  • I mentioned before we would drive the car for a few weeks and then do a timing belt if it proved itself worthy.
Well, it has proven worthy, parts were ordered and here we are! Time to get it swapped out! Not so much of a how to in any way, but just me doing it and filming doing it.

Honestly the Cruze isn't a bad car actually. My family owned one it was a 2016 with the turbo motor and it never had an issue. Kept it for 55,000 miles and upgraded to something bigger. Otherwise no problems at all. Great video Jay you always got some good stuff!👍

It seems the turbo ones are the most problematic. The ones I’m always fixing serious on are anyways.
If this was a turbo car I’d have chunked it the minute we took delivery. But the little 1.8 is proving to be worthy.
We still plan on dumping it by the end of the year I think

  • @firstlast---

If you're doing this job at home there is no need to buy timing tools if all youre doing is changing the belt. Mark the camshaft actuators and old timing belt with paint markers prior to removal. Transfer paint marks to new belt and youll be perfectly in time. No need to remove the camshaft cover either 👍

I really dont think these cars are as bad as people make them out to be, theres 3 of them in my family including mine and they've all been decently reliable. When they do break they're cheap and easy to repair. I think the biggest issue with them usually is the people who own them 🤔

Between both of them all that's been changed under hood is coil packs on both, a valve cover, radiator fan, thermostat housings on both and evap purge valves.

People aren't that bright. One of my professional mechanic buddies who does the trade today I've known since I was in high school (he's in 60's now) when I started at the shop, he agrees the Cruze is a good car and easy to work on, he owned one. My Cruze has been max boosted tuned for 110k miles running water/methanol every day, been beat on and raced, did the valve cover and intake at 100k for $100 in parts an an hour of my time, did the turbo too last spring, it's so cheap $250 and it was abused pushing 22 psi until it couldn't, lasted a lot of miles. Again, the context is extreme punishment, I literally bought a used engine for it when I got the car expecting to blow it because I expected to push it to the edge. It has not blown, not enough turbo to hurt itself unless you detonate it however that is easily preventable.
I did a clutch in the summer, stock clutch never slipped it held the torque so I stuck with the GM performance version this time. The clutch didn't fail; I did it for maintenance purposes because that is what I do with machines in my care. The stock M32 gearbox has also survived all the torture, however I used RP synchromax every 30k miles. Otherwise everything else works, all the electronics, buttons, windows, and I do spray the underbody and suspension with fluid film because I'm in Michigan and have a 4" strip of bed liner rolled on the bottoms of the rockers, with that the car is rust free after 10 years, from Michigan driving in salty roads it's incredible.
For the bottom cheapest car from GM, the paint is okay however it's pretty thin would be my complaint, so rock chips on the hood come easier.
I'm not a pig but not perfect, I shampooed the seats a few months ago the interior looks brand new, nothing falling apart, no glue releasing, not cracking or peeling of interior bits. The Cruze control buttons are worn out, expect after 100k+ miles. The 1st gen Cruze is garbage apparently, even though here in Detroit I see 4-10 of them every day commuting to work. I pay attention because I own this car so it's in my mind to see them. There are so many in the U pull parts junkyards as well, I was there last week pulling underbody aero panels of an Eco model. Also, car-part.com, in Detroit there are hundreds of them listed with parts. I just bought a used M32 gearbox for $300 including core 100k miles on it, I picked it up last wednesday.

That's a good point!! Still can't convince my wife that it's still just a four-cylinder/NOT MADE FOR 90 MPH/FULL THROTTLE!! Also you have to remember the delay in the acceleration BC IT'S COMPUTERIZED. Right after I bought mine I looked it up on Google and the first review I read was that it was "the worst car Chevy ever built!!" I disagree (SO FAR) had mine 2.75 yrs.
