I'm a new golfer and I'm trying to break 100 for the first time. I think it's the little things like this that are going to help me get some strokes back from duffs. Thank you 💪
Thanks for the refresher on these "tricky sloping lies" Danny. I find that I get into these situations at least two or three times during my tournament rounds.
Great video. I went out to the golf course for the first time in 30 years. I have been practicing on the range but slope shots you cannot practice on driving range. I did horrible on the golf course because of the sloping lies I got. Your video here will help me understand how to play the shots next time I go out.
So, the ball favours the higher foot, wider stance at 90 degrees to the slope, and swing comfortably within yourself. I hope its as simple out on the course as it is on the sofa! Thanks Danny.
Hi Danny,at my course you can encounter a bad lie pretty much on every fairway if your unlucky. The one I struggle with is a flat ball and back foot lie but the lead foot is in a dip.If you try and balance with the lead toe it mostly ends up low to the right duff, the ball position as normal. When you swing its hard not to fall off balance. So front foot down as such.
The key with all the shots is trusting the body to find balance. Make a few practice swings until your body works out the best position to strike down on the ball
On my course there are a number of steep lies, both uphill and downhill. Plus some ball above the feet and below the feet. And both at the same time. I liked your advice to use a more lofted club and a easy swing. I have found from experience that using the same club and swing I would use on flat ground does not work well even though I do try to align myself to the slope. I really need help with the ball above the feet situation. So I am excited to see your video on that situation. When will it be posted? And thanks for the great video.
@@DanielMaude when i take the time to think everything out a bit, make the adjustments of grip and stance and take a couple of practice swings to make sure i brush the the turf good i can pull off a good shot. it was working yesterday and my teammate and i won our league championship match 1 up. thnx again.
Great video! A problem I find myself in a lot which almost always ends poorly. I like the approach of ball position favors the high foot! That will stick with me. Thanks for a very useful tip.
Another great video Danny, thanks. For ball below or above your feet, how do you know how much to aim left or right to account/compensate for natural shape of the shot from these lies?
We have a hole that slopes down prior to a water hazard- hitting to a hole that is elevated slightly- generally 85-125 yard shot- slope is enough to make it feel like ball will go down off slope and into water- any suggestion for this situation
Thank you Danny for your response. I really appreciate it! The part that was confusing is that I was watching jack Nicholas his analysis of this in his golf my way video and he says that On downhill lies take one club more which is different than what you’re saying but I think he may have made a mistake because it would have to be The opposite thinking of what to use on the uphill lie? Your thoughts please and if you agree with my understanding of all of this. Also if you can please answer the other two questions I posed If you have time on later responses will be deeply appreciated.
I watched that Nicklaus video and you're right, he did say take more club. But he meant less club. Many golfers make that error in speaking. Taking more club for some means hitting a 5 iron instead of a 6. Taking more club for others means taking more loft - in other words more loft means a 7 iron instead of a 6. It can be confusing so teachers really have to be clear.
Many thanks Danny for your advise. My problem is that I always top the ball when I’m in an uphill position :-( I have been trying all kind of advices like left foot back etc but still top the ball. Do you have any hint? Many thanks in advance!
High Danny my problem and I play it pretty well but lose distance at WOOLLEY PARK GOLF CLUB 10TH I am 155 from centre of green . Now it's uphill ball below feet . What I do is either aim to the right with a 6 iron at time of this I am 15 handicap and it goes straight , or a 6 iron front foot back a little to keep it on line but short . IF I TAKE THE COBRA MODEL FORGED TECH X 5 IRON I TEND TO PULL THAT . ( THESE ARE MY NEW CLUBS AND HAD THEM FITTED PLAYED 4 ROUNDS WITH THEM SO FAR AND LIKE THEM . The tees here are not level especially 16th . Come and play here with finchie and meand my golf or shiels, we have just had a 4th tier pro day here it's on RUclips so have a look . SO DO I TAKE THE 5 IRON OR 3I RESCUE . Paul
Great presentation. I am having some issues with my stances while using my 56° to do a flop shot. Should I have the ball forward or should I stand over the ball feet togehter?
Flop Shot - get the handle really low, to do this you will naturally need a wider stance and you will stand further from the ball as the club is less upright. Open the club face then grip the club, have the ball forward in your stance
Thanks for the advice. Could you do a video for ball above the feet ? I always struggle with this and end up hooking the ball no matter how far right I aim
Danny would you take one or two clubs more on a uphill lie as you said to take one or two clubs less on the downhill lie? Also perhaps you can explain to me if it is possible to have the ball above and below your feet on a downhill lie and also on an uphill lie. It is confusing for me to know the various combinations that can occur? Lastly, would the taking of more of the club or less of a club be dependent on the downhill or uphill or would it be dependent if the ball lie is above or below your feet? Hope you can make all of this clear?
Thanks Dan , so would i be correct to make my sternum 90 degrees to the lie surface ? i think that would be a good swing thought to monitor , do you agree ? thanks .
Sounds like the club is bottoming out it’s arc just before the ball thus hitting the ball on the way up. You may be allowing the slope to force you to far back through impact
Is there any consideration of club loft? I have always used a "straight up" swing but I have to adjust my club...decreased loft on an uphill and increased on a down hill. As you can imagine, varying degrees of success......
So unfortunately I frequently end up on the side of a very steep hill, like 15-20%grade. The green is now 30-40 yds directly up hill. So I should use something much lower lofted than say my gap wedge is usually what I take. I came looking for where to play the ball in reference to my stance and now I have more questions 🤦🏼♀️Golf!!!!

