alopecia, but for men it can usually be determined with just scalp microscopy exam to see thinning hair. A scalp biopsy is usually done to diagnose female pattern hair loss because there are many other hormonal causes of hair loss in women that are not female pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.
So according to you if I have a history of hairloss in my family, even then I shouldn't go for hair transplant but try hair regeneration technique or can even minoxidil work?? I am 20 years old and currently experiencing a lot of hairloss and a gap in center of my head
Hi chzechoslovakia 98, Hair transplants are not advised for diffuse female pattern hair loss. However, a gap at the center of your head has to be properly diagnosed as actually being female pattern hair loss before any treatment is recommended. If you are experiencing hair shedding that caused that gap, it isn't pattern hair loss, as pattern hair loss is not shedding, but gradual thinning. I suggest you have a proper diagnosis before determining on your own what treatment is best for you. I hope this helps you.
Thank you doc, I think the same because my hair are thin and even though I have a history of hairloss in my family , I don't think it's the case with me,!! I sincerely think it is due to iron deficiency anaemia (Hb = 9) and my stress level, I'm a dental student myself!!
Amiya Prasad, M.D. please advise my option. I am 50 years old woman. I am in menopause. I have severe hair loss like hair falls in big chunks and lot of thinning. My blood work is all fine. What are my option to grow back hair follicles and hair thinning?
Hi@@lightningandthunder2861, Sorry to hear that. I suggest you have a proper diagnosis because your description sounds like hair shedding, and hair thinning. Female pattern hair loss is diffuse hair thinning, and it is common to start at your age. You can't grow back dead hair follicles, but if have female pattern hair loss, dormant hair follicles can be stimulated for growth, and thinning hair can be thickened with the Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video. Scalp biopsies are needed to confirm female pattern hair loss, but shedding clumps of hair is not associated with the condition, so an expert is needed for a full assessment. I hope this helps you.
Hi @@PoonamGupta-su5ei, Hair shedding is associated with stress in a condition called telogen effluvium, which actually doesn't have a medical treatment, as shed hair grows back with time. You do need proper diagnosis to determine your exact problem. I hope this helps.
Hi doctor all my head have sheding hair and my over head get very bald all my head not have much hair and my hair kind so break break i am25 years old i can have transplant surgery?i cant live enymore i lose my confident
Hi sh eslami, Sorry to hear about your problem. You need to see a doctor about the cause of your hair loss. Pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair shedding. Shed hair usually grows back without the need for medical intervention, but you need to confirm the cause of hair shedding with a doctor. I cannot determine the cause of your shedding as I have not seen you scalp, and I don't know your medical history. Hair transplants are generally not recommended for most female pattern hair loss cases, and not recommended for men under age 30. I hope this helps you.

Hi Shaunella Welch, Sorry to hear about your problem. You may be suffering from telogen effluvium, or stress-induced hair shedding. Your previous hormone-induced hair loss was probably to polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is usually treated with contraceptive pills. There is no treatment for telogen effluvium, and the hair does grow back with time. Female pattern hair loss is hair thinning throughout the scalp, so that needs to be confirmed with a physical examination, and possible workup and biopsy. I hope this helps you.
Hi T devi Tangaveloo, Sorry, I don't practice in India, so this treatment has to be performed in the US. There are limited treatments for female pattern hair loss available, as you can see in these videos, but we do this treatment for patients in India who do come to the US for treatment: ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/eIFL1-mrg0I/видео.html
Hello sir I m suffering from the severe hairfall for the 5 months.......my estrogen thyroid and testosterone levels are normal ......so is it Androgentic Alopecia And in my family no one is bald....nor my dad and nor my mum so what is the reason.........Plz ans my question
Hi Ayesha Aslam, It is unclear if you have hair shedding, which is not pattern hair loss; or hair thinning, which is likely pattern hair loss. Pattern hair loss is more gradual hair thinning, and not sudden hair shedding. You do need scalp biopsies to confirm female pattern hair loss. The genes for pattern hair loss can be carried over several generations from both sides of your family, not just your parents. You can watch this more recent video about diagnosing and treating and female pattern hair loss - ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html
I was thinking about getting a hairline transplant because I have a bigger forehead and a M shaped hairline. I always hated my hairline and the way it made my hair look. What are you thoughts on giveing hairline transplants to women to reshape their hairline that have no hair loss?
Hi Skylynn Pollard, Hairline lowering transplants can be done safely for women not suffering pattern hair loss since there isn't existing hair at the hairline and forehead that are prone to collateral loss. You should be prepared for more than one transplant surgery to get sufficient density at the hairline. There is this older video about it for your reference - ruclips.net/video/DHBoBYIDpA4/видео.html
Hi Abhishek Singh, TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is a customized injection treatment, so it has to be done in our offices in the US. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment (under normal travel conditions), but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, FaceTime, or email follow up.
As far as diagnosis, does a biopsy actually tell you for sure that this is either genetic or telogen effluvium. What is actually involved in a biopsy, and who is the proper professional to do this and read the results?
And if you have chronic telogen effluvium for years, will you not still have the miniaturization of the hair follicles where the hairs itself become thinner and eventually go dormant completely? Is there any reading material that you recommend that explains this further? Really appreciate any additional information.
Hi GirlCami, For biopsies, I use a punch to take small samples of skin from 3 areas of the scalp. I then send them to a lab I trust because they are very experienced in diagnosing hair loss. It is possible to suffer from telogen effluvium and genetic pattern loss currently. You can find more information about it on my website: nyhairloss.com/hair-loss-info/female-hair-loss/ nyhairloss.com/understanding-hair-loss/ I hope this helps you.