Me too Steve, let me know how it goes
yeah right on.Slopes ,thats all my home course has
Wonderfully logical. Your vertical axis is perpendicular to the slope as a starting point. Legend Danny Maude.
joeleus thank you, keeping it simple
thanks Danny great lesson...seems to happen every round
Pleasure, really happy to help

Yes we have many sloping fairways here at Canterbury GC, hope this gives some insight on how to play them

Brilliant tutorial, thanks !
Mike Hamme, thank you Mike, appreciate it
Great video very well explained too .
Thanks Graham 😁
Honestly a really good instructor.
Thank you Daniel, your feedback is much appreciated
Thank you Danny
Excelent video Danny!!
Thank you very much!
Thanks Danny. Lots of slope at my course so v. useful !
Very helpful. What happens when the ball is above your feet?
Ball wants to always curve in the direction the slope is going. Go down the grip slightly and tweak your alignment
Great explanation, tks
Glad it was helpful Charles
you kept it nice and simple, this should help, thnx.
Love to hear how you get on Steve

Hey Danny another great video. How about ball above the feet?
Watch this space
Add to question. Ball below your feet.
Hi dan could you do a video playing across a slope
James Dixon, good call James, watch this space
Thanks Danny. For these types of shots would you advise to refrain from using a fairway wood or even a hybrid club?
They are certainly harder to use but I would certainly work up to using them once you master the middle irons
B. Carr f
Excellent explanation
Thanks for the feedback Harold
On the uphill slope do you consider the loft of the club as well? Depending on the distance, do you use 1 club higher/lower?
Absolutely, take more on up hill and less on downhill
Great stuff Danny
onefrequencydown , thanks for the feedback I appreciate it
Danny would you approach a downslope fairway with a Hybrid club the same as the iron club you are demonstrating .Thanks
Absolutely Anthony
Danny, would you advise opening club face to use bounce for shots inside 100 yards ?
Only when really necessary but generally a square face is preferred.
Another great video Danny, thanks. For ball below or above your feet, how do you know how much to aim left or right to account/compensate for natural shape of the shot from these lies?
The greater the loft the more affect the slope has on the starting direction. Practice and learn from experience
Thanks Danny
my pleasure
Since you suggest 3/4 strength for the swing, should you change club selection to make up for loss yardage?
is there a newer version? i think i saw a feew weeks ago a new video of you, giving these tipps. but i do not find it
Here it is: ruclips.net/video/u9XMy_GTO7s/видео.htmlsi=TfAW80ZRWU4ZCUYF
Love your instructions because you explain the why's. Could you do a lesson on hybrids? Do I hit them like an iron or fairway woods? Thanks
Terri Smith, thank you a great idea for another video...I will add it to the list
Hit it like an iron.

Hey Danny you said on the down hill lie increase the loft. Should I decrease the loft on the up hill lie? Thanks

Very nice.

You mentioned shots below feet. Can we have more info on this and ball above feet
So if you move your loft up on a downhill lie would you decrease your loft on a uphill lie??
Absolutely Kevin
Wow thanks so much. I live in the mountains and have a really hard time with the steep slopes
Perfect let me know how it goes
On the uphill, won’t the ball go higher and tend to go left?
Absolutely sunny
At my course there is a severe uphill slope to the green which I duff by thinning it. Do u know why😢