Hi@@alexandraalexan884, Finasteride is not used by women because it is a DHT-blocker, and DHT is not a major factor in female pattern hair loss. Hello Dr. I am just 22 years old.. i have extensive hair loss problem..and its not all of the sudden.. it was from very beginning.. mat be my genetic problem..my mom is 42 and she has lost almost all of her hair.. i am really worried because my few area of scalp is already bald and scalp can be seen very clearly.. so my question is hair transplant is permanent?? Will transplanted hair can be lost too in future?? Is there any side effects of hair transplant for woman??
Hi Jyoti Sah, Sorry to hear about your problem. Hair transplants for women can only be done in areas that don't have native hair present as these can be permanently lost due to trauma of the transplant surgery. If hair grafts are taken from the permanent zone where hair is genetically resistant to hair thinning, then they are permanent. However, hair transplants don't treat hair loss progression of native hair, so additional treatment is needed to manage progressive hair loss, such as treatments like Hair Regeneration featured in the video. There are few treatments for women with pattern hair loss, but Hair Regeneration has been proven to be very effective to treat thinning hair in women, and stimulate growth in hair follicles that are still present, but not growing. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Amiya Prasad, M.D. thank you for your reply..right now I am studying in US. Can you recommend me some doctor or clinic where i can go for hair regeneration process.

@@AmiyaPrasadMD Hello, If a woman wants to add hair on her very big forhead with receding hairline (naturally big but got bigger with time ) . can she get a hair transplant? in that particular case : Diffuse thinning of hair over the entire scalp, with more noticeable thinning toward the front of the scalp, involving and sometimes breaching the frontal hairline. Frontal hairline totally bald on like 1.5 cm ... Thank you very much
Hi@@jackiebrownnn, A hairline lowering can be done for many women when frontal hair loss is not diffuse, or if the area naturally doesn't have much hair, and I have performed them successfully.
Hi Biz888,
Sorry to hear about your problems.
Hi Shama Perween,
The results of the Hair Regeneration ACell PRP treatment are featured in the video, and in the thumbnail.
Hi Shama Perween,
Sorry to hear about your problem.
But then what do i do about my thinning hair :(
Hi Jemma J,
I don't believe that testosterone levels are a great contributor to female pattern hair loss, because if it was, spironolactone would be more universally effective for treating female pattern hair loss.
You can review this recent video about the causes and treatments for female pattern hair loss: ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html
Yes I as a female suffer the frontal androgenic kind. I had my testosterone checked and it was actually low. I'm thinking cortisol may be reason.
Hi@@Joyjoy-ih1ie,
Female pattern hair loss needs to be confirmed by scalp biopsies as it is more difficult to diagnose than male pattern hair loss.
Are there any
medications that can help?
Hi Anne Merie Nguyen,
It depends on the situation, as shown in the video.
Hi fasha w.hampton,
Hair thinning and hair shedding are two separate issues, with female pattern hair loss more associated with hair thinning. You can refer to these videos on how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss:
ruclips.net/video/aTb_Evz1jIM/видео.html

Hi Haru Sun,
Sorry to hear about your problem.
Also, what kind of doctor should I see for a scalp biopsy ? I live in Switzerland.
Hi@@lidia094,
You can specifically ask a dermatologist or a trichologist about it.
Hi Neha Kainaat,
I suggest you have your PCOS treated first, as well as your female pattern hair loss before you consider a hair transplant. PCOS can be treated by your gynecologist, usually with hormone therapy, which does improve the condition of your affected hair. Female 20 yrs old, I know my hair loss is due to putting constant tension on my hairline (traction alopecia) which has caused the thinning would I be a good candidate?
Hi Diamond,
Traction alopecia can damage hair follicles so they stop growing hair, but won't cause hair to thin. It is possible to have traction alopecia, and female pattern hair loss concurrently, so I would have to examine your scalp for thinning due to female pattern hair loss before I can determine if you're a candidate for treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

I am diagnosed with FPHL. Doctor prescribed me minoxidile 2%. But it causes hair loss drastically. I am thinking of hair transplant. Should I do it? Is it permanent?
Hi Eva Moni,
Hair transplants are not advised for most women because female pattern hair loss follows a diffuse pattern, so the trauma of transplanting hair too close to native hair will cause permanent loss of native hair follicles, making the hair loss worse.

Hi Ananya patel,
Sorry to hear about your problem. A physical exam and possible scalp biopsies are needed to confirm if you have female pattern hair loss.
Hi Beth Heller,
Androgenetic alopecia is progressive hair thinning, which can widen the hair part, but it's not associated with hair shedding.

Hi Jennie Crystal,
Sorry to hear about your problem, but a hair transplant is not likely an appropriate treatment for you because transplant hair too close to native hair can damage hair follicles permanently, causing even more hair loss. If you can't come see us, I suggest you see a doctor for a proper diagnosis of your hair loss. We can thicken thinning hair with our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment, but the treatment can't make naturally thin hair thicker than it was prior to progressive thinning. Hi vanshika reddy,
Sorry, I’m not familiar with doctors in India. Hair loss can have a genetic or hormonal cause, but food is unlikely to be a cause. Acne can be influenced by genetics and diet, but i treat its effects like acne scarring more than the actual causes. I hope this helps you.
can i do this for cosmetic reasons? i have natural thin hair on my crown but alt of hair overall
Hi Ayah Azzam,
It's not clear what treatment you are asking about.

Hi suresh raghul,
It’s normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back.
@@AmiyaPrasadMD thank you doc for replying. Can a scalp biopsy help in diagnosing androgenetic alopecia ?
Hi@@sureshraghul2715,
Yes, a scalp biopsy can help in determining androgenetic alopecia, but for men it can usually be determined with just scalp microscopy exam to see thinning hair.
Hi chzechoslovakia 98,
Hair transplants are not advised for diffuse female pattern hair loss.
Hi@@lightningandthunder2861,
Sorry to hear that.
Hi @@PoonamGupta-su5ei,
Hair shedding is associated with stress in a condition called telogen effluvium, which actually doesn't have a medical treatment, as shed hair grows back with time. You do need proper diagnosis to determine your exact problem. I hope this helps.
Nice video ... But it is still not obvious whether it is the microneedling or actual plasma that cause regeneration of hair...!
Hi s Ghani,

Hi doctor all my head have sheding hair and my over head get very bald all my head not have much hair and my hair kind so break break i am25 years old i can have transplant surgery?i cant live enymore i lose my confident
Hi sh eslami,
Sorry to hear about your problem.

Hi Shaunella Welch,
Sorry to hear about your problem.

Hi Ayesha Aslam,
It is unclear if you have hair shedding, which is not pattern hair loss; or hair thinning, which is likely pattern hair loss.
Hi Skylynn Pollard,
Hairline lowering transplants can be done safely for women not suffering pattern hair loss since there isn't existing hair at the hairline and forehead that are prone to collateral loss. You should be prepared for more than one transplant surgery to get sufficient density at the hairline. There is this older video about it for your reference - ruclips.net/video/DHBoBYIDpA4/видео.html
I'm from India. How can I take tricho stem?
Hi Abhishek Singh,
TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is a customized injection treatment, so it has to be done in our offices in the US.
Hi GirlCami,
For biopsies, I use a punch to take small samples of skin from 3 areas of the scalp. I then send them to a lab I trust because they are very experienced in diagnosing hair loss.
It is possible to suffer from telogen effluvium and genetic pattern loss currently. You can find more information about it on my website:

Hi Karamjit Kaur,
Sorry to hear about your problem, but a diagnosis is needed before I can make treatment recommendations, and I have never seen your scalp. A consultation is needed for a proper diagnosis. You can refer to these videos about the different causes of hair loss in women, and how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss:

@@AmiyaPrasadMD doc may I ask u something can finasteride use for women too? My hair started from falling. I want prevention. Thank you
Hi@@alexandraalexan884,
Finasteride is not used by women because it is a DHT-blocker, and DHT is not a major factor in female pattern hair loss. Female pattern hair loss is gradual hair thinning, not hair shedding, so a physical examination and possible scalp biopsies are needed to determine what you have. Hi deeksha jayara,
If you hair has always been thin, it can't be thickened since it was never thick to begin with. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Do you visit India?
Hi chandramoli deb,
We don't currently offer the treatment in India, but we do have many Indian patients coming to the US for treatment. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age.
Hi Jyoti Sah,
Sorry to hear about your problem.

Thank you very much
Hi@@jackiebrownnn,
A hairline lowering can be done for many women when frontal hair loss is not diffuse, or if the area naturally doesn't have much hair, and I have performed them successfully. A physical exam is needed to determine if it's right for you. You can refer to these videos about hairline lowering:
